Catalina
I've spent days thinking of an escape plan but so far I've come up with nothing. The house was guarded, wherever I went there was at least one man with a gun. I was only allowed to go out if there was a group of bodyguards with me. It was frustrating but I continued with my activities normally to avoid raising suspicions. I cooked breakfast knowing fully well he wouldn't eat, I danced for him whenever he wanted, I went out with my security without complaining. Trust….I was building trust so that when the time came for me to escape it would be so easy.
My problem was Gabriella. She treated me like an outcast. She only talked to me when it was very necessary or when I asked her a question. I was lonely in that mansion and I thought we could become friends. Friends my foot. Gabriella would be the first to report me to Miguel if she has even the slightest idea of my escape plan.
Miguel. He seemed more occupied these days. Maybe a serious issue in the mafia world. I didn't want to bother myself with those things. The thought of the activities they partake in makes me sick to my bones. Wait…..sick!! I just got a brilliant idea.
The next morning, I didn't make breakfast and I remained in my room the whole day. I didn't make breakfast the next day too and I stayed inside. Later in the day, Gabriella came to my room.
“Miguel sent me to check up on you. He wants to know why you haven't made breakfast.”
“Not like he eats it anyway.” “And if he wants to know he can ask me himself.”
“Don't get cute with me Catalina. Give me an answer.”
“I'm sick.”
For a moment she looked as if she didn't believe me.
“I'll call a doctor.”
“No!” Calling a doctor will ruin my plans. “I need to go to the hospital!”
“Why?”
Think fast Cat, think fast.
“I need an x-ray,” I blurted out.
“Why?”
“I can only tell Miguel the reason.”
“Okay then.” Gabriella looked unbothered. She quietly walked out and shut the door. I'm sure she'd make a phone call to Miguel.
Miguel came straight to my room as soon as he got back. He knocked furiously at my door, I purposely waited for a while before opening it.
“What game are you playing Catalina? What do you mean by an x-ray?!” He raised his voice and looked me dead in the eye. This wasn't the time to be scared, I told myself.
“I'm not playing games, I need one.” I replied calmly.
“For what?”
“When you pushed me against the wall like a mad dog!! Didn't you think it'd hurt?”
“That was like a week ago.”
“It still hurts! And on top of it all I still had to dance for you. The pain has become unbearable. At this rate I might not be able to dance again.” I lied.
The look on his face was mortifying, I guess the thought of me not dancing again really haunted him.
“You're going to the hospital first thing tomorrow morning. Goodnight.”
This is it. Tomorrow, I'll be out of this place and Miguel's life.
———————————————
I wore light clothes in case I needed to run. I hid extra money in my bra and I made sure I ate enough that morning. As we got ready to leave, I looked around the house for the last time. This place felt like a prison and I was finally going to be free from its shackles.
Miguel instructed five bodyguards to go with me, Gabriella was coming too. We drove quietly to the hospital, it was very big. Two men stayed at the entrance to look out while three followed me in with Gabriella. As we walked, I scanned the area thoroughly, working out my plan.
I thought I'd have to wait for a while to see a doctor but at the mention of Miguel's name I was attended to immediately.
Gabriella followed me to the doctor's office where I explained my fake symptoms and how desperately I needed an x-ray to know if I had a broken bone. The doctor told me I'd be ready to go in for an x-ray in two minutes. I have two minutes to get rid of Gabriella.
“I left my phone in the car, can you help me get it?”
“You'll get your phone once we're done here.”
“I want to call Miguel.”
“Use my phone.”
“I don't think Miguel will be happy if I tell him about this.” I threatened.
“He'll understand.” She stretched out her hand and offered me her phone.
Shit. This is not going as planned.
“I need some privacy.”
“Why?”
“Did Miguel tell you the reason I need an x-ray?”
“No.”
“Then I don't think you need to hear this.”
“I'll be outside.”
Think fast Catalina.
I dialed Miguel's number, then I held my stomach tightly and made a disgruntled moan. I pushed open the door and handed over the phone to Gabriella.
“Talk to Miguel, I need to use the restroom urgently…….ahh….my stomach” I continued holding my stomach and ran quickly towards the direction of the toilet. Gabriella made a move to follow me but I heard Miguel's voice on the phone and she stopped to answer. Good. The bodyguards wouldn't follow me to a female restroom and I had like one minute before Gabriella came to check on me.
I moved fast. My only obstacle was the guys at the entrance but I had an idea as I ran past a doctor's office. Luckily it wasn't locked, so I entered inside and grabbed the coat hanging there and put it on.
Sorry to whoever owned this.
If I keep my head down and quickly walk past them, they wouldn't notice me. Gabriella should be looking for me by now, but I'd be long gone before she dreams of catching me.
I walked as quickly as I could, running would attract attention to me and I didn't want attention. The guards placed at the entrance weren't there anymore. Why did they leave their position? I wondered. Better for me anyway. I was out of the hospital now, I only needed to get a cab and I'll finally be free. I waved down a taxi and got in.
“Where to ma'am?”
“Train station please.”
I buried my head in my laps and sobbed quietly. This was it. My freedom. I didn't need to be a slave to such a dangerous man or be a part of his dark underworld. I would go to a nice little village and start my life again.
Suddenly, the car stopped.
Were we already at the station?
I raised my head and almost fainted in shock.
I was in front of Miguel's huge gate and there he was…. standing in front of my car with a gun in his hand.
MIGUEL I could see the fear in her eyes. Yes. She should be scared of me. Maybe she hadn't the slightest idea what I am capable of. How dangerous I can be. She looked down at the gun in my hand and swallowed hard. My boys went over to her and dragged her forward until she stood in front of me.“You really thought you could succeed with your childish escape plan? Do you know the punishment for defying me?” I asked her.“You tell me.” She tried to look defiant. But I could see through her. The fear she felt beneath the layers of thick skin.“Death.” I announced.“Kill me then. Death is better than this life you want to subject me to.” I admired her bravery. But I couldn't let it show. I hated disrespect. If I don't curb her now, she might turn out to be more trouble later. If I look weak in front of my people, it wouldn't be long before someone would think they can overthrow me. I pointed the gun to her head.“Are you sure Catalina? Do you really want to die?” “Will you really ki
CATALINA The kiss was rough, demanding, urgent. His hand was cupped firmly on the back of my neck, the pressure increased. I didn't know why, but I parted my lips, inviting him. A tiny moan escaped my throat as his tongue met mine. His mouth moved over mine, crushing down harder each passing second. His teeth nipped painfully at my lip, a second moan escaped me.He stopped suddenly and looked down at me. His eyes were darker now. They were filled with pleasure. Dangerous pleasure.“You don't know the things I want to do to you Catalina.” I couldn't form a response. I only looked at him. His face was that of a man overcome by lust and desires.“I own you don't I? Take off your clothes.”Like someone under a spell, I slowly began to undress. My eyes were still fixed on his. Somehow I wanted to know, what it meant to be owned by this man, what depths of pleasure he would take me to if I let him.I stood there, unclad. I hated to admit it, but the way he looked at my naked body made
MIGUELThe whiskey burned as it slid down my throat, but it wasn’t enough to chase away the frustration I was feeling.I shouldn’t have left her. I didn't want to leave her.I only wanted to push her, to know if she'd break, to prove to her and myself that I had complete control, that I own her. And yet, it was difficult for me to walk away from her.Damn it!Gabriella entered my room and gave me a file. “Are you okay?” She asked after studying my face.“Yes. Is this the list?”“Yes, that's the list of everyone attending the party, so no surprises.” She took a sip from my martini, and looked at me. I knew that look. “What is it Gabriella?”“She contacted me. Asked if she can join you as a plus one.”My eyes darkened. “I told you to cut off all contact with her.”“She just called. I couldn't ignore her.”I scoffed. “She doesn't know how to let go does she?”“Are you going with her?”“Never.”“You need a plus one, should I arrange someone for you?” Gabriella asked.“No need. I'll go wi
CATALINAMiguel’s eyes were fixed on me, heavy with something unreadable. His posture had changed—more rigid, more alert.I knew this dress would catch his attention. That was the point. I didn't trust Gabriella to get a dress that would turn heads. I feel like she's out to get me.A fitted red gown hugged my curves, the fabric smooth like liquid silk. The neckline dipped low, exposing just enough skin to make a statement but not enough to be indecent. A slit ran up my leg, giving me freedom of movement, while the delicate diamond earrings I had chosen added an air of elegance. I swayed my hips rhythmically as I walked. I'm a dancer after all. I could be a seductress if I wanted. I wanted revenge for what happened with Miguel. I wanted him to desire me so much that his body hurt from it.Gabriella clicked her tongue. “You took long enough.”I smirked. “Perfection takes time.”“Getting feisty, are you?” Miguel’s jaw tightened, I saw his fingers curl into fists before he relaxed them. H
MIGUEL “Is this a joke?” I would have enjoyed the look on her face if it was a joke. But it wasn't. Pablo hated me. He always looked for my weak points, if he knew someone was close to me he'd want to use that person to get to me since he wouldn't be able to ordinarily.“I'm not joking. We have to get out of here.”“You're trying to scare me right? I'm not leaving.” I could see she was scared, but somehow she didn't want to believe me. Ever stubborn Catalina. “Why would I be Pablo's target?” She asked.“He's my enemy and you just told him you're a significant part of my life, which is a big lie. So now he's going to try everything to get to me through you, do you understand?” It pained me to think that I'd have to go extra lengths to protect this girl. If I know Pablo well, he's already planning something. “Can we go now?” I asked impatiently. She was about to say something when a sharp piercing sound filled the air. Catalina froze, she looked terrified. I wrapped my arms around her
CATALINA The next few days were bliss for me. I was feeling ecstatic. My little revenge against Miguel was so sweet that I relived the memory in my head every hour. His facial reaction was priceless. I was glad I mustered up the courage to do it. But the problem is, I hardly saw Miguel after that day. I didn't know if he was genuinely busy or just trying to avoid me. What really goes on in the Mafia underworld? I thought he had minions to do all his bidding.I slammed the spoon on the table, “Ugh….I'm tired of making these useless breakfasts.”Gabriella eyed me from where she was standing. “You don't do anything around here. Quit whining.”“I know you don't like me.”“Correct.”I sneered at her, “but you can't do anything about it, can you?”“You're becoming awfully annoying these days. Better be careful with those wings or it might just get cut off.”“Are you threatening me?” “Is breakfast usually this noisy?” It was Miguel…..I turned and there he was, still in his night attire.
CATALINA I haven't slept for days. I keep thinking about it. I tried not to, but it just happens. Miguel didn't speak to me after that night, he didn't come down for breakfast either. If this was his own way of punishing me, then he's won. I couldn't take it anymore. Why does he keep confusing me? I was supposed to hate him but these days I didn't understand the feelings I had for him. Miguel had always been like a storm to me, dangerous, unpredictable, and impossible to control. But in that shower, under the cold ice water, I saw something else. Desire. Control. A cruel kind of tenderness.I hated him.I hated him more because I wanted him.I decided to explore more of the house today, partly to keep my mind off him and partly because I was bored, and curious. I heard footsteps behind me.“You should be careful, Catalina.”Gabriella.I turned to her, crossing my arms. “What now?”She tilted her head. “Why do you still mope around knowing fully well Miguel doesn't like it.”I scof
CATALINAThe ride home was silent. My hands trembled in my lap, but I refused to show fear in front of him. Miguel’s grip on the steering wheel was firm, his expression unreadable. He had killed a man. Just like that. And what scared me most?He felt nothing. The city lights blurred past as we drove back, but my mind stayed in that fight club, in that moment when the gunshot echoed in my ears, I've never experienced anything like that.“You’re quiet,” Miguel finally said, breaking the silence.I swallowed, staring out the window. “What do you want me to say? That I’m fine? That watching you shoot a man in cold blood was fun?”His lips curved slightly. “I didn’t do it for fun. Besides, you said you were bored, I've given you something to think about for a while.”“You think this is a joke?’“It's not Catalina. Someone tried to kill us.”“You could have handled that differently. Why choose violence?”Miguel’s grip on the wheel tightened. “Violence is the only language people like Alvaro
MIGUEL She looked beautiful, and sexy. Even though I've come to realize that Catalina would always look beautiful and sexy to me. She frowned as she walked up to me. What I did still upset her. She had no idea what else I'd planned for us today. “Stop staring at me.”I smirked. “I can't do that Mi amor.”She rolled her eyes. “Let's just go.”We drove silently to the club, I ordered my guys to wait outside, we were going in alone. Catalina gasped as she entered. “Why is this place empty?” She turned to me. “Don't tell me you rented the whole place.”“It's my club, I don't have to rent it out.”“So you ordered everyone to leave?”I simply shrugged.“That's just….bad.”“Are you sure? Because I can see you blushing.”“I'm not blushing! How are we supposed to have fun when it's just the two of us?”“We can totally have fun by ourselves. The music is playing, you dance and I watch you. That's fun.”“That's just fun for you. It's torture for me.”“Live with it.”She groaned loudly. “I nee
CATALINA I wondered what was wrong with Miguel, but whatever it was, I was loving it. He wanted to take me out and I was really excited about it. Though I had to act like it was a nuisance to me.“You want me to. What should I do with that?”Miguel groaned. “Don't be a bore Catalina.”“Okay, but only because you begged.”He laughed. “Begged?”“Yup.”His arms circled my waist. “You always beg me, but you don't see me making fun of you.”“I don't beg you. When did I?”He leaned and whispered in my ear. “When I touch you, when you moan my name, you always beg me not to stop.”I suddenly felt uncomfortable. “What are you saying? That's not true.”He nibbled on my ear. “Are you sure about that?”I breathed deeply. “I'm sure.”He breathed into my ear and used his tongue to tickle my ear, his warm breath and gentle tongue sent shivers down my spine. “Should we try it out?” He asked me.“Uhmm….no, I don't think we should.”He slid his hands inside my dress and traced his fingers down my ba
MIGUEL Andrés made a huge discovery. The spy has been discovered. He was one of the guys that guarded my house. Andrés found a burner phone used to make secret calls in his room and papers that resembled the one used to write the note that threatened me.“So, where is he now?” I asked.“He fled, but our men are looking for him. I'll bring him to you soon, boss.”“I need him alive, I have some questions for him.”“Yes boss.”It seemed strange that Jose would be a spy, he didn't seem like it. It's always the unsuspecting ones right? I still didn't rule out the fact that there was still danger lurking around. I had to be extremely careful, especially with Catalina. It has been very hard pretending to not care about her, when I saw her faint it was like my world was turning upside down. She thought I put on that show to scare her, whilst I only did it to scare other gang leaders that wanted to even think of going against me. The news would spread that Miguel Alejandro was still as ru
CATALINA Slowly, I opened my eyes, my vision was blurry, and my body was still trembling. My breath came in shallow gasps as the memory of what I had just witnessed replayed in my mind. Blood. Gunshots. Miguel's cold, unbothered laughter. I blinked a few times, trying to make sense of where I was. The curtains and the feel of the fabric beneath me— I was on my bed, in my room. "You're awake," a familiar voice said. I turned my head and found Andrés sitting close to me, his arms crossed over his chest. His usual playful demeanor was gone, replaced by something unreadable."What happened?" My voice was weak."You fainted," he replied simply.I swallowed hard. "I saw—" I couldn't finish the sentence, I was still scared.Andrés shushed me. "You don't have to say it."My stomach churned. The man I thought I knew, the one who made me feel safe, had just executed three people in front of an entire crowd without a second thought. And no one—not a single person—reacted. It was a normal
CATALINAI didn't appreciate the new atmosphere around the house. Everyone walked on eggshells because of Miguel's new raging temper. I myself avoided him, partly because of what happened in my room the other night and partly because I always seemed to be the cause of his problems these days. I had a theory, there was definitely a spy around here. How else would they know about my relationship with Miguel? And no matter how I think about it, Gabriella seemed to be the suspect that best fits the category. She's the only one who goes out and comes in as she pleases, there was that suspicious phone call and who hates the fact that Miguel has changed ever since I came into his life? Gabriella.I contemplated telling Miguel but he wouldn't believe me. He'd take her side as usual and brush me off like some stupid girl who doesn't know anything. “So that's your theory?” Andrés asked me, he was the only one I could talk to about my hunch concerning Gabriella.“What do you think? Miguel d
MIGUEL I laid her drunken body not so gently on her bed and tried to cover her up.“Be careful with me!” She demanded. “Big, bad Miguel.”“Reckless Catalina.”“I'm not reckless.”“You think it's funny? Going around exposing your body? MY BODY!” I was trying hard to control myself. Seeing her up there, dancing and mingling with that man annoyed me. I wanted to make him suffer for a while, then kill him slowly just for laying his filthy hands on her.“It's not your body.”“That’s funny. I paid for it.”“I've had enough of all this. Stop confusing me Miguel. One minute you're all over me, the next you're avoiding me. Do you even know what you want? Clearly you don't because if you did…..”“I'm going to need you to shut up now,” I said, and kissed her.She didn't hesitate to return the kiss. I pulled gently on her lower lip. “That worked,” I said as I pulled myself away from her.“This is not fair,” she said. She kissed me again, harder this time. “It's not fair to make me want you so
CATALINA I adjusted my sunglasses and glanced at Gabriella, who was busy scrolling through her phone. We stood outside a small café. The midday sun was bright, and scorching. I didn't want to be here. It was supposed to be a bonding exercise, an attempt by Miguel to smooth over our differences, but so far, we hadn't said a word to each other.Gabriella let out a sigh and tucked her phone into her bag. “Aren't you going in?”“No. Don't tell me you want to spend the day at a café?”“Do you have any ideas?”I hesitated. “No, but if I come up with one, it wouldn't be as lame as yours.”“I heard what Miguel said to you. You're only doing this because you want something from him so I don't expect you to put much effort into it.”“You're not wrong. But I haven't been outside in a long while, so I'm not going to waste my time at a café.”“So, where are we going first?” she asked, her tone was distant.I crossed my arms. “Well, we can go anywhere, do anything. We have Miguel's card and you
CATALINA “Are you sure of what you're saying?” Andrés asked me for the second time.I nodded. “Of course I'm sure. I have to do this.”He laughed at me. “You can't even look at the gun, how do you intend to use it?”“Just teach me Andrés.”“It was cool when it was little stuffs like kicks and blows, this is on another level.”“You see, that's it. I realized that those things are child's play compared to what I'm really facing here.” I had told Andrés to teach me how to use a gun and now he's freaking out. After overhearing Gabriella's conversation, I got scared. What if I had more enemies than Pablo? Learning how to land a blow won't do me any good. If I had to learn how to defend myself against people in the Mafia, I had to think and act like the Mafia.“Okay what's gotten into you? Spit it out.”I sighed, “nothing it's just…” I whispered to him, “I'm scared.”“Of Gabriella?”I nodded.“You're really overthinking things Catalina. Gabriella is harmless. Scary, but harmless. She w
MIGUEL When we waited minutes for Catalina to come back, we decided she already called it quits for the day and headed inside. But I heard voices in a heated argument and rushed to see what was going on. Catalina and Gabriella looked like they were about to throw blows.“Spit it out Gabriella. What are you hiding?!” Catalina screamed at Gabriella.“I don't know what you mean.” Gabriella said. She turned to me, “Miguel she's crazy. She's talking crazy!”“Stop it both of you. What is this about?”“Gabriella is hiding something.” Catalina accused.“That's ridiculous. Okay then, what am I hiding?”“You're in cahoots with someone.”“Calm down Catalina.” I interfered, “Are you sure of what you're saying? I don't take false accusations lightly.”“I'm sure. I heard her say, "they needed to act fast and get rid of the obstacle.”“Who's they?”“Ask her! And ask her who the obstacle is…is it me? Say something Gabriella!” Catalina lunged towards Gabriella but Andrés quickly held her back.Gabr
