The cool night air carried the scent of pine and damp earth, wrapping the estate in a quiet stillness. Beyond the main gathering area, where the pack had been discussing our next steps, I found him. The wooden back porch, slightly secluded and enclosed by a rustic fence, provided just enough privacy for hushed conversations.

Seth leaned against the railing, his broad shoulders relaxed in a way that seemed too casual for the tension crackling in the air. Opposite him stood Vee, her arms crossed as if bracing for an argument.

I stepped onto the porch, my boots making a dull thud against the worn wooden planks. "Hey," I greeted, my voice cutting through the thick silence.

Both Seth and Vee turned to face me, their expressions guarded, wary. A strange stiffness hung between us, an unspoken understanding that whatever conversation they’d been having wasn’t meant for my ears.

I shoved my hands into my pockets, tilting my head slightly. "What are you two doing out here?"

Their responses were

AVABlake poked his head around the door, his familiar smirk easing some of the tension in my chest. “You got everything, sis?”I exhaled, glancing at the half-packed bag on my bed. “I think so? Honestly, I’ve never packed before. Never left here. I don’t even know what’s necessary to bring.” I ran my fingers over the worn fabric of a sweater I’d barely worn. How did you prepare for a journey when you didn’t even know what you’d be at the end of it?Blake stepped inside, his towering frame casting a shadow over my bag. “Want me to grab anything else from home?” His voice was light, but I could hear the unspoken weight in his words. Was it even home anymore? Was anything still the same?I shook my head. “No. This’ll do.” Zipping up my bag, I hesitated before asking, “What’s happening downstairs?”I had heard raised voices earlier—voices I knew all too well. I had stayed upstairs, unwilling to walk into the storm brewing between Derek and Seth.Blake leaned against the doorframe. “Your

DEREK The road stretched endlessly before us, a winding ribbon of asphalt cutting through dense forests and rolling hills. I kept my eyes locked on the car ahead, where Seth, Vee, and Adrian led the way. The journey had been mostly silent, the air in the vehicle heavy with unspoken thoughts. Beside me, Ava sat motionless, her gaze lost in the blur of passing trees outside the window.I stole a glance at her, noting the stiffness in her shoulders and the way her fingers absentmindedly twisted the fabric of her shirt. Her father and brother showing up earlier had clearly shaken her. I shifted my focus back to the road, but a quick glance in the rearview mirror caught Kara’s wide-eyed expression as she took in the world beyond the pack lands. Unlike the rest of us , she had never ventured far from home— Dad had always insisted on keeping her protected, fearing enemy packs might use her against him.My gaze met Blake’s in the reflection. Blake’s expression was serious, and he subtly nodd

The drive led us along winding coastal roads, where towering cliffs plunged into the restless waves below. The scent of salt and damp earth drifted in through the cracked windows, mingling with the crisp ocean breeze. The sun was beginning its descent, casting long golden rays over the rolling waves that shimmered like liquid fire. When we finally arrived, I recognized the place instantly. I had been to this town once before when we collected supplies from a nearby lumberyard, but this time, we had come to a far more secluded spot. Seth had driven us to a hidden cove, where the rocky shore stretched out into the sea like an open embrace.Beyond the surf, a large vessel rocked gently with the tide, it's dark hull cutting a stark silhouette against the horizon. Closer to the shore, two sleek speedboats bobbed up and down, their hulls gleaming as they caught the last golden light of the setting sun.We left the vehicles behind in what looked like an abandoned barn, its wooden walls weath

AVA The roar of the speedboats echoed across the vast ocean as we skimmed across the waves toward the larger vessel ahead. The sea spray cooled my skin, but it did nothing to settle the unease in my chest. Celeste’s gaze remained fixed on Derek, her interest in him blatantly obvious. Her own mate wasn’t pleased. A low, warning growl rumbled from his chest, a clear show of disapproval, but she seemed to enjoy provoking him. It was as if his possessiveness only amused her. Derek, however, paid her no attention. His focus was locked on the horizon, where the deep blue waters stretched endlessly beneath the afternoon sky. Seth, handling our boat with practiced ease, said nothing, while Vee piloted the second speedboat nearby. Why would the council align themselves with someone like Celeste? She exuded arrogance, a self-assuredness that felt more like entitlement. If I were to be blunt, she was insufferable. The journey between boats barely lasted five minutes before we reached the toweri

"Pleasure to meet you too."The introductions were a whirlwind, hands clasping mine, warm embraces pulling me close. Yet, something felt different. One by one, we were passed from one set of arms to another, each person pressing their warmth against us in silent greeting. People held onto me longer than the others, their grips lingering as if searching for something unseen. I wasn’t sure why until she approached me.A petite woman stepped forward. Her raven-black hair cascaded down her back, the soft waves shimmering under the golden sunlight that streamed through the trees. Emerald-green eyes—vivid against her sun-kissed olive skin—locked onto mine with an intensity that made my breath hitch. They shimmered—alive, electric—set against the rich olive of her skin. Her smile was soft yet knowing, as if she already understood parts of me that I had yet to unravel. A gentle smile curved her lips. "I can feel her inside you." Her voice was soft yet brimming with emotion. "You have no idea w

DEREK"I can’t shake the feeling that she thinks I don’t want her—but I do. For years, I longed for my mate, praying endlessly and shedding tears each time another year passed without my first shift. Being a late bloomer terrified me. There was a time I truly believed I wouldn’t be granted a mate at all. So when it finally happened, I was beyond thrilled. But then, disappointment followed just as quickly. I had expected her to be strong, powerful… but instead, she was weak.I suppose that wasn’t the best way to start our bond—her choosing me, only for me to feel let down by what I had become. And then, learning everything that came with it? It was overwhelming. Maybe that’s why I’ve been distant toward her. But she wants me to understand her, to ask about her past, to listen to her stories.“And yet, Derek… something doesn’t sit right. Seth claimed she became obsessed with power and left on her own, but I don’t feel that from her. She told me she used to come here often to meditate an

His expression faltered slightly."She never took me there," he admitted, disappointment creeping into his voice. "She valued her solitude when she went to that spot." His eyes drifted toward Derek, who was seated across the fire. I had chosen to sit next to Seth, eager to get to the heart of things. My earlier conversation with her had only fueled my curiosity. What was she planning? Why did she feel as though she had changed so much?"Maybe she was just caught up in the excitement of being back," I suggested, trying to console him. DEREK Sleep refused to come to me. This place was undeniably stunning, almost mesmerizing, but something felt... off. A darkness lurked beneath all the beauty, like a carefully placed disguise. It unsettled me. Maybe it was the sheer distance from my pack that made me uneasy. I couldn’t sense them, couldn’t reach into their thoughts if I wanted to. The only familiar presence I could pick up was Adrian, but I chose to tune him out. As for Blake, he was completely silent—probably fast asleep.Shifting upright, I leaned against the headboard, my gaze falling on Ava as she stirred slightly but remained asleep. A small smile tugged at my lips as I watched her, peaceful and serene. Then, my attention drifted to the window, where the low-hanging moon cast a silvery glow across the room.Beyond it, the silhouette of the towering trees stretched across the mountains in the distance. The sight was tranquil—but not for me. I had only been here for a few hours, and though Nimue and Ava had made

SETHVee had told me it took four days to recover from the spell of the warlock princesses. Even with her extensive experience in magic, she had never seen that kind of power used on anyone before. It made me wonder how they had actually managed to cast the spell on me. We were constantly on the run, rarely staying in one place for too long. Could it be that they had infiltrated my dreams or manipulated me when we consulted that witch? As my mind wandered through the possibilities, thoughts of Nimue began to creep in. Nimue was my heart's robber, stealing my affections with her mysterious and alluring presence. I couldn't help but think about her.As I walked through the forest, the crunch of leaves beneath my feet echoed through the silence. The sun cast dappled shadows on the ground, a stark contrast to the turmoil brewing inside me. I felt like my insides had been crushed, like the weight of the world was bearing down on me. Nimue, the woman I had followed and worshiped, had been t

AVAWe stood in the bright sunlight, the sound of birds chirping and leaves rustling in the gentle breeze filling the air. The communal area was bustling with people, the smell of freshly cooked food wafting from the kitchen. "It's gone," I said, looking down at my hand where Seth had grasped mine just moments before. But now, I feel nothing. Looking up at Derek, I felt confused. "What do you mean, what's gone?" Derek asked through our link, his eyes narrowing slightly."The connection, I don't feel anything. No buzz, no nothing," I replied, shaking my head. Derek looked at Seth, who was standing off to the side, his expression strange. The Seth I had left just days before was a devastating mess, but today he almost looked robotic."How can it just go?" Derek asked, his voice low and serious, as Vee chattered on in the background. "I don't know," I said, feeling confused. I had to admit, it was a relief that the connection was gone, but still, it was a bit weird.Just then, Adrian bur

AVA Derek's fingers on my chin sent shivers down my spine, his eyes burning with an intensity that felt like it was scorching my very soul. He looked like a man who had been denied for a very long time, his wicked smirk promising me that this was not going to be a slow, easy ride. I didn't want it to be.If we were right – and Nimue believed we were – Seth wasn't our fated mate, neither of ours. Was Derek actually Nimue . Maybe he was, and this spell was just holding her back from feeling it like I did. Hopefully, I wanted her to feel this for herself, not just through me. Because it was a rush, a complete and utter cycle of hormones, nerves, and love.We had both chosen him. That had to mean something to her, right? The fact she was mated, but still chose another. Her reasoning was unselfish; she wanted me to have my shot at happiness. But maybe, somewhere deep down, she knew this was it – he was ours, and that's what made this decision easy for her.Who knows? All I could think abo

DEREK Ava had been missing all day and night, and I was getting anxious. But I had promised to trust her, so I kept searching for our bond, checking in constantly. Every time I did, she seemed okay, sometimes a little sad, but not scared or in danger.I met up with Shirer and asked her to check in on Ava. The image she conjured up showed wolves sleeping in the sun and moonlight. But even that peaceful scene sparked jealousy in me.I decided to give Ava some space and went back to studying the ancient mythology books I'd taken from Seth's house. I found them fascinating, and they helped from being jealous. But as I delved deeper into the books, I started to feel uneasy. Our bond was faltering, and I sensed Ava was scared. I called out to her, and when she responded, I knew she was in danger.I quickly gathered the others – Adrian, Vee, Shirer, and Blake. We needed to find Ava, and fast. Thanks to Shirer's location spell, we were able to track Ava down, but it took some time. When we

AVA Seth had proposed that we unleash our wolves for a run. To be honest, I wasn't enthusiastic about the idea. I feared that Nimue and Seth's wolf would get overly excited and we'd end up mating. However, Nimue was on her best behavior around him, exhibiting only playful nips and cuddling when they rested. As I observed their connection, I sensed an unusual bond between them. It was peculiar. I felt the same intense emotions I experienced when I was around Derek, but without the fierce passion.I really needed to discuss this with Seth and gain a deeper understanding. However, communicating with him in my wolf form was challenging."Nimue," I called out to her."Yes?" she responded."Why doesn't your mating bond with Seth feel the same as my bond with Derek?" I asked."This is how I've always known our mating to be - comfortable, calm, and dependable," she explained. That didn't sound like any mating bond I'd ever heard of. But then again, maybe we all couldn't be the same. Their bo

DEREK I trailed behind Seth, my mind reeling with the news Joshua had just shared. I needed to speak with my dad, to ensure everything was okay back home. As we walked, the sound of seagulls filled the air, and the salty scent of the ocean wafted through the village.Seth led me to his house, a cozy little cottage with a thatched roof and a garden full of vibrant flowers. He pushed open the door, revealing a warm and inviting interior. "Your dad found this old-fashioned way of communicating amusing," Seth explained, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "But it's effective. He's on frequency 45."He gestured to an ancient-looking machine in the corner of the room. I raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "What the hell is that?" I asked, my curiosity getting the better of me.Seth chuckled. "A radio transceiver. We use it to keep in touch with the council and the boat. Usually, we rely on magical messages, but since your pack doesn't have a witch, this is our backup plan."I nodded, taking in th

AVA As the boat carrying Joshua, Andrea and Celeste pulled back onto the shore, my stomach was in my throat. Celeste's presence was especially unnerving, given her history with our group. She had obviously gone to do the same to them as they had to us. Her eyes locked onto mine, and I sensed a mixture of curiosity and calculation behind her gaze.Derek's voice whispered in my ear, "Why are you nervous?" I turned to face him, my eyes meeting his concerned expression. Blake was standing at my side, his eyes fixed on Celeste's retreating form.I took a deep breath, trying to process the turmoil brewing inside me. "He's been back home while the fallout of me coming out to everyone was going down. We came here when we had made it, so we didn't see it. The last thing I saw when we left there was my dad apologizing for my mother, but where was she? I have a feeling he's here for a reason. Why would he just want to get up and come here? I guess I am just looking at it that maybe he's here to

DEREK As I gazed into Shira's eyes, I couldn't shake off the feeling that something was off. Her lips, though soft and inviting, didn't stir the same passion as Ava's. The hands on my shoulders, though gentle, didn't hold the same warmth as Ava's touch. I was about to pull away, to put an end to this charade, when it hit me like a ton of bricks. I had no qualms about jumping into the deadly pool, but the thought of continuing this farce with Shira made my skin crawl. But I knew I had to see this through. I had to trust the pool's magic, even if it meant enduring this uncomfortable encounter. As Shira's lips moved against mine, I felt a sudden surge of visions and images, like a movie playing out in my mind. I saw Ava, her eyes sparkling with determination, her spirit unbroken. I saw the events of the day unfolding, like puzzle pieces clicking into place. When the visions finally subsided, I ripped my lips away from Shira's, gasping for air. I stared into the pool's crystal clear wate

The moon cast its silvery glow over the tranquil landscape as I stood before Shirer, her eyes piercing through the darkness. "Are you truly prepared to take this risk?" she asked, her voice low and mysterious, echoing through the stillness.I had burst into her house, the wooden door creaking shut behind me, and Shirer hadn't flinched. Instead, she listened intently, her expression unreadable, as I paced back and forth, my footsteps echoing off the stone walls. The air was thick with tension, and Shirer's question hung in the balance, waiting to be answered. Was I willing to risk everything by revealing the truth to Derek? The weight of my decision settled heavy on my shoulders. That's what I had been ranting about – how Nimue's mistakes had put everyone in danger, leaving a trail of secrets and lies in their wake. The trees outside seemed to lean in, their branches tangling together like skeletal fingers, as if listening to my inner turmoil.Derek's words echoed in my mind, his voice
