The cold prison cell reminded her of how cruel the world was for the low-class people.
For months, she had begged Bruno to allow her to see their son, and today was no different. She sat in the visitors’ room, her heart beating fast as Bruno entered with his mother. “Bruno, please,” she began, her voice hinting with desperation. “Let me see him. I just want to hold my son. Or at least, let me hear his voice.” Before Bruno could respond, his mother interrupted, her voice sharp, as always. “Absolutely not. I won’t let you traumatize the poor boy. He’s better off without a criminal like you. He needs to focus on Zurich. You can speak with him after you have served your jail term.” She clenched her fists, her glare piercing through the duo. “You will regret this,” she mouthed, her voice low, but filled with fury. “Both of you will.” Margaret laughed mockingly, the sound echoing in the room. “Regret it? What can you possibly do from prison? You will rot here. That is where you belong. Let's just say you are serving the terms your wretched father should have, for owing me. Know your place, Alison.” "Mother, that's enough. Let's go," Bruno said, getting up. *** A week later, she received a heartbreaking news. The only one she had left; her mother had died in the hospital, unable to bear the shock of her daughter’s imprisonment. The news shattered her completely. Her world had collapsed in front of her, and she was unable to do anything, other than watch it be destroyed. “Why? Why did this happen to me?” Her cellmate tried to console her, but the more she tried to calm her down, the more Alison wept bitterly. Her brokenness turned into a fierce rage. “They did this to me,” she whispered, her voice shaking. “Bruno and his family. They killed my mother and took away my son. I will make them pay dearly. They will regret ever doing this to me.” Months turned into a year since she got into prison, and she endured all the suffering and taunting. Every night, she would curl up and cry silently. Her freedom was taken away from her, and there was little to nothing she could do. She had no one, now. No one visited her, and she was slowly accepting her fate. "Inmate 324, you have a visitor." Alison was surprised. It had been months and no one came to visit her. Initially, her mind drifted to Bruno, until she reached the visiting room. A middle-aged average woman was seated across the room, waiting for her. Alison took a seat directly opposite her. She could not recognize the woman, and therefore, her expression was cold. "Who are you and what do you want from me?" “I’m Megan,” the woman introduced herself. “I was a friend of your mother. She was a wonderful woman, and I'm sorry for your loss. I'm here to help you." “I owe her everything. Your mother saved my life,” Megan said. “I will do whatever it takes to get you out of here.” "How do you plan on doing that? I am in prison without any form of bail, so you can't say you will bail me out. I must serve my complete term." Megan passed her an assuring smile, "I exist to find a solution. I will get you out of here, soon. Trust me." For the first time since she got into jail, Alison felt a sense of hope within her. Unbeknownst to her, Margaret was determined to ensure she never left prison. She wanted her completely out of the way. She had paid an officer to get rid of her in a way that there would be no need for investigation. She had promised him a hefty sum for the job. One night, while she was sleeping, the officer approached her in the cell, calling her out. “You need to come with me,” he said lowly, grabbing her arm. Suspicion flared, but she did not resist. Rather, she carefully watched him, while walking by his side. In a secluded corner of the prison, the officer leaned in close and whispered, “They want you dead, but I’m not going to kill you. Not here, not like this.” Her heart raced, as he looked at him in surprise. He continued, “I have seen enough injustice in this place. I will help you escape, but you must pay me back in the future.” She did not hesitate. “Anything,” she promised. “Just get me out of here, please.” "Come closer," he said, and he began to whisper her escape plan, so as to look unsuspicious. The plan was dangerous, but of course, she was ready to take the risk. On one of the nights, when the prison’s security was at its lowest, the officer walked and smuggled her out of the yard after leaving her cell gate open for her to escape. When they finally reached the outer wall of the prison, she turned to the officer. "Thank you so much, Officer." She said, giving a short bow. "You are welcome. Just take a few steps forward, a car is waiting for you there," he told her. As she turned to leave, she paused and faced him. "If I may ask, who ordered you to kill me?" He hesitated a bit before answering, "Mrs. Margaret Francisco." "How do you plan to cover up for my escape?" She asked further. "Don't worry about that. Leave it to me." She nodded and walked away. As she got into the car, she realized it was Megan. "Thank you so much, for helping me. Without you, I would have been dead by now." Megan smiled, "I told you I've got this." As the car sped away, the prison faded like a wisp of smoke. Alison could not help but look back at how much time she had spent behind bars for a crime she did not commit. "I wanna ask, why would your mother-in-law pay to get you killed?" Megan asked as she took a left turn. Alison looked away, clenching her teeth. "I don't know, and I don't care about her reasons. All I care about right now is revenge." "I like the sound of that," Megan said with a chuckle, "but first, you need to establish yourself. You can't take them down at your lowest. You need either be at their level or above them." “This isn’t the end,” Alison whispered to herself. “It’s just the beginning.” "You've got me, okay? I will help you with whatever you need," Megan reassured. "Thank you, Megan." As they arrived at Megan's house, she stepped out, taking in a deep breath. She was finally free. “I’m coming back for you, Theo,” she vowed. “And for them. They will regret the day they tried to destroy me.”Four years had passed since she escaped the confines of the prison gates. With a strong desire for revenge, she fled to Germany. There, she rebuilt herself to become stronger and more powerful. Every time she thought to give up, she remembered how her son was taken away from her, her mother's death...Establishing her law firm had not been easy, but she proved herself by winning every case she handled and becoming the go-to lawyer for high-profile divorces and corporate disputes. Due to that, she became famous and known as the Queen of Justice. One evening, as she celebrated her latest win with her aunt, Megan, she finally made up her mind.“I’m ready to go back,” she said, her voice low.Megan set down her glass of wine, her eyes narrowing with concern. “Are you sure? You have built so much here. You’re safe, successful—”“It’s not enough,” she interrupted. “They took everything from me. My son. My mother. My dignity. I have waited long enough. It is time they pay for what they ha
Alison stopped in her tracks, looking back at Oscar. Her gaze on him was as though the answers lay written on his face."What’s in it for me?" she asked, "how do you plan to help me?""I can help you get your son back," Oscar had replied, his tone low, and desperate. "You just need to help me win this case. There is a lot more at stake than just the law. You could be the key, Ms. Harper. It's why you are the queen of justice."She had to get him back, no matter the cost. For all she knew, The Franciscos were not ready to hand over custody of her son to her, and now that she was fully established, she would use all means to get her son back."I understand your conflict. Here is my card, just in case you change your mind," he said, handing her a white card with his phone number and email address written on it.***After her encounter with Oscar, she had forgotten about his ordeal. Her focus was to get her son back; nothing else mattered.Just as she was thinking, her phone buzzed, and t
The moment she found out that Travis was the main client, she shook her head vigorously, already terminating the contract. She was not sure she could do this; having to see the same man that broke her heart...Out of anger and pain, she turned to leave, her heart thumping faster than usual, as the memories of their past together flowed in like a river.Just as she reached the door, he rushed forward and grabbed her arm, stopping her from leaving.“Alison, please,” he pleaded, his voice filled with desperation and frustration.“You can’t just walk away like this.”Alison pulled her arm away. She felt pain and anger towards him. He was someone she never wished to see, at least, not now. The pain of what he did in the past filled her heart and she felt disgusted by his sight. She just wanted to leave.“And why not? Do you think I’m just going to stay here and pretend like we are cool? You broke my heart, Travis. So, don't expect that I will help you."Travis ran a hand through his hair,
There was silence in the room as Travis furrowed his brows in confusion, wondering just what she was talking about."What letter are you talking about?" He asked, curious to know what she meant. She remained silent, shaking her head. "Of course, you don't know what I am talking about." He knew it was better not to probe further about the past. It would only worsen the situation now.All he needed to do was get her on his side and make her accept his offer. He needed her help so badly that he was ready to do anything to make her accept it.He sighed, "Can we just forget about that, please?" He said, even though he didn't know what 'that' was."Alison," he called out, "I know things have been... complicated between us. But I need your help on this one. You are the most competent lawyer I know."Alison didn't seem to be done with the conversation. Even though she wanted to forget it, somehow, a part of her wanted to have a conversation about it. "Travis, we have been down this road bef
Bruno stormed into the sitting room, throwing his suitcase to the other side. It fell on the tiled floor, causing a sound that shocked both his mother and his wife.He looked angry, as though something had happened. He began to pace the room, taking off his jacket, and loosening his tie.“Bruno! What is wrong? What has gotten into you?” His mother asked, her tone filled with annoyance from the sudden shock.“Alison,” he spat, heaving heavily. “She rejected my offer! She is working for Rodrigo Internationals now. Can you believe that?”“Alison?” Mrs. Francisco scoffed, rolling her eyes. “That girl? I have always said she was not good enough for you. Let her go. Why do you need her?"Bruno turned to his mother, who did not understand what he meant. “This is not about her! This is about the project, Mom. I needed her expertise, and she rejected it blatantly without even thinking about it. She is now working for my competitor; that scumbag!"Rachel cleared her throat, trying to fit into t
It was a beautiful morning. A good one, actually, after putting Bruno in his place last night.Of course, he needed her expertise for his project, but she was long gone, and she would never go back to her vomit. It was time to be the Chief Legal Officer of Rodrigo International.Although it belonged to her Ex-lover, whom she did not want to have anything to do with him, she would rather help him than help the Franciscos. They were not worth her attention at all.It was her first day at work, officially an employee in the company, even though she owned her brand. She wore a pair of black pants, a white long-sleeved shirt, and a black tie, coupled with black stiletto heels and a black handbag. It was giving off the badass lawyer vibe; Queen of Justice! She applied light makeup on her face and packed her up in a ponytail. As she arrived at the company, Oscar was around to welcome her.She could not blame the young man, he was only following orders from his boss."Welcome, Ms. Harper," he
“I am the CEO of this company,” he reminded her. “You are here to help me manage a crisis, not to let personal feelings cloud your judgment.”Alison retorted, refusing to let him win. “I am not letting personal feelings cloud anything. I’m trying to do my job. Stop trying to buy me with your kindness.”"Fine, then. Think whatever you want," he declared. As the words left his mouth, he saw her flinch, as if she was not expecting him to be this harsh. For a brief moment, he felt the urge to apologize for his harsh tone, but he pushed the urge away, reminding himself of the professional boundaries they had set. “Just remember,” he added, “We have a board meeting in an hour, and I expect you to be prepared.”With that, he turned and walked out, leaving Alison standing there, speechless. As he approached his office, Travis wondered what had really happened to her. She had changed so much. This was not the Alison he knew years ago. She was sweet, caring, and loving, full of brightness...
The board meeting was rescheduled, and they were all gathered again for the meeting. The tension in the air was no different from the previous one, except that it was heavier than before.“Mr. Rodrigo, the stock prices are stagnating,” one of the shareholders, Mr. Caldwell, mouthed, adjusting his glasses. “If this continues, we will be looking at a huge collapse. We need answers, and we need them now. What is going on? What are you doing about this?”Alison sat at the far end of the table, taking a glance at Travis. She had only recently become part of this case, but the stakes seemed extremely high. The accusations against him were baseless, and he needed to clear his name in order to regain the company's legacy and keep it going, or else it would affect not only him but the stakeholders who had invested in the company. She knew she needed to get evidence faster and she had just limited time to do so. If she did not act fast, she was certain that the company would be in total shamb
Alison smiled, feeling a sense of determination and purpose. She was going to take revenge on Bruno and his mother, even if she died trying. The rest of the day passed in a blur, and soon it was getting late and Alison knew that she had to get back to her apartment to prepare for work the following day.“I'd get going now, Aunt,” she said and got off the couch. “It was nice hanging out and thank you so much for hosting me.”“This is your home too, Ally,” Megan said with a soft smile. “Come over whenever you feel like.”“It was nice keeping you company, too Uncle Carlos,” she grinned and the man patted her hair fondly. “See you around kiddo.” He winked and Alison walked out with Aunt Megan, they both shared a hug before Alison got into her car, driving off.***As Alison settled into her apartment, and onto a couch, she couldn't help but feel extremely relaxed and a fresh sense of peace took over her insides. She went to freshen up,before returning back to the living room. She picke
Alison watched as Travis's expression changed, his eyes narrowing as he listened to the person on the other end of the line. She felt a pang of curiosity, wondering who it was and what they wanted. But Travis's conversation was brief, and he ended the call "I'll be right there.""I'm sorry," he said, turning to Alison. "I have to go. But I'll be back soon."Alison nodded, feeling a pang of disappointment. She had been hoping to spend more time with Travis, to do what? She wasn't sure, but she just wanted to be around him…***Alison pulled up at the driveway in Aunt Megan's house, feeling a sense of relief wash over her. She had been feeling quite uneasy after the encounter with Travis earlier, she didn't even bother waiting till he returned before she left. Her last case was a big one, and Aunt Megan and her husband played a major role in the success of its completion, she owed them a lot.As she stepped out of the car and walked towards the front door, she noticed something quite
After approximately ten hours of being shut, Alison's eyes fluttered open, and she was met with an unfamiliar ceiling…the last she remembered, her bedroom didn't have a chandelier light, neither was it painted all white, so where was she?She sat up with a start, looking around the room frantically. The room was elegantly decorated with white walls and dark wood furniture. But it was not her room and she was sure about that.Panic set in as she scrambled out of bed, her eyes scanning the room for something, anything, familiar. But there was nothing. No photos, no mementos, no clothes that she recognized. And then, her eyes landed on her clothes. Or rather, the clothes she was wearing. They were not hers. An involuntary scream escaped her throat as she realized that someone had changed her clothes while she was sleeping.Alison's mind was racing. What had happened the previous night? She had gone to dinner with Travis, and then...and then nothing. She couldn't remember anything.Wait…i
The soft glow of the restaurant's interior cast a warm light on Mrs. Francisco's face, but her expression was far from warm. Her bulgy eyes held a disgusted expression as she gazed at Alison and Travis, eating and joking about something. How dare Alison move on? The dimly lit room was filled with the sound of clinking glasses, thick smoke in the atmosphere and muted conversations. The Elite men were in Marco's mansion, seated around the classy table in his lounge. The blue disco bulbs illuminated their faces, revealing their worried expression. I mean it was not everyday your business partner gets into trouble and narrowly escapes at the cost of the multimillion dollar investment.Of course, the bakery was more than just a bakery, even the club was more than just a club, a lot of other activities used to go on around there, but now…“Honestly, I never envisaged losing the organization,” Marco whispered, taking a long drag from his cigarette.“Me neither,” Enzo mumbled, his hands clenching tightly against the cup he drank from."I still can't believe he won that case," Bruno growled, hitting his right palm against the table in frustrated annoyance. "That judge was blind, or maybe he was just paid off by Travis."Enzo, his expression calm and
"Honestly, I can't be more glad that you agreed," Travis said to Alison with a broad smile, as he ate slowly from the food before him. "Considering the fact that you were the same person emphasizing on professionalism"Alison's face reddened in embarrassment as she looked away. "This is different Travis, I mean we are only celebrating our victory right?""Goody two shoes," he mocked, "there is always an excuse.”Alison heard him, and, of course, she was not going to let that slide...she was a lawyer for a reason.Alison's eyes widened in amusement as she set down her fork, locking her gaze with Travis's. "Coming from the cold, jerky CEO huh?" She wriggled her eyebrows and returned her gaze back to her food innocently."Oh so now you're playing dirty, huh!" Travis laughed, his deep voice resounding through Alison's head and reminding her of old times."Hey..don't get it twisted alright? Ssomeone has got to keep you on your toes, Mr. CEO," Alison grinned. The banter continued, and unlik
CHAPTER 50"Based on the evidence presented, I find the defendant, Travis Rodrigo, not guilty of all charges," the Judge declared, his voice firm. The Judge's words echoed through the courtroom, as it fell dead silent .“I'll rise,” the judge said and stood to his feet, alongside everyone else in the courtroom, they bowed together too, before the judge headed back to his chamber.Travis let out a whoop of joy and swept Alison into a tight hug. Alison hugged him back, feeling a sense of elation and relief wash over her. She succeeded…once again she'd succeeded and won yet another case for her friend "We did it!" Travis exclaimed, his voice muffled against her shoulder.Alison laughed, feeling tears of joy prick at the corners of her eyes. "We sure did," she replied, her voice shaking with emotion. “I didn't think we could, honestly…Judge Thompson was a hard one.”When they finally broke apart, Alison's eyes widened in surprise as she took in the crowd of people gathered in the hallway
The day of the second trial had finally arrived, and Alison was feeling slightly nervous and confused. She had spent countless hours preparing and gathering evidence, Justice Thompson wasn't an easy one, and he seemed particularly interested in this case.Despite her preparation, Alison just couldn't shake off the feeling of uncertainty that lingered in the pit of her stomach. What if Judge Harold decided to upturn her evidence and rule against Travis?“You can do this, Alison,” she said to herself, staring at her reflection in the mirror, and just then, her aunt, Megan, showed up in her bedroom.Aunt Megan was the exact person she needed to see at that moment, there was just this aura that she carried around, that passed reassurance and peace of mind."Hey, sweetie," Megan waved, and walking fully into the room, she enveloped Alison in a warm hug. “I know this case means a lot to you…but how are you feeling?”Alison took a deep breath, not sure what to reply with. "Although I'm kind
