"Contract marriage?" I exclaimed, unable to believe my ears. "Yes, the only reason he's getting married to Samantha is so that he can form a partnership with her father," Reggie replied. "But Leo is a drug lord. Since when do drug lords even form partnerships?" I asked with a scoff. "They do. It's not common because of the lack of trust in the drug business, but Leo is sure that Sam's father won't hurt him if he's married to Sam." On hearing that, I realized that Leo cared more about his business than he did about me, iif he cared at all. "I have to go, Reggie. Thanks for bringing me here," I said and got out of the car to leave. I couldn't handle hearing about how Leo never loved me any longer. "Sophia!" Reggie called out. I stopped in my tracks and turned to him. "He still loves you, he's just in a really tight position right now," he said. I almost scoffed at his words. "Sure," I muttered and slammed the door shut. I walked into my new condo. It wasn't big or fancy, but it was quite homey. I felt more at peace there than I ever had at Leo's in the last two years. I grabbed a bottle of wine from the counter and popped it open, pouring the contents into my mouth. I don't remember how much of the wine I drank, all I remembered was drinking on the couch until I passed out. . . . The ringing of the doorbell woke me up the next day. I got up too fast and was immediately knocked back down by a banging headache. "Shit!" I cursed and massaged my head with my fingers. The doorbell rang again and again, making my head hurt even more. When I couldn't take it anymore, I forced myself to get off the couch and practically dragged myself to the door. I slid it open expecting to see someone, but there was no one there. "Is this thing broken?" I mumbled and took a look at the doorbell, but it seemed fine. I poked my head out and looked around to see if someone was hiding in a corner, but there was no one. "Must be a ring and ditch," I thought to myself and made to close the door. Suddenly, a tall man jumped in front of me, and before I could react, he grabbed me and threw me over his shoulder like I weighed nothing. I screamed, punched, and kicked, trying to attract the attention of the neighbors, but since it was a Monday, everyone had gone to work or school. The man carried me to a red car and threw me into the trunk. I was extremely claustrophobic, so being stuck in the trunk was traumatic for me. I kicked the trunk, hoping a cop or passerby would hear and become suspicious, but it seemed like everyone in the world had disappeared. I finally gave up kicking as I was running out of air in the enclosed trunk. I still had a headache from the hangover, and I was beginning to feel nauseous. I felt the car finally come to a halt, and the door opened and shut. I guessed we had arrived at our destination, wherever that was. The trunk was finally opened, and I was hit with a wave of fresh air and light. The man dragged me out of the trunk, and I saw that he had parked in front of an abandoned warehouse. He pulled me into the warehouse and made me sit in an old chair. "What do you want from me? Who sent you? How much did they pay? I'll pay triple," I promised in a desperate attempt to be let go. "Shut your mouth while I'm being gentle," he threatened, and I quickly went quiet. He was really muscular, and I feared one hit from him would leave me dead. The door to the warehouse slid open, and two women walked in. One had her face covered by a mask, so I couldn't make out who she was, but the other person I recognized right away. "Sam!" I gasped. Why did she have me kidnapped? Hadn't she done enough by stealing my husband? "Hello, Sophia. How are you doing?" she asked with a stupid smile on her face. "What is wrong with you, Sam? Haven't you done enough?" I yelled, wanting to break out of the chair and slap her across the face. "Easy there. We don't want you straining your voice now. You can scream your lungs out later," she said, and I wondered what she meant by that. "Why are you doing this? Does Leo know about this?" I asked. "Leo gave me permission to do whatever I wanted with you," she replied, and my heart sank on hearing that. "Lies! Leo would never do that!" I yelled, though deep down, I was beginning to think he was actually capable of doing it. "After the stunt you pulled yesterday, he asked me to get rid of you," she replied with a smirk. "So what are you going to do to me now? How else are you going to hurt me?" I asked with a scoff. The worst she could do was hit me. She turned to the man standing next to her and, with a wicked smile, said, "Burn her."Sophia "Burn her!" Samantha instructed with a wicked smile and turned to leave. "Oh, and Sophia…" she paused and turned to look at me, still smiling. "I'll make sure to take good care of Leo for you," she whispered in the most annoying voice and burst out laughing. "Sam, please don't do this! I'm not going to be a problem! I'll leave him!" I cried, hoping she would stop seeing me as a threat, "That's the thing, Sam, even if you leave him, you can never leave his heart. He loved you, and as long as you're alive, he won't let me fully into his heart," she replied and took slow strides to where I was. "He doesn't love me. If he did, he wouldn't divorce me so easily, so please just let me go," I pleaded. She pretended to think about it for a while before saying, "Nope, I am not taking any chances. You have to go. Sorry." She spun around and walked out of the room, leaving me with her two minions. The man picked me up from the chair and took me back outside to the same car he broug
Sophia I watched as the car drove off the cliff without any remorse, after all, he didn't mind watching me burn in that car.I spun around and began to walk out of the forest when I heard a loud explosive sound. I turned to see flames erupting from the cliff and let out a satisfied smile.I returned to my condo and packed a few things that I could get my hands on. I needed to get out of there fast. I packed some clothes, jewelry, money, and most importantly, my passport.I knew that it was only a matter of time before Reggie or Leo heard of my "death" and stopped by to check if I was really gone. If they found out I was still alive, it wouldn't take long for Samantha to find out, too.I put on a pair of faded blue jeans, an oversized hoodie, and a baseball cap. I zipped up my suitcase and dragged it outside. I thought of calling a taxi but decided that using my phone was too risky. Sam could be tracking it.The bus stop was just a stone's throw from where I lived, so I dragged my sui
Sophia’s Pov“W-what is this, what are you both doing here?” My brows furrowed as I glanced between the lady and Quinn, who relaxed in his seat without a care in the world. He was the only person sitting in the First Class area, which said a lot. Just how rich was this man?“I never imagined we’d meet this way, Sophia.” His lips curved into a thin smile as he leaned forward to pick up a glass of wine, slowly tilting it into his mouth.I watched on in discomfort, fiddling with the edge of my clothes as I gulped harshly. This was definitely not how I planned for my day to go. I didn’t expect to meet my ex-husband’s lifelong enemy here, yet here I was, standing in the midst of chaos. Hailey finally spoke up, “I saw her trying to flush her baby out. I intervened as soon as possible.” “Oh? Did something go wrong between you and Leo?” He asked, a smug smirk tugging at his lips. My eyes stung with tears and my throat felt tight all of a sudden, as I gripped the edge of a seat, trying to
Sophia “Are you listening to yourself?” I blurted, shocked by his proposal.“You heard me right. I said you should marry me.” Quinn repeated himself slowly, and each word made me feel like I was in some sort of a fever dream.“So, I marry you and in return, you protect me? That’s all?” I glanced towards Hailey, seeking some assurance. It seemed like I should’ve just walked away when I had the chance. What had I gotten myself into?“Why is that so hard for you to believe, Sophia?” Hailey interjected, annoyed by how I was speaking probably.“I’m honestly just trying to understand why you’re both helping me.” I shook my head in confusion, pursing my lips.“Do you need to know the minor details?” Quinn said, his demeanor calmer than ever. I bit my tongue to hold myself back.“What else am I in for? I want to know now.” I demanded, standing my ground.“That’s not something we can tell you right now. All I know is that if you follow through with this, you’ll be safe from Leo and Samantha’s
Sophia’s PovMy fingers glided over my soft skin, which felt nothing like it had before. I hadn’t looked in the mirror yet, but Hailey was constantly fawning over how beautiful the work done on me was.“I do feel better now…” I murmured, taking a peep at Hailey who was sitting on the edge of my hospital bed. “Yeah, the doctor said that by the second week, you’d be fine. The bandages are ready to take off too. Are you ready to see your new face?” She beamed.I pursed my lips, unsure if I would like the outcome or not. The deed was already done anyway, it was either I regretted my decision or I loved it. There was no in-between and like I usually told myself over and over there is no choice either.I sat up slowly, “Yeah…I think I am,” I nodded, outstretching my hand, “Could you pass me the mirror?”“Uh, yeah.” Hailey reached for the handheld mirror on the small wooden table beside her, passing it to me. This was the final revelation, huh?I took small, shaky breaths as I slowly unrave
Sophia pov Getting used to living as Gina is a tad bit difficult. Each time someone in the house called me that, I wouldn't quickly notice and when I did it'd be too late. Even Hailey was disappointed.is it that hard to comprehend?I stood in front of the mirror, trying to give myself a pep talk. “You can do this, Soph–.” I paused, slapping my forehead in agitation as I shook my head. No, no, I'm getting it all wrong again. “Gina. My name is Gina now.” I breathed, smoothing down my clothes as I noticed my bump. So, babies grew this fast? I gave a small smile to myself before stepping out of the room, ready to take on another day. I had been informed a while ago that Quinn had requested to see me, but I was getting ready which made me late. When I arrived, the room was full of smoke and there in the middle sat Quinn, puffing on a cigar with his legs kicked up on the small glass table in front off him. It was either he didn't know that I had entered, or he just ignored me because
Sophia pov I sat on my bed in silence, my mind playing games on me. I still couldn’t seem to forget how Quinn killed that man and left him lifeless in a pool of his own blood. It made me absolutely sick to my stomach. The scene just kept on replaying in my head over and over as I took deep breaths and drank water. Two days had passed now, and I hadn’t even eaten anything. I heard a soft knock on my door before a maid waltzed in with a tray full of food. “Madam, here’s your breakfast.” She said, standing in front of me. “Uhm, you can go put it right over there.” I gestured to the table beside my bed, and she nodded immediately moving to place the food there. “ Master Quinn says you should eat.” She said, and with that, she scurried out of the room leaving me all alone in my silence. The funny thing is that I kneww I would not eat the food, it’d go the way it had been for the past 2 days. Quinn knew it, Hailey knew it, the maids knew it, even the chef knew it. I laid back down on m
Sophia pov I groaned, putting a hand up to my head as the birds outside chirped loudly. I didn’t feel like getting up but the noise made it unbearable for me to fall back to sleep easily.I carefully sat up, guiding myself with one arm on the bed while pushing my back to rest against the headboard. With every movement now, I could feel my stomach getting heavier and heavier with the baby.I heard a rustle beside me and turned to face the chair where I saw Quinn. His eyes were fixated on me and narrowed. I yelped, my heart racing and my eyes wide as I looked at Quinn, “What are you doing here?” I asked, barely hearing myself over the sudden rush of blood to my ears.“Were…were you watching me sleep?” I asked, feeling self-conscious all of a sudden. I was in just shorts and a tank top, and even though the blanket did a good job of concealing me, I still couldn’t help but feel odd.He ignored my questions, standing up from the chair with a soft creak. “You’re awake, good.” He crossed hi
Georgie opened the limo’s door, the air conditioning was in. Cold mist burst out and ozzed away. A familiar scent of olive and roses came with it. My nose twitched and I grinned. Only one man made such a cold entry. I climbed in and the iridescent lights flickered on. He was right next to me, so close I could hear his slow heart beat and watch his chest rise and fall. He stared as if enchanted by the icy glow in my eyes. He had his never-changing unreadable expression except this time, he seemed genuinely immersed in the way he held me breathless and backed against the door.“Did you have fun?” He spoke, his masculine accent seemed to bounce off sensations from his lips and they made my body react instantly. That's voice had become permanent for a while now. “Sort of. There weren't very interesting people.”“I suppose so.” He pulled away and I struggled with regaining what was left of my shattered shield of impenetrable femininity.“There aren't many as hard core as Leo Fernandez.”
~ GINA’S POV ~I washed my hands for the third time at the hotel sink before I sanitize again and went to lying wearily on my bed.I hope more than anything that this would be the last time I would have to do that to Leo again. The very sight of him disgusted me.I glanced past the florescent lamp, to an alarm clock on the bedside table. It was still a little past 5. Hailey would not be here till evening. I missed my Derek already. I want to hear him call me ‘mummy’ again.I slipped out of bed and undressed. Then I glided into the large walk-in closet and stood stark naked in front of the mirror. There was nothing. Absolutely nothing left of Sofia’s features. I had become a new woman. After that incident at the mall, Three years ago, I had been all out and about, investing time and money into self-confidence, power and prowess. The world that Leo dwelled in, will certainly not be expecting me and what I had in store. This wasn't like back then, I knew the ropes now and I knew it well
~ LEO’S POV ~I massaged my temples and let out an exhale of utter impatience. The musk scent worn over my cologne left a lingering indication of my savage indifferent desires to end the life of the man dangling off the ceiling in chains.I let out slow, calming breaths and took another look at him. He seemed almost peaceful. And it makes my rage erupt. I grabbed the gun on the table and clicked the trigger. He opened his eyes, unfazed by the threat of getting blown into bloody pieces.“Guns? Come on Leo, you can do better.” He mocked.“You really are as insane as they say you are.” I tucked the gun back in, stepped over the small table and walked to him. I leaned real close to his ear and whispered.“You know you do not need to die from this. Just point me in the right direction and I will be on my way.”He stared at me from the corners of his eyes and then made a small chuckle.“Leo Fernandez, you will never find him. Quinn De Luna, is a ghost and sooner or later, he will come haun
I watched the birds play tag outside my window. The trees rustled gently from the breeze. The city outside bustled and hustled with a serene Sense of modern peace and the roses in my hospital ward perfumed the air with a mixture of unrealistic expectations.Expectations for all this to just go away. I was tired. Sincerely tired. Over two years ago, all I wanted was to make a family with the hottest boy in the club. He had a dangerous job, I knew that but it only exhilarated me. Only made him dangerously attractive. And now, in just a span of one year, I lost everything and I was becoming who I feared. Up till now, I still hadn't felt anything about shooting someone dead. I had become incapable of remorse. All this would have never happened if Leo and I stayed together. If Leo stayed with me.I took in a deep breath and exhaled. My mind drifting out of those hallucinations of my haunting past. I still have a future to live for. But I didn't know exactly what to do with it.“Woman of s
The whole world seemed to be spinning and I was moving with it. My eyes were trying to open but my head hurt. I felt a hand place gently on my behind. The touch jerkede back to reality. It was peach black where ever I was and my legs were off the floor. I was been carried. ‘The robbers. They got me’. That was the first thought that hit me. I wasn't going to be held captive. Not again. I grabbed whatever I could and pulled on it. I heard the robber groan, he fell to the side, hitting the wall. I fought to get off his shoulder, my struggle throwing us on the ground. I scammered off my feet, to run. He grabbed me, pulling me down, I hit the ground again.“Get off of me.” I spoke up, as loud as I could.“Get off, you son of a…” I fidgeted, kicking Vigorously. The man was stronger, larger. He wound over me and my hands are pinned to the ground.“Calm down.” He said in between pants. “It's just me.”“Georgie?” I recognized his voice immediately. My heart eased up the next instant. I
I didn't go out with Quinn for a while after that, partly because he got busy. He was trying to recover a port that he lost to someone. I took the time to heal my mind from the fear that the training had stuffed into me. I still wanted to do it but It was freaking me out. I couldn't lie to myself about that. After some weeks, his schedule freed up. Hailey traveled for a while. She didn't tell me where but Quinn knew and he didn't complain. I was in the house alone with Quinn and Derek.Derek had grown a tooth so the visiting doctor told me I had to start getting him to eat other food other than just breast milk. The day I decided to shop, Quinn was out and he assigned Georgie to me.We visited the baby stalls first. Georgie had his orders, so he hung around me everywhere I went. “Mam, which one do you prefer?” the sweet Burnette asked me. She was standing beside the breast milk pumpers. “I am not quite sure.” I said, a bit nervous about Georgie listening in. I wished again that
It has been a week since that night. Quinn had only asked for me once after that day. He was more savage the second time. He didn't even wait for me to come to him. He came into my room, bolt the door and stripped.“Come to me. I need you.” Was all he said. I reminded him we were not going all the way, he didn't seem to want to at all. He just wanted to play. And that's what I did. Pleasuring him, anyway I could until he was groaning and begging.A while ago, I learnt from Hailey that Quinn was having a hard time although he didn't say why. It made sense why he came by. He wanted me to help with his heavy heart.I saw this as a chance to make my move. I had been meaning to make some demands from him however I couldn't find the right time. But now, in this lovely afternoon, while he lay in my arms with only his pants on and I played with his hair; It felt just right to say it now.“Quinn.”“Mhmm.” His eyes were closed.“I have something I need to tell you.”“What?” He sounded slightly
A WEEK LATERMy guess is, something like this had never happened before in this house or this city to be frank because in the passing days after the incident, everyone hovered around like ghosts. I was confined to the room, me and Derek. Quinn never came by and Hailey hopped in just to see the baby. She exchanged no words with me. I adjusted the best I could, to the change. Making it all seem like routine but deep down it was eating me up inside. And the fact that I was incapable of conceiving any plan to make amends, brought back the helpless feeling. On the seventh day after the kidnapping, I decided… I would get things back the way they were even if I had to beg.It was evening, the roses on the left axis of the garden had freshly bloomed and it looked like the eve of spring. The scent enveloped the atmosphere, as if soothing both of us for the conversation I was about to have with Hailey, who sat next to me, tangling her hair in her finger.I took a deep breath and started. “Hail
- GINA -The cold winds whooshed and whirled around me, fluttering the end of my coat and playing with my hair. I stood like I had been frozen, in the middle of the rooftop of this dilapidated building, so frail, It seemed as through it might come falling over if I take a step.I could see people, three men, one rested nicely on a wooden chair while the others stood around him. There was a baby basket in the arms of one of them. I could hear a child crying. I wanted to rush over, to madly rip my baby out of their filthy grip and put a bullet through their skulls but I knew better. Looking Unphased was key in any negotiation. So the silence dragged on between us. They seemed to be waiting for something and I didn't know what it was. It was driving me crazy not knowing that.I hated every bit of me, with each passing second. The memories of life since I met Leo played like a CD tape before my eyes. How vulnerable I had always been. How I never really acted until my death was near. I w
