Chapter six

Logan’s pov

I was having a friendly chat with Selene in one of the sitting rooms when my beta Luke came rushing over, his face apologetic.

"Sorry to interrupt," he said, slightly out of breath. "But Mother demands your presence right away, Logan."

I raised an eyebrow. "Any idea what this is about?"

Luke shook his head. "No, she didn't say."

Turning to Selene, I gave her a regretful look. "I'm sorry, I have to go see what she wants. I'll come right back as soon as I can."

Selene smiled softly. "Of course, I understand. We can continue our discussion later."

I left her in the sitting room and made my way across the pack grounds to the packhouse where my mother resided. As I approached her quarters, I could hear hushed voices coming from behind the door. Knocking firmly, I entered at her call.

"Ah, Logan, there you are." Mother's expression was unreadable as she looked up from where she sat with another wolf - Zara from the Council. "Come in, come in."

My eyes narrowed slightly at the strange setup, but I did as instructed, moving to stand before her. "You wished to see me, Mother?"

"Yes, indeed." She drew a steadying breath. "You know the goddess has not yet granted you your mate. I've been...considering other options."

Other options? A knot formed in my stomach as I anticipated her next words.

"I've discussed things with Zara here." Mother gestured to the wolf sitting rigidly beside her. "She comes from an influential family and would make a strong mate for our future alpha. If you took her as your chosen mate now, it would solidify important alliances and provide you with powerful heirs."

The anger and indignation that surged through me was blinding. How dare she try to arrange this? After all the rebellious wolves had fought for freedom and the right to choose our own paths?

"No." The word emerged like a growl from deep within my chest.

Mother's eyes widened in surprise. "Logan, don't be foolish -"

"No!" I cut her off more forcefully, shaking my head. "I will not enter into some arranged mating, Mother. When the moon goddess blesses me with a mate, so be it. But I will not take one chosen for me based on politics or alliances."

Zara made a small noise of protest from beside Mother, but I barely heard her. My furious gaze remained locked on my mother as I struggled to control the wolf raging inside me.

"You are the future alpha," Mother hissed, a hint of desperation entering her tone as she realized she would not sway me so easily. "You must think of more than just yourself! What of providing suitable heirs and strengthening our lineage?"

"If you'll excuse me." I didn't wait for her dismissal, but turned and stormed from the room, slamming the door behind me with enough force to rattle the walls. How dare she? After everything our kind had endured to be free of such dishonorable ways?

I was stamping across the grounds, claws extending from my fingertips as I fought not to shift in my all-consuming rage, when a sharp scent hit my nostrils. Blood. Fear spiked through me as the rich metallic scent triggered my protective instincts.

In a blink, I allowed my wolf to consume me, clothes shredding as my body morphed into my impressive fur-covered form. Driven by the scent and the endless pull to defend my pack, I tore off towards the western edge of our lands, a ferocious growl rumbling from my wide jaws.

The scene that met me was one of complete chaos. Vampire Raiders - the lowliest scum who seemed to think hurting innocents was sport - were attacking a small group of our wolves. Bodies littered the forest floor as the remaining wolves fought desperately to defend themselves and each other.

With a deafening roar, I launched myself into the fray, razor-sharp teeth and claws becoming deadly weapons against the vampire filth. They may be quick, but I was stronger, fueled by a pure and feral rage at the thought of them threatening my pack.

Though outnumbered, I fought like a possessed beast, tearing into them with everything I had. Vampires fell around me in pieces until finally the remaining few realized their folly in taking on the future alpha. They fled, seeming to vanish into the night like cowards.

Chest heaving, I scanned the motionless forms scattered in the dirt and leaves, whining low in my throat as I struggled to scent who was dead or simply unconscious. Shifting hastily back to my human form, I began examining each one, checking pulses and breathing.

"Logan! There you are!" Luke skidded to a halt beside me, taking in the gruesome scene with horror. "What happened?"

"Vampire raid." I spat the words like a curse as I continued examining the bodies. "Get the healers' team out here immediately. We need to get the injured back to the healers' den."

Luke nodded and took off at a sprint, howling to alert the pack and summon aid. Relieved help was on the way, my mind turned to a more pressing matter.

Selene. She had been with me in the sitting room earlier, but was nowhere to be seen now. A cold knot of dread formed in the pit of my stomach as I realized she didn't appear to be among the injured forms on the ground.

"Selene?" I cupped my hands around my mouth and bellowed her name, listening intently. Nothing but the sounds of the night forest answered me. "Selene!"

I shifted back to my wolf form, nose working furiously as I traced her sweet scent away from the sitting room and towards the area of the ambush. But it disappeared completely amid the stench of blood and death, providing no clues as to where she could have gone.

By this time Luke had returned with the healers and able-bodied warriors who carefully began lifting the injured for transport. Unwilling to leave any possibility unexplored, I shifted back urgently.

"Luke!" I strode over and gripped his arm firmly. "Selene is missing. I can't find her scent trail after it leads to this area. You must organize search parties immediately to comb the territory. She has to be found!"

The fear and desperation must have shown on my face, as Luke simply nodded once in understanding before barking out orders to those around us. I resumed my frantic search, becoming more frenzied the longer she remained lost to me.

Where could she have gone? Why would she have wandered this deep into the lands alone? Unless...unless she didn't go willingly. A growl built in my chest at the thought of her being taken against her will, perhaps by the same vile vampires who had ambushed our people.

"I'm going to tear this entire forest apart until I find her," I vowed through gritted teeth, claws extending once more as I fought the urge to fully shift and simply begin destroying everything around me in my need to locate Selene.

The very thought of her being hurt or afraid made my heart pound and body burn with protective instincts. I would stop at nothing to bring her home safe.

So consumed was I by this drive, this urgency to find the woman who had captured my interests, that I didn't notice my own beta approach me with a troubled look. Luke grabbed my arm, pulling me from my reverie.

Chapter 80: Selene's POVMy body felt empty, like someone had scooped out all my energy with a spoon. I lay in bed, staring at the wooden ceiling of our bedroom. The morning sun made patterns through the curtains, dancing across my skin. But my hands didn't glow anymore. The silver light was gone."It's really gone," I whispered, lifting my hands to look at them. Just normal hands now. No magic. No power.Logan sat beside me, his face tight with worry. He hadn't left my side since yesterday, when I broke the curse on Tomas. His big hand covered mine, warm and strong."Not gone forever," he said softly. "Just... sleeping. Yarrow says your power will come back next year."Next year. The words hung in the air between us, heavy with what they meant. Logan's curse would kill him in less than three months, during the blood moon. Next year would be too late.I turned my face away, not wanting him to see my tears. "I'm so stupid. I didn't think. I just saw Tomas suffering and reacted."Logan'

Tiny silver sparks danced across my fingertips, like little stars that had fallen from the sky and landed on my skin."Stop it," I whispered, clenching my fists tight. "Just stop."But the sparks only grew brighter, spreading up my arms in delicate, shimmering patterns. My heart pounded so hard I could hear it in my ears. This had been happening more and more since that day in the clearing when my powers first showed themselves.I closed my eyes and took a deep breath, trying to calm down. Chapter 78: Selene's POVThe old library in the Blood Moon pack house smelled like dust and ancient leather. I sat cross-legged on the floor, surrounded by stacks of books and yellowed papers. My fingers trembled as I opened another dusty journal, this one belonging to my father."I never knew you kept so many secrets, Dad," I whispered to the empty room. The pages were filled with his neat handwriting, telling stories I'd never heard before.A sharp pain in my chest made me pause. Even after all these years, thinking about my father still hurt. He died when I was fifteen, taking so many secrets to his grave. Now, reading his private thoughts, I felt like I was meeting a whole different person."Your father was a remarkable man," Yarrow said, making me jump. I hadn't heard the old witch doctor come in. He moved like a ghost sometimes, which was creepy.I wiped my eyes quickly, not wanting him to see my tears. "Did you know? About his connection to the Blood Moon pack?"Yarrow sat in a

Chapter 77: Logan's POVThe morning sun hadn't even risen when Kieran burst into my study. My uncle's face was pale, his silver-streaked hair wild like he'd been running through the forest all night. The scent of fear rolled off him in waves, making my wolf stir uneasily inside me."Nephew," he said, his voice rough with exhaustion. "We need to talk. Now."I stood from behind my desk, my muscles tense. Fifteen years. That's how long he'd been gone, searching for answers about our family's curse. Now he shows up without warning, reeking of panic?"Where have you been, Uncle?" I kept my voice calm, even though my heart was racing. "No letters, no word of any kind for over a decade."Kieran ran a shaky hand through his hair. "I know, I know. I should have... but there wasn't time. Logan, the curse—it's worse than we thought. Much worse."My stomach dropped. I gripped the edge of my desk to steady myself. "What do you mean?""I found ancient texts in the eastern territories. Scrolls that

Chapter 76: Selene's POVMy heart pounded against my ribs as I slipped into the back of the council chamber. The air felt thick with tension, heavy with the scent of anger and fear. I pulled my hood lower over my face, not wanting anyone to notice me. This wasn't my pack anymore—not since Nathan had banished me—but I needed to see Sofia's trial with my own eyes. The elders sat in a half-circle at the front of the room, their faces stern and unreadable. Sofia stood before them, her head held high despite the chains binding her wrists. I had to admire her courage, even after everything she'd done."Sofia of the Nightfall Pack," Elder Miriam's voice rang out, silencing the murmurs in the room. "You stand accused of conspiracy against your Alpha, of practicing forbidden magic, and of endangering the pack through your actions. How do you plead?"Sofia's laugh was cold and sharp. "I did what was necessary. This pack has grown weak under its current leadership."I flinched at her words. Even

He said not even a single word, panic and pain coursing through his vein, swallowing hard. Nothing else had been said between them both.“I'll be out for some air," Nathan added reluctantly. More pain coursed through his veins, yet he could not help himself. “Matt?” Sophie called out; her heart skipped beats as soon as she cast her gaze against that of Logan's and nathan 's; it was Matt who had betrayed her and screwed her over.“I'll ask Sophie, Where are my children? Whatever, he knew he wasn't going to repeat himself, and he was certain the words were clear enough.“I'm sorry… I'm really sorry.” She mustered beneath her breath, pain and anger eating away at her.Logan didn't like the fact that Nathan was doing too much; it was his babies, his kids, and so far as pleased everyone knew the pups didn't belong to Nathan and that selene had been pregnant when she came to join their pack.Yet he wasn't prepared to face his wrath at a moment like this, nor wasn't seen calling him names and passing on blame to him.“They are right, right here.” Sop

!“Selene ?” Logan called out her name, almost as though he had seen a ghost. His heart hammered in his chest. He had a lot to say to her, a whole lot to explain, but he knew at the moment he dared not voice out a single thing.“I'm sorry, we should have done this a long time ago.” Logan Wolf added in, feeling the pain he had felt, and it ate away at both of them, barely holding up to them.“What part of don't step out if your room did not get yours?” Nathan asked, becoming angry himself. He balled his fast signs and approached selene s' horse.“Don't get out of my room. Or keep her locker DUP like some rabid dog?” selene asked my response while staring deep down into nathan 's orbs. She felt no empathy, love, pain, or regret of any kind as she spoke with him. It was safe to say that every form of butterflies she'd had in her belly before, the ones he'd given her, entirely made me sick down to the core. He could barely understand it.“What do you mean?
