A Bit More

Kael

The noise outside was deafening, but I understood Kael's gesture indicating that he would explain later. He handed me a large headphone, placing another on himself, providing auditory relief.

“May I take off, Mr. Graham?” the pilot asked, his voice coming through clearly in my ears thanks to the headphones.

“Yes, we can go.” Kael gave the authorization, and soon we were gaining altitude.

I had flown in a helicopter a few times before, but always in the company of my father, who used this mode of transportation for his meetings on the outskirts of the city. This memory brought a touch of melancholy.

Apparently, Kael noticed my change in mood, and he gently held my chin, lifting it so that our gazes met, assessing me tenderly.

“What's wrong?” He asked. “I thought you'd enjoy getting out of the apartment.”

“I did, yes!” I hurriedly spoke. “Helicopter rides are my favorite.”

“I know,” Kael confessed with a smile, and I felt myself melting inside.
