Aria's POV

The alarm had been upped to level two, which caused Papa George to become anxious. It was nearly eight o'clock at night, and neither of us had eaten. Mama Sally sat at the kitchen counter while Papa George sat restlessly on the chair near the front door.

The province is calm; the only unfavorable one is that there have been incidents where wild bears have come down and eaten animals, which most people here dread.

"What creature could there be in the woods that Alfredo had raised the alarm?"

I knew precisely what was hiding in the woods but couldn't bring myself to say anything. They have no idea what I am. They'd be surprised if I told them it was a werewolf.

I can't risk everything — not now—not when everything feels like an ideal to me. This newfound family had been a treasure to me being abandoned by them would equate to the hurt I felt when my parents died. I couldn't afford to lose them.

"I have no idea, Sally."
