Jasmine swallowed hard, then slowly extended her hand to him. He didn't wait for her to fully reach out to him, and he held her hand in his soft, yet firm grip, his smile faltering a little as he felt her hand.
She smiled, a small, hesitant smile, then pulled her hand away from him."Thanks," she said, turning to examine the house. It was slowly coming to form with the new windows, and she heaved a small sigh of relief."You can pay me with dinner, right?" he asked, his voice a small whisper. She turned back to him, then immediately nodded. "Tomorrow after school. I will make sure to treat you."He smiled again, then went back to rest on his car, his eyes fixed on her."So...your parents? No one seems to be here."She swallowed hard. "They were murdered."His eyes widened. "I am..so sorry to hear that, Jasmine. It must have been so hard."She shrugged, blinking hard. "It is actually fine. it was so long ago."He nodded and leaned back again, and they watched the sun set in silence, her eyes some times turning to examine him. He was a little too good to be real, and if there was something she had learned in her life, it was that if something was too good to be real, it probably is.She swallowed and tore her gaze off him, and just focused on the windows, till it was done. She had to go to the bar almost immediately after, and she waited till Andrew was gone, before she stepped out of the house again, and ran towards the bar.Alpha Zane took a sip of the bear, then squinted his eyes. It was bland compared to the heavy alcohol he was used to, and he shook his head a little distastefully and lowered the cup.He had gotten the job at Royalville. The only thing he had to do now was to find her. She didn't seem too far, however. He could smell her if he concentrated hard enough. Like rose. And lilies, and sometimes a little bit of spice. But she also sometimes smelled like blood, and fangs, and he knew there was someone close to her. Someone who shouldn't be there. He gave a low sigh, just as a girl gave a small shout, followed by a slapping sound. He raised his head to it, just as a man stood and covered the girl."I love it when they act so innocent. Don't act like you don't know your feisty attitude turns me on.""Get off me!" Jasmine yelled at the much older man, pushing him away and causing him to crash on the table of drinks behind him. The contents of the table fell off and caused a large collective shattering sound, and she gasped.Hell. She would have to pay for all of that now.The man turned back to her, his eyes wide with rage. "How dare you?"He raised his hand to slap her cheek, and Jasmine closed her eyes, anticipating the sharp sting. But it never came."Were you not taught to respect women?"The voice was silent, smooth, and in the folds of the baritones were promises of roses and beauty. She just wasn't sure why she believed those promises were meant for her.She raised her eyes to the man who had his back turned to her, his right hand holding the other man's hand in place. She swallowed, cowering behind him. This sort of thing always happened in her workplace, but it was rare for her to find someone who cared enough to enter for her. Most times, they were too drunk to even care, and she had to save herself on her own."Who are you?" The drunk man asked him, attempting to push him off.Zane held him in place however, his heart strangely aching with the small whimpers of the girl behind him."Did you cause trouble again, Jasmine?" Came the gruff voice of her employer. Before she could say a word, the big woman had turned her to face her, and landed a slap on her right cheek, following it up immediately with another on her left cheek. Her hair came on both sides of her face as she lowered her head, her eyes filled to the brim with tears."Get out!" The woman yelled, without even giving her a chance to explain.Zane pushed the other man off and turned, just as Jasmine ran out of the pub, her head lowered. His eyes squinted at her. Bright red hair, and nothing else."I will pay for the damages," he said to the woman, before following Jasmine outside, but she was nowhere to be found.Jasmine dragged herself home, her hair still falling on either sides of her, her eyes dry. She rarely ever let the tears that gathered drop, and if she took enough time, they would dry up on their own.Life had already made her weak enough, she didn't want to be weak on her own reactions too. Crying would only let the world know that it cut through her skin, and she wouldn't give that satisfaction. She opened the door and walked in to the darkness, then let her fingers roam around the wall to turn on the switch. The only light bulb flickered on before going off again. She sighed and made her way to the couch with only the streaks of light fron the moon outside streaming through her window, and she laid on the couch again, her eyes wide open. She felt around for her necklace, but she found her neck to be empty. Probably after that man grabbed her, or somewhere. She felt her eyes fill again. It was the last thing she had of her mother, and now, even that was gone. She swallowed, then let her eyes close, hoping to fall asleep before the world broke her completely.Zane twirled the cup in his hands, his eyes squinted. He hadn't seen his mate before, so he wasn't sure if she was a redhead. But he knew the redhead from earlier affected him in a way he was so unfamiliar with. It was like his heart had been crying along with her, his chest hurting the same way he assumed she was hurt. The worst thing was that the pain still didn't stop, and even when he lay back on his bed at night, she was all that filled his dreams. A girl whose face he didn't even know. The alarm clock rang violently, jerking Jasmine out of her sleep. She had somehow slept all through the night, without a single interruption. She sat up, her eyes skimming around. Nothing was broken, and she couldn't even remember waking up due to the noise like she did every single night. She swallowed, a smile immediately taking over. At least something good had happened last night, and for that alone, she was grateful. She stood up and made her way to the shower, making sure it was working well, before she went in.It was when she felt the water touch her skin that she realized. Her hands came up to touch the cold pendant resting on her chest like it hadn't been missing the night before.Jasmine's brows furrowed. She was almost sure she had lost it last night and now...now it was on her neck again, almost as if it was claiming her.Jasmine let her hands skim over the pendant, her breath hitching in her throat. She could remember the sharp pain she had felt from it the other day too, and it unnerved her. The pendant was...She shook her head. It was probably just a product of her own imagination, nothing else. She swallowed, then immediately went back to the shower. The first class was tiring, and amidst Andrew trying to catch her attention, she found herself slowly drifting to sleep. With a small huff, she propped up a book, then lay behind it, closing her eyes.Zane followed the middle aged woman, Mrs. James to the class he would now head, his eyes thin. He was almost sure the girl from last night could be the girl he had been searching for. But what was he to find her with? Her hair?He walked in to the class behind her, and it immediately fell silent."Listen up, class! Mr. Zane Atlantis here is going to be your new teacher. He is a professor, and I hope you will be able to lean from him.""Oh, he can teach m
The rest of the classes passed by in a kind of blur for Jasmine, as she kept up looking to Zane. Sometimes, their eyes met, and maybe it was just her imagination, but it felt like in those little instances, her body felt a lot warmer. She swallowed, shaking the idea out of her head. It was absurd. "Jasmine?"She slowly turned. She had forgotten all about Andrew, and she swallowed. "Oh, Andrew.""You sound like you forgot about me."She immediately shook her head. "No, its just...""Distracted?" He brought his hand to move her hair away, and her breath hitched at the slightest contact.Weirdly, she moved her eyes a little, and Zane was looking through some papers, not noticing them. They three were the only ones left in class, and Zane didn't seem to have any intention of leaving soon."What are you doing?"Andrew smiled, then dropped his hand. "Nothing. I wanted to ask you something."Jasmine nodded slowly. "Yeah?""Well...there is going to be a function of my parents. It's all the
Jasmine passed the comb through her hair one last time, then watched the mirror. She wasn't quite sure why she was making an effort today, but she knew it had something to do with the new neighbour. She immediately shook her head. Maybe she should let herself become a full adult before hitting on a man like that, but she couldn't help wanting to be noticed by him. She swallowed, then put the hair up, tying it into a high ponytail. She was wearing a dress, and she watched herself in the mirror again. She rarely wore dresses and she thought she could just let it wait till her 18th birthday by the end of the week. She swallowed and walked out, knowing if she spent one more minute in the house she would find herself running to change, and she was already late. She had just closed the door when she heard a voice behind her."You're late." She turned swiftly, and Zane was standing close to his car, an amused look on his face. He wore an all black ensemble this time around, his shirt left
Zane passed his hand through his hair once, his eyes thinning. He smelled of blood, the boy who hung around Jasmine. And he seemed to know him too. It was obvious."Damn it," he cussed under his breath, his eyes closing briefly. That hug hurt him more than anything else, and wished time would run faster, till she was a legal adult. Till he had all the right in the world to claim her.Jasmine smiled as Andrew leaned on her shoulder, his eyes coming to a close."Are you comfortable that way?"He nodded. "You are warm."She nodded. "Are you going to the hospital later? After school?""I would rather not. I would rather spend a bit of time here. With my friend."He leaned away, his eyes carrying a kind of slow burn intensity. It made Jasmine's breath hitch a little, but she said nothing, wondering why she suddenly thought of Zane. She swallowed just as he brought his hand to cup her right cheek, causing her to look up to him."You would stay with me, won't you?"She swallowed, but before
Zane rested on his car, his hands folding in front of him. He watched the door with intent, and once it opened, he lifted himself off the car and started to open the door."We ran into each other again," Jasmine said, trying to force her hair into a ponytail. He turned back, his expression clueless, then nodded. "Sure. I will drop you."She nodded gratefully and went to the passenger seat as he hopped in beside her."You had a good night's sleep?" she asked, turning slightly to him.He nodded. "Yes and you?""Well, I have been pretty excited for Saturday."His brows furrowed. "Saturday?"She nodded, her ponytail bouncing behind her. "I am turning eighteen then."He nodded, a wave of realization hitting him. He was excited for it too. Hell, more than she was."I bet you are. Being legal comes with a whole lot of advantages."She nodded, laughing. "At least, I can work wherever."He snickered a little, then shook his head. The rest of the ride, they talked about anything she wanted to t
Jasmine slowly walked into the hallways, her head down. She had heard the news, it was everywhere. Ian had been found dead in a lonely, deserted road. It wasn't possible he had gone there since he was still recovering fron the injuries Andrew gave him, and everyone has come to be alerted. They say it is a wild animal, but everyone at school believes otherwise."How could he go that far?""What is new about joking around with a girl? What did he say so bad that he had to kill him?""That's her. She is the girl.""She isn't even that pretty..."Jasmine swallowed, her hands clenched into fists as she walked down to the row of lockers. Andrew was standing in front of hers, his back to it, one leg propped up so his foot was flat out on the wall. She lowered her head, then took a step further, deciding to not open the locker at all."Do you believe it too?" Andrew suddenly asked, turning to her. He was wearing a hood, and when she turned, she could see how sunken his eyes were."We...we have
Jasmine opened the door to her home, the darkness meeting her eyes. She gave a small sigh as she walked to the single couch, then lay on it, a small smile taking over her lips. Saturday was just a day away, and then she would be able to work. Not just that, she would be legal. She tried to think of only the positive things that could happen on this particular birthday It gave her crazy ideas, most that ran along Zane Atlantis. She gave a small sigh and leaned back on the couch, pushing Andrew and the entire assault thing out of her mind. It wouldn't help to think of it now.She even contemplated skipping school the next day, which would be friday, because she didn't think she could deal with it all.Suddenly, her phone rang, and she stood up. It was in her bag, and she stretched to it, then removed the phone.Andrew.She swallowed, then slowly kept it back, her eyes closing. She didn't want to think of Andrew. But then the phone kept ringing, and ringing so hard, she finally decided t
Jasmine immediately moved away from Andrew, her eyes wide. "Zane. I..I mean, Sir. You are here."Zane's eyes raised up to Andrew, who was now standing one step behind Jasmine, his eyes thin, and a little sinister."What are you doing?" Zane asked again, forgetting his teacher persona for a minute. She swallowed hard. "Uhmm...Andrew was hurt last night and..."He didn't wait to finish hearing it, before he walked to her, grabbing her hand. She gave a small yelp as one hand came over the towel. "Zane, it was...""How are you comfortable with that guy, the both of you alone in here? Look at what you are wearing!"Jasmine swallowed, fully aware of Zane's point. She was on a towel, and Andrew was capable of anything. At least, from what she had seen. But he didn't. That was what mattered. He had done nothing."He didn't do anything.""How does it matter? Are you waiting for him to? You are coming with me."Suddenly, Andrew held on to her other hand, stopping Zane from pulling her away. "
Zane gave a small chuckle. "You have barely turned eighteen. I am not a predator."She looked up to him. "Is that the only reason? Or because you see me as a child who you absolutely..."He gave a smile. "You are attracted to me because I am older. Take some time for yourself."Jasmine swallowed. "You...will you wait for me?"He raised a brow. "You have something that belongs to me." He wanted to rephrase it so bad. Tell her that her, in entirety, body, soul, and matebonds, belonged to him. But he kept it to himself. In as much as she wanted him now, he knew better than to immediately indulge. He didn't want a fleeting attraction. He needed to slowly work on her, like a work of art, mould her to want only him, carve her so she could only accommodate him. It was the perfect thing to do. She was, according to the moon goddess, his own.As long as he kept her away from the bloodsuckers, she would be completely safe, and he would have all the time in the world to do whatever he wanted.Sl
"Where are you taking me?" Jasmine asked after a while of driving in silence.Zane had seemed very intent on not saying a single word to her, and she had tried to hold up with the silence too. But the more she tried, the more guilt rushed through her, and she had finally given up."I don't know either." He sighed as it left his lips, then suddenly brought the car to a stop.He turned to Jasmine, who was surprised, her eyes wide, one hand stretched to the car dashboard to stop her from darting forward."What are you doing?" He slowly turned to her, his back resting on the door. "Do you want me to apologize?""For what?""For earlier. Or what would you want? An explanation?"Jasmine sat back. "I am not a child. I would have known how to protect myself had Andrew...""He beat that guy up like that, you think you stand a chance?"Jasmine swallowed, knowing how right he really was. "But I...""Look at me, Jasmine."She turned slowly, and she swallowed, her eyes taking in his deep grey eye
