Rosita’s POV

A sharp, shooting pain jolted me awake, and I cried out, sitting up abruptly. A woman was kneeling beside the bed, her rough-skinned hands tending to the angry red burns on the soles of my feet.

Instinctively, I tried to pull away, but she shoved my leg back down, glaring at me. "Behave yourself, Perra," she snapped. "My name is Silvia, it's not like I'm some kind of nurse. But my boss insisted I take care of you, so don’t make me do something I would regret."

She stuffed a small towel into my mouth, muffling my tortured screams as she applied a pungent ointment to the blistered skin. As I chewed on the fabric, I took the opportunity to study her.

Her long, red hair was marked with premature strands of white, and her eyes were covered in heavy black makeup, lending her a decidedly witchlike appearance. A small ring decorated her nose, and multiple earrings lined the shell of each ear. Dressed in a leather crop top and jeans, she had a large, ghostly tattoo on her right hand.

Once the woman—Silvia, as she had introduced herself—had gently wrapped my feet in a non-stick dressing, she rose from the bed, pinning me with a piercing stare.

"I'm the only female allowed in the boss' life; even if I'm just one of his henchmen now, I will be something more in the future," she stated bluntly. "And while you may be beautiful, if he has no more use for you, he will just get rid of you."

My blood ran cold at her words. "'Get rid of me'?" I echoed, my voice trembling. "W-What do you mean by that?"

Silvia merely laughed, the sound grating on my nerves. "Stay in here while we decide what to do with you," she ordered, slipping out the door and leaving me alone.

Hesitantly, I reached up to touch my throbbing head, the motion sending a fresh wave of pain through my feet. Gritting my teeth, I rose from the bed, using the mattress as support as I slowly made my way to the small balcony door.

Peering out, I drank in the sight of the bustling nighttime street below—cars honking, people chattering as they strolled by. It had been so long since I'd experienced the outside world, and a sense of melancholy nostalgia crashed over me. How I longed to simply walk those sidewalks with my father, as we had done in years past.

But those carefree days were clearly behind me now. Drawn by the sound of raised voices, I tiptoed to the window, peeking in to see the strange, eyepatch-wearing man in heated discussion with his henchmen, including the one from the fire and Silvia.

"Boss, why don't we just leave her here and go back home?" Silvia suggested. "I have already tended to her wounds, she will be fine on her own."

But the man shook his head. "I can't just abandon her," he stated. "We burned down her father's house to get to him, and since we couldn't find the old hag, we will just have to use the daughter to draw him out."

Silvia's brow furrowed. "But we can't take her to the mansion! That's a sacred space, only we're allowed there, it’s rule number one. And we are not kidnappers, you just want revenge on her father. I promise to bring you his head."

Their boss stroked his chin thoughtfully. "This isn't up for debate," he declared, his tone brooking no room for argument. "I'm taking her back with us. We will just do it in a way she won't know where we are going, If I have to break my own rules, I will, as long as I send that scumbag to hell."

One of the henchmen spoke up. "No, Papi, I am not drugging her again, it will mess her up."

"We won't have to," the boss replied briskly. "She will come with us willingly. After all, she has to help us find her corrupt father, the one who had the nerve to send a king like me to jail."

My hand flew to my mouth, stifling the gasp that threatened to escape. So that was their game—they wanted to use me as bait to lure my father out of hiding. And they had gone so far as to set my home on fire, to ensure I had no choice but to obey.

Fear gripped my heart, but I quickly tamped it down, a new determination blossoming in my chest. I had to escape, I had to find a way out of this nightmare before they could drag me to their lair. Ignoring the burning pain in my feet, I hurried out of the room, rushing down the empty corridor in the opposite direction of their hideout.

I knew not where I was or where I was headed, but I couldn't remain here, couldn't allow myself to be used as a pawn in their sick scheme.

Ignoring the burning pain in my feet, I burst out of the motel corridor, stumbling into the lobby. All eyes turned to me, no doubt taking in my disheveled appearance, but I paid no attention to them. The only thing that mattered was escape.

Spying a taxi waiting just outside, I rushed towards it, shoving the innocent couple who had just exited the vehicle. Tossing myself into the back seat, I shouted at the driver, "Take me to the police station!"

The woman I had shoved unleashed a torrent of curses, "Hey! Watch where you are going, puta, you could have injured me and my man!" but I refused to engage, focused only on putting as much distance between myself and my abductors as possible.

The driver glanced at me skeptically through the rearview mirror. "You better buckle up, miss," he said, before peeling out of the lot.

I craned my neck, watching as Silvia rushed out from the motel, a handgun clutched in her fist, her wild gaze sweeping the area. As the taxi sped away, I ducked down, my heart in my throat.

I was free—truly free, after so many years. But this was not the grand adventure I had planned. No, I had been thrust into a nightmare, a world of mafia dons and dangerous criminals.

Still, I clung to the hope that once I reached the police station, I would finally be safe. Surely the authorities could protect me from the clutches of that vile man and his henchmen.

After several tense minutes, the taxi pulled up to the station, and I flung the door open, stumbling out onto the street. I was about to dash inside when the driver called out.

"Hey, missy! Aren't you forgetting something?" He shouted, his hand outstretched.

I froze, the realization dawning that I had no money to pay the fare. Mustering my most tempting pout, I felt tears spring to my eyes as I approached the man.

"Please, señor," I pleaded, "I have nowhere to go. Those men... they were going to kidnap me. You are my hero—I don't have any money, but if you give me your number, I will be sure my father pays you back."

The driver's stern expression softened, and with a resigned sigh, he waved me off. "Just get going, chica. I'm glad I could help a beauty like you."

Flashing him a grateful smile, I hurried into the station, chest heaving from my desperate run. The officers behind the front desk eyed me curiously until one—a broad-shouldered man with a commanding presence—rushed forward.

"What brings you here, miss?" he asked, his brow furrowed.

I struggled to catch my breath, the words spilling out in a hysterical rush. "I was abducted...by this scary, narcissistic guy with an eyepatch and his goons! They are dangerous, you have to help me!"

The officer's expression shifted, a strange gleam entering his eyes. "You have come to the right place," he murmured, a chilling smile spreading across his lips. "I know who you are talking about, his name is Deangelo Luis Valladares, also known as Scorpion. He is the don of drugs and the most feared mafia in the city, and one of the four fathers."

My blood ran cold as he continued, "He is a runaway lord of the Spanish empire, although it’s impossible to deal with him, no one gets past me." He paused, placing a hand on my shoulder. "But don't worry, I can take care of your problem."

Swallowing heavily, I shook my head. "No, you don't understand. I just want to go home, to my father."

The officer’s smile widened. "Of course. Let me take you there."

He ushered me towards the door, guiding me to a sleek, expensive-looking sports car. As I slipped into the passenger seat, a creeping sense of dread gnawed at my stomach.

The officer started the engine, glancing at me with a sidelong gaze. "Your father's house burned down, remember?" he commented casually. "And you need to call him to know where he is, so here, use my phone."

He held the phone out to me, but as I reached for it, a sudden realization hit me. The doors had locked, trapping me inside. Panic seized me, and I began clawing at the handle, pleading with him to let me go.

But he simply chuckled, pressing a button to dial a number. "Boss, I got her," he reported, his tone spiked with triumph. "She was stupid enough to come right to the police station, just like you thought. I'm bringing her to you now."

My heart jumped into my throat as his words registered, he was working with the very man I had sought to escape. Hot tears streamed down my cheeks as the realization punched me.

"Let me out of here! You are supposed to be a police officer who takes care of the citizens!" I shouted, but my words landed on deaf ears.

Rosita’s POV A sudden flood of ice-cold water splashed on my face, which took my breath for a second, and I gasped, my eyes flying open to the sight of Silvia hovering over me, an empty bucket clutched in her hand. "Rise and shine, Perra," she mocked, stepping aside as a figure approached. Deangelo—the man who I never wanted to see again—knelt before me, his piercing blue eye fixed on my face. I flinched, unable to meet his eye. "If it were up to me, I wouldn't let anyone harm someone as beautiful as you," he murmured, a vicious smile playing on his lips. "But since you are the stubborn type, I'm going to have to break that spirit of yours." He paused, gesturing around the empty, filthy room. "As you have seen, it's impossible to escape me. I own this city, the cops, the authorities—they are all in my pocket. It seems you still have a lot to learn about the world." Leaning closer, he locked eyes with me, his voice hardening. "So, if you try to disobey me again, there is no tel

Rosita’s POV The limousine door opened, and a well-dressed security guard extended his hand to assist me in exiting the limo. As I placed my hand in his, he bestowed me with a charming smile. "Welcome to the perfect prosecutors’ award ceremony. It's an honor to have someone as beautiful as you here," he murmured, his grip tightening temporarily. "Beautiful." But his gesture of courtesy was abruptly cut short as Deangelo appeared from the other side of the limo. The guard immediately released my hand, rushing back to his post beside the red carpet that was swarming with excited reporters and screaming fans. Deangelo's fingers closed around my wrist in a tight grasp, and I felt a tingle shoot down my arm at his touch. He led me down the plush carpet, the flashing cameras, and the admiring crowds; it was completely different from the danger that threatened to consume me. As we reached the grand entrance, Deangelo leaned in close, his breath caressing my ear. Secretly, he poi

I couldn't fathom why she had suddenly fainted—I couldn't very well have her dying on me.The doctor finished his work, carefully tucking the girl's hand back under the blanket. But before he could fully cover her, I snatched the fabric from his grasp, glaring at him."I will handle this," I growled, carefully placing the blanket over her lying body. My gaze lingered on her pale, beautiful face, a frown creasing my brow."Why did she faint?" I demanded, turning to the doctor. "Is she going to be okay?"The man's expression was serious as he met my eye. "Where did you say you knew her from again? Is she another one of your whores? How long have you known her?"I cut him off with a wave of my hand. "Just get to the point, underling."Clearing his throat, the doctor leveled me with a pointed stare. "Um, does she hav

What do you think the other Dons will say when they find out you have been owing me 50 million pesos for years, and you have refused to pay?"I let out an exhausted sigh. "You know my number one rule is never to let strangers into my home," I replied smoothly. "And you, Carlos, are no stranger."His lips twisted into a scowl. "Then you should know why I deserve that money! You are just oppressing me because you are superior to me. You have got to stop this! I worked hard for those building materials, brick by brick!"I couldn't help but laugh, blowing a cloud of smoke into the air. "If you want your money so badly, commoner, you should

I couldn't believe Deangelo had the audacity to spank me—me, a lady of noble birth! The memory of his rough palm against my tender flesh still remained, and I shuddered involuntarily.Silvia's voice jolted me from my trance, and I turned to see the bitch placing a small communication device in my right ear. "This will allow us to guide you to the location you need to make the delivery," she explained.I nodded mutely, and Hugo strode forward, opening the driver's side door with a smirk. "Get in," he commanded.Reluctantly, I climbed into the jeep, moving to sit in the passenger seat. But Hugo's voice stopped me."No, what the hell are you doing? You will be driving, Chica," he said, his brow raised. Rosita’s POV My fingers were slippery on the gun grip, but I held it tight, my glare locked on Fernando. His golden eyes were bloodshot, a mad sparkle in those normally golden orbs. It looked like he wanted to tear me apart and swallow me whole. The way he slowly, deliberately wrapped that leather whip around his right wrist, it was meant to intimidate me, to scare me, but I wouldn't let him. I raised the gun a bit higher, keeping it steady and aimed directly at his chest. "Get out!" I declared, my voice dark and full of unspoken threats. "Get out, or I swear I will shoot you." Fernando raised his left hand, an indirect gesture, and the goons behind him seethed in anger. One of them, a monster with a shaved head, actually foamed at the mouth. "Boss, just say the word, and I will put her down!" he hissed. A grumble cut through the air. "What the hell is going on here?" It was Bruno, I couldn't help but roll my eyes. He pointed a trembling finger at Fernando and his men. "

A wave of dizziness crashed over me, blurring my vision. As my sight cleared, I glanced down at my arm. Medical tubes were connected to my veins, feeding liquids into my system. My entire chest was wrapped in bandages, and memories of the violence I had endured flooded my mind.I looked around, trying to make sense of my surroundings. I was in a moving plane, but it wasn’t my private jet. The interior was unfamiliar, the furnishings thin and down-to-earth. I was in a separate cabin, small and restricted. There was no one around me, no familiar face to offer comfort or explanation.Driven by a desperate need to understand what had happened, I grasped the tube connected to my arm and yanked it free, ignoring the sharp sting as it tore from my skin. The air was sour and filled with the scent of gunpowder and explosives. She paused, a small smile gracing her lips. "There is a lot you don't know about me, little girl. If I could abduct my own husband and torture him, there is no telling what I could do.""I knew you were heartless," Silvia responded, "But not this heartless. What if Deangelo dies because of this? Do you think you would go scot-free if I tell the world that you were the one that murdered him?"Don Vincenzo, who had been pacing impatiently, stopped and walked over to Silvia, his face a mask of irritation. I had been lying there for over twenty-four hours, without food, without water, without any sign of human contact. The room beneath me, the one with Dolores and the awful men, was empty now, an unbearable reminder of my helplessness. The silence in the room was fat, broken only by her heavy breathing. "Um...there is nothing, boss," she finally said, shaking her head. "They all seem clean and untouched." I ran a hand through my hair, frustration chafing at my skin. A wire, a camera… there had to be something. How else could she have anticipated my every move? How else could that evil bitch have slipped through my fingers time and again? "Check the house," I ordered, my jaw thrust out. "Every room, every corner, look for anything out of the ordinary, leave no stone unturned until you find it. Anything that could explain this...this mess." Deangelo's POV I slid down the thick rope, the rough strings biting into my gloved hands, adrenaline pumping through my veins. Landing silently on the trimmed grass, I took in the surroundings, it was a low-priced mansion located in the middle of nowhere, so this was my stepmother’s secret hideout. The courtyard was covered in the warm light of the moon and also external lights. Heavily armed guards patrolled the perimeter, their eyes scanning the darkness with caution. They were well-trained experts, but none of them had spotted me yet. Silvia's voice popped in my earpiece. "Boss, can you clear the courtyard alone? Do you need backup?" I pressed a finger against the earpiece, whispering, "I don't need your help. If I do, I will let you know. Have you forgotten what I'm capable of?" "Sorry, boss. Just… finish the job." she replied. Rosita's POV It had been a week since I arrived back in Mexico City, and each day felt longer than the last. I didn't know how much longer I could endure without seeing Deangelo's face, without hearing his voice, without feeling his touch. Wrapped in the silence of this lavish hotel room, I felt like a prisoner in my own mind, troubled by memories of him and by the fear that something terrible had happened. I curled up on the bed, wrapping my arms around my knees and burying my face in them. Fernando hadn't taken me back to his mansion or to Deangelo's. He had simply lodged me in this private hotel, checking in on me twice a day like a probation officer. During my long hours of isolation, I sometimes sang, a habit from childhood that had always calmed my nerves. A sharp knock echoed through the room, shattering my thoughts. It was a struggle not to break down, to let the grief consume me. I had barely managed to cope with Miguel's death, but this—this was different. The death of Hugo struck at my core, leaving a deep wound in my soul. I wasn't able to protect him, I had promised him, back when he had first joined my team as a naïve teenager. He was like the brother I never had, and now, I was the one who had to bury him. "Boss! Boss! Boss! Are you alright?" Silvia’s voice cut through my thoughts, pulling me back to reality. I lifted the fork to my mouth, the first bite a timid offering to my recovering senses. As I ate, my eyes drifted to the television screen across the room, the news was on. A reporter was talking about Deangelo, her voice a loud babble that I couldn't quite catch. But the images, the poorly drawn police sketch, were plastered all over the screen. I recognized him instantly, despite the artist's unskillfulness and his signature eye patch.
