Chapter 34:

Caroline's POV

I sat on the couch, waiting for Gina to pick up my call.

The apartment was quiet….. too quiet. Even though it had been only a few hours since I left Kane’s penthouse, I already felt the weight of my decision pressing down on me.

I needed someone to keep me company and Gina was the only person I could think of.

Finally Gina answered, her face on the screen told me she was excited.

“Hey stranger,” she teased while her eyes twinkled. “How’s the new place?”

I forced a smile. “It's different but it's nice. Still trying to adjust.”

She tilted her head like she was trying to study me. “You look tired. Are you sleeping well?”

I hesitated then let out a brief sigh. “Not really.”

Suddenly I felt a wave of nausea hit me. Gina must have noticed cause I saw the way her eyes flickered to my hand on my stomach.

“Caroline…” her tone softened. “Are you okay?”

I hesitated before nodding. “It's just been a long day.”

“You know what I'm talking about, Caro.” Gina sighed. “

But when I looked at her, the tension in her eyes told me all I needed to know. “Caroline…..” I sighed, running a hand through my hair. “What do you mean?”Caroline shifted uncomfortably then wrapped her arms around herself. “I'm pregnant, Kane.” The words hit me like a fist to the gut. But despite the shock, a question crept into my mind. “Who's the father?” I asked, my voice colder than I expected. Caroline frowned. “What?” I took a step forward, heart pounding in my chest.“You heard me. Who's the father, Caroline?” Her face twisted to disbelief. “Who else? It's you, Kane.” I crossed my arms and scoffed. “Funny. Because according to the media, you've been cozying up with one of my employees. So forgive me if I don't take your word for it.” Her eyes widened. I could tell she was hurt but I didn't stop. “You’re lying,” I accused, pacing around in her living room.

Chapter 36:Caroline's POV I took a deep breath then opened the door. I was shocked to see a man whom I didn't recognize. He was in a tailored suit and the shoes he wore obviously screamed rich. God why can't these Billionaire's give me a break…“Wrong house…” I simply said, then tried closing the door but the man put one of his legs in the way, stopping the door from closing shut. “Caroline Parker,” he said, his voice smooth and casual. “This is your apartment right?”I didn't respond. I felt a wave of disgust roll through me, then I felt chills on my spine. What if he was actually the stalker?I gave a nervous laugh and replied. “Parker? Never heard of her.”The man looked at me like I was completely crazy. I ignored the glare and simply suggested he looked around, maybe he'd find “Caroline Parker”.I thought he'd walk away but instead he forced the door open, stepped inside and shut the door behind him. I sighed and looked him in the eye. That's when I noticed something fami

Diane leaned against one of the couches. “Well, we know Kane has finally ditched his bitch.” “And?”Robertson stepped closer to me. “It means he's weak and disturbed right now, which means the moment he recovers he's coming for us all.” I gulped down the drink, the burn in my throat doing little to wash down the bitterness rising inside me.Kane. Always Kane.Even when he’s hurting, they act like he’s some unstoppable force. Like I’m the shadow and he’s the storm.I set the glass down with more force than I intended.“So what?” I said coldly. “You want me to finish the job before he bounces back?”Diane raised a brow. “We want you to be smart. Strategic. If Kane regains his footing, he’ll go after the board, the investors, and you… in that order.”Robertson added, “You’ve already planted doubt. Now’s the time to pull strings, make the board question his stability. Hit him where it hurts, his

I’m here because my dear father thinks your brother might be getting a little out of hand. Too much chaos and too much unpredictability. It makes him... an easy target.”I

I picked it up and frowned.Robertson? The name on the screen only made my frustration grow.I didn’t answer. But the truth was, I couldn’t afford to ignore him forever. Robertson was a tool and a pawn in this twisted game. A game I was already a part of. If I didn’t take control, I would lose everything, and I couldn’t afford that. Not now. Not now when there was a chance that I would be having a child. I reached for my phone then I swiped to dial Jayson. It rang twice before he picked up, his voice light, too casual.“Yeah?”I didn’t waste time on pleasantries. “Where are you?”“I’m out, Kane. Why?” His voice was careless, like nothing was wrong.“I saw the footage,” I said, the words hanging in the air like a threat. There was a long pause, and then a faint laugh, one that made my blood boil. “I fi

Chapter 40:Caroline's POVMy gaze shifted to the wall clock. 10:25. Kane should have been here by now. I sighed, then picked up my book. If he knew he was going to bail then he shouldn't have called.Today was the day the DNA Test results will come out. He had offered to drive me down himself. I had refused at first but he kept on insisting.I knew the only reason he insisted was because he thought I'd go ahead of him to change the results. And now he was purposely being late in hopes that he wouldn't find me home and then place the blame of framery on me when the tests came out positive.I wasn't smart but I wasn't so dumb that I wouldn't notice his motives. Then the sound of a car honking brought me back from my thoughts.“Speak of the devil” I thought to myself. Closing the book, I stood up, straightened my crumpled shirt, picked my bag and stepped towards the door.I walked out to see the Black SUV waiting for me. The tinted window on the driver's side slid down. Kane star

I couldn't believe that I was the one worried about some result. Then he looked up and smiled. “Mr Kane Brown, the results show that your DNA matches the paternity test 99.9%, you're definitely the real father.”Caroline heaved a huge sigh. I turned to her expecting her to say something. But she didn't even look in my direction. I was the father of unborn triplets and I had broken their mother with my own words.I felt the whole world collapse around me. I didn't know whether I should be excited or worried.I felt like a sailor lost in the sea of decisions.Excited about the fact I was becoming a father or worried about the fact that Caroline might never want my children to have anything to do with me. When I got in, I went to the receptionist desk. “Excuse me, I think I left my car key here.” I asked, politely.“Do you mean this?” A familiar voice came from behind me, followed by the sound of jingling keys. I turned around to see Gina standing behind me, holding out the SUV keys like they belonged to her.I smiled and reached out for it but Gina pulled away.“What are you thinking?” she said, giving me a stern look. But my mind was far from calm.I wanted to freeze this moment, to trap it between my fingers like glass and never let it shatter. But that was the thing about peace in this world… it never lasted. At least not for me.I tilted my head slightly, watching him sleep, his jaw finally unclenched, brows relaxed, the weight he always carried no longer etched into his face.He looked human like this. Vulnerable. But that didn’t make the storm behind his eyes any less real. And still… I loved him. Damn me for it, but I did.I curled my fingers into the sheet and let out a slow breath, trying to ignore the tightness in my chest. The babies had kicked earlier, right before everything melted into heat. A reminder that everything had changed.I was no longer just Caroline Parker.I was a woman caught between the past and the future. Between heartbreak and healing. Bet

Everyone thought you were….”“Dead,” he finished for her. “Yeah. I figured as much.”“And now you just show up here?” she demanded, her voice shaking. “After everything you did? After leaving without a word?”“It wasn’t by choice,” he said quietly. “But I get it. You don’t trust me. Chapter 51Kane's POV The silence that followed was deafening.Caroline blinked, caught between confusion and disbelief. "Excuse me?""A contract marriage," I clarified, voice even. "No pressure, no wedding gowns, no roses. Just a paper. A binding legal agreement.""For… what exactly?" Caroline asked, her voice tight now, more cautious."Protection," I said. "Legal rights over you means I can move you, protect you, act instantly if anything happens again. It gives me leverage in a way bodyguards can’t."Caroline’s mouth opened, but no words came out. Gina, on the other hand, looked like I’d sucker-punched her in the gut."That’s a bit extreme, don’t you think?" Gina said, trying and failing to sound light about it."It’s the safest option." I looked back at Caroline. "You don’t have to give me an answer now. But the longer you think about it, the more danger you stay in. So it should be just a contract for now and if you think I'm worthy then we can do a proper marriage.”Gina’s eyes

He stopped just inches from Jayson, staring hard.“You were rumored shot and dead,” he said, rubbing his temple as if the whole situation was giving him a migraine. “Though we told the public you were missing.”“Good,” Jayson replied smoothly, brushing Diane off gently. “Let them believe it. It gives us leverage.”Robertson’s brows knitted together. “What do you mean?”“Kane thinks I’m gone. And so does Mr. Reynolds, for now. That puts us in a position of control. If I’m presumed dead, no one’s watching my movements. I can go where others can’t. Dig where others won’t.”Clever bastard.Robertson narrowed his eyes. “You saw him, didn’t you? Reynolds.”

Facility 09 was compromised.”I leaned forward slowly. “Compromised how?”“There was an assault. Clean. Fast. No security feeds survived, and over forty guards are confirmed dead. Reynolds is no longer in custody.”A sharp pain pulsed behind my eyes.“That prison was underground,” I muttered. “Built to contain the worst of the worst. There were only two ways in or out—and both were death traps.”Micah nodded grimly. “Whoever orchestrated this knew that. It was inside help. The escape was executed using one of the facility’s backup helicopters.”Of course it was.I turned my back to them, staring out the window, jaw clenched hard enough to ache.Reynolds was out. That meant the nightmare wasn’t over. That meant the ghosts from our past weren’t done with us ye

The sight alone pulled old memories I’d buried so deep.As soon as the chopper touched down, I stepped out, boots crunching against the snow.
