Calla immediately perked up at the sight of the ring on her finger.

The ring, featuring a huge central diamond surrounded by numerous smaller sparkling stones, was almost absurdly extravagant.

She had seen such rings before—but only in magazines—and they were only worn by celebrities and the wives of wealthy men.

She stared at the massive diamond ring on her hand for a long time before turning her gaze to Mercer, who was watching her.

"What? Why are you doing this?" she asked in shock.

Mercer smiled slightly and took her left hand. "You need a ring for a wedding, so I had Simon get one made," he said nonchalantly.

"But did it have to be this big? How much did this cost?" Calla asked, still staring in awe at the large diamond ring. She couldn't help but think, rather pragmatically, that the money would have been better spent as a wedding gift. She could have invested it and made more money instead.
