“Gina. What are you doing?”

I shut my eyes and bit my lip. Breathing slowly. I was scared, my hands gripped the handle but I didn't want him to see it. To know what was happening.

I put up a plastic smile and turned to him

“I’m trying to go outside. To go home. I feel suffocated in here.”

Quinn took one step forward, I grit my teeth, suppressing the urge to step back

“It's midnight, Gina. Where would you go?”

My lips quivered a little, I tried to keep it unnoticed.

“I… I… I didn't know it was that late.”

I breathed, my whole body shivering a bit. It felt so much like fictional characters standing in front of a killer who they knew was going to end their lives by morning. I guess it was because somehow, the exact same thing is happening now.

“Gina. Are you sure you are alright?”

“Yes.” I beamed.

Quinn’s eyes were dead black and staring right at me. Half believing my charade obviously. His midnight hair slicked back gave him a 90’s devil mafian look.

“Alright. let's go upstairs.” He r

I literally iced.Quinn stopped. Slowly we disentangled, his tongue crawling out of my mouth. He had a lascivious grin on his cheek. Then he averted his attention, to the intruder standing with their jaw dropped, by the door.“Can't you knock?”Hailey frowned.“It's not my fault an exhibitionist like you thinks PDA is cool.”Quinn chuckled, looking at his watch and getting off the bed. “I will punish you later.” He said to Hailey who stuck her tongue out at him. He looked at me, winked and left the room.I let out a sharp exhale, as tension drained from my shoulders . ‘Oh God, I had been holding my breath the entire time’.Hailey rushed me, grabbing my hands, almost startling me.“Start talking missy.” She held up an apprehensive and yet curious gaze.I made a nervous laugh.Unconsciously, I slipped a hand out and fanned my face. I was flushed so much I looked like a tomato.“Want to get some air?”“Yes.. please.”Hailey cracked, laughing. I joined her, allowing the euphoria to en

Hailey made another turn, pacing back the way she came and repeating it again.I sat down by the cradle, my face pale and wet with my oulen tears. Sobs escaping my lips every 30 seconds. It all didn't seem to make any sense. I just couldn't accept it.He can't be gone. He was right there, sleeping with his fits folded and his angelic little figure. He is still so fragile and so little, how could someone take him. I gripped my night gown, right where my chest was, bending over, my body quivering as the pain and the tears came rushing back.“Ah!” I yelled, hitting my chest. Scattering my hair in a frenzy. I wanted to beat my self up. To go crazy. They took him. Which kind of mother am I? I can't even protect my own son?Hailey went on her knees immediately, pulling me into her warm embrace, my face buried in her chest. I just wept. I couldn't do anything but that and I hated myself more because of it.While we just stayed that way, Quinn walked in. He had his plain expression again bu

    - QUINN -I swirled the Lamborghini into the roadside garage, parking recklessly on the empty sidewalk. I hopped out, slamming the door and half running the rest of the way.Black Cars rolled in after me. Men in suits and daring aura, jumped down. Guns unhidden on the holsters strapped to their waists.I reared up to the last vehicle. The sources were right, she really did park a SUV here. The car door was unlocked. I jacked it open. It was empty. The necklace I had gifted her was on the car seat next to her phone. She knew I was tracking her so she left them.“F*uck!!” I jammed the car door.‘That smart son of a…’ I knew from the day she returned from the hospital that she had activated a heightened level of stealth and defense. She was married to a Mafia afterall. The moment spies told me she left the house, I already had a good guess of what she wanted to do but i didn't know where so i decided I would lay low and find out but now i wish I didn't.I let out a exasperation, ironic

    - GINA -The cold winds whooshed and whirled around me, fluttering the end of my coat and playing with my hair. I stood like I had been frozen, in the middle of the rooftop of this dilapidated building, so frail, It seemed as through it might come falling over if I take a step.I could see people, three men, one rested nicely on a wooden chair while the others stood around him. There was a baby basket in the arms of one of them. I could hear a child crying. I wanted to rush over, to madly rip my baby out of their filthy grip and put a bullet through their skulls but I knew better. Looking Unphased was key in any negotiation. So the silence dragged on between us. They seemed to be waiting for something and I didn't know what it was. It was driving me crazy not knowing that.I hated every bit of me, with each passing second. The memories of life since I met Leo played like a CD tape before my eyes. How vulnerable I had always been. How I never really acted until my death was near. I w

A WEEK LATERMy guess is, something like this had never happened before in this house or this city to be frank because in the passing days after the incident, everyone hovered around like ghosts. I was confined to the room, me and Derek. Quinn never came by and Hailey hopped in just to see the baby. She exchanged no words with me. I adjusted the best I could, to the change. Making it all seem like routine but deep down it was eating me up inside. And the fact that I was incapable of conceiving any plan to make amends, brought back the helpless feeling. On the seventh day after the kidnapping, I decided… I would get things back the way they were even if I had to beg.It was evening, the roses on the left axis of the garden had freshly bloomed and it looked like the eve of spring. The scent enveloped the atmosphere, as if soothing both of us for the conversation I was about to have with Hailey, who sat next to me, tangling her hair in her finger.I took a deep breath and started. “Hail

It has been a week since that night. Quinn had only asked for me once after that day. He was more savage the second time. He didn't even wait for me to come to him. He came into my room, bolt the door and stripped.“Come to me. I need you.” Was all he said. I reminded him we were not going all the way, he didn't seem to want to at all. He just wanted to play. And that's what I did. Pleasuring him, anyway I could until he was groaning and begging.A while ago, I learnt from Hailey that Quinn was having a hard time although he didn't say why. It made sense why he came by. He wanted me to help with his heavy heart.I saw this as a chance to make my move. I had been meaning to make some demands from him however I couldn't find the right time. But now, in this lovely afternoon, while he lay in my arms with only his pants on and I played with his hair; It felt just right to say it now.“Quinn.”“Mhmm.” His eyes were closed.“I have something I need to tell you.”“What?” He sounded slightly

I didn't go out with Quinn for a while after that, partly because he got busy. He was trying to recover a port that he lost to someone. I took the time to heal my mind from the fear that the training had stuffed into me. I still wanted to do it but It was freaking me out. I couldn't lie to myself about that. After some weeks, his schedule freed up. Hailey traveled for a while. She didn't tell me where but Quinn knew and he didn't complain. I was in the house alone with Quinn and Derek.Derek had grown a tooth so the visiting doctor told me I had to start getting him to eat other food other than just breast milk. The day I decided to shop, Quinn was out and he assigned Georgie to me.We visited the baby stalls first. Georgie had his orders, so he hung around me everywhere I went. “Mam, which one do you prefer?” the sweet Burnette asked me. She was standing beside the breast milk pumpers. “I am not quite sure.” I said, a bit nervous about Georgie listening in. I wished again that

The whole world seemed to be spinning and I was moving with it. My eyes were trying to open but my head hurt. I felt a hand place gently on my behind. The touch jerkede back to reality. It was peach black where ever I was and my legs were off the floor. I was been carried. ‘The robbers. They got me’. That was the first thought that hit me. I wasn't going to be held captive. Not again. I grabbed whatever I could and pulled on it. I heard the robber groan, he fell to the side, hitting the wall. I fought to get off his shoulder, my struggle throwing us on the ground. I scammered off my feet, to run. He grabbed me, pulling me down, I hit the ground again.“Get off of me.” I spoke up, as loud as I could.“Get off, you son of a…” I fidgeted, kicking Vigorously. The man was stronger, larger. He wound over me and my hands are pinned to the ground.“Calm down.” He said in between pants. “It's just me.”“Georgie?” I recognized his voice immediately. My heart eased up the next instant. I

I stood sit, staring at the empty sea where my ship once sailed. Some boken pieces of metal managed to float, the wave drifting them to shore for me to see. Perhaps, like the universe, it was trying to wreck me displaying what I had lost before my eyes.Somehow it all seemed sort of unreal. Like a very bad nightmare. My bleeding arm gnawed at me and my vision blurred a few times from the throbbing headache behind my head but it didn't seem to make me want to believe that this is really what It is. I just watched 200 billion worth of cargo go up in blast and flames. In that moment, I felt the meaning of emptiness. The hollow, dead-like and soul crushing feeling that I had lost so much. My body was weary and slightly trembling but I couldn't bring myself to walk away. The loss hit me too hard to let me move, even when the obvious screeching of a car was evident. The engine stopped, and the driver got out. I did not look back until he spoke.“What an explosive day, don't you think?”A d

I hopped into the Ferrari and Reggie hit the brakes, screeching into the road. Everything was forgotten; my grief, my sobbing and even shaving. That shipment was carrying nearly half my life savings. I lose that and I will have a taste of bankruptcy for the first time. There is nothing a Mafia lord feared more that losing moneyThe port is still an hour ride from us even though Reggie is disobeying every traffic signs. I loaded up the revolver, placing them next to us. If Quinn is really there then there is definitely going to be a blood bath in motion. My phone rang, the Don managing the port is calling. I picked the call, impatienting yelling into the phone.“Where the fuck have you been?!”“Boss, I'm sorry but we are taking in heavy fire right now.” I could here guns offloading in the background and men sprouting curses.“Do you have eyes on Quinn?”“No, boss he isn't here.”“Find him.” I cut the call, ramming my hand on the car door. I took in a deep breath and exhaled. Su

LEO’S POV I sat alone in the silence of the room, nursing my bruised arm. The grandfather clock ticking one second after the other and the breeze swinging the curtains side by side. There is a lingering ache in my chest. I sucked in a breath but I couldn't exhale. Yesterday kept coming back to me each time tried to breathe, to release the pain. I shut my eyes, feeling tears fill my eyes until the glittered when I opened them. The tears threatened to fall but everytime I looked at the picture frame in front of me, I wijced the tears back. I didn't deserve to feel sad. I didn't deserve to cry. I didn't have to right to grieve. The day Sofia died, I didn't go to find her body, I didn't ask of her again. She was the only one who treated me like I was human and I disregarded her like she was filth. What was I thinking. Remembering the past now made me wonder how on earth finding I thought I could find someone to replace her. I didn't deserve happiness. Sitting in the quiet I

My heart stopped when I heard those words. Every bit it the way he said it, was enchanting. Tonight he came to me with a fine black shirt and faded blue jeans. We looked like teens hiding out in a garden because we didn't want anyone to know, we were….“Sofia.” His voice broke into my reverie.“Yes.”“I… know you are. I know you…. You are probably upset about…”“Quinn, please, not now. Don't change the topic here.”He was quiet, pursing his lips like he always did when he is embarrassed. That was something that almost never happened. He sucked in a breath and exhaled.“I am sorry. I am really sorry. I held back even ehen I knew you didn't want me to. I made you feel like you mattered only because of what you could do for me.”He squeezed my hand.“I am sorry I didn't tell you what I should. I made you keep quiet and hold back so much. To constantly ask yourself what exactly we are.”I looked down at our hands. “You don't have to apologize. This is my fault too.”“No, it's n

The rest of the day went like flashes. I must have blacked out but Quinn’s last words lingered in my sub-consciousness. It felt like a dream. Like I fantasied it and even when I opened my eyes on the hospital bed and I saw him, heads down, sleeping soundly, i still found it all hard to believe.Perhaps it was fathom fear that left my heart still racing or it was the fact that I couldn't believe he said that.To be honest, I had forgotten. I had completely forgotten we got married a while after we met. There was just this unspoken rule that no one should refer to it because it wasn't real.I turned my head to stare at him, lost in a reverie where I actually imagined what it would be like if we lived like an ordinary couple and Dereck was our son.I guess it was because of how carried away I was, that I didn't hear the nurse come in.“Mam. You are awake.”I looked her way, Quinn’s eyes opened immediately. As expected, he didn't exactly dose off.“How are you feeling?” She asked,

“Anyone. Anyone. An….”“50 billion dollars.” The crowd gasped looking around immediately. Searching for who spoke. I looked back, at the man in the dark. I knew it was him. A frown creeped up my lips. As Gina, there were some habits I had as Sofia which I never gave up, one of them was Losing an auction.“Going. going. Go…”“200 billion dollars.” I yelled it, standing up with my plaque held up. A smug look on my face. Let's see him outbid that. “This item is… is…. is…. SOLD!!” He hit the hammer on the table and I clenched my fist in victory. I hung my head up, allowing the pride to inflate my ego. Standing in the middle of the room, felt somewhat exotic and nostalgic. The memories of that auction was rushing back and I felt as though it was repeating itself. The thought made me smile at how my mind could wander sometimes. There was no way it could repeat itself. It was night that day but more importantly, Leo was in the room and I walked over to him because his little stunt had ch

GINA'S POV I stood in front of the mirror, not staring at myself but at the emptiness that had become my life. Revenge made me feel hollow with each passing day. If Quinn had not been as easy going as he was, I wonder what would be my faith. I had to admit, I liked being in his arms, there was an assurance that it gave me which I couldn't find anywhere else. Last night, I spent it reminding Quinn that all I wanted was to sleep. He played deaf far too many times, trying to get my PJs off. But eventually, he succumbed. I sucked in a breath and exhaled, shutting my eyes. Today is just odd. Since I woke up, I had been feeling uneasy. Like there is something I wasn't telling myself.I grabbed my towel I head into the bathroom, filling the tub and taking a minute to soak. I guess perhaps I'm feeling this way because I knew deep down that last night I actually wanted Quinn not to listen to me. I just couldn't understand why when it came to Quinn, I just couldn't accept how I fe

LEO’S POV I just stood there, my fingers slightly clenching the bridge of my nose. Exhaustion was evident in the silken look on my face but frown on my lips deep, dark and menacing like the glare in my eyes as I stared at the drunk Reggie drooling on my Multi-million dollar couch.I bet even God knew it was the past we shared they was keeping me from shooting him or perhaps it was just that I didn't want to wipe blood off that couch.I took a moment to exhale, letting the air flow out with the hot air. I scratched my hair in slight frustration and the looked towards the door where the butler was hiding.“Get that thing off my couch.”“Yes Sir.” He shuddered in, running like a frightened child, to wake Reggie. I left them disappearing upstairs. If I stayed a little longer, I will probably shoot them bothThe first thing I did, the instant I pushed the bedroom door open, is to fling myself on the bed, shutting my eyes immediately after.I tried to envision Gina's face when she

GINA'S POV Quinn parked the car miles away from the government house. If we needed to be normal, a Ferrari would definitely destroy that impression. We flashed our IDs at the checkpoint and stated our destination. We were led right to the office on the second floor. An air-conditioned white tiled off with the American flag placed in the most expensive flag-holder I had ever seen. We sat close on the brown cushion. Quinn scrolled through his phone and I admired the picture of the United States president, unaware that Quinn had abandoned his phone and was looking at me until I turned. He smiled.“He is too old for you.”I frowned, raising my middle finger at him. This is the third time today he made an annoying joke. What's with him anyways. He has never been this… calm.He chuckled at what I did. “If you want to look at anything, look this way.” “At what?” He leaned forward, so fast. I couldn't even react before his face was right next to mine. His board chest almost touch
