CHAPTER THIRTY-SEVEN

DARIUS

“Darius.” The voice called, and it began to grow stronger, with each second. It grew until it felt like the whole room was echoing with it.

I bit my lip, feeling unsure about everything and everyone I was leaving behind.

I gritted my teeth, and looked at my closed door once more, as the whisper turned into a shrill scream that seemed to bore into my head.

“Darius!”

I lay on the bed, going under the covers, and closed my eyes.

“Here I am.” I replied, and immediately, I seemed to fall from quite a height. I struggled, fighting with my arms and legs, wanting to land safely.

Thudding onto a strong surface, my groan echoed, as I tried to raise myself. I looked around me— darkness.

“Let's get this over with. Whatever it is.” I spat, looking around at the dark abyss.

Slowly, as the darkness dissipated, the whole place began to tear down, coming awash with color.

Beige walls, sunlight streaming in, a large bed, books, portraits, a pair of pink sneakers…
