DERRICK’S POV

I walked into the chamber in calculated steps, my mind reading the surroundings trying to figure out if I had been compromised. But how could I be? I made sure I left no traces, no trail! Beta Damon had been held accountable for Randy's death so, I had nothing to fear.

I took a seat at the edge of the table and slightly adjusted my collar, careful not to expose the spot Randy had ripped open while he struggled for his life. I watched as Jake took his seat at the head of the table; a spot I have coveted all my life. A spot I could kill for.

Braun’s hatred for Alpha Jake was the perfect way to get through with my plan. No one would be able to trace it back to me. But with Randy’s capture, I had to do something before he spilled the bean.

I glanced at the faces of other members for clues as to why this meeting was called but they were blank, confused, and curious as I was.

“I want to thank you all for making it here. I apologize for the short notice,” Jake began. “There has

LYRA'S POV I watched the crows feed on Derrick's lifeless body as it swayed in the wind at the Death Arena; a spot where executions were carried out for everyone to see. The rope around his neck dug deep into his neck. His face was frozen in an expression of shock as if death had taken him by surprise in its final, merciless grip. I should be happy I guess. Derrick had always opposed my stay in this pack, he questioned my capabilities to rule as Luna. I would have sworn he wanted my place as luna. However, my heart ached at the sight of him hanging like a piece of meat. This wasn't right. As much as it was meant to send a message across to anyone who would think of betraying the pack, there were other ways to do that other than this.“You're too soft Lyra!” Tara tore through my thoughts. “You must make a statement as a leader for your subjects to fear and respect you. Wait till our minds get to sync properly, I'd change a lot in you.” She scoffed.“I wish I could disown you right n

JAKE'S POVThere was silence in the room as the unknown figure walked in. All eyes fell on him. Who could that be? I thought and why would the guards let him in without informing me first? I think they no longer cherish their jobs. I moved closer to make out what or who he was but he wore a ninja mask across his face.“One more step and you wouldn’t use those legs anymore,” I thundered. He uttered no word, making me more nervous. Who is this with so much audacity walking into my house like he owned it?He halted and slowly reached for the mask across his face. I instinctively held the edge of my silver-coated dagger just in case he made a threatening move. “What?” My expression darkened as he pulled off the mask across his face. “Braun! How dare you?” My fingers folded into a fist causing my vision to blur with anger. I moved before I could think. Lucio growled in my head, and in a split second, I was already on him. The first punch landed on his nose causing blood to trickle from hi

LYRA’S POVWhat just happened? Who was that and why would Jake be so furious at him? My mind reeled with some many questions as I stood there trying to process what just happened while staring at what was once a beautiful scene now in total disarray; shattered wine glasses, chairs flipped over, and the well-decorated cake now a smear all over the floor.“Maids!” Queen mother Tessa called out. I watched as the maids scrambled, rushing towards the scene. “Get this mess cleaned up!” She ordered, her tone Sharp and commanding.“Yes ma’am!” They responded with a slight bow.As they scrambled to tidy up the scene, I walked away, headed for the only place I could find solace at this point; My room. I waltzed through the passage a bit disappointed. I had spent quite an amount of energy planning this moment and it ended up in ruins. I grunted in frustration. Why do things keep falling apart the moment I feel like we are headed somewhere? I didn’t know who the stranger was or why Jake was so f

LYRA’S POVThe vibration from his voice sent shivers down my spine. I thought he would still be up in his room. I wanted to be long gone before he'd realize. I stood still, my back still turned at him. Should I respond or should I just walk out on him? My thoughts clashed inside of me as I gripped hard on my luggage.“Where do you think you are going by this time of the night?” He asked again. At this point, I was not sure what his tone was. Was it Concern, Remorse, or Anger? I swallowed hard before slowly turning around, my eyes locked onto his. “Somewhere away from your sickening secrets!” I lashed out at him. I felt my stomach drop after that statement; I had stepped beyond the boundaries of words I could say to him. What was going to be his reaction? My body shivered yet I remained composed. He stood, speechless. I had expected him to say something, perhaps plead with me not to leave or at least explain to me why he was building a wall between us, but no word came forth. I turn

LYRA’S POV“What do you think about my outfit?” I asked Jake, halfway down the stairs grinning. My maid Abigail had selected a long, black flowing sequin dress that hugged my stature, for my outing with my mate. It glittered under the soft light from the chandelier. My makeover was light yet flawless and my hair wrapped up in a bun with free strands falling on either side of my face.Jake, who was adjusting his collar in front of the full-length mirror immediately caught a glimpse of my reflection in it. He immediately spun around in awe. His lips parted as if struggling to push out the right words to say. His well-tailored Black tuxedo perfectly hugged his body and his lustrous black hair was styled to perfection. How can I forget his eyes; they were one part of him that never ceased to charm me.“My goodness, Lyra,” Jake teased. His voice was barely audible, almost like a whisper.I felt butterflies in my tummy, my cheeks were red with blush as I tried to hide my smile but it foun

JAKE’S POVI woke up next to one of the most beautiful views any man would wish for. Lyra’s body curled up beside me, perfectly outlining her contours, her messy hair from last night slightly falling over her face. The morning light fell on her face, radiating her beauty. Her lips slightly parted, and her chest rising and falling in sync with her breathing as she lay peacefully, fast asleep. The scar on my chest had begun to tingle. A ticking time bomb wrapped around my soul. And with the full-blood moon fast approaching, I was running out of time. I wish she could understand why I’m distant from her. But how could she? I still haven't found the right words to explain to her. To make her understand the real reason isn't because of Alisha or out of hatred or dislike for her like she felt it was. “This is for your own safety, Lyra,” I whispered, slowly pushing off the strands of hair off her face, placing a kiss on her forehead. She grunted in her sleep rolling over to her other side

LYRA'S POV The first punch came fast, crashing into my ribs and knocking the air out of my lungs. I held my side, tripping backward, gasping, but Cloe didn’t give me a second to recover. She was tall and intimidating. Her hits came as quick as lightning. This time, it landed on my jaw, jolting my head to the side. I had felt my neck would snap. I staggered backward, hitting the floor, instinctively lifting my arm to protect my face from the next hit. “Damn!” I cursed under my breath. “You have to focus, Lyra. Focus!” I geared myself. I spat blood on the ground, slowly standing to my feet. The cheer from the crowd was deafening. Amidst the grinning face was Jake who sat at the podium. His eyes were locked on me while gripping tight on his seat, his expression hard. “Fight back, Lyra! Get the hell up! You've trained hard for this day.” I could hear his thoughts yelling at me through my mind link. Cloe stood right in front of me, flexing her muscles with a dark smirk on her fa

I muttered to myself, adjusting my sitting position. My neck hurt badly and my eyes felt heavy, slowly adjusting to the brightness of the room. I watched in silence as the nurse adjusted the infusion giving set before injecting a few more medications into the infusion. The continuous beeping of the heart monitor beside her filled the room. Each beep struck my heart. I could have done something to stop this. I shouldn't have pushed her that far. Cloe was no match for Lyra but how she managed to pin Cloe was something that still struck me.“How is she doing? How long would it take for her to regain consciousness?” I asked my voice, husky due to lack of sleep. The nurse looked up from Lyra’s medical records she held in her hand, her expression grim but professional.“I can't tell how long before she wakes up but she’s stable,” the nurse responded. “Though she suffered some inte

ALPHA JAKE'S POVThe blades of the helicopter swirled rapidly with a deafening roar above us as we stepped down with our heads slightly bowed. The whirlwind created by the blades caused our hair to fly wildly across our faces. Squinting to avoid particles raised by the wind into our eyes, we all hurried towards the escort vehicle waiting at the extraction point. Damon and I trailed behind the extraction team who led the way with Caspian Reed.“Was there any casualty?” I asked, taking off my bulletproof vest. My breath was ragged, the adrenaline rush slowly began to fade off. It was indeed a close call for us.Damon reconnected his comms, fitting the buds back into his ears. “Eagle team can you hear me?” He spoke into the telecom hoping to get a feedback. The feed crackled for a moment until a response came from the other end.“Sergeant Mike here, this is the eagle team! Everything looks good over here. The boys are good, no casualty, just minor grazes, over!” Sergeant Mike informed u

Our footsteps echoed softly through the tunnel as we moved with caution, careful not to draw attention.Lyra’s body hung limply over the guard’s shoulder. Her hands swayed from left to right as we walked down. My heart somehow bled at the sight of her in that state but, who cares? The voices in my head screamed for power.I turned my gaze to Aemond, who had been walking beside me in silence, his shoulders were square and unbothered, seemingly enthusiastic about the whole drama. As we drew closer, I felt my stomach twist. I bit hard on my teeth, tightening the muscles around my jaw. My fists remained clenched at my sides, so hard my knuckles turned pale.I had made my decision. Every moment I reminded myself: this was for the pack. For my legacy. I would never give away everything I fought so hard to gain on the altar of family ties. We finally arrived at the temple. The torches ignited along the corridor, trembling lik

JAKE’S POV“How on earth is that possible? Blood Moon Pack?” my stomach churned with anger. “How were they able to sneak in and out of Shadowclaw, kidnap Lyra, and walk away freely and no one noticed?” I thundered, my chest rose and fell as I fumed.“I wish I had an answer to that, Alpha Jake,” Dmon replied evenly. “I was out on a business trip when the incident occurred. There couldn’t have been a way I would have known or suspected any malicious act was brewing under our nose,” Damon explained in a curt tone.I wasn’t ready to listen to what Damon had to say. My senses were clouded, my blood boiling. How could Lyra be scooped up by a neighboring Pack like some trash can? “I want to know the chief guard in charge on that day! This is the height of incompetence and I would not condone such a level of carelessness,” I barked.I turned sharply, my gaze fixed on Damon. “I need a message sent to Alpha Leo, declaring war! JAKE’S POVThe lightning sent a bolt of charges across the sky followed by the roaring and loud drumming of the thunder as heavy rainfall splattered on the roof down to the floor. The streets were deserted, and only a few could be spotted running back to their homes. I stood on the balcony with a cup of hot coffee and milk covered with thick woolen robes and socks gazing far into the road. It’s been a week since I ordered surveillance to be mounted on Caspian Reed, yet till now, no tangible information has been collected about him- he was indeed a ghost, or possibly a chameleon, perfectly camouflaging and good at covering his tracks. I had hoped he could lead my men to find out who this Lyra was, but so far, it only led to dead ends.“It’s a cold night, Your Grace. Wouldn’t it be rather comfortable and more relaxing being in each other's arms other than standing out here alone, staring into the dead, cold night?” Ella asked, sneaking up on me from behind with a soft seductive tone. LYRA'S POV"Get her!!"Leo's loud voice cut through like thunder, sharp and commanding, distorting the peace of the moment. Something about him was entirely different. I didn’t have the time to decipher what was going on as my body reacted before my brain could catch up. My legs immediately wheeled into motion driving me straight into the forest path.I ran so fast like my life depended on it. Dry branches stung my face and arms like a long whip, piercing my skin through my clothes as I raced through the thick forest. My lungs ached as I sprinted, pushing through the obstacles. The pounding of my heart and the quick loud gasps of air deafened my ears. They were louder than the snarls of guards chasing after me from behind. The guards were close. Too close. I looked over my shoulder, observing how close they were when my foot caught on a root. My hands flew up to brace myself, but it was too late. I stumbled, rolling over into a nearby ditch, till I got stopped by a huge root. I gro

LEO’S POVI stood in front of the mirror checking out my abs after an intense two-hour session of cardio and muscle toning exercises. Beads of sweat ran down my temples, dripping from my chin and from my neck lining the contours of my abs and disappearing into the waistline of my thick pants. I wiped at it absently with the back of my hand, only for more ripples to form from my pores. I pulled down my singlet which stuck to my body, soaked with sweat from the intense session I just finished. My muscles ached, throbbing from the weight lifts, yet I embraced the discomfort. The pain and weariness served as reminders I was still in control—of my body and choices.I reached for the towel on the side table and dragged it across my face and neck, then snatched up the bottle of energy drink, gulping it down in three swallows. The citrus sting hit the back of my throat and I exhaled, wiping my mouth with my forearm. That’s when the door creaked open.“Your Grace.” Aemond’s voice sliced thr

I held tighter on the phone, my heart pounding in my chest as I stared at the name glowing on the screen like some twisted joke.I batted my eyelid once, twice and the third time hoping my senses were playing tricks on me but It didn’t go away. Every fibre in me pulled hard inside me urging me to minimize and find out who this Lyra is.The name has haunted my every breath, every waking hour since the day she vanished. The silence in the room was heavy, but not nearly as heavy as the storm brewing inside me. Damon stood at a distance, tense, his jaw set like stone."How the hell did you lose her? She was right there, all you had to do was, walk in and find her!" I spat, my voice sharp and cracking with frustration.Damon didn’t flinch. He rarely did. But I saw the flicker of regret in his eyes.
