CHAPTER 36:

Elara’s Perspective

The cold edge of Ravik’s blade bit into my ribs as he dragged me through the darkened warehouse, gunfire still exploding behind us. My heart pounded in my chest, but I refused to panic. Panic wouldn’t save me.

Think, Elara. Think.

I forced myself to go limp, making my body heavier, harder to drag. Ravik cursed under his breath and yanked me up with more force, but the second his grip loosened—I struck.

I twisted, slamming my elbow into his ribs. He grunted, stumbling slightly, but his grip remained vice-like. Before I could break free, he slammed me against the metal door of an emergency exit.

“Nice try,” he growled, pressing the knife harder. “But not good enough.”

I glared at him, chest heaving. “You’re making a mistake.”

His lips curled into a smirk. “No, darling. The mistake was Volkov thinking he could outplay me.”

He shoved open the door, pulling me into the alley behind the warehouse. The moment we stepped outside, two black SUVs screeched to a h

CHAPTER 37:Elara’s PerspectiveThe car smelled of leather and gunpowder. My wrists burned from the tight zip ties, my pulse drumming in my ears as Ravik’s men drove me deeper into the unknown. The city lights blurred past the tinted windows, each passing second pulling me farther from safety—farther from Damian.I needed to get out. Now.Ravik sat across from me, legs spread in a display of dominance, his cold eyes drinking in my every move. The bastard was enjoying this.I met his gaze with defiance. I wouldn’t cower. I wouldn’t break.“Where are you taking me?” My voice was steady, but inside, I was already mapping out ways to kill him.His lips curled into a smirk. “Somewhere Volkov won’t find you.”I leaned back, forcing a calm I didn’t feel. “You think you’ve won?”Ravik chuckled, slow and deliberate. “Not yet. But I will.” He reached into his coat, pulling out a sleek black phone. “And Volkov is going to watch as I destroy everything he loves—starting with you.”The car hit a r

Waiting. The compound was a fortress, lined with armed men and cameras at every corner. Ravik had planned this well. He knew Damian would come, and he was ready.I exhaled slowly, my mind racing.I needed to warn him.The thought of Damian walking into this death trap made my stomach twist. I had to find a way to signal him, to tell him it wasn’t safe—Before it was too late. The door creaked open behind me, and I tensed.Ravik strode in, his presence filling the space with arrogance. “Enjoying the view?”I turned slowly, masking my fury with indifference. “Just admiring your paranoia.”He chuckled. “I prefer to call it preparation.” He took a step closer, his eyes scanning me. “You’re thinking of him, aren’t you? Wondering when Volkov will come for you?”I said nothing. He smirked. “He’ll be here soon.”M

Don’t you dare close your eyes.”The edges of my vision were rimmed with black, but I fought to stay conscious. For him.“I’m fine,” I choked out, even though we both knew it was a lie.He growled something under his breath—Russian, angry and raw—as he lifted me into his arms, cradling me like something fragile. “You are not allowed to die on me.”The compound was in chaos. Ravik’s men had either been killed or surrendered. The air was thick with smoke, the metallic stench of blood coating every breath.Niko met us at the threshold of the destroyed hallway, eyes widening as he saw me. “We’ve got the med van ready. My arms were bound behind the back of a steel chair, the cold bite of zip ties cutting into my skin. Blood trickled from a cut on my cheek. My head throbbed. But I wasn’t afraid. Not this time.Because fear meant they had power—and I wasn’t giving them that. The room was concrete and steel. Underground. A warehouse maybe, or a bunker. No windows, only the sound of humming generators and boots echoing in the distance. And then I saw him.Alexei Vasiliev. His hair was slicked back, his tailored suit spotless despite the carnage he’d unleashed. He stood in front of me like a man who believed he owned the world.“Elara,” he said smoothly, like greeting a favored niece. “It’s good to finally have a proper conversation without your... distraction present.”“You’re delusional,” I snapped. “If you think I’ll listen to anything you have to say, you’re worse than I thought.”He

She didn’t cry often. She didn’t allow herself to. But Niko had been family. Not by blood—but by bond. And we had just lost him.I swallowed hard and rose to my feet.“We need to leave,” I said hoarsely. “Now.”Lena nodded, wiping her face, her expression hardening again. “We’ll cover the exit.”But my mind wasn’t on the escape—it was on the file. Something off the grid. Black ops.”The lights above us flickered—then went out.Everything plunged into darkness.I swallowed a scream as the elevator screeched to a halt and the emergency brakes slammed us to a dead stop. Sparks fell from the ceiling. Then silence.“What now?” I asked, my voice cracking.Damian pulled a flashlight from his jacket and flicked it on, casting a sharp beam of light across the panel. Now she was wearing the insignia of the Phoenix—the same organization that had me labeled as a dormant weapon. Damian didn’t move. His jaw was clenched, shoulders coiled with readiness. His gun hung low, but his finger was near the trigger. “She’s my sister,” I whispered. He didn’t look at me. “Not anymore.” “Let her in,” I said, voice shaking. “I need answers.” “I’ll give you ten seconds to change your mind.” I stepped in front of the door. “I won’t.” A beat passed. For a split second, neither of them seemed real. Everything I thought I knew had just been shattered in the space of one sentence.“What the hell does that mean?” I whispered.Damian stepped forward, holding the phone tighter, like it was the last thread holding everything together. “The recording… it’s from fifteen years ago. Buried in a vault Viktor had under lock and kill order.”“Kill order?”He nodded. “Anyone who accessed it... died. But I didn’t go in blind.”“And you waited until now to tell me?” I hissed, rage beginning to claw its way up my throat.“I needed proof,” he said. “And time. Neither came easily.”L

My mind raced with a thousand questions, each one more confusing than the last. What had the figure meant? No true allies? And what was all of this about Viktor being a pawn? Was there someone pulling strings behind the scenes, orchestrating everything? My father had always been the most powerful man in the room, the one who made the decisions, who controlled everything. How could he have been a pawn in some larger game?I swallowed hard, my throat dry as the weight of the realization pressed down on me.I was utterly alone. The sudden thought struck me like a bolt of lightning, sending a tremor through my body.
