Morning sunbeam crept through the drapes, which filtered the brightness of the sunlight, casting an ethereal gold on the bodies entwined in each other's arms. The warmth from the previous night clung on, reminding him of the love they shared-a passion that runs deep. Sabrina lay across Benedict's chest, her head rising and falling with the slow cadence of his breathing. His arms grasped her almost possessively as if even while asleep, he could not resist letting her go.

The world outside seemed to fade away—until the soft, insistent knocking at the bedroom door shattered their peaceful slumber.

"Mommy! Daddy!" Saben’s little voice called from the other side of the door. "Wake up! I’m hungry!"

Sabrina’s eyes widened as reality came crashing back. She gasped, her hands instinctively pulling the covers up to her chest.

Benedict groaned, tightening his hold around her. "Tell him to wait," he muttered drowsily. "I need at least five more minutes with you."

Sabrina slapped his arm gently. "

He nodded. "Back when everything was crazy, I used to come here sometimes to think. And all I could think of was you, making you mine in every possible way. I would see myself standing right here, waiting for you, when you were to walk down that aisle promising love for evermore."The girl's eyes welled with tears. He fished a small box out from his pocket, opened it and revealed the loveliest of gold bangles."I know we already have rings, but I wanted to give you something else - something that speaks of how much I love you every day."Sabrina brought her hand over her mouth. Emotion filled her. "Benedict… it is beautiful."He buckled it around her wrist. His lips landed softly inside her palm. "Just like you."The tears fell along her cheeks but were joyful - the tears of a woman who found everything she had ever dreamt. She flung her arms around his neck, holding him tight. "I love you so much."Benedict wound his arms about her, whispering softly into her hair. "And I'll spend th

It was a night of excitement in the big hall of the estate as the family and friends gathered for the rehearsal of the wedding. The chandeliers shone with good warmth to brighten up the room, and the elegant faces of all the ceremony participants were gleaming with anticipation.Sabrina shifted near the door, fidgeting with her earring. "Do we really have to do this walking practice? Come on, I've been walking for years now, she muttered to herself.Benedict laughed and wrapped an arm around her waist. "Love, it's not just walking. It's walking toward me, as my bride. Big difference."She rolled her eyes and still managed a smile. "You just want to find a reason to look at me.""Absolutely," he admitted without hesitation, smirking.Saben, their five-year-old son, bounced excitedly in front of them, clutching a small velvet pillow. "Mommy! Daddy! I’m the ring guy!"Teresa, the mother of Benedict, wore a lovely blue dress and leaned forward to smile at her grandson. "Ah, yes, little pr

Penelope burst out laughing. Tears flowed as she gushed, "I swear this will be the most entertaining wedding ever."The city lights twinkled like fallen stars and a cool breeze wrapped them like an embrace from the other side of existence. Here, on the balcony, the world was quiet. It seemed as if time slowed down just for them.Sabrina snuggled into the chest of Benedict, feeling his steady heartbeat beneath her cheek. "Not wedding time again already," she groaned.Benedict held her tighter in his embrace, his chin settled against her shoulder. "Scared?"No, not a bit of that. She knew exactly where she was and precisely what was expected of her.He turned her about, encasing her face in his palms, and his warm blue eyes searched hers. "You're everything I never knew I needed, Sabrina. And I promise, I'll spend the rest of my life making sure you never regret choosing me."Rivulets of tears welled up in her eyes, and her heart filled with love for this perfect man. It is an evening full of warmth, laughter, and soft humming thanks to love that hangs in thin air. There had been so many feelings bursting through during the rehearsal dinner, and now, as the entire event was already being washed over with evening's calmness, Sabrina stood outside in the cool air on the balcony gazing into the twinkling city lights.Drawing a deep breath while holding herself against the chilly breeze, tomorrow, only a little further down the road, she'll be walking down the aisle in front of all the people she loved, making a promise that would forever alter the course of her life.Soft steps echoed behind her. She did not notice before long that warm arms had crept around her waist. She smiled into Benedict's embrace."What is it?" he whispered, his chin resting against her shoulder.Just considering how surreal all of this is. How on earth did we wind up here?"Benedict laughed, pressing a kiss to her temple. "Well, if you ask Penelope, she'd say it all started wi

She hummed contentedly and rolled onto her belly to him. He ran his hand down her back slowly, keeping time with the happy noises she was making. He let his hand slide farther down, along the curve of her firm, soft butt, down the backside of her thighs, and back up. Then back down again, small of her back, her butt cheek, down, down, his fingertips teasingly near her vulva; a quiet moan slipped out of her and she canted her ass into his hand, urging his fingers to go further. His chest deepened the breaths in his lungs and his pulse jumped. He lightly brushed his fingers over her bottom lips and retracted his hand, tracing across her butt cheek up her spine, caressing her neck then wandered to the side of her body over top of the lump of boob pushing out under the material. Her head turned toward him, and she looked up into his eyes, certainly more awake now than before. He gave her a hint of a smile, too exhausted and horny for more. "You wanted me on my back." It was a statement.T

The cold wind screamed through the cemetery, scattering the dead leaves across the floor. The moon threw a faint shine over the headstones and pointed out one specifically—Clara Hemp.Morales stood in front of it, fists clenched in his hands. It had long been since the rain stopped pouring, but moisture hung in the air, creeping through his pores and into his bone."Clara." He was hardly whispering. His throat constricted; his chest seemed heavy, but with the feeling, which he did not know how to explain, neither his mind could articulate. His sister. His wild, lunatic, fanatic sister. She loved Benedict Thompson too much—much that had finally driven her into madness. Committed crimes from which she might never recover; hurt people with whom she never had anything personal, because for her there should not have anyone else in a life from which Benedict had now vanished. And now, she was gone.Morales let out a bitter chuckle. "You were always stubborn. You never listened." His voice c

He stopped, the burden of his emotions crushing him down. "I thought—"He sucked in a deep breath and tried to ruffle his hair. "I don't know what I thought."Sabrina looked at him for a moment, then motioned toward the house. "Come inside."Morales frowned. "Why would I?""Because standing outside in the dark like a villain from a soap opera isn't helping anyone," she said dryly. "And because… I think you need closure."He laughed, a bitter sound. "Closure? My sister is dead, Sabrina."Her eyes didn't blink. "I know. And I also know that holding onto this anger won't bring her back."Morales clenched his fists. He did not want to hear this. He wanted to hold onto the anger. Anger against the Thompsons, against Benedict, against the world that continued living and seemed to forget Clara was buried underground. But deep down… he knew she was right. The inside of the house was hot and cozy, but Morales was like a burglar.Teresa eyed him warily, Wendy remained composed but observant, an

Supposedly, on the night preceding the wedding was to be just a very formal and dignified affair. Nice dinner, little wine, fun with close family and friends—it was supposed to be all rather like Sabrina had always seen it.Forget one important fact. She's friends with Penelope. So nothing goes quite as planned.A Surprise to RememberThe suite was decked up with pink and gold balloons, twinkling fairy lights, and a huge banner reading Bride to Be across the door. Champagne, cupcakes, and party favors lay atop a table.Sabrina was suspicious.Everything seemed too… normal. Then the music changed.A deep bass vibrated through the room. The lights dimmed. And then—A man walked in.Not just any man.A muscular, oiled-up, practically shirtless man.Sabrina's jaw dropped. The dancer was wearing a black bow tie, tight dress pants, and absolutely nothing else. He had a confident smirk as he stalked toward her.“Oh. My. God.” Sabrina covered her mouth. “Penelope, what did you do?”Penelope,

Her fingers stroked the material. "Okay," she breathed. The boutique manager came back once more, and Eliana smiled, her voice more even now. "We'll take this one.""Good choice, Miss Thompson." The manager clicked her fingers together, obviously delighted. "We'll have it steamed and wrapped up to deliver this evening, or would you like to take it with you?"He rested against the door of the fitting room, arms crossed, suit perfect, tie razor-sharp—but jaw clenched, eyes contained, tracking her each movement in the mirror."You're staring," she said without raising her gaze."You knew you would."Eliana swung around reluctantly, glancing at him.The way he regarded her—it wasn't admiration. It was possession, and something in his eyes that bordered on restraint."Well?" she breathed. "Too much?"His gaze dropped to the V of the neckline, black, and up to her face."It's perfect," he said softly. "Perilously perfect."A silence. The whir of the boutique died under weight of air between

There was silence. Alexa was always too professional ever to say anything that wasn't absolutely imperative, but Eliana could almost feel the twitch of interest in the static."Oh, of course, ma'am. I'll alert Mr. Wolfe right away."The intercom clicked off.Eliana slowly breathing out through her nose, her fingers running along the top of the desk as if signing the lines of her own doubt. Why does the ring of his name feel like pulling on wire that had twisted hard against her ribcage?Damian Wolfe. Her shadow. Her bodyguard. The man whose lips whispered softly, and whose eyes whispered too loudly, leaving her quivering. It was not right—the way he gazed at her. The way he avoided gazing at her when he should have.As Nathaniel had been comfortable with the old version of her… Damian was comfortable with the woman she wasn't yet. With the one with burning rage, fear, and smoldering lust all twisted up in one.She sat back from her computer screen, attempting to escape in work, but he

She did not scroll to the top of her phone contact list. She did not have to. Damian Wolfe was the first on everyone else's list—just like Nathaniel Carter was. Two names. Two men. One choice she'd never been able to make.Until today. Her thumb was still hovering, her breathing even. One telephone call changed the direction of her life. Before she could get cold feet, she heard footsteps—heavy, slow, familiar. She turned.Damian stood in the doorway to her office. And something about the way he was looking at her—as if she were his shelter and his tempest—stole her breath."Eliana," he said softly. "I'm not going to press you. I swear. I just. I needed to confirm that you were okay.""I am not," Eliana said softly. "But I will be."He bobbed his head. "Good. Because I've watched you shatter and remade myself. I understand how strong you can be once you finally begin not to attempt to flee from yourself."There was something primal in his gaze, something smothered yet deeply well-wrou

Vincent smiled at her. "Does your security detail have a habit of crashing high-level meetings?"Noelle smiled to himself as he put away the tray."Men, take a five."Reluctance was there, but Vincent finally relented. "As you desire, bella."The others flowed out of the room, and he was left alone with her.Eliana stood in front of Damian, arms crossed, but her voice was filled with softness. "You didn't need to defend me like that."He leaned in over her. "I wasn't sticking up for you. I was reminding them who the hell you are.""I know who I am.""Then why are you allowing this world to destroy you just so you won't hurt?" His words cut her like glass."I'm not avoiding—You haven't even cried," Damian breathed, pulling another closer to her. "Not for the disaster Harper created. Not for Nathaniel. Not even for you."She pulled her face away. "If I do, I would not be able to stop."She waited. Then:"I'd defend you if you did."Her eyes were burning. She raised her face, and there

She hauled herself up, carefully brushing her matted hair out of her face, her heart slowed a bit now. More confident. Less frantic. Her gaze returned to the phone. No new messages. And for once, that didn't sting like abandonment. It felt like freedom. She stood, walked barefoot into the kitchen, and poured the forgotten tea down the drain. It had cooled. Like the version of herself who sat around waiting for someone else to pick her. That version had fallen silent now, too.A vibration on the counter startled her.Damian.Just his name. No note. Just a missed call. She gazed at it forever, then she murdered the screen's power. She wasn't ready—not for him, not yet. Perhaps never. She moved to the living room, attracted by the hum of the television behind her. Her brother's form glowed under the blue light, stretched out on the couch with a pillow over his face as if he hadn't intended to sleep but the rest of the world had otherwise."Saben?" she whispered. He groaned. The door closed gently, but to Eliana it was a gunshot. Her spine against the wood, she was frozen, her breathing barely more than a stillness. Her voice was still stuck in her throat, her heart bruising under the words she had said to Nathaniel-the words she had only recently realized for herself. "What have I done?" Eliana whispered into the silence, her voice faltering slightly. The Thompson estates did hulk over her in oppressive silence. The sort that did not forgive-it judged.Stumbling, she fell to the couch with her knees buckling under her. Her hand brushed against the thick cushion next to her, which Nathaniel would lean against for drawing her into himself and whisper, "You feel like home.""Then why do I feel so far from it now?" she whispered. Her phone flashed when she answered it. No messages. No missed calls. No apologies. No begging. No promises. Just her. Alone. With the wreckage of something she couldn't fix.She stared at Damian's name burning on her screen. Her t

Eliana resolved to speak with Nathaniel.Nathaniel's presidential suite door was too intimate. It repelled her. She’d memorized the weight of her hand knocking on it. The scent of his cedarwood cologne that always lingered in the hallway. The way her heart used to leap—used to believe—that she belonged here. But now, everything felt quieter. Not empty. Just. still. He opened the door after two knocks, like he’d been waiting. Like he knew.“Eliana.” His voice cracked the silence like thunder rolling in slow motion. “You’re here.”She nodded, catching her breath. He hadn't slept. Rumpled shirt, rolled-up sleeves. Hair ever so slightly too messy. Eyes ever so slightly too shattered. As if he'd been injured by her very indecision."May I enter?" she asked, knowing the response in advance. Nathaniel stepped aside. "You don't need permission."She entered as if it would be her last time ever pushing the door open.He stood there with arms crossed over chest, shoulder blade against the wall

The sun filtered a reluctant angle over Eliana's headboard blinds, tinting the floor in pale golden stripes as if someone was trying to make amends for a bitter, long-fought battle. She was lying on her side, the crescent moon charm still amazing her palm, her fingers clenched around it as if it might prevent her heart from breaking into fragments. But there was reality—that her heart was already broken. In more than one place.Tap. Light. Soothing."Enter," she breathed, already suspecting who it was.Sabrina entered, loose linen thrown over her, bearing a tray full of hot tea. She put it down on the floor without a word at all, eyes drinking in the broken pieces of her daughter's mind.Eliana sat up, legs tucked under her, hair wet from last night's rain. "May I ask you something?" she asked."Always," Sabrina replied, sitting on the bed, facing her."How did you know?" Eliana's voice broke. "How did you know Dad was the one? Was it easy?"Sabrina's eyes softened. "No. God, no. It w

The storm was over, but the earthy scent of the rain remained. Fragile mist curled from the window panes of Eliana's room; now the sun had to struggle to break free from the clouds, while everything around looked bathed in soft golden light. The world looked washed clean—fresh, mysterious, like a blank page with wet ink smeared at the edges.Eliana sat on the edge of her bed, the silver crescent pendant sitting quietly in her palm. She smoothed its curve with her thumb repeatedly, as though it would somehow open up a hidden answer to her if she pressed hard enough. The sketch Saben left lay beside her, and she’d stared at it until the ink seemed to blur and reshape itself. Damian on one side. Nathaniel on the other. And her—right in the middle, like a bridge being pulled at both ends. She hadn’t slept. Not really. Just drifted in and out of thoughts so loud they echoed inside her skull."You’re the shadow that never departed.""You were the light when I was shattering."Two truths. Tw
