When the truth unfolds

Stevenson’s POV

A week later….

Dinner had just ended, and I leaned back in my chair, feeling full and content.

“The food was delicious,” I said, complimenting Fiona, who sat beside me. I knew she hadn't cooked the meal, but I felt the need to acknowledge her anyway. She glanced at me, forcing a smile before looking away.

I could tell something was on her mind. She nibbled on her food before finally putting her fork down. As if gathering her thoughts, she cleared her throat and spoke softly, "We need to talk."

I sighed, already feeling annoyed. "What is it this time? Do you need more money for another one of your expensive shopping trips? I thought I gave you more than enough last time?"

She shook her head, her expression serious. "No, it’s not about money. It’s something else—something very important."

This caught my attention. I sat up straighter, looking at her more closely. "Then what?"
