Chapter 4
📍Shannon📍
I stared at the boss, my heart pounding in my chest. Every nerve in my body screamed for him to say no. To refuse this deal. To keep me here—anywhere but not with this man.
The stranger’s offer hung in the air like a heavy storm. A breeder. He wanted me to be his breeder. My stomach twisted at the word.
Minutes ago, I had fought like hell against the guards dragging me into this building. But now, I would rather stay here, in this hellhole, than go with him. Because I knew—deep in my bones—I wouldn’t survive him.
The man standing before me was powerful, dangerous. His presence alone sucked the air from the building. His sharp gaze pinned me down like a prey. There was something in his stance, in his voice—possessive, ruthless. Going with him meant writing my death wish with my own hands.
“So, what do you say, Mr. Manager?” The man’s voice was calm, but beneath it, there was something darker. A warning. A demand.
The boss hesitated, his lips pressing together. Then, to my horror, he offered a tight smile and stretched out his hand. “I guess we have a deal, my king.”
The floor beneath me might as well have shattered. My entire body went rigid.
What?
This can't be.
He had claimed me just minutes ago. He wasn’t supposed to give in so easily. He was supposed to fight for me, to refuse. Instead, he gave in without so much as a second thought.
Why? What was it about this man that made people bend to his will? Even the boss—who was speaking with so much authority minutes ago —looked terrified.
The man moved towards me, his pace slow and calculated. “That was quick.” He reached for me, but I pulled back, shoving his hand away.
“Don’t you dare touch me!” My voice rang out, fierce and unwavering, shocking even myself. “I am not going to be anyone’s breeder. Especially not for some stranger.”
He laughed. A deep, mocking sound that sent a chill running down my spine.
The boss, however, was furious. His face twisted in rage as he faced me. “Did I just hear you turn down the king’s offer?”
I didn’t flinch. Didn’t move. I had been tossed around like a pawn for too long. I was done being weak.
Before I could react, strong hands grabbed me from behind. I thrashed and kicked, but it was useless. They were too strong. I was hauled toward a sleek black car waiting at the entrance.
Through the tinted glass, I caught sight of them—shaking hands and laughing with so much excitement. My chest tightened. I had been traded. Again.
First, my parents had sold me. Then the boss. And now, I belong to this man.
Tears burned my eyes. Was this my fate? A never-ending cycle of being passed from one monster to another?
The door swung open and he slid in beside me, his face unreadable. The air in the car grew thick, suffocating.
“Drive,” he ordered, his voice cold.
The car roared to life, speeding down the road. I sat frozen, my body trembling. I shot a quick glance at him. His face was blank, his gaze locked ahead. But there was something in his eyes—something I couldn’t quite name.
Minutes passed in suffocating silence before the car finally came to a stop.
The door opened, and he stepped out. Instantly, his guards were on me, pulling me out of the car. My arms ached from their iron grip.
“Greetings, King Evan.”
A soft voice pulled me from my daze. A woman who seemed to be in her mid-twenties, bowed before him, her posture submissive.
I blinked.
Evan?
That's his name? A name that sounded so… normal. Almost gentle. It didn’t match him at all. He was anything but gentle.
Who was he? And why did everyone fear him like he was a god?
He barely acknowledged the woman, his expression as cold as ever. And that’s when it hit me.
It wasn’t just me. He didn’t care about anyone.
A chill ran down my spine. Was this why the boss had handed me over so easily? Was this why no one dared to oppose him?
Tears welled up in my eyes, but I swallowed them down. Crying wouldn’t save me.
But this man wasn't done yet. He turned to his guards, and his next words left me completely breathless.
“Get her into the guestroom and have the maids prepare her for tonight.”
My breath seized.
Tonight? What does that even mean?
An unsettling fear gnawed at me but before I could process his words, his guards were already on me, grabbing me tight as they led me into a strange room.
Some women were already there, waiting. The moment the guards threw me in, they approached me, their faces warm with smiles.
“We have been ordered to get you prepared, milady.”
The words landed like a slap. My pulse quickened.
So it's really not a joke.
I pulled away from their grip, resisting every attempt they made to force me into the bathroom.
“I can do it myself.” I said, my voice shaky now. The women exchanged glances with themselves, smiling in a quite suspicious manner.
They shook their heads, their faces defiant. “I'm sorry, but we were strictly ordered not to let you do anything. We need to take care of you so you don't feel fatigued from what you'll be doing tonight.”
"And what's that?" I inquired, becoming increasingly fascinated.
They became silent again. I nodded and let them do their thing.
They assisted me in showering, and when we returned to the bedroom, they brushed my hair and prepared a nightgown for me to wear. It's a thin, see-through white lace nightgown.
When I put it on, it fitted wonderfully around my curvaceous shape, leaving little to the imagination.
I really wanted to ask them why I am dressed like this and why I had so many rose petals in my bath. What were they preparing me for?
But before I could get an opportunity to ask them anything, they were already gone.
Just suddenly, the door burst open once again, bringing with it an overwhelming atmosphere.
Chapter 5📍Shannon📍"Who are—?" My voice trembled as a wave of cold air rushed in through the open door. The hallway beyond was dark, the dim light from my room unable to reach the shadowed figure standing there. The longer the person stood there, the heavier the dread in my chest grew. "—You?" I finally whisper. But all I got was silence. The figure neither spoke nor moved. My pulse quickened, the fear creeping in deeper. I don’t usually get scared. But after what happened today, my nerves were shattered, scattered like shards of glass."What do you want?!" I demanded, stepping forward despite the panic clawing at my chest. And that’s when it hit me—A scent. Strong and overwhelming.Candy and roses, laced with something deeper, something rich and sweet, like raspberries. It flooded my senses, intoxicating and almost… familiar. Then, finally, the answer came."You."A single word. Rough. Low. A baritone voice that sent a shiver down my spine. The figure moved at last, stepping into
CHAPTER 6📍Evan📍Since my history of ruling as a king, I have never seen anyone disrespect me the way this lady just did. Worse still, there was something about her that drew my attention, and I didn't even see myself hitting her. I couldn't.I gripped her jaw and made sure she saw the anger brewing in my eyes. “You're trying to prove stubborn huh?” I hissed, trailing my hands down to her neck and pinning her harshly to the wall that I could see her veins pop out. “You will eventually plead for my mercy, and when that happens, I will make sure I make you pay for every single way you disrespected me.” I loosened my hold on her neck, running a finger through her already messy hair. Then I leaned forward and gripped a handful, sniffing her hair in my nose.“You smell like shit.” I cussed and flung my hand away, like her hair would contaminate me if I didn't act fast. Despite my growing urge to make her suffer dearly, there was something about her that made her irresistible. I have nev
CHAPTER 7📍 Evan📍I shoved past her without a second glance. As soon as I arrived in Shannon's room, I crashed in beside her, gripping her hands slowly. She looked so fragile, her pale skin marred with fresh scars from the guards' whips. My jaw clenched. Guilt burned through me—I had done this to her.Her body lay still, her eyes shut, and for the first time, a shiver of fear coursed through my veins. What if she never wakes up?Just then, the door burst open and I turned around eagerly, hoping to see the healer walk in. It was him. Finally!Relief washed over me instantly and I scrambled to my feet, giving way for him to pass.“King Evan, you sent for me.” He said as soon as his gaze met mine. “What seems to be troubling you?”I didn't hesitate. I pointed towards Shannon's direction, my heart racing. “You need to save her. She snapped out during a period of intense training.” I lied. I didn't want to let him know how badly I had tortured Shannon. I couldn't. My reputation would
CHAPTER 8📍Evan📍“We’re not here to challenge your authority as Grand Alpha,” Logan said, his voice steady, unshaken. “But we—the Alphas—have reached a decision.” He paused, meeting my gaze without flinching. “You must have a mate before the new moon ceremony which is coming up in a few days. You will introduce her to the council. If you fail to do so…” He smirked. “Your position will be at risk.” My blood burned hot. The audacity. The sheer nerve to stand before me and spew such nonsense. I leaned forward, my voice low and edged with fury. “And what does my inability to find a mate have to do with the new moon ceremony?” Before Logan could respond, Alpha Sebastian rose, slamming his foot against the ground. “Everything, Alpha! We cannot present a King to our people without a Luna. Not again.”“Exactly!” Logan snapped, his voice sharp and unwavering. “We’ve given you enough time to do the right thing. Now, you have four days. Four days, and if you fail… we will make our decisi
CHAPTER 9 📍 Shannon 📍 As soon as Evan left the room, the door burst open again. My heart leaped—I thought he had returned. But when I looked up, I saw a group of women, their faces lit with warm smiles. They looked to be in their mid-thirties, unfamiliar yet oddly welcoming. I tried to sit up, but they rushed to my side, gently helping me. “You don’t need to stress yourself when you have us here,” one of them said, smiling kindly. The others nodded, their eyes filled with excitement. I scrambled in my thoughts, struggling hard to recognize their faces, but I couldn't. I bet I hadn't seen them since I was brought into this hellhole of a palace. Just then, one of the women said something which left me reeling in thoughts. “The King ordered us to bring you to the poolroom,” she said, her voice laced with enthusiasm. “He has a surprise for you.” My brows furrowed, confusion seeping in. A surprise? From Evan? That didn’t make any sense. He hated me—despised me. Why would he prep
CHAPTER 10 ~Evan~ I geared the car to life and sped off, my mind racing as something in me kept hinting that there was trouble. It was the longest ride in my whole lifetime, maybe because my mind was so preoccupied with thoughts of Shannon, making it difficult to concentrate. After some minutes of driving in silence, I finally arrived at the palace. I pushed the car doors open and rushed out as soon as I pulled up in the palace building. “Where's Shannon?!” I asked, gripping one of the guards' clothes, fire burning in my eyes. He trembled, surrendering his hands to the air. “Speak!” “She… she's in her room.” He finally replied, his voice shaking. I left him at once and spun on my heels, running straight towards Shannon's room. The moment I stepped in, I saw Owen sitting by her bedside, his eyes laced with concern. The compassion with which he looked at her was daring. It wasn't just ordinary care… there was something beneath those looks, something deeper than compassion itself.
CHAPTER 11 ~Shannon~ Is this really all I am to him? Just a tool he can use and discard whenever he pleases? How foolish of me to think he had changed. I should have known... He's still the same cold-hearted monster. I wanted to scream, to demand answers, but before I could even part my lips, his hand wrapped tightly around my neck, pulling me dangerously close to him. "I'm stepping out with my beta," he hissed, his eyes dark and filled with warning. "On no account should you leave this room. If you dare disobey me... I'll show you exactly what I'm capable of." With that, he released me and stormed out, not even sparing me a second glance. I gasped for air, my heart pounding as the door slammed shut behind him. Why does he do this to me? Why does he act like he doesn't care... yet still watches my every move? Why does he keep me locked up like some prisoner when all I ever wanted was freedom? A soft knock echoed through the room before the door creaked open. A maid walk
CHAPTER 12 ~Evan~ "You tried to escape, huh?" I sneered, my voice low and dangerous as I slowly approached her. "You've got some guts, little wolf." She stood there, trembling like a fragile leaf caught in a storm. Her wide, terrified eyes locked with mine, silently begging for mercy. But unfortunately, I had no mercy to give. She had just disobeyed me, so she ought to be prepared for the consequences. She clearly brought this upon herself. In a flash, I closed the distance between us, grabbing her roughly. A sharp gasp escaped from her lips as I threw her over my shoulder like she weighed nothing. "You're going to pay for this," I growled, walking towards the manor. Her weak fists pounded against my back, but her strength was laughable compared to mine. I tightened my grip, ignoring her helpless struggle as I carried her inside and tossed her onto the couch. She landed with a soft thud, her body trembling as she tried to crawl away from me. I leaned in, towering over he
CHAPTER 23~Karen~“We can't let this happen. Never!” Father spat, pacing about restlessly. He bit his index finger, his facial expression showing just how stressed he was. We had just experienced the most unbelievable encounter of our lives earlier today. When we thought we had finally gotten rid of Shannon, she suddenly resurfaces, not as an ordinary omega this time, but as the bride of the powerful wolf king! Who would ever believe that the king would ever look her way, let alone accepting her as his mate?“King Evan is clearly out of his mind.” Mother snapped, her tone just as high and disappointed as father's. “How could he stoop so low to be with a lowly omega when he has a lot of women at his disposal?”I remained silent, watching quietly as they voiced out their frustrations. I had a solution to all these, but I was not so sure they would welcome the idea. But I had to give it a try anyway. I cleared my throat loudly, hoping to catch their attention, and thankfully, I did.
CHAPTER 22~Evan~Though she had left, I still couldn't get those words off my head. Freya was not one to just make empty promises. She always ends up fulfilling whatever she says, and now I couldn't help but wonder what she's up to this time.Nonetheless, I didn't let that get to me. She could as well go to hell for all I care. And the elders advocating for her? They are just as good as useless. If they think I'd succumb so easily to choose her as my mate, after everything she had done to me, then the joke is obviously on them.My gaze shifted to Shannon when I closed the door, and she lowered her head, darting her eyes away as soon as she saw me turn.I marched forward, crossing my arms and waiting for an explanation from her. She had to explain the reason why Logan was so confident speaking so ill of her back at the grand hall. Why did she have to run when the only thing she was supposed to do was stay back there and defend herself of all those allegations? Running away only implie
CHAPTER 21~Evan~With the chaos going on in my head, I could have as well chosen to go with everything Logan had said, but I waved it off instead.I made my way to my quarters, my head pounding as I reminisced on those words over and over again.I couldn't believe it, no matter how certain and sure Logan had sounded earlier. I needed to hear from the horse's mouth herself… only then would I be able to conclude that she was really guilty after all.“Put your eyes on Shannon…” I said, turning to Owen. He looked terribly worried, and he wouldn't just leave my side after everything that just happened. “As soon as she tries to get out of the room, get her and bring her to me. Am I understood?”His eyes stretched slightly, but he nodded, too scared to even utter a word. He walked out at once, and at that point, I felt like a huge burden had been lifted off my shoulders.I heaved a deep sigh, leaning towards the large dressing mirror beside my bed. I guess I just needed some time alone to g
CHAPTER 20~Evan~I went after her, yelling her name relentlessly, but she didn't bat an eye. She didn't even bother to look back, let alone stop to at least hear what I had to say.But that didn't stop me from going further. I had a lot of questions to ask and she clearly was in the right position to answer them.I hastened my steps, desperate to catch up with her, but I was rather too late. Before I could get any closer, she had already stormed into the room ahead, shutting the door firmly behind her.I pressed forward and knocked on the door repeatedly, but she never responded, not even once. At that point, I heard someone yell my name, and when I turned, there he was–one of the guards. He stood before me, his breath ragged and shallow. My gaze turned towards him, my eyes cold and impatient. “What do you want?” I asked, trying so hard to control the anger boiling inside me.His breath stopped almost immediately and he snapped his head upwards, facing me. “My king…” He started, his
CHAPTER 19~Karen~“I saw her!” I said in a firm voice, trying to convince everyone to believe me, but it was obvious they still had their doubts.Father especially. He refused to believe me when I said I had seen Shannon back at the Wolf King's palace.“I'm not sure you know who you saw. What would King Evan possibly be doing with a worthless omega?” Dad snapped, refusing to believe every single thing I said.“But I know who I saw… and it's definitely her.” I screeched, desperate to make him believe me, but it was certainly not working.Damien was not helping matters either. He also wouldn't believe me… no matter how much I tried to convince him.“Okay… why don't we wait till tomorrow to know if this is true?” He suggested, and father nodded in approval. “That way, we will be convinced that you had actually seen her like you claim.”I blinked, fighting back the frustration clawing at my chest. I'm definitely not going insane, am I? I saw her, and I know for a fact that my eyes were
CHAPTER 18~Shannon~I froze on the spot, my heart racing as I slowly turned around, bracing myself for Evan’s furious gaze. My heart pounded so loudly I could hear it in my ears. But when I turned, it wasn’t him. A wave of relief crashed over me. It was just the maid. She stood in the doorway, clutching a bundle of clothes in her arms. Her expression was blank, but her eyes turned towards the door—towards the very place Owen had just fled from without a second glance. She had seen him. She had seen everything. My stomach twisted. But she said nothing. Her silence was deafening, and for a moment, all I could hear was the sound of my own ragged breathing. Did she know what had just happened? Would she tell Evan? My entire fate now rested in her hands.I swallowed hard, watching as her expression smoothed into something unreadable. And just immediately, she turned to me, her voice calm, almost mechanical. “The King has ordered me to prepare you for tomorrow.”She moved acro
CHAPTER 17 ~Shannon~ I lowered my head, my body trembling slightly as I nodded. I couldn’t say no to him—I dared not. The moment I gave in, he let go of me, his lips pressing into a thin line. “Good,” he muttered, his voice cold and final. Without another word, he turned and strode toward the door. “The maids will get you ready… just the way I want.” Then, with a sharp slam, the door closed behind him. I stood there, frozen, his words echoing in my mind. My chest felt tight, my stomach twisting with unease. He really believed I was nothing more than a puppet, something he could command and control as he pleased. Like I had no will of my own. How long would I have to endure this? How much more could I take? I barely had time to process my thoughts when the door swung open again. My breath caught in my throat, thinking Evan had returned. But this time, it wasn’t him. It was Owen. My eyes widened, fear striking me like lightning. “W-what are you doing here?” I stammered
CHAPTER 16 ~Shannon~ I couldn't understand the strange pull I felt towards him. It was terrifying how the same man who saw me as worthless, who insulted and humiliated me at every chance, was now the one my heart seemed to crave. Evan's eyes burned into mine, cold and unreadable, yet I couldn't look away. I felt trapped, drowning in emotions I couldn’t explain. But just as quickly as the moment came, it shattered. He shoved me against the wall, his grip firm and unyielding. I flinched, expecting more harsh words, but he said nothing. Instead, he turned to me with a dark, furious glare before dragging me down the corridor. I struggled to keep up with his pace as whispers filled the air, curious eyes watching us. But he didn't care. When we reached the car, he flung the door open and tossed me inside like I was nothing more than an object. My body hit the leather seat with a thud, and I let out a soft gasp. Owen arrived shortly after, confusion written all over his face.
CHAPTER 15~Evan~ She no longer looked terrified. The fear that once danced in her eyes had suddenly faded, replaced with something I couldn’t quite place. I locked my gaze ahead as I approached her. “Get in the car,” I ordered coldly before stepping inside without sparing her a glance. She hesitated for a moment but eventually obeyed, slipping into the back seat while Owen settled in the passenger seat beside me. I clenched the steering wheel, an unfamiliar tension building in my chest. My eyes turned to Owen. “Step out,” I said, my voice softer this time. “Let her sit here while you stay at the back.” Owen shot me a confused look but didn’t argue. He gave a slight nod and stepped out, moving to the back seat. Shannon slowly slid into the front seat, her fragile frame stiff with tension. I didn’t understand this strange pull I felt toward her. The bond I had once denied was growing stronger with each passing second. Yet, I refused to see her as anything other than t
