18 - The body is honest

"What a lovely daughter you have."

A salesman in a supermarket uniform approached them with a stack of leaflets in his hands, slipped one into Hermosa's arms, and snapped, "Would you like to get a membership card? You'll get member prices on certain items."

Brent ignored him.

"Thank you, no." Hermosa could see that the Brent probably didn't want to talk to him, smiled and politely declined before pushing his wheelchair away, only to be stopped again.

"Are you sure you don't want to find out more?"

The salesman said undeterred, taking a leaflet from his pocket and shoving it into Brent's hand as he spoke: "Sir, we have a great deal for members, and ......"

His voice came to a screeching halt.

It was because of the look in Brent's eyes.

It wasn't his first day in the business, and dealing with impatient customers had become an almost daily 'must', but he had never had a customer look at him like that.

It was so gloomy that it reminded him of a bird of prey hovering beneath a dark cloud.
