2024-10-29 19:42:56I was doing my math homework with headphones on, oblivious to the outside world. I knew that my sisters were playing in the room beside me, their laughter could be heard, and my mother was watching TV. Just a typical Sunday for me and my family.
Suddenly, I got this bad feeling growing inside my stomach which caused me to take off the blasting music and lay it at the table along with my pen. I sighed looking at the time, 5:00 PM. The high volume of the television could be heard from the living room but the ringtone of my mom's phone caused it to be muted. After a moment of chatting and a loud gasp, the next sound heard was of a reporter talking abruptly; news channel. When I woke up the next day, Karthik wasn't in his bed. I went inside the shared bathroom at the corner of the room and was surprised to see that there were in fact things for me to use alongside his. I brushed my teeth, freshened up, and wore what was hung in my almost empty closet; a t-shirt and jeans. Afterward, I walked towards the cafe. The days went on so quickly and I felt like I was part of this family right away. They were really kind and caring towards me considering I'm the youngest of them and treated me like a kid sometimes but I just laughed them off when they joke around me. Every day I helped the rangers, one way or the other. As I was new they didn't know what job to assign to me and told me to do whatever I want but I couldn't just stand still so I lowkey helped them all. I had learned from them that after we had been rescued from the island, Karthik woke up almost instantly but I took three weeks. It was really weird, everything was weird, but this was super weird. Sun was shining brightly as ever but its heat was not reaching the cold grounds out of the earth. It was as though the earth was embedded by a veil of mist, not letting any heat through it. The trees started to shed their protective clothes around them, decorating the grounds and footpaths with their beautiful artwork. They were welcoming the forthcoming autumn gracefully, using the shredded leaves as its greeting carpet. The way nature changes with time are fascinating to watch.I pried my eyes open, my nostrils were immediately met by the addicting odor of coffee. I was wrapped around my blanket buried into it like a burrito. Squinting slightly to the light, I followed the odor aimlessly. My eyes came upon the steaming cup of coffee placed right at the center of my table lamp. It was very tempting not to reach out to it so I did. I took a sip and awed internally; that was one of the best coffees I have ever had. I emptied it in one go almost burning my tongue.

They sing, dance, and enjoy themselves taking a break from their everyday schedule of maintaining and running the museum. Fortunately, that day was today, the day before our school reopening. I was excited about school but nervous and anxious at the same time so, this was the best way for me to calm my tensed nerves and hyperactive mind.
