OLIVIA JUNE

They stood tall near our table, hands shoved into their pockets. The one in the middle locked eyes with me, his perfect smile revealing a set of white teeth that seemed to glint maliciously.

'Damn it, Olivia, your boyfriend is sitting next to you for crying out loud.'

Their bodies were well-built and muscular. The girl on the left sneered. "Look at this. Look who we have here."

"It seems what we did to your young sister wasn't enough, huh?" the guy beside the middle one mocked.

I glanced at Jessica, raising an eyebrow. "Young sister?" I questioned, but Jessica remained silent, her gaze fixed downward, hands trembling.

"I think I found myself a new girlfriend, guys." The middle guy said, his stare boring deep into my soul.

My heart was racing.

The crew responded with a chorus of "Ohhh." as the students in the cafeteria fell mute, their eyes glued to us. It was clear; Lewis’s earlier remarks had made everyone's loyalties clear.

Suddenly, my boyfriend Jerry slammed our food down in anger and stood up, his face flushed. "Not a chance. She is my girlfriend."

I stood beside him, gripping his arm. "Damn right, I’m his girlfriend." I shot at the middle guy, smirking.

I noticed his eyebrows twitch with annoyance.

The girl among them then remarked. "Too bad; no one says no to Reuben Foster." She smirked at me.

"And too bad that I will be the first to say that to him." I replied, grinning at her. I grabbed Jessica and Jerry's arms, saying."I just lost my appetite. Let’s go."

As we attempted to leave, Reuben abruptly seized Jerry's collar and punched him. Jerry fell, allowing Reuben to climb on top of him and unleash a flurry of punches. His friends joined in, mercilessly stomping my boyfriend with their shoes.

Fury surged within me. I dashed to Reuben, pushing him off Jerry with all my strength. "What the heck, man?" I shouted, my voice laced with anger.

"I said your mine. Trust me, and if your boyfriend doesn’t understand what that means, this is just the beginning." Reuben responded, standing tall.

Jerry finally got to his feet, blood streaming down his face. I rushed to him, but he pushed me away before running out of the cafeteria.

What had I done now?

"Bloody hell." I muttered, flipping them off as I pulled Jessica out of the cafeteria.

I heard Reuben taunt. "Y'all are going to pay."

We headed straight to the guys’ dorms, but to my surprise, Jerry refused to open the door for me. I screamed his name in desperation, but the security guard took notice and informed me that I wasn’t allowed in that section.

I was left to make my way back to my dorm with Jessica, planning to grab my phone when, to my dismay, the three guys again loomed by my door, accompanied by several other students.

"WHAT DO YOU WANT HERE, IDIOTS?" I screamed at them, frustration spilling over.

Reuben smirked and replied, "Can’t I check on my girlfriend now?" He raised an eyebrow playfully and placed a hand theatrically over his heart. "Excuse my rudeness; I’m Reuben Foster. This one on the right is Vincent and on the left is Ryker." he said, his smile wide.

If he weren’t such a bully, I thought, ending my relationship with Jerry to date him wouldn’t be a difficult choice. With his thick eyebrows, long lashes, captivating green eyes, and a body that screamed confidence, Reuben was undeniably attractive.

But no, I wouldn't even dare to entertain thoughts of him in that way; he is nothing but trash and a bully.

"I don't care who—" Before I could finish my statement, his lips were on mine, soft and mint-scented. I heard the sound of cameras clicking and students exclaiming. "Wow."

I forcefully pushed him away, causing him to stumble back against the door with a thud. "What the heck, Reuben?"

Reuben began to caress my arms and said, "Come on..." But I wouldn't give him the satisfaction; I swatted his hands away.

"Get lost." I replied, not bothering to look back as I stormed into our bedroom and locked the dorm door behind me.

I noticed Jessica seemed ready to say something, but I silenced her with a gesture and threw myself onto my bed.

What a long, exhausting day. It didn’t take long for me to drift off to sleep.

The next morning, I was jolted awake by the incessant buzzing of my phone. When I checked it, I found a multitude of messages from the Oak Mountain School group chat, along with missed calls from my mother and Jerry, who I had seen the day before.

Realizing the time, I panicked; I had completely missed my alarm due to the notifications. I was almost late.

Another notification popped up, this time from Jerry, stating that he was coming to talk to me. I quickly rushed to the bathroom to go through my morning routine and get dressed.

I looked for Jessica but found her bed empty. The group chat messages continued to buzz, but I didn’t have time to check them all. I silenced my phone and headed out to meet Jerry.

To my surprise, he was waiting outside my dorm room. "Hey love, how are you feeling today?" I greeted him, hoping to see a smile. Damn, they did a great job on him.

"Don't you dare coddle me after what you did." he snapped harshly.

What was he talking about? What did I do this time? He took my hand, and we walked into the forest area.

"Please tell me what you mean." I urged as he continued forward, ignoring my question.

He halted near a tall tree and released my hand. "I understand you were upset about what happened yesterday in the cafeteria, but why take it out on me?" I pressed.

"You know exactly why, Olivia." He raised his voice, and seeing my confused expression, he added. "Because you kissed Reuben in front of everyone, and from the looks of it, you enjoyed it, eyes closed and all."

I stood there, dumbfounded, Reuben's words replaying in my mind. "You all are going to pay." Was this what he had meant?.

I grasped Jerry's hand and insisted."He forced that kiss! You know I would never do that to you. Why would I kiss someone who has done something so terrible to you?"

He yanked his hand away and glared at me with disgust. "Don’t touch me. I saw how you looked at him, and because of you, I look like a imbecile."

Tears streamed down my cheeks as I stared at him, crushed that my boyfriend would believe a stranger over me.

I turned to walk away but paused to say. "As much as I try to explain that he forced that kiss and you refuse to believe me, I’m done, Jerry. We’re finished." I stormed out of the forest area, sobbing.
