Chapter Forty

When I came out of my room, I set Mindy’s bags on the dining table. Rich was sitting on the sofa, his elbows on his knees and hands holding his head. 

“Did they close the bedroom door on you?” I asked, crossing my arms and leaning against the sofa table.

His head popped up, and he grinned. “Technically I didn’t follow them, so when they closed the door, I wasn’t there.”

“Probably for the best,” I laughed, heading into the kitchen. I’d caught a glimpse of a small wine cellar when we first got into the room. A glass of wine might be good at this point in the night. “So, as we both assumed, it’s just going to be the two of us. Want to bust into the wine?”

“I’m all about that. Any Merlot?” He glanced at Mindy’s door and nodded. “And I think you’re right about our friends. Hopefully the walls are soundproof.”

I poured two glasses, then join
