"Beautifully?" she asked again, the cackle not stopping as she doubled over her hands, patting her knees in laughter.
Micah did not like the scene before him; he was not saying anything funny, so she should not be laughing as hard as she was laughing. He had expected to meet her at home on her knees, begging him to take her back. She should be crying and asking him to help her because she had nowhere else to go, but she felt different and out of reach.
It was like she was possessed by a confident spirit. "What is so funny?"
"You think that a scum like you can ever produce anything beautiful," she said, looking at the car that had parked right before his car. She knew that was her ride, and she did not want to cause a scene. A well-built man who could pass for a bodybuilder came down from the driver's side and jogged to her. The man approaching them made Micah lose his train of thought.
"Hello Ms..." Elara waved her hand in the air to stop him from addressing her as a Quinn as much as she wanted to see Micah's reaction to knowing he had thrown away the real chance at being associative with the Quinn family; she knew that this was not the time. She had to have a good, strong plan and come back for him. "I will take that," the man said, understanding what she meant by stopping him.
"Thank you," she murmured, pushing the bag to him. "Bye Micah," she said, turning around. She did not have the time to stand there and cry over him; he was not worth it one bit.
"Elara, what is this?" Micah said, holding her hand to stop her from moving.
"Miah, can you please let me go?"
"So you have a man today, and you were thinking of making me feel bad for leaving you? No wonder you are not crying about it or anything like that. You seem to have moved on even faster than I did; was that why you broke it off with me?" he asked.
She shook her head and forcefully took her hand away from his. "You must think that everyone is as scummy as you are, but there are real people with better hearts out there," she murmured and leaned into him. "By the way, no one cries when they take out the trash," she added and walked away.
"Elara, what are you doing? Where do you think you are going? You are mine, and until I ask you to go, you can't run away from me. I will find you and deal a great deal with you," he shouted threats at her as she walked to the car.
"I hope you do," she said, turning to him before turning back to the car, where the driver had opened up the door for her. She gave him a nod and slid into the car. Micah rushed to her; the man quickly closed the door and turned to him.
"I will take her now," he said, bobbing his head a bit before turning around and coming into the car. He started the ignition and drove away with Micah, wondering how Elara was able to get in touch with someone who owned something so good.
He turned back to the house and stood by the door. He knocked on it, expecting that Elara would get the door from inside, help him take off his jacket, and ask all about his day. She would also have a hot meal waiting for him. It was at that moment that he realized that he did not have the key to get into his house.
"Oh f*ck"
"Elara, it really is you!" Isla squealed from the door as soon as the driver opened the car door for Elara, and she stepped down. "You are here." Elara's family had not seen her in three years; even though she constantly saw her parents and brother in the news, she had not seen Isla, who was still being protected. Even though she had not had contact with her family for that long, she made sure to always find a way to talk to them without the meet-up. Elara was grateful to her sister, who was now running to her; if Isla had not reached out to tell her that her boyfriend was going around town partying with another woman, she would not have known that she was being cheated on. "Oh, how I’ve missed you," Isla said, squeezing her sister in a hug. Isla was very expressive with all of her actions, so the hug did not come as a surprise to her at all. "I have missed you as well," Elara replied, squeezing her back. "I do not think I would believe that," Isla said, taking her head back and n
"What is this?" Elliot asked. Elara walked towards them; she stopped suddenly as if she were trying to inspect them. Her parents were the reason she went so far and wide in search of love. They constantly showed them that it was possible; even though they had been together for almost thirty years, they still acted like young people in their honeymoon phase. "Are you here for real, or is my mind playing tricks on me because I miss you so much?" Clara asked. She turned to her husband, and sure enough, the expression on his face made her know that she was the only one seeing their daughter standing by the door. "She is really here, right?" she asked in a higher pitch than normal. "She is," Elliot nodded. Before he could say anything more, Clara was out of sight, her hands wrapped around her daughter, squeezing her tightly. "Oh my goodness!" she let out in a huff. "It is real," she said with her eyes closed as if she had to shut off one of her senses so she could enjoy the hug to the f
"Oh my god!" Isla exclaimed as they sat on the bed. She had exclaimed at least ten times since they had arrived, and they had been in there for barely five minutes."If I had a million dollars for each time you exclaimed, guess who would be buying a new car?" Elara said, and her sister laughed. "Still very sarcastic and quirky, huh?" Isla said and Elara laughed. Her heart ached, but she laughed; she was not sure if she was to be laughing at all; she had just gotten cheated on by Micah and left after she thought they were going to have a family together."You know it's okay to cry, right?" Isla said after a brief moment of silence."Cry? What do you mean by cry? Why would I cry?" "Your eyes are heavy like the clouds on a rainy day, and your lips are trembling as if they are ready to make a sound, yet you want to act tough and not cry?" Isla said.Elara could only blame her parents for making her and her siblings so knitted together. Why was her sister walking in her head even though
THE NEXT DAY"Where have you been? You are always sneaking in and out of the house as you wish these days," Sarah said as her daughter sat by the table. "What do you mean by sneaking?" Zara asked, running her hand through her hair in annoyance. "What time did you get back yesterday?" Sarah asked."Can you get off the girl's back?" Carlos asked as he strolled into the tiny kitchen and sat beside her. "Are you asking me to get off my daughter's back? Whose back should I then get on?" Sarah asked, dropping two plates to their front, both plates making a loud sound as they dropped to the table. "Should I go out to train other children?" she asked, going back to the stovetop to pick up her own plates. "Is this all we have for breakfast?" Carlos asked, looking down at scrambled eggs in front of him. "If you earned a bit more, then maybe we might have a bit more to eat," she said in spite. "What was that?" Carlos asked, his eyebrows going up. "Mom, why are you trying your best to pick
"Get me on the phone with Ms. Clark," Ezra said as he strolled into the officer. Mary, his assistant, looked up and stumbled to her feet, slamming her knees into the edge of the table. She bent over, holding her knees as she winced in pain. She took a sharp breath, feeling it fill her lungs with air as she tried to stand up. She was not sure if her ears had heard well or if her boss was asking her to get in touch with his fiance for him. "Mr. Thatcher?" she asked, standing up to follow him. "Mary, are you going to get her on the phone or not?" he asked, taking off his coat and sliding into his chair. "If I may, sir, I would love to stay out of the drama this time," she said, moving closer to the table. She still felt scrawled by his former request and how it had ended up. Olivia Marie, who was his wife-to-be, was not pleased with her, and funny how she was the one who took all of the heat. "Are you disobeying me?" Ezra asked, holding to the edge of the table and pulling his chair
“Come on, Olivia, you can't be like this,” Ezra let out, frustrated. He was wrong, but she might be blowing it out of proportion. “Don't be like that. How else do you want me to be?” she sneered. He cleared his throat and stood up as he began pacing the entire floor. “I am sorry about how it turned out; I am just not ready to...” "Ezra, we are getting married in three months; when are you going to finally be ready to show the world that we are together?” she asked, taking a deep breath. “Olivia…”“It is Olivia-Marie and you would address me as such.” "Olivia-Marie,” he took a deep breath. He had no excuse after standing her up. She had planned this entire engagement party for them so that he could meet her friends and some other people, but he was not interested in doing that yet. “Are you still waiting? Are you still hoping?” she asked, piercing through his thoughts. “Still waiting?” he asked his mind, trying to decipher what she meant. “Are you still waiting for her? The wom
"I have been curious to know." "Mom, not now," Isla said. They were at the table ready for breakfast, Elliot and Ronan had left beforehand to get to work so they were left with only the ladies and Isla knew her mom was going to ask her sister about what happened that made her return home. Clara was glad to see her father, but she wanted to know why she was suddenly home after going without contact for three years. "I know you are curious, and I would tell you, but can I first eat this delicious rice meal?" She looked up at her mom. Clara nodded and wondered if her daughter had been starved of good meals since she left the house. "Have you not been eating well?" she asked, and her daughter smiled at her and shook her head. "Mom, I have been eating very well, so you do not need to worry." Clara made a sound at the back of her throat; it was obvious she was not impressed by the answer that her daughter had given her. "Aren't you going to eat?" Elara asked, looking up at her mother
"Mom, I am at work. Why are you calling me?" Micah said rudely over the phone to his mom. "Can't a mom call her son again? Why are you being so rude to me so early in the morning?" Cora replied."Why are you calling?" Micah asked, ignoring her questions. He knew how dramatic she could be and what she could do to him just because he ignored her call, and that was the reason he picked up. "Can Zara join us for dinner tonight?" "Mom, I don't know; why do you want her to join us for dinner?" "Since we can't meet her family, I invited your aunty and her husband so she could get familiar with the family," Cora said beaming with pride. "MOM," Micah said, almost screaming her ears off. "What is it? Why are you screaming at me?" Cora asked her own voice going up as well. "Why wouldn't I scream at you? I explained to you a million times why we have to keep this a secret from others, and yet you have gone to invite Aunty and Uncle? Why did you think this was okay without asking me first?"
"WHAT?!" Elara could not help but exclaim in shock. She could not believe that Isla had been right about the situation. She had been so sure that the woman was not pregnant and that her friend had said it to buy them time. Maybe they did not think that she would be meeting Ezra soon and that she might be asking him about it."She is infertile and can never get pregnant; if she is pregnant, then it is a miracle and it is definitely not mine," he said. From his expression, she could tell that he was being serious."Are you saying that...""I am saying that we have not had sex in a year.""You date but..." She did not know if they were supposed to be having this conversation and even more the reason she was upset to hear that before now they used to have sex. She cleared her throat and gently rubbed her throat. "I mean, I did not deserve to know all of the details.""You asked so I thought you wanted to know," he said and then shrugged."I wanted to know but not all of the details," she
DAY OF THE DATE BETWEEN EZRA AND ELARAElara was nervous; if she was being honest, she had not been on a date in a long time and it was weird for her. It felt like a time for her to reject him officially. He wanted a date to the extent that he had to involve their parents and since that was what he wanted, she gave it to him but now she was going to make sure it ended there."Thank you for coming out tonight," he said as they sat down. He had gotten to the restaurant earlier and waited for her outside so they could go in together. She did not like the idea but the restaurant he chose was not crowded so she did not express her displeasure out loud."Well, you basically forced me out so you are welcome.""I forced you out? When did I do that?""You sent your dad to my dad and voila, we are sitting here on a date when you have a fiancée." She watched the expression on his face harden and release immediately. She did not know how the evening was going to go but she knew that she had to te
"My father found out" Chole said pacing the floor of the hotel room. They always met in a hotel room, Ephiram assured her that was the best place to meet, as they would never get caught by anybody. As soon as he noticed her father leaving the house she called up Ephriam and asked that they meet. They had just left each other but they were back to each other gain."I think that is the best news I have heard all day" Ephriam beamed with joy."What?" Chole asked confused. "This is not supposed to go like this" she replied with a frown on her face."How is this supposed to go?"Ephriam asked as he shifted in the chair. "We are getting married aren't we?""Yes, of course we are," she said in a hurry because she did not want him to overthink it."Then what is the big deal of him finding out?""That is because I am sure he has gone to confront your dad and now your dad would know too.""I was planning on introducing him to you this week; remember the date I asked you to go with me? There is a
Alfie barged into the Santiago family house when he was denied by the man; his bodyguards earned their keep when they powered through and allowed him in. Alfie was angry enough that his daughter was leaving a Quinn and yet she had to go get married to someone he did not approve of. When he got into the house, he waited by the door as if it was a crime for him to be seen around the house. Roland had been told what happened and he sent his assistant to go get Alfie up to meet him."Is he truly afraid to come down to meet?" Alfie asked as the assistant stood opposite him. The lady who had braces on her teeth and a high bun that looked like what belonged in a club, alongside her tight-fitting top that made her breasts look larger than they were, looked stunned at the words from him that did not fail to appear on her face."What?" she let out in a whisper as she looked him up and down. This was the first time that she saw someone like him face to face. Most times it was from a distance or

"Where have you been?" Alfie's voice came out in a whisper as he watched his daughter sneak back into the house.Chole had been startled to see him there; whenever she got back to the house after spending the night with Ephraim, her father was always asleep but she had to be careful, which was why she snuck in. Turns out that her paranoia was the right thing to do. She had her shoes in her hand and her hair was in a mess on the top of her head as if she had gotten in a fight. Alfie stood up from the chair he had been waiting in all night since he needed to talk to her."You did not answer my question," he continued as he tried to close the gap between them."Since when did you care about where I go?" She shot at him. "Since ever, I am your father and I have the right to ask you these things," he replied."Of course, you are my father; no one is contesting that position with you," she said, rolling her eyes.Anytime she and her father got into a fight, he never failed to mention it t
"You talk as if you know a lot of things but I am sure you are saying these things so I give up but I would never give up on getting back with her," Micah replied."Oh please, you think her family is sitting on their hands?" she asked and he stared at her with a straight face. "What do you mean?" "I am sure that by now they are already looking for a better fit for her. I mean, she was not really affected by the rumours but still, they can't sit on their hands and allow her to get ruined by you. I am sure they are working on a plan." "She must still love me. I am sure that was why she made such an effort to be at the wedding." Zara threw her head back and laughed so loudly that he was irritated by it. "You look smart but you are kind of dumb." Her words pierced through him and he opened his mouth to speak but she raised her hand to him since she was not yet done with her words. "You want to be rich and be amongst them so desperately yet you have no idea what they are and why they
Micah suddenly swerved to the side of the road, barely avoiding a collision with the car from behind. He parked the car by the side and turned to her.She sat with her eyes wide open as she clutched the seat belt as if her life depended on it. "Are you looking to kill me?" Her voice was slow and steady but anyone could hear the feral hidden in it."Of course not; at the moment I made a decision and maybe it was not the best decision but I made it because I wanted to," he said. She could tell he was trying to hint at something but she could not get it.She took off the seat belt and turned till her back was at the door. She pressed her lips together and shook her head. "I am trying but I just don't get it." "In that bar that night, you decided at the moment to do something that could ruin my life and you did not bother to look back," he replied. She blinked as his words stung but she was shocked this was the first time he was bringing it up. He opened his mouth and she braced herself
Zara sat in the car, her eyes firmly glued on the road ahead. She knew what the doctors were going to say and she knew Micah would not like it. She saw genuine happiness in his eyes when she told him about the baby. She could tell that he had gotten married to her because of money but in reality, he must want a child of his own. He must be the one with the problem after all; she had tried all she could to make sure that she got pregnant yet he could not do it. "Is there something you'd like to tell me?" Micah knew that she was not pregnant because she was not that subtle at disposing of the test strips. "Anything like?" She asked, rubbing her palm on her lap and flashing him a fake smile. "Anything at all about this marriage or your pregnancy?" he replied with his voice raspy as he spoke. "There is nothing to say," Zara replied and then looked out the window by her side."When we step into that hospital, do you know that I would find out officially that you are not pregnant and ye
