Rosella’s POV

“I already gave you my cycle report. I’m not ovulating now so give it a rest, will you?” I tried to act nonchalantly even though my heart was pumping blood faster than normal!

This man might really end up killing me with a heart attack if he keeps this up.

He wasn’t saying anything so I took that as my cue to slip away because no good could come from being naked in his presence. I was finally out of the puddle but he suddenly held me by my wrist.

“Let’s help each other shower”

“No!” I shouted instantly, I was against any unwanted attraction and I’m sure as hell the only reason why he was holding back was because of the injury otherwise, I would’ve really been in trouble. Still, I don’t have much time.

His wound got so much better overnight, on that note he wasn’t lying, he even removed his IV drip. How audacious!

“Why not?” He had nerves to ask after just threatening me with a dark promise. The reason was quite clear in my opinion.

“Because I’m perfectly fine. Als

Rosella’s POV“What?” Before I could comprehend what was going on he pulled me by the hand into the now empty theater. He really sent everyone out! I stared at him in disbelief. I held his gaze for a minute longer and suddenly stared laughing. I wasn’t just laughing, I was wheezing. For odd reasons, I found the reality very absurd. The fact that Donovan actually has the potential to go crazy was exhilarating. The heavens really shared problems for everyone. Why was he so paranoid over such details? “Are you done laughing?” He sounded pissed. Maybe I did overstate the problem but it was still award-worthy. I cleared my throat and adjusted my hair.“Since you already chased everyone away like a petty two-year-old, I guess we have no choice but to see the movie, alone”Wait, alone?! I just realized that the jokes are on me! I’m trapped here alone with Donovan! What could be worse than that?We sat for the movie and after a moment the film started rolling. Maybe if I focused o

Rose had no intention of holding back her tears and she definitely had no intention of stopping. She grabbed onto his shirt and bawled her eyes out. Retching out the pain that was killing her inside. “What did I ever do wrong?! I wasn’t the best daughter but I wasn’t irredeemable either! I was so young! She could’ve waited a little bit longer! She could’ve been my mother for a few more years, then I wouldn’t resent her this much! Arrrrrgh!”Donovan didn’t say anything, he just let her cry to her heart’s content while gently stroking her head and patting her back. “If only I could meet her once, just once in this lifetime, that’s all I ask. I’m not hoping for a reunion or anything, I’m not that naive. I just want to know why she left me that night. I want to scream my lungs out and say. Why did you abandon me, Mother?! You told me to wait! You said you’d be back! Wasn’t I worth it?! Was I not f*cking worth it?!”“It’s okay, I’m here for you, Rose”Those soothing words from him fel

Rosella’s POV I was cornered by his chest and the look in his eyes told me he was highly suspicious of me but it still had a flicker of flirtatiousness. I knew I needed to save myself immediately!“I was looking for you, I just got a little carried away by the sculptures and antiques” I said in one breath and the smirk on his lips broadened. “And why where you searching for me, Rose?”I was racking my brain to think of an answer and I suddenly blurted out. “Because when I woke up you weren’t there”What the hell am is saying?! My words would only give the wrong idea and they did just that!“So you missed me that much?” His eyes widened a little with surprise and his appearance evidently got lighter. He was in a good mood over the wrong thing!“That’s not what I meant” I gritted out either way. It’s best I think of a different excuse. “Then why?” He questioned and covered the last straw of distance between us. How was I supposed to think with such proximity?! My brain immediatel

Rosella’s POV Although, I hate the idea of going to a party organized by Olivia and her minions, but the getting ready process allowed me to see Mirable after some days. I knew she was working so I didn’t want to disturb her but I can’t help but feel I caused such a mess that night at the club. After all it was my exclusive idea to drag her along, she was against it and look what a mess happened. Maybe it was because of guilt but I didn’t communicate with her like I normally do when we go for dress fitting and styling. Or maybe I just didn’t have anything to say because my mind was busy thinking of Felix. I still haven’t reached out to him and I wondered if he would even have me. “All done” The attendant announced and I stared in the mirror. I looked stunning but my countenance wasn’t on par with my looks. “Mirable…” The moment I called her she had a call and shot me an apologetic look. It was a business call so I understood and while she left to take it I also left to attend th

Rosella’s POV The whole place rested in silence. The type that was mixed with unimaginable shock. Olivia had the biggest shock written on her face and I wasn’t exempted from the mortifying experience.Of course, only Donovan had a relaxed expression. Why wouldn’t he? After he had successfully sabotaged my life?!Before anyone could speak another word he dragged me by the hands and headed straight for the car where he literally bundled me inside and circled the car to take his position behind the wheel. Any day this man drives, my life is filled with one unfortunate scene after the other! “Donovan what is the meaning of this?! How could you tell everyone about that?! I told you we are actually married! Do you know the gravity of what you just did?!”Clearly, I was the only one pissed. Donovan had his brows relaxed, he looked especially pleased with the outcome of his thoughtless actions and I was the only one raging like a dog! He didn’t even have the decency of responding to my wor

Rosella’s POV I knew I was always stuck between a rock and a hard place but this is just ridiculous! What sort of timing is this?“You can easily call a driver. At most I would stay with you until a driver arrives”“No! I want you to take me home”He stubbornly tightened his grip around my waist and I felt a headache coming. I could barely breathe properly but that was the least of my problems right now. “This isn’t the time to be selfish! -”“How is it that wanting to be with my wife is selfish? Am I not even allowed that much?” His voice sounded muffled buried inside my neck and I genuinely felt speechless. All my attempts to make him forget that was meaningless were proven futile, he called me his wife with so much conviction that it felt almost illegal to keep on rejecting.“You heard what Felix said. It’s an emergency so I need to -”“Are you his doctor? What would you do if you go? How would you help?! I’m in this situation because of you. I took the drink in your stead an

Rosella’s POV I couldn’t say another word before he kissed me again. The truth was, even if I wanted to fight against my desires and make a run for it, there was simply no way out. He had me trapped underneath his body and it was clear there was no escape for me, still, I tried!“Donn… I’m not ovulating right now. Remember our agreement, you have to keep it” I said in a hurry, why wouldn’t I? He seemed extremely impatient, he already had his head buried in my chest. It was hard enough for me to focus and bud actions weren’t helping matters. “Isn’t that what you want?” His movements stopped and he locked eyes with me. His gaze was hazy but the desires in them were clear as day. I gulped subconsciously and his watchful eyes followed the lump on my neck. The already ignited tension fueled even more and I couldn’t help but inquire.“What do you mean?”There was a moment of silence, his eyes were searching mine and when he realized I really had no idea, he finally spilled the tea. Rosella’s POV What should I make of this? How is my birthday the passcode to his most secret possessions?I didn’t want to answer these questions and kept my head on the price. I walked into the room and saw the shelves arranged accordingly with stacks of documents labeled alphabetically. “I have to be fast” I followed the arrangement and found the document lying there. For a split second I hesitated, the thought of putting an end to my plans and going back to bed tugged my heart but I closed my eyes and hardened my heart. “I promised to find my father’s killer with concrete evidence so I can’t be swayed by unnecessary emotions” With this thought I grabbed the document and exited the room and I didn’t look back as I exited Castilo Manor while placing a call to Marcus.“Hello”“I got the papers”I overheard him release a dry laugh and I had every right to be worried about that! But then again, when has Marcus ever been normal?“I’ll come pick you up. Stay put” Like I had a cho

The tension in the hospital lingered in the air like an uninvited guest, heavy and suffocating. After the doctor delivered the news that their mother had survived the surgery but was now in a coma, neither Rosella nor Mirable could breathe a sigh of relief. The hope of her waking up was the only thread holding them together, yet it felt too thin, too fragile.Rosella’s knees buckled, her strength waning, but Donovan’s strong arms shot out and caught her before she could collapse completely. His grip on her was firm yet gentle, his eyes filled with concern. “You need to rest,” he murmured softly, but she barely heard him, her mind too occupied with the image of her mother bleeding out in her arms. The room where their mother was moved to was quiet, save for the beeping of machines and the faint rustle of nurses shuffling about. The doctor informed them that they could visit, but before they could take a step, Mirable turned to Rosella and Donovan, her expression conflicted. “Rosella… c

Blood spattered on the ground, pooling beneath the crumpled body of Rosella's mother. The sound of the gunshot still echoed in Rosella's ears, even as chaos erupted around her. Her body froze, rooted to the ground as the weight of her mother's falling figure pressed against her chest."No-No, no, no!" Rosella cried, catching her mother in her trembling arms. The air seemed to thicken, bullets zipping past her in the ensuing firefight. She didn't flinch. The world blurred, focusing solely on the woman bleeding out in her arms. ‘Why did she throw herself in front of me?’ Rosella’s mind was pinned on this thought. "Mom! Stay with me!" she screamed, shaking her gently. Blood seeped through her mother's dress, staining Rosella's hands and knees. "Please, don't close your eyes, don't do this to me!"Her mother's eyes fluttered open, her irises clouded with pain yet filled with a strange serenity. "Rosella..." The tension in the air was suffocating, thick enough to choke. The small warehouse echoed with the sound of guns cocking and men shifting into position. The stale scent of sweat, gunpowder, and mildew permeated the room, clinging to the skin like an unwelcome reminder of the danger that loomed.Rosella could barely breathe as she sat on the floor, her wrists raw from the ropes that had only recently been removed by Marcus, her heart thundering in her chest. Her mother was beside her, pale and trembling, though her gaze flickered with a strange kind of strength. Across the room, Odessa stood tall, her arms crossed and her expression cool but edged with irritation as she surveyed the chaos she had orchestrated. In the middle of it all stood Marcus, he suddenly rushed in holding a gun that wavered between two targets, Donovan and his mother, Odessa. His jaw was clenched, his brow furrowed, and his breathing uneven as he wrestled with the storm of emotions raging inside him."Marcus," O

  • Becoming The Mafia’s Surrogate   Chapter 148: Twisted Tales

Rosella was slumped against the cold wall of the dimly lit room, her wrists sore from the ropes digging into her skin. The air was damp and carried the faint metallic tang of rust and decay. The room itself was barren save for a flickering bulb overhead, casting long, ominous shadows across the cracked concrete walls. Every creak of the floor, every distant muffled noise made her flinch, the tension wrapping around her like a vice.Odessa stood before her, her figure imposing despite the elegant tailored suit she wore. Her heels clicked sharply against the floor as she paced, the sound filling the otherwise silent room. Her lips curled into a smirk, and her dark eyes gleamed with satisfaction. She looked every bit the predator who had cornered her prey.“You must be wondering,” Odessa began, her voice smooth but laced with venom, “why I hate Donovan so much. Why I’ve gone to such lengths to tear him down.” She paused, her gaze flickering to Rosella, who stared back with defiance despi

Rosella paced her room, the plush carpet muffling the frantic huffs of her breaths. Her heart raced in sync with her thoughts, each beat heavier than the last. Donovan’s warning to stay indoors had seemed simple enough at first, but as the hours passed, unease wrapped around her like a suffocating fog. Why wouldn’t he or Franklin answer her calls? What was happening out there? The vibration of her phone jolted her from her thoughts. Snatching it from the table, she saw the name Dalgliesh Residence flashing on the screen. Her breath hitched.“Hello?” she answered, her voice trembling.“Miss Rosella,” the voice on the other end was panicked, rushed. “It’s Mr. Dalgliesh. He’s collapsed, been rushed to St. James Hospital. It’s bad… very bad.”Rosella felt her knees weaken, her free hand gripping the edge of the desk for support. “Collapsed? What happened?!”“We don’t know yet.
