Isabel POV

The world seemed to get hot as I stared at the man that was leaning on my car. I just wanted the ground to open up and swallow me that way saving me from engaging in this conversation. I visible gulped as I saw his smirk even in the night darkness. It was the same cocky and arrogant smirk that I thought I had left behind in the darkest part of my memory.

" Hello Mi Amor." He said again, this time he took few steps towards me while I took few steps backwards.

" You know that guy?" Jamin asked beside me still obviously operating on the alcohol he had in his system.

I ignored him. My eyes wete focusex and trained solely on Alex, whose piercing blue eyes had not left mine. The same gaze that once made me feel butterflies and feel loved. Right now that same gaze makes me feel small, unworthy, and terrified. My heart pounded against my chest rapidly as memories I had buried long ago clawed their way to the surface of my mind. He was a vivid representation of my past, the path

Miguel POVI glanced at my wristwatch, it was midnight already. I unlocked the door of the room in the most quiet way I could. I wasn't ready to deal with Vanessa this night. I flipped the light switch on and my heart almost jumped out of my chest when I saw a figure seated on the couch." Vanessa! You scared the shit out of me. What are you doing sitting in the darkness?" " I was waiting for you, you work so late these days." She said as she stretched, a yawn escaping from her mouth. " I've been busy, Vanessa. Stop being needy." "How could you do this to me, Miguel?" Vanessa said in a low tone. I couldn't blame her, Rosa, her sister brought her into whatever twisted plan she had. One thing I knew for sure was that Rosa was up to no good. My mind had been occupied with Elena's proposal and Isabel kicking me out of her life permanently. I haven't even been able to process all that before I was ambushed by my wife, whom I'd been keeping at arm's length since our wedding."Vanessa, I

Isabel POVThe air was thick with tension as I sat on the edge of the bed, staring at the black box I had just retrieved from my drawer. My hands trembled as I opened the box, revealing its contents: a stack of aged documents, a faded photograph of my mother holding a baby—but not me—and a small, ornate key. My mind raced. If the box held secrets about my family, then the key must open something important. But what? Before I could go further, my phone buzzed. Jamin’s name flashed on the screen. I hesitated before answering.“Isabel, we need to talk, its important.” he said, his voice low and serious.“Talk about what, Jamin?” I replied, trying to mask the unease in my voice.“Not over the phone. Meet me at the diner near Greenfield Park in an hour.”“I… I am not your…”He hung up before I could argue. A sinking feeling settled in my stomach as I glanced at the photograph again. Who was the baby in my mother’s arms? And why had Jamin suddenly become so cryptic?Miguel POVThe conferenc

Isabel POVThe shot echoed through the factory’s walls. My ears rang, a deafening silence pressing in around me as I pushed through the shattered remains of my calm. Whoever had pulled the trigger wasn’t visible from where I stood, but the chaos in the air was intense. My breaths came fast and shallow, heart pounding as if trying to escape my chest. My grip on the small key from the black box tightened. I ducked behind a rusted beam, trying to steady myself and listen. Footsteps—rapid and heavy—pounded the concrete, followed by grunts and the sharp clang of metal against metal.“Miguel, you can’t keep running!” Gideon’s voice snarled.Miguel? My head spun. I peered around the beam just in time to see him. Miguel had a gun in his hand, but his movements were defensive.“Give it up!” Gideon shouted.Another figure appeared, slipping from the dark. It was Alex, moving like a predator through the maze of machinery and debris. He wasn’t aiming for Miguel, though. His attention was fixed o

Isabel POVI’ve always heard that silence can be deafening, but I never truly understood it until now. The quiet in Miguel’s penthouse was suffocating, broken only by the distant hum of the city below. Miguel leaned against the window, his back to me, staring out at the glittering skyline as if searching for answers among the lights. Alex was perched on the armrest of a chair, while I sat on the couch, clutching the small key in my hands. My mind spun with questions I couldn’t answer, doubts I couldn’t silence, and fear I couldn’t shake. “We need to move,” Miguel said finally, his voice breaking the tense silence. “Gideon’s not going to stop. If we wait, we’re giving him the upper hand.”“Move where?” I asked, my voice steadier than I felt.Miguel turned to face me. “Wherever that key takes us.”“And how exactly do we figure that out?” Alex interjected. “Unless one of you has a map stashed somewhere, we’re running blind.”“We start with what we know,” Miguel said, his gaze shifting t

Isabel POV“You’re not just a loose end,” she said, her voice calm but laced with urgency. “You’re the missing piece he needs to complete this puzzle.”I stared at her, my mind struggling to keep up with her words. “What are you talking about? I don’t know anything about Gideon’s plans, and I certainly don’t have what he needs.”Marissa shook her head. “Not consciously, perhaps. But your family’s legacy holds the key—literally and figuratively. That black box, the deeds, the photograph… they’re just the surface. Your father’s secrets go much deeper.”Miguel’s hand rested lightly on my arm, his touch grounding me. “What exactly are you saying?” he demanded, his tone sharper than mine.Marissa gestured to the maps and documents scattered across the table. “Your father built an empire on more than hard work and smart investments. He made deals, alliances… some of which came at a great cost. Gideon’s family was one of them.”“That doesn’t explain why Gideon’s so obsessed with Isabel,” Mig

Isabel POVThe vault stretched before us like an endless labyrinth, its towering shelves heavy with forgotten secrets. The air was cold and damp, carrying the faint metallic tang of age. I stepped deeper into the room, my eyes scanning the shadows for anything that might hint at the answers we sought.Miguel’s voice cut through the silence. “We need to stick together. This place is a maze.”I nodded, though my thoughts were elsewhere. My father’s letter had left me with more questions than answers, and the weight of its warning pressed heavily on my chest. “Trust no one, not even those closest to you.”Marissa’s flashlight beam danced across the shelves, illuminating titles in languages I couldn’t recognize. “It’s not just about the vault,” she muttered, almost to herself. “This is a tomb for secrets—each one more dangerous than the last.”“Then let’s not waste time,” Miguel said, his jaw tight with determination. “What are we looking for?”“A ledger,” Marissa replied, her voice stead

Isabel POVThe room was suffocating. Marissa stood to the side, her knife glinting faintly under the dim light, while Miguel leaned against the wall."You've done the smart thing," Miguel said, his voice cold and detached. "But you're not off the hook yet. If you're lying—""I'm not," Alex interrupted, his voice hoarse. "Gideon's summit is happening in two days. Everything—his allies, his resources—will be there.""And the location?" Miguel pressed.Alex hesitated, his eyes darting between us before he muttered, "An abandoned resort. Edge of the city, near the cliffs."Miguel POVI pushed off the wall, stepping closer to him. "You've just bought yourself time. Miguel POVThe ambush was worse than I'd anticipated. Gideon's men were already inside, their positions fortified. He dropped his weapon with a grunt, collapsing behind a desk."Marissa, status!" I shouted over the din. "I'm pinned, but I'm fine!"I swore under my breath, scanning the room for Isabel. Isabel POVI sat on the edge of the couch, the weight of the past few days pressing heavily on my chest.Miguel and Marissa were huddled at the table, their voices low as they reviewed the plan Victor had laid out. It was straightforward in theory: expose the information in the ledger through multiple channels to ensure it couldn't be suppressed. But in practice, it felt like a gamble with stakes far too high.I clutched the coffee mug in my hands, the heat seeping through my fingers as I tried to focus."You're quiet," Miguel said, his voice breaking through my thoughts.I looked up, meeting his steady gaze. "Just thinking.""Care to share?"I hesitated, then set the mug down. "Gideon's too calm. He's always a step ahead. What if this plan isn't enough?"Miguel POVIsabel's words hit harder than I wanted to admit. Isabel POVMiguel sat at the table; the ledger spread open in front of him. His brow furrowed as he flipped through its pages."What does it say?" I asked, breaking the silence. "It's not just numbers. There are names—people who worked with Gideon, who funded him, who stood by while he ruined lives."A chill ran down my spine. "Do you recognize any of them?"Miguel nodded slowly. "This one. Senator Halstead. If he's involved, it's bigger than we thought."Miguel POVEach entry wasn't just evidence—it was a ticking time bomb.Marissa paced near the window, her sharp eyes scanning the tree line. "Halstead is untouchable," she said, her voice low but firm. "If we go after him, we'll need more than this." She gestured toward the ledger.I leaned back, running a hand through my hair. "He's not the only one. Look at this—bank accounts, shell companies. Gideon didn't just work alone; he built an empire.""And we just cracked its foundation," Marissa replied.Isabel POVMiguel and Marissa's
