ALTHEA.
I arrived at my home and tried to go on with my routine, but I couldn’t seem to focus.
Everything reminded me of him.
I could see his muscles flexing and the way his jaw tightened, and even with his nose flaring and his eyes glaring at me, I found myself attracted to his physical features.
Something was definitely wrong with me.
For the rest of the day, I fought with myself not to think about him. At one point, I even screamed at the top of my lungs and let out energy from my body that had all my pans and pots dropped and clattered on the floor.
But I still couldn’t get him off my mind.
I finally gave up and let my desire for him take over. I drew my curtains close, even though I knew I was alone in this part of the mountain, and sat on my small couch.
I leaned my back against it and bent my knees, anchoring my feet on the sofa as I parted my legs and slipped my hand inside my dress and into my underpants.
I let go and pleasured myself with thoughts of the man I saw by the waterfall.
I didn’t even get his name, but it didn’t matter.
I let my mind wander, taking my desire to an ultimate high, enjoying the thought of his rough hands all over my body, pressing and caressing every part of me.
My toes curled, and just as I was about to explode, a knock was heard from my front door.
I peered through the window and found the same huge man standing outside my door. His one arm was a pile of cut wood.
I wanted to tell him to go away, but the desire in me took over, and I rushed to the door and opened it instead. “If you’re here to ask me to bring the woman you love back to life, you are wasting your time. I am not helping you.”
Instead of answering, I saw him sniffing the air before his lips twitched into a crooked smile. But it was gone in seconds. If he smelled something, he didn’t say anything about it, and I was grateful for that, as I felt my cheeks were already burning from embarrassment.
“I got you firewood. I saw you come out and take just a few from your shed, and when I checked it, there was nothing in there, so I looked for wood I could cut and chop.” He said
My eyes went to the wood before tilting up to look at his face. “Are you stalking me?”
“Can I settle this first?” He asked in an annoyed tone.
I should have told him to go away, but then again, my actions were different from my thoughts. I opened the door wide and let him in.
He entered and made his way to the fireplace. He dropped the wood on the floor beside it before crouching and tossing some in it, placing them strategically.
I was looking at his broad back until my eyes fell on his boots’ soles. They were full of mud, and they were already on my floor. Not that I wouldn’t be able to wipe it out with my magic, but as much as possible, I tried to do things manually if I could.
He turned around, and he must have seen the expression on my face because he frowned. “It’s just mud. It can be cleaned.”
“Did you hear me say anything?” I retorted at the animosity in his voice.
“Your face said it all.” He grunted before walking toward the door. “You’re welcome. Have a good night.”
Wow.
But instead of slamming the door in his face, I decided to be nice. “Do you want to eat? I think I have enough food for two. Although I’m not sure how much portion you are eating, I think whatever portion I have is enough to warm your stomach.” I said in one breath.
“How old are you?” He asked instead of answering.
“Eighteen.”
His shoulders slumped before he began walking away again.
My forehead creased, annoyed that he ignored my invitation after I did my best to be nice. I didn’t notice that I picked up one of my clogs and aimed it at him until it came flying and hit his head with a thud, making him growl before turning around slowly.
“What the fuck was that for?” He asked, almost roaring.
Instead of cowering, I decided to act bravely and tilt my head up, placing my hands on my hips. If he decided to attack me, there was a door between us. I could shut it and put an enchantment on my house so he couldn’t break it.
“I just invited you for dinner on a food I worked hard to cook, only for you to ignore it!”
“Isn’t that basically what you did to me? I ask you questions, and I never get a decent answer.” He snapped back.
“I don’t even know if I can trust you!”
"You don't seem to trust people easily, but you openly spread your legs and touch yourself without closing your windows so everyone can see you put on that fucking show!"
I gasped, horrified at his words.
“And then you invited me for dinner inside your home? So again, if I can’t be trusted, why are you inviting me inside your home?” In a few steps, he was already in front of me, towering over me. “Do you usually do that? Invite males inside your house even if you don’t fucking know anything about them!”
“I hate you!” I yelled at him as my eyes watered from his rudeness. I pushed him with full force, using my energy. His body flew again, and he landed on the ground outside of the house. I shut the door with my chants even before he could get up.
My hands curled into fists as my chest heaved. I didn’t know what to feel at the moment. I couldn’t understand myself.
The only emotions I was used to were happiness and loneliness, but this man was evoking emotions I was not familiar with: anger and frustration. And yet, I was lusting after him.
I was usually good with my emotions. I never had an outburst.
I bit my bottom lip and tried to steady my breathing, praying to the spirits to calm me down. I was counting numbers when I heard another knock on the door.
“What do you want?” I asked snappily.
“Is the food still available?” His voice was calmer.
“I threw it already!”
“How about water? I promise I won’t anger you again.”
I slowly loosened my tight fists, but I didn't move or answer him.
"I'm sorry. Those words were uncalled for." He added.
I knew I was being stupid because I opened the door.
“My name is Blade. What’s your name?” He said the moment he came into view.
“Althea…”
“I’m thirty years old. And I’m not lying when I say you’re my second chance mate. My wolf is furious at me right now for angering you, but I had no idea what to do with this bond…”
Of course, he wanted nothing to do with me. Didn’t he want his mate alive?
“My first mate died five years ago. You are my second chance mate, Althea. But maybe the Goddess made a mistake because you are too young for me.”
I could hear his words, but all I could think of was him saying I was too young for him. He didn’t want me.
Not that it mattered to me. I didn’t want him as well.
I closed the door in his face again, but slowly, not knowing what to say this time. But I could still feel his presence outside.
A minute or two passed by, and no one moved behind the door. I finally gave up and opened it, and I was right. He didn’t even move an inch from where he was standing.
Our eyes locked before he took one step forward, making our bodies touch.
His hand cupped my chin, tilting my head up while he leaned his face downward, making his warm breath fan against my skin.
“Althea…” His voice came out raspy, sending shivers down my spine and making my pussy tingle.
He was so close. Too close, I wanted to kiss him.
ALTHEA. He was so close. Too close, I wanted to kiss him. Something was really wrong with me. This pairing was impossible from the very beginning. He was too old for me. He has an impossible temper. He’s a werewolf. And he was still in love with his mate. My hands went to clutch his hand that was holding my chin, taking it off my face as I dropped my gaze away from him, breaking the magic between us. “The food will get cold if we keep it waiting,” I said in a soft voice. I didn’t want to fight him anymore. Having him too close was making me weak. This was not a good sign. He was making me vulnerable. “Right. Let’s eat. I’m famished.” The last two words came out as if he growled them lowly, and my traitorous core clenched at the sexiness of his voice. It was a struggle to stay still while sitting in front of him, but I survived dinner without snapping at him. And he gave me back the same courtesy. We were both civil, but I could tell he was as uncomfortable as I was. But at
ALTHEA. I woke up refreshed and a bit later than usual. I really had a good sleep, which I hadn't had for a while. Maybe because there was a good-looking man in my house. But then I remember what he did last night and how he wanted nothing to do with me. But instead of getting disappointed, I chose to have a good day today. So, I started preparing breakfast for both of us. It had been a long time since I cooked for someone, and last night, I couldn’t help being happy that he seemed to like the beef stew I made because he ate so much. Maybe he was too hungry, or it was really a good meal. I had no idea how he felt about the food, as he never told me anything, but nevertheless, I appreciated my food being enjoyed. I hummed and smiled, making small pans and pots dance around me as I put the finishing touches on the omelet and pancakes I made. I had a few eggs left, and I had to go on a half-day hike down to an old man who had poultry if I wanted more. I did try taking care of c
BLADE. The walk down from her cottage to the foot of the mountain where I left my jeep went smoothly as Althea was secured in my back. She asked to be put down after a few hours, but I ignored her until she fell asleep when the night fell. I didn’t stop to sleep, as I didn’t want to have nightmares when she was around me. She didn’t need to realize how messed up I was. Besides, I wanted to reach Stone’s territory soon. The years of training as an Alpha, as well as my everyday life in the wild as a mercenary, had prepared me for this moment. I was used to being awake for many days straight, so staying alert even at night was not a problem. I never got tired easily, but having someone on my back for many hours straight was something I hadn’t experienced before. Although this little fire had a small frame, she was heavy, but despite that, my body felt at ease carrying her instead of worrying that she might fall and break anything on her body. She was so little and so fucking cl
(Free Chapter)ALTHEA. The last two days went by so fast, and I felt like I was just floating, making sense of everything. I was picked up from my comfort zone and thrust into a world I knew but had never experienced yet. The wolves and their pack. All I knew was that I liked Lucy, the half-she-demon and half-she-wolf who needed my help. I promised to help her, but in return, I asked her to kill my grandmother, Patrea. She was trapped in the demon world for many decades. I did ask Lucy to kill her, even if I didn’t want to, because it was the only way she could be freed from that realm. My mother told me that Patrea sold her body to a demon king, thinking she was outsmarting him by not binding her soul to him. But she didn’t know the demon would take it literally and trap her body in that realm. And to make it worse, he did something to her so she wouldn’t age, and no one but him and his bloodline could kill her in the underworld. My grandmother wanted death, as she was tir
BLADE. The drive to Salenda was long and painful. Althea was quiet the whole time, and every time a sound erupted somewhere outside of my vehicle, her body would jolt. She was scared, but she was trying to put on a tough facade. I already wanted to regret taking her here. It was selfish of me to place her in danger when she was living comfortably in the red mountains and was just worried if she would run out of food to eat, but never about demons. I knew there was no room for regret, but I wanted her safe. And not just safe, I wanted her to be able to get back to the life she was accustomed to. But I had no idea where to start from. I had killed many shifters, one after the other, but I had yet to face a demon. I was sure I was nothing in front of them, but I was sure as hell that I would not let them touch Althea if I could. I would never let another mate die on my watch. “Are you a couple?” The witch in front of us asked. I sat beside Althea in the middle of the living room
ALTHEA. “I can sleep on the floor,” Blade said after he closed the door, and we were left alone in that small room. I bit my bottom lip, trying to stifle a giggle from escaping my throat the moment I turned around to look at him. The roof was low, and he had to hunch his back to avoid bumping his head. “What’s funny?” He asked, scowling. Gone was the soft expression that was on his face earlier. Probably because pretending we were a couple no longer applied when we were alone. But I wasn’t even acting when I cried in the living room. I didn’t want him to leave because even if I was annoyed with him all the time, I wanted him around me. “You look uncomfortable with how small this room is for you,” I told him. “I am. I hate small spaces. I hate small things. I could crush them easily.” He answered right away. The smile on my lips was wiped out immediately. It just reminded me that I was one of the small things he never liked. “Will you be fine on the floor? We can share the pi
BLADE. “Enough, Althea.” I tilted my head to the side, avoiding kissing her more as I shut my eyes so I wouldn’t see her, which was a wrong move. Because even with my eyes closed, all I saw was her. All of her, and I felt more of the way she was grinding against my bulge. But I knew I couldn’t take this any further. Althea was young, and I was probably the first male she had around her, so there was no doubt that she felt attached to me. But we both knew this was leading nowhere. I didn’t want her. I was okay with being alone. I just wanted her to be safe. Althea’s body stiffened before she climbed out from top of me and settled on her side of the bed, with her back on me. I wanted to console her, but it would just make leaving her harder. So I stayed still, not letting the feel of her back against my arm affect me, even if the sparks between us were giving me a pleasure I would never get tired of. I kept my eyes closed and tried to put Soledad’s face in my mind. I had a ma

EPILOGUE 2 BLAIR.I showed Alonso my dagger—a gift from Mama Patrea and Dada Lucius. It was made in the underworld. Mommy taught me a spell where I could summon it even from a great distance, in case I needed it in a time of danger. But I didn’t tell Alonso I was not supposed to use it for simple duels like this. In no time, we were dueling, and I could tell he was going easy on me. Easy, but not really easy. “Oh, shoot!” His dagger slashed into my arm as he was backing away. It was painful, but it was just a small cut. Nothing that wouldn’t heal. He was about to approach me, but I held my hand to stop him. “Moved back. You’ll pay for cutting me.” I said, giggling, and before I realized what I was doing, I threw the dagger at him. Like I’d done twice today, and I didn’t throw hard. I knew he could dodge it.But for some reason, my surroundings felt too warm, like I was placed in a sauna. After that, everything happened in a flash.I saw the dagger flying at full speed toward him.
FIVE YEARS AFTER EPILOGUE 1 Blair 11 years old Alonso 16 years old Luther 12 years old Blast 7 years old Lukas 6 years old Lily 6 years oldALTHEA. I sliced another portion of the cake and placed it on Blast’s plate. He, Lily, and Lukas had been eating non-stop, and if I was not aware of who their fathers were, I would definitely ask them to stop. But I knew they could all handle the sweets and food. They had an appetite bigger than the whole Kalmerus. “And you were saying?” I inquired as I made my way toward the sink. I had to wash the cake knife directly and place it back inside the drawer afterward, as it’d be a big risk to leave it on top of the counter where Lukas could see it. Lukas had a fascination with knives, and at six years old, he had no control over his reflexes. Everything he throws would end up exploding. “Sorry, I spaced out,” I added.“I said Blair is doing great in the Alpha camp. It didn’t matter that she was the only female there. She could make all th
6 YEARS AFTER BLAIR’S BIRTH.‘Luna Althea…’ The Omega’s voice reached my head, and my heart dropped. She was panicking, and I could tell she was running.‘Where are you?’ I asked as I opened the door from where I was.I saw Meredith running toward us with Blair in her arms. I grabbed my daughter from her and checked for any injuries or something strange, but there was nothing. “What happened?” Blade asked as he stood behind me. He was holding Blast, our two-year-old son, in his arms. We were celebrating Blair’s sixth birthday, and we had a small celebration in the packhouse. I was in one of the receiving rooms with our guests when Meredith mindlinked me. She was Blair’s Omega, and she had been with her since she was a baby. When I was not with our child, she was the one responsible for her. So, the worry in her voice made me panic, too.“I turned my back to her for a few seconds, and when I looked back, she was already outside the door. I didn’t hear her open the sliding door. I kne
ALTHEA.“It is no longer in our control, Althea. But I’m keeping my hope that one day, Elliot will realize we are not the enemy.”Althea didn’t reply and just let the silence rule us. The last car passed by, and we acknowledged the nod of respect they gave us. Once they were out of our sight, Althea turned her body around and wrapped her arms around my waist, resting her cheek against my chest. “Shall we call it a night, Alpha?”“Hmmm… The night is young. Would you like to go somewhere with me?”“You know I will go anywhere you lead. What do you have in mind?”My eyes dilated before a smile graced my face. I licked my upper lip before I leaned down, my mouth brushing against her ear. “Rage wanted to take control tonight. If you let him…”She pulled away from hugging me, and I always laughed out loud at the way her eyes squinted and her lips pouted. “Rage or you? You’re always using his name…”“My Luna knows me so well,” I chuckled before pressing my forehead against her. She was so sho
BLADE.“You need to be careful with your words, Blade. He’s too young to be traumatized.” Althea said. “I’ll try my best…” I let out a breath and tried to calm myself. Althea was traumatized as a child, and she made it her advocacy to look after children’s welfare. She had built a women’s center in our territory, which was run by females and served as a safe haven for women and children. As much as I tried to have a peaceful territory, domestic abuse was still present, but no one was complaining about it. So Althea wanted the women’s center to reach out to every school and hold symposiums and meetings to build awareness that there was a place they could always go to. Her vision and effort were rewarded, as lately we were able to save two females and their children. It was not a big number, but it was still celebrated on our end. While one of the perpetrators managed to escape and has yet to be found, another has already received a whipping and is currently serving his sentence in
ALTHEA.Six months had gone by since Blair was born, and so far, everything had been quiet. We had not heard of Alastor. I was not even sure if he was aware that I had given birth already, as there were no strange occurrences within the territory.Blade had beefed up the security, investing in the same equipment that Adan had used before to detect a demon’s presence around his territory. He used Lucius’ body temperature as he was the closest to what Alastor was—a full royal demon. But we have not detected anything up until today. Either it didn’t work for Alastor, or he was really nowhere around us. We tried to live normally. Blair hadn’t stepped out of the packhouse grounds, but she was given an Alpha welcome in one of the hotels in this territory. We took a big risk that day because we wanted our people to see her. They deserved to meet their future Alpha, and I was grateful that everything went smoothly. There were also no signs of Alastor or even his aura. Four royal demons su
ALTHEA.After spending a few more minutes together, Blade helped me change into more comfortable clothes, and we finally let our family and friends see Blair.Patrea, Lucius, Lucy, and Adan came in together. My Beta Female Thalia and Gamma Female Sheena also came with the Beta and the Gamma. Lucy was holding her son, Luther, while Thalia had Declan in her arms. Declan was just five weeks old, and I had already fallen in love with him. I was lucky that my girl would have him. Based on how protective his parents were toward me and Blade, I knew the future Alpha would be in good company. With me and Thalia having pups, we had been teasing Sheena that it was her turn this year, so our pups’ ages wouldn’t be too far away.We had no idea if our teasing did it or simply because our Gammas couldn’t get their hands off each other. Sheena was already in her third month of pregnancy, and in less than seven months, our Gamma baby would be born. Sheena had already relocated to our pack and was
ALTHEA“Blade!” I screamed before I gave one last push, and I felt a large mass just swim out of my vagina as my whole body melted. I had been tired from doing rituals and spells and sex marathons with my mate, but I was never this tired. I felt like all of my limbs and even my internal organs needed a whole year to get their energy back.I was still lost in oblivion when a loud cry pierced the air, and Blade’s hold on my body tightened as he hugged me again. I was sure he had been whispering words to me, but I kept spacing out.“We have a girl…” He mumbled excitedly when I finally met his eyes.I couldn’t stop the smile from curling on my lips. I was actually smiling wide because Blade’s enthusiasm was contagious. What was funnier was that we knew all along that we had a girl. Guinevere confirmed it, and the ultrasounds said it as well. But the excitement on his face and his voice told me like this was the first time he found out we were having a girl.“Can you believe we have a girl
ALTHEA.A soft moan escaped my throat before I bit my bottom lip, suppressing any further sound from coming out as I arched my body. I woke up with a tingling sensation coursing through my core, and I was right — Blade was worshiping my pussy, feasting on it as if he were never fed. I just let myself get lost in the sensation, and it took a while before my surroundings sank in.We were in my cottage. In my old childhood bedroom. He probably didn’t feel right fucking me in my mother’s bedroom, so instead, he cramped us in my little bed. The last time I remember, we were inside the cave behind the waterfall. I couldn’t remember coming here. I must have passed out. My pregnancy was making me sleepy all the time, so falling asleep anytime, anywhere, was nothing new. And the way my body felt secure around Blade was most likely the reason I didn’t wake up while he walked us home. Then the memory of my conversation with Guinevere came flashing in my head. But was it real? Or was it all a d
