"Well, I guess everything went as expected." Platinum said.Platinum, Matthew, Raisya, Chloe, and the chimaeras were gathered in the courtyard of Platinum's cave atop the Alpen Mountain. The wind whistled softly in their ears, bringing a cold breeze with it.None of them really felt the cold as they were used to it by now, except for Chloe who still wore thick clothing. Platinum, Raisya, and Matthew were sitting at the square table while the chimaeras stood behind Matthew, and Chloe, behind Platinum. On the table was a newspaper with the trending topic on the frontpage; “ONCE A CRIMINAL NOW AN EMPEROR?”“It’s been one day and this is all that everyone has been talking about.” Matthew said, surprised by how hot the topic was.“A new Dragon Emperor is always big news. It’s not weird at all.” Platinum spoke from experience. “Now that it’s official, your name is at least cleared from the countries that approve you. Namely the Dwarven and Elven Kingdoms. We’ll have to wait for a response f
After paying his debt to Salj that was overdue for a while now, Matthew was making his way toward Cecilia's mansion which would've been several hours away from where it was if he rode a carriage. Lucky for Matthew, his running speed was much faster and his stamina was abnormal as well.It still took about an hour because he got lost, but he did arrive earlier to the front gate of the mansion. It was already noon when he got there. He checked his surroundings from atop a roof and tried to identify who was guarding the gate. Two knights who had the Crystal family’s emblem on their chest. Matthew didn’t recognise them so they were probably new.Matthew crouched down. Guinevere had already guaranteed his safety from knights and soldiers, but he didn’t want to create trouble for Cecilia.“Well, I guess as their master, Cecilia telling them would be the easiest solution.” Matthew said to himself and decided to simply confront them head on.…One of the knights spotted Matthew approaching. Matthew landed on the grassy backyard of the mansion that was wide open. His eyes were trained on his attacker. Matthew had identified her as a woman judging from her outward appearance even if she completely covered her face with a dark green cloth. Her clothes were tattered and dirty. She probably just returned from somewhere outside of the city.Actually, Matthew knew exactly who she was simply by her astral signature. The attacker got on her feet and quickly drew three arrows and released them at Matthew. Matthew easily deflected all the arrows with his scaly right arm. The attacker fired another arrow, one enchanted with magic. The arrow landed on Matthew’s feet and created a smoke screen. Being enveloped by smoke, Matthew’s vision was completely blocked. Even so, Matthew knew where the attacker was. Or rather, were. He detected multiple signatures from different directions.“This trick again.” Matthew was calm as he still knew exactly which ones were clones and which one was rea
After meeting with a couple of old friends, Matthew was off on his own again. The place he was headed was also a noble’s mansion, though he had never been there. The only clue he was given was only that it was a noble in the East Omni City, the Whitegate territory. Not that he knows where to find it, and he was not very happy to meet the person who sent the invitation either.“How the hell did she send me an invite so quickly? The announcement was only yesterday.”:Unless she already knew some time ago and only now decided to invite you: Draco said."That's the only explanation I have for now too. After what happened last time, I'm not sure if I can trust her.":It's understandable. At least she has kept your whereabouts a secret, so she may not be an enemy:"Maybe. We'll find out soon enough."Maybe was walking normally while watching his surroundings, looking for the Whitegate's mansion. Matthew could just use [Astral Sense] to find her, but he didn't remember her signature. The eye
Matthew walked alone on the street in a bad mood. His back was slumped and his hands were in his pockets. He did not let out any malicious presence, but the air around him felt gloomy even to the common people.:I think you should calm down a bit, kid: Arshild said.“I’m not angry.”:Yeah, you’re not but you are clearly upset:“Hmm…”…“We have a lead on Rose.” Jack suddenly revealed it to Matthew.“What?”“You heard me right.”“Why are you telling me now? Why couldn’t you tell me all this time?!” Matthew got agitated. He accidentally released a burst of astra in his temper.“Well, I just found out yesterday too. Hence the letter. As for how I knew…” Jack did not finish his sentence.Matthew was waiting for Jack to continue but a second later, he figured it out. “Loki.”Jack just slowly nodded.Matthew was confused as paced around a few steps quickly. Then he jumped at Jack, grabbing him by his collar. “Where is she? Where is she?!” His eyes were blazing with fury.Matthew shook him q
Layla was running toward Matthew excitedly with her brother not too far behind."Layla?" Matthew was surprised to see her. Her shop was nowhere near here.Layla stopped just in front of Matthew. “Hiya! How’ve you been?” Layla cheerfully asked.Layla was Rain’s little sister. They both shared the same features, such as blonde hair, green eyes, and a slender body. Unlike Rain though, Layla was shorter but had longer hair than him that was not tied. She wore a green dress with a white short skirt that showed off her thighs and knee high socks.“You should’ve heard from your brother.” Matthew looked at Rain as he gave his answer.“That an A-Okay from you then! Did you grow taller too? Oh, you definitely are more muscular. So strong~ And you scales, so smooth~” Layla poked Matthew’s body and caressed his scaly arm.“Get off of him, you!”“Eh?!” Layla was grabbed from behind by the collar by Rain. “Let me go Rain!” Layla flailed about roughly but Rain was strong enough to not even flinch at
After finishing his meal at Kop’s Cafe, Matthew decided to head for the nearby Hunter station. He was still wearing his disguise when he went there. He arrived at the station. It was quite lively with all the Hunters there enjoying their night after a tiring day. None of them even noticed Matthew entering the station except for the receptionists. As soon as they spotted Matthew, they stood straight with their hands over their crotch with smiles on their faces. Matthew walked up to them to not keep them waiting.“Hello there! I’ve never seen you here before. Are you a new Hunter, or just new in the area?” The receptionist asked after a warm greeting. She was a wolfwoman with brown fur.Matthew was neither and they had met before, but she didn’t know that. “In the area.”“Oh, I see. Well, how can I help you?”“Got any more quests?” Matthew asked even though he could see a bunch of them on the quest board.“You want to do a quest this late at night?”“Yeah. I don’t feel like sleeping. Ju
Following the map on the quest sheet, Matthew finally arrived at the dungeon’s entrance after an hour of searching. The entrance was not grand and seemed thousands of years old. Matthew had forgotten how exciting it was to explore a dungeon.“Well, let’s go in then.” Matthew said to himself. The stone slabs that made the dungeon were mossy and cracked. Cobwebs filled the ceilings while the floor was littered with dirt. Each side of the walls had an array of mysterious stones as a light source. Five people could fit in the hall, so it was quite easy to move in since Matthew came alone. From the first to the tenth floors, Matthew fought against hellhounds, kobolds, trolls, orcs, high orcs, ogres, demon slimes, lesser demons, giant scorpions, zombies, and skeletons. All the monsters were dealt with easily without Matthew having to use any power. His strength alone was enough to defeat them. From the eleventh to the twentieth floors, Matthew fought the same monsters as before, only that t
