CHAPTER 40

VALERIE'S POV.

"I gotta go now" I said to Gabe after reading my mom's text message.

"Okay, byee" he replied, walking me to the door.

"See you tomorrow… or whenever" I replied.

I fixed myself to make myself look more presentable and exit his room. After stepping out of the elevator into the lobby, I quickly find my mom seated at one of the chairs in the lobby.

She glanced up, noticing my presence when I got closer to her.

"Happy birthday darling" she said immediately she saw me.

That came as a shock to me because I had no idea she would remember such detail. Yes she was my mother… but a mother that was never around until now.

"thank you" I replied, covering my shock carefully.

"Let's go, Do you mind us going to a nearby restaurant?" she asked.

"I don't mind," I replied curtly.

We both silently walked out of the apartment building, I followed her directions to the place she parked her car.

"I got you something" she said, after we were both seated at the back seat of her car. S
