CHAPTER TWENTY-NINE

HAZEL

I love you.

I love you.

Those words resounded in my head as the breeze blew into the room, billowing the curtains in waves. Looking into Darius' eyes, no one needed to tell me it was the truth. He was sincere.

His hands still holding mine burned, and my gaze fell to his lips, feeling my heart pound in the hollow of my chest. I wanted to kiss him. Even though he had brutally murdered someone, and the dried blood was evident on the face, my heart still moved for him.

He was my mate after all, and I couldn't deny the magnetic attraction I felt for him.

Darius left my hand gently, and rubbed his thumb across my neck.

“You're hurt.” He said, and I winced. It was where that nasty man had bit me.

“It’s nothing. What do we do about your punishment?”

He led me to the bed, ignoring my question, and sat me on it, before moving around the room to get a first-aid box.

Sitting next to me, he opened the box.

“I bet they're so happy, and will start looking for punishm

Fix your mess.”“How is it my mess? I certainly didn't think Darius would be reckless enough to actually murder someone at a place and time as scared as the pre-blood celebration.”“But you started this.”“Yes! Crane shouldn't have undressed her like that. Fine, her hair was rough, but he should have been the one with his chest in the open, and they should have been in a kiss.”“What sensible person would still kiss while the door was still being hit? Are you actually blaming Crane?” Jake asked, turning around from the window, with brows crossed. “You should watch the way you talk. My colleague is dead because of your stupid plan.”“Don't be sentimental. Crane wanted h

CHAPTER THIRTY-ONEDARIUSIt was an uneasy feeling that washed over me, seeing Melissa and Hazel talk from a distance. Hazel looked quite mad, and Melissa looked a little shaken. I strode up to them, and Melissa jumped the moment she noticed my presence. Her eyes flitted around mine, and she turned to Hazel. “I stayed at a friend's house because…oh, Darius.” She was so unnatural with her words. She already saw me, so why did she turn to Hazel, say something stupid, then turn again like she was just noticing me? “Good morning.”My gaze switched to Hazel who looked displeased, but her eyes were downcast. Melissa had done something.“Hazel.” I called. She looked up at me, her troubled green eyes a forest of beauty. “Good morning, Darius.”“Is everything okay?” I asked, and she glanced at Melissa. “She doesn't believe I was harassed.”That didn't seem like the real thing, but still, I turned on Melissa, who smiled uncomfortably. “Well, the… the position they were in, uh, actually. CHAPTER THIRTY-TWODARIUSThe Land Of The Dead.A land that many feared to go to. A call that no one could ignore or resist— a call that only few survived, and amongst the few that survived, many lost their minds, and were never revived. Most of them died. It began as a strange call, one that only the summoned person could hear. The person would then be thrown into the Land Of The Dead, and would be put in slumber. Only the soul would journey across the lands. Any injury inflicted on the soul would be reflected on the body. That was how many died of mysterious wounds. The person would stay, facing whatever problems arose in there, all on their own, and would be unable to receive help, for anyone who veered too close to that person would automatically be dragged in, along with that person. “The Land Of The Dead?” I asked. That was ridiculous. “Why? Why do I merit such a punishment? It's not like I put the werewolf Kingdoms into jeopardy, or went around killing humans in masses.”Kie

CHAPTER THIRTY-THREE DARIUSI looked into Hazel's green eyes, and her hand on my hair slipped off. “Is it going to be a long trip? Tiring?” She asked, and I gave a sigh. Getting to my feet, she stepped back, and I walked to a sofa, patting the space next to me. She sat right where I asked her to sit. “For some reason, you seem a little, uh, sad?” She said, and I leaned back on the sofa, crossing my legs as I watched her. Through her peripheral view, she glanced at me, before clearing her throat. A smile crept up my lips as I saw her ear growing red. Then while she struggled to look everywhere else but my face, I gently placed my index finger in her ear. She jumped as if charged by electricity, and looked at me with wide eyes, and parted lips. It made me laugh, and the tension in the air melted like ice. Her lower lip joined her upper lip in a pout, and she tried not to smile, as she watched me.“You made me think something was wrong. Now, I don't think so.”“Were you worried?” I

CHAPTER THIRTY-FOUR MELISSA I watched as the guards poured out onto the streets, terrifying people as they went in their numbers. They were definitely going to line the borders in preparation for a war. My fingers trembled causing the wine in my cup to tilt. Then, I ran a hand through my hair, sighing. I had to do something fast enough. Whatever Darius' punishment was, it was definitely something strong enough for Alpha Liam to think of attacking. I shuddered, thinking of Jake's words. Two days— I had only two days, else two Kingdoms would attack. It wouldn't be pretty. Walking out of my room, I thrusted my glass into the hands of a maid. The mansion was alive with guards moving up and down, talking in urgent tones, and they bowed when they saw me. “Where's Darius?” I asked one of them.“We weren't informed of his whereabouts, ma'am. I believe you should ask the beta or the gamma.” He replied respectfully, and I stormed off the Darius' room. At least he ought to tell me what his

CHAPTER THIRTY-FIVE HAZEL My fingers drummed on my lips for the one thousand and ‘one-th’ time, and slowly, my lips stretched into a smile. Throwing myself onto my pillows, I kicked the blankets around, giggling to myself. “Gosh.” I threw the covers over my head, and folded my lips. The kiss— it plagued my thoughts all afternoon. I couldn't even do a single thing without it flitting into my mind. It was just too good. I felt I'd be embarrassed, but I actually wanted more. It had awoken a hunger within me, so deep that it felt like a monster rising from slumber. I sat up, my hair falling messily over my face, as I tried to relieve the memory of the kiss. Why was it so good? Was it because he was so good at it? Was it the way his hands touched my body and spread fire all around? Stuff I thought I could never feel, I felt it all in that kiss, and even though it was all moving at a fast pace, the overwhelming feeling was like honey to me. “Come on, Hazel!” I snapped at myself, and g

CHAPTER THIRTY-SIX XANDER I couldn't help it. I had to tell her. Hazel was beautiful no doubt. Looking into her green eyes, it always made me feel calm, and damn, she had beautiful teeth, and those little-heart shaped lips— whenever she pulled them up in a smile, I didn't know why I had the urge to stare. King Darius was well-known for picking the most beautiful ladies to stay by his side, whether for a fling, or an engagement in the case of Melissa, but Hazel was by far the most beautiful. There was just something about her that unraveled me in a way I couldn't comprehend. Her soft skin, beautiful smile, and shy voice. I'd never met someone who understood the power of books the way she easily did. Even as she watched me with those eyes, I longed to tell her more. She was more than beautiful. I wouldn't think of a reason she'd assume her sister, Aurora would be better than her. Lowering my hand from her soft, silky hair, I cleared my throat. ‘Xander, she's Darius'. Don't forget

CHAPTER THIRTY-SEVEN DARIUS “Darius.” The voice called, and it began to grow stronger, with each second. It grew until it felt like the whole room was echoing with it. I bit my lip, feeling unsure about everything and everyone I was leaving behind.I gritted my teeth, and looked at my closed door once more, as the whisper turned into a shrill scream that seemed to bore into my head. “Darius!”I lay on the bed, going under the covers, and closed my eyes. “Here I am.” I replied, and immediately, I seemed to fall from quite a height. I struggled, fighting with my arms and legs, wanting to land safely. Thudding onto a strong surface, my groan echoed, as I tried to raise myself. I looked around me— darkness. “Let's get this over with. Whatever it is.” I spat, looking around at the dark abyss. Slowly, as the darkness dissipated, the whole place began to tear down, coming awash with color.Beige walls, sunlight streaming in, a large bed, books, portraits, a pair of pink sneakers…I f

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY-NINEHAZEL'S POV {One Year Later}I pushed the baby in the cot, hearing him moan and look up at me with twinkling eyes. “Sweet Dennis, you know you want to sleep. Don't give mom a headache. You know I should be with the twins, right? It's their birthday, and you had me with you all day.” I said, touching his cheeks, and he giggled. His giggle— my freedom. After Xander had been banished, and Melissa had been cast into the dungeon, I'd been so traumatized. She'd truly given birth to a baby, but it had been given to Xander. That was the last thing Darius could do to compensate him as a Beta as he sent him off to never return. As for Melissa? She remained in the dungeon. The moment she gave birth to the baby, she hated it. She complained the baby didn't give her freedom and seeing it made her remember Xander whom she painted to be a traitor and a snitch. Staying in the dungeon had broken her and the maids whispered of how she murmurs inaudible words,

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY-EIGHTMELISSA'S POV I yawned, stepping out of the room to get myself something to eat. Perhaps, it was just my intuition, but the house felt strangely quiet. The fridge light reflected on my face as I pulled it open, and I saw that Hazel's food for the day hadn't been given to her. “Are you planning to starve her now that we're going to kill her?” I called out, “Well, good riddance!”My voice bounced back to me in echoes, and I stepped back, “Xander?” My feet crossed the living room quickly to the room he usually slept, and I pushed open the door. He wasn't there. Did he really go to a hotel, or was he down in the basement with Hazel?Turning around, I went straight to the basement, and pushed it open, looking inside as I switched on the light. Hazel wasn't there! It hit me like a bolt of terror. “Xander! Hazel!” I called into the empty basement as if they would reply from some hiding place.“No, no! CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY-SEVENHAZEL’S POV I couldn't believe it when Xander was loosing the ropes from me. I was finally free. My hands were so white, and devoid of blood, completely lifeless. After freeing my legs, he helped me rise to my feet, but I fell back almost immediately. He caught me, and we waited a while for me to be able to regain the feeling in my legs. Walking was strange and difficult after being tied up for so long, but after taking a few steps, I finally began to get the hang of it, my heart pounding in excitement as we left the house. Xander took me in his car to the mansion, and I rubbed my hands in anxiety. I would see my kids. I would see Darius. Night had fallen completely by the time we got to the mansion, and when the guards at the gate saw Xander, they gave a signal, and different guards came out from different angles, surrounding us with weapons trained on us. “Beta Xander, you have been…” A guard began.“I know. I know… just take me to the Kin

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY-SIXXANDER’S POV As Melissa walked past me, my hands balled into a fist, and shook so much that I couldn't even find a way to calm myself. She had crossed the line. She had done way too much. She had said way too much!My chest burned intensely, as a wild heat rampaged around, spreading deep within me, like a fire racing down a forest, burning everything in sight. Damn everything. Damn it all. I wouldn't let her have what she wanted. My baby! She was going to give it to Darius. And then killed Hazel? That was impossible. Yes, I'm mad at Hazel, but I still love her and wouldn't just let her die. The thought ate at me for hours, digging deep inside of me, probing me, disturbing me, until I finally realized I couldn't stay still. Hazel couldn't just die like that. I know it sounds crazy to not want her dead after everything she did to me, but for the sake of the past… perhaps just for the past…I stormed down to the basement where she stayed tied u

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY-FIVE MELISSA’S POV Yes, Three long weeks went past, and my life became so static, and stagnant. Seeing Hazel’s face everyday honestly made me want to puke. At times, I’d meet her praying for her kids, and that would anger me more. She’d become a kind of punching bag for me because I vented my full anger on her whenever I felt like it. As for Xander, I didn’t know how he was doing it. For the time being, there was no trouble even with Darius having the kids, so I guessed all was going well. Perhaps he’d been avoiding Darius, although that was almost impossible and risking. However, how he handled it wasn’t really my problem. The only thing he’d become useful for was pleasing my body’s sexual desires. When he wasn’t doing that, everything else he was doing naturally became annoying. That very morning, I woke with a fever; something that was very rare for me to have. I got up, took some water, but my headache only got worse. Eventually, I crawled back

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY-FOUR DARIUS’ POV {Three Weeks Later}The last three weeks that passed were hectic. Azel was still so closed off, and wouldn’t talk to me. He would not eat, and get me worried so much that I’d have to ask Theresa to find out what he wants, and take care of him so he wouldn’t get sick. Recently, things got worse. Azella, who was the more receptive one suddenly locked herself up, and wouldn’t leave her room. It was what baffled me the most, and caused me sleepless nights. A knock sounded on my door, and Theresa came in, holding Azel, who had a lollipop in his mouth, and a scowl on his face. “Yes?” “You asked for my report. Azella still won’t come out, and keeps crying. She won't let anyone talk to her.” She said, and I pushed aside the hectic work on my desk, with a sigh, before rising to my feet. Damn. My men were all over, looking for Melissa now. She’d simply gone off the grid. Her phone was untrackable. All of her records were blank. How she did

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY-THREE DARIUS’ POV {The Previous Day}My heart stirred as I beheld the two children before me. My kids. Seeing the girl again, my resemblance was present in her shining face. And the boy… he was a combination of me and Hazel. They were really my kids—my heirs. They were… mine. The feeling in my chest felt tight. Like I couldn’t breathe. Just the pain of seeing them so close to me. I’d missed so many important things in their lives. Things I wanted to do with my heirs—take first steps, go out somewhere nice, hear them call my name. The girl smiled happily, her cheeks turning a deep pink as her adorable smile reached her ears. However, the boy had a deep-seated frown on his face, making him look more like me instead of Hazel. I raised my hand, and the guards following all came to stand behind me.“Take the kids in. Give them to Theresa. Food, water, clothes, a bed… give them everything they need.” I said, and they nodded, going to the kids. Azella'

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY-TWOMELISSA'S POV Damn it. I was drunk. She was probably not in her right senses too. The silence was too thick, and my eyes fell on his lips. Firm, smooth, full… like a magnetic attraction, I was drawn to them, and couldn't take my eyes off them. And he made the move. He placed his hand behind my head, and bent to kiss me. It was when his lips touched mine that I knew it—my body ached to be loved. It ached to be wanted, wanted to be remembered. I'd spend so many years aching for Darius who never looked my way that I forgot what my body craved, and needed. My tears dropped as the kiss between me and Xander ran deeper, like we wanted to devour the whole of us, tongues gliding over tongues, over lips. My hands found the hardness of his chest, roaming around it as the feet seemed to pull out from underneath me. I fell against him, and he supported me, since the world was becoming unstable. My fingers ended up ripping his buttons, pulling his shirt

Two malnourished kids on their own for three days. They were dead. What would I do? My hands slowly threaded into my hair. If Darius ever found out…What would be my plan? He would soon realize that I would never ask for anything, and all I wanted was their deaths. What exactly was my plan?My hands fell limply to my sides, and I turned away from my parents, feeling the devastation continue to creep on me, snatching my chest in its iron grip. “Melissa!
