Eden’s POV

“Yip yip yip.” Adrian’s wolf pup barked at Demetrius. He growled and jumped up and down, nipping at Demetrius’ ankles.

For a moment, everyone was stunned silent. The only sound was Adrian’s wolf pup yelping and growling. It was Demetrius who broke the stunned silence. He let out a laugh, a loud guttural laugh as he threw his head back.

“What the fuck?” he laughed. Adrian growled and lunged at his calf. He bit him, hard. Demetrius kicked him off his leg.

Adrian went soaring backwards through the air. Thud. He landed in the sand.

“Are you fucking serious?” Demetrius laughed again. Some of his guards joined in. Adrian got right back up and ran at Demetrius again. This time, Demetrius bent down and scooped him up before he could bite Demetrius again.

Demetrius held him by the scruff of his neck. His legs flailed wildly in the air and he growled.

I was still sitting on the sand, with Caleb’s dead head in my lap. Astrid was kneeling beside me. Storm and Lucia were a few feet away

Eden’s POVWhat the?!It took me a moment to understand what was happening. One moment, Demetrius had been pulling on my leash. The next? There was a silver knife protruding from his stomach.Murietta’s eyes locked on to mine from behind Demetrius. She smiled. There must have been a knife in Storm’s suit jacket, I realized. Of course there was. It was Storm! He was always prepared. He’d never try a plan like this without some sort of weapon. He’d given his jacket to Murietta after she shifted back to human form on the beach. She must have found the knife and…I was shocked. Murietta had just stabbed Demetrius. I didn’t think she had it in her. But clearly, she did.Demetrius spat and gargled. His eyes were wide. He blinked a few times. He clutched at his stomach and looked at me, confused. Before anyone could even react, Murietta withdrew the knife. It made a squishy sound as it pulled back through his body.Demetrius’ expression changed. He realized that he’d just been stabbed, and t

Eden’s POV“Demetrius’ reign of wrath is over,” Murietta said calmly to the guards. “I will be taking over the position as the head of the Santonio Family. And things are going to CHANGE around here.”I watched, amazed, as Murietta addressed the guards. The guards side-eyed one another, unsure of how to respond. But then, one of them took to his knee. He bowed his head as a show of respect to Murietta. The others soon followed, until each and every one of them was on their knee, head bowed.Murietta nodded. She seemed like a completely different person. She was confident and serene. I wondered how long she’d dreamed of this day.“Take his corpse back to the gala. Wait for me in the main room. I’ll give further instructions when I arrive.”The guards got to their feet and picked up Demetrius’ bloody corpse. They had changed their loyalty in the blink of an eye. They were now loyal to Murietta. Had they seen this coming? Preempted this change in authority? They seemed grateful. A couple

Eden’s POVThe war. Skylar and his army were attacking packs all over our boundaries. His ultimate goal was to defeat Zane and crown himself Alpha King.“I know all about the war,” Murietta said. “Demetrius was funding Skylar’s army. That will stop immediately. From now on, YOU have the full support of the Santonio family.” “Really?” I asked. That would help a lot. I’d been worried that our warriors were outnumbered and out-weaponed. But if Murietta was going to switch support to our side, then we had a much better chance.“Yes. I will try to seize Alpha Sylar and Scarlett tonight. But I fear they’ve probably already left, even though Scarlett was in pretty rough shape after our fight. I’m sure they’ll run as soon as they see Demetrius’ corpse. I’m not worried about it, though. I’ll catch up to them. I know where their palace is,” Murietta told me.She really HAD thought this all through.“What would you like me to do with them once I catch them?” she asked.I thought about

Zane’s POV“Lucinda,” Callie said dryly.Lucinda waltzed further into the cave. Callie just eyed her calmly. How was she so calm? Lucinda was here. She’d found us! What was she going to do to us? I was still badly injured and Slade was in rough shape. I couldn’t defend myself. Not yet. My heart was hammering in my chest. But Callie? She simply rose to meet Lucinda, her face calm and stoic. She closed her top, wrapping her arms around her chest. How was she not freaking out? Did she know something I didn’t?I assumed this was going to end badly. There was no way Lucinda had just come here for a nice, friendly visit. She’d shapeshifted into a falcon and tried to carry me away to her coven the last time I saw her. But I’d escaped by tossing myself off a cliff. And then Callie had dragged me here, to the safety of the cave.Callie told me herself that Lucinda would be furious at Callie for intervening. So why was Callie so calm?Hate seethed in me. I detested Lucinda. I regretted the da

  • Awakening the Rejected Queen   Chapter 293: Sisters

Zane’s POVI looked back and forth between the two women.Aunty? But then that meant…Lucinda and Callie were….Sisters? My jaw fell open. But I saw it, the faint resemblance. They both had the same wild, wavy hair, although Callie’s was more auburn than red. And they both had freckles over the bridge of their noses. But why hadn’t Callie said anything? Lucinda chuckled then.“I can see by your face that you’re surprised,” Lucinda said to me. “Didn’t Calista tell you?”“You’re sisters?” I asked Callie, feeling a bit betrayed.“Half-sisters, actually,” Lucinda corrected. “Same mother, different father,” Lucinda added. But how? That would mean, Eden’s mom Diane also gave birth to Lucinda? That wasn’t possible though. Diane had been Luna of Silvermist Pack with Alpha Miles.“I don’t understand,” I said, shaking my head. “Diane is your mother, too?”“Yes,” Lucinda said, rolling her eyes. “By blood only, though. That good for nothing wench was a dirty, filthy werewolf. It makes me sick to t

  • Awakening the Rejected Queen   Chapter 294: Unraveling It All

Zane’s POVMy mind spun. I knew that Lucinda was an ancestor of the witch who cursed my family. But I didn’t know she was a direct descendant.I went through the story in my mind.Calista and Lucinda’s mother (Eden’s grandmother) had either fallen in love with a warlock and had an affair, or been raped. When Diane gave birth (to Lucinda), the baby had no werewolf in it. It was witch, through and through. So the father, (Mortimus Black), either stole the baby back in the middle of the night, or Diane begged him to take the baby because she was embarrassed by it because it was wolfless. The baby (Lucinda) ended up with her grandmother, Sullivan Black. Sullivan Black was the head witch of the Falcon Crest Coven, a powerful, large coven. The same coven that had cursed MY family during the werewolf/witch wars.Lucinda had found out that the curse was broken, so she’d tracked me down to reinstate the curse. But only AFTER she got me pregnant, because she’d had a vision of a baby with both w

  • Awakening the Rejected Queen   Chapter 295: Come Now

Zane’s POV“You want me to breed for you,” I said dryly. I knew it was the truth. Witches had no regard for the male species. They respected their own male kind, warlocks, to a certain extent. But they didn’t have mates. They didn’t marry. They didn’t couple.Witches only lived with other female witches, in their covens. They raised their young together. If the child was a female, they kept it in their coven. If it was a male, they sent it off once it was of age.I knew all this now.I think I already knew it, I just hadn’t paid any attention to it. I hadn’t cared about witches at all.I did now.Lucinda’s father had been a warlock. So of course he’d given her to the coven. It was what warlocks did. I had no idea where warlocks lived, or HOW they lived. Were they like our rogues? Living alone in specific areas? Or did they live together too?Did I care? Not really. The only thing that mattered right now was that Lucinda planned on bringing me back to her coven so that she could use me

  • Awakening the Rejected Queen   Chapter 296: Falcon Crest Coven

Zane’s POVI wasn’t sure what to expect. I’d never been to a witch’s coven before. I’d conjured up images in my head of women walking around naked, caked in muddy herb blends, chanting. That was ridiculous, of course. It was probably the same way people who had never seen werewolves assume that all we do is run around in wolf form and howl at the moon. But in any case, I carried a lot witchy stereotypes with me as we walked to the coven. And every single stereotype was dispelled as we crossed the boundary into the Falcon Crest Coven.Beautiful.That was the first word that came to mind.I didn't want it to be, but it was. The coven was absolutely beautiful.“Welcome to our home,” Lucinda said, beaming with pride. And rightfully so. I’d never seen anything like it. There were dirt paths lined with flowers that zigzagged all along the ground. The effect was a colorful symphony of flowers that sort of hit you in the face. The paths led up to a few small structures. They were likened

Eden’s POVEighteen today. How the time flies by! It seems like only yesterday I was lying on the bed, crying in agony as wave after wave of labor crashed over me. She was a difficult birth, Jupiter. But I made it through, of course.Who could have known the woman she would grow into? She is standing in front of the full-length mirror, admiring herself in her new gown. She’s glorious. Soft, pink cheeks and glacier blue eyes, just like Zara’s. She is the best of witches and the best of wolves – a unique hybrid that brings out both in this fluid, magical way.“Aunty Brinsle and Aunty Astrid?” she asked, looking at my reflection standing behind her. “Are they ready?”“Yes, love,” I tell her. “They are both waiting.” There’s a gentle knock on the door, and as if on cue, Brinsle and Astrid enter.“Oh Jupes,” Brinsle says, rushing to her side. “Look at you. All grown up.” Tears well in her eyes and she turns away.“I told you, no tears today,” Jupiter scolds Brinsle. But then she smiles sof

Zane’s POVSometimes, I don’t know who I love more, Eden or Jupiter. What a I saying? I love them equally.I was shocked, of course, the night our baby was born. I couldn’t believe it when Eden said the name, Jupiter. It all came together in that moment. Calista told me that visions always come true. Lucinda has the vision of a young girl born with both wolf and witch, a girl that would rule over both.Lucinda assumed it would be her daughter. She was wrong. It was ours.Eden has witch blood and wolf blood. Jupiter was born with both. She is our daughter and she will one day unite the wolves and the witches. For now, though, she’s just a bright-eyed, mischievous little five year old girl. And she is our world.Brinsle counsels Jupiter on the ways of witches. Sometimes, she takes Jupiter to different covens. The covens welcome her, this little daughter of ours. Astrid is in charge of Jupiter’s wolf training. And of course, Astrid is Jupiter’s god-mother. I know she is in good hands wit

  • Awakening the Rejected Queen   Chapter 408: Epilogue 2 – Adrian and Brinsle

Eden’s POVThe wedding was small but lovely. Zane gave Brinsle away and he was so honored to do so. It was a traditional human wedding, and Brinsle was lovely in her white dress. Adrian was handsome in his traditional human tuxedo. They chose a human wedding because they couldn’t have a werewolf one since Brinsle wasn’t a werewolf and they couldn’t have a witch wedding since Adrian wasn’t a witch. So they chose a human wedding instead. After the ceremony, we all mingled and sipped champagne while the children ran around playing tag on the grassy knoll. I was so happy for Adrian as I watched him great his guests, as was Zane. We both had a soft spot for Adrian and Brinsle. They were family as far as we were concerned. But it hadn’t always been easy. It had been a slow love between Brinsle and Adrian. They were both a bit broken and they both had serious trust issues. Brinsle had a magic that was too powerful for her and a history of lashing out. She had some pretty dark secrets in her

  • Awakening the Rejected Queen   Chapter 407: Epilogue 1 – Lucia and Storm

Eden’s POV“Lucia, how many times I have told you – get off the warrior training grounds!”I giggled. Lucia had a basket in her arms. It was lunch for Storm. I was sure of it. Lucia was notorious for this. She’d just scuttle right out onto the field, a basket full of food for Storm, and completely disrupt his warriors.“But it’s lunch time,” she said, cocking her head to the side.Storm was clearly embarrassed as she shook his head. His warriors smiled slyly. They were used to it. Lucia was a doting wife. She brought Storm lunch every day without fail.I was visiting for our monthly dinner date. Once a month, I made the trek out to see Lucia at her pack, the Santonio Pack. It was a bit of a hike, since her pack boundary was up in the hills. We’d chosen the location because of the view. After spending all those years on the island at the estate, Lucia swore she never wanted to see water ever again. So her pack was built up on the mountain on a flat plateau, surrounded only by tree tops

  • Awakening the Rejected Queen   Chapter 406: A Baby is Born

Eden’s POVI cursed Zane. I cursed sex. I cursed every one in that room and the sun and the moon and anything and everything I could think of. I had known pain in my life, really bad physical pain, but nothing had prepared me for the pain that ripped through my insides every time I had a contraction. We were back in my room. The doctor and several maids were by my side, as well as Astrid and Zane. Those were the only two people I wanted in the room with me. I gritted my teeth and did my best to breathe while contraction after contraction ripped through me. Zane wiped my forehead with cold clothes. Astrid held my hand, even though I was pretty sure I’d broken her fingers with my tight grip.I was only vaguely aware of the time, but I knew it was night.“It’s a long labour,” the doctor said. “I’m sorry, but that’s just the way it goes sometimes.”Outside my window, the guests waited with baited breath. It hadn’t taken long for word to spread right after the crowning that the queen was i

  • Awakening the Rejected Queen   Chapter 405: Eden is Crowned Queen

Eden’s POVI knew we invited a lot of people, but I didn’t really know how many until I saw them all sprawled out there in the garden. Thousands of people, for as far as I could see. Little children waved excitedly as I passed. Little girls giggled and whispered to their mothers:“She’s the most beautiful queen I’ve ever seen.”We walked slowly, through the crowds. I took my time, nodding and smiling as I went along. Everyone smiled back.Once or twice, a strange cramp ran through my stomach and I gripped Astrid’s hand. She looked at me, a worried expression on her face.“Eden, tell me the next time you feel a cramp, okay?” she asked.“Sure,” I said. The walk to the stage took a long time. I was so humbled that this many people had come to see my coronation. Some of them had travelled a very long way. I saw the pile of presents Astrid had commented on. Holy crap was right; it was massive! My eyes swelled. Such generosity from my people.“Oh,” I said, suddenly stopping. It was a cramp

  • Awakening the Rejected Queen   Chapter 404: Coronation Day

Eden’s POVThe sun burst through the window and I bolted out of bed. I was so happy I could sing. It was here, it was finally here! Coronation day!The baby kicked, really hard. I pressed my hand on my stomach.“No no no,” I said. “You be a good girl and stay in there just one more day.” Then I went straight to the washroom to shower.Zane and I had stayed in separate rooms last night. The girls had stayed in my room with me: Astrid, Brinsle, Murietta, Lucia, and Chloe. We’d played silly games and talked late into the night. It had been a perfect evening, with the exception of a few major cramps. It was probably just too much food I told myself. We had, after all, stuffed our faces all night long. The women were still fast asleep when I got out of the shower. I jumped onto the bed and said in a sing-song voice:“Get up! It’s coronation day!”They all groaned. Astrid rolled over sleepily, tossing her arm over her head. “Not yet,” she said.Brinsle sat up immediately, as did Chloe. I’d

Eden’s POVMy mind reeled. A hundred thoughts ripped through my head. My heart and my stomach hurt. There was a baby?A baby with that…witch? But how? Why? This didn’t make any sense. I looked to Brinsle. If anyone would know, besides Zane, it was her. The look on her face said it all – apologetic. There WAS a baby.“Just listen,” Zane said.“You didn’t tell me?” I asked, embarrassed and angry. “You and…her? She’s carrying your baby?”“Eden, please. Just…come with me. Let’s talk.”But I didn’t want to talk. I wanted to run. I wanted to jump back into the lake and swim away again, like I had all those months ago.Had he been unfaithful to me? With a witch? He rushed towards me then and reached for my hand. But I shrugged him off.“I don’t understand,” I said.“So let me explain,” he told me.“Eden?” It was Brinsle. She was suddenly beside me. I felt like the world was spinning. I felt like I was going to be sick. “Just…just hear him out. Okay. It’s not what you think. I promise.”Her e

Eden’s POV“Excuse me?” I asked. The woman stopped in front of us. I was furious. Who the hell did she think she was? This was a private affair! This was an intimate, royal burial for MY mother. What was she talking about?“I’m guessing my invitation got lost in the mail?” the woman asked sardonically. “Zane, Brighton, Alpha so and so, nice to see you all again. Although I wish it were on happier terms.”I let Zane tense beside me. How did she know Brighton? And Zane? And was that my grandfather she was referring to.“What are you doing here?” Zane said, his voice low.“What do you mean?” she asked. “Of course I’m here. You’re burying my sister.”“This is a wolf’s burial. On wolf territory. You’re not welcome here, Lucinda,” Zane hissed.Lucinda?I knew that name. She was the head of the coven, the Falcon Crest Coven. She was the woman who had kept Zane and all the others prisoners. The woman who had personally provided Skylar with the potion for his warriors. What WAS she doing here?
