Selene

I stepped into the sitting room, my eyes locked onto Henry's smug face. I couldn't help but feel a surge of annoyance.

"You know, with your constant visits here, one could assume that you're in love with Alex," I said, my voice laced with sarcasm, as I stopped in front of him.

His expression didn't falter. Instead, he let out a low chuckle, his eyes glinting with amusement.

"Wouldn't be such a bad thing," he replied, his voice smooth. "Well, seeing as Alex and I are going to be brothers-in-law soon, there's nothing wrong with bonding with him."

My eyes narrowed. "You and Sarah got engaged?" I asked, trying to keep the shock from my voice.

His smile widened. "Not just that, we'll be getting married in a few months. Something you couldn't achieve."

His words stung, but I refused to let him see my frustration. "You can fool everyone with this charming and kind personality, but you can't fool me." I shot back.

I watched as his brows furrowed, his expression twisting into a scowl. C

AmeliaI sat on the couch, engrossed in a game of blocks with Misty, my giggling daughter. Her bright eyes sparkled as she carefully stacked the colourful cubes, only to knock them down.Just as I was about to rebuild the tower, the door swung open. Misty's head jerked up, her face shining with excitement."Aunty Hayley!" she shrieked, dropping the blocks and launching herself off the couch.I smiled, watching Hayley stride into the room, a warm smile on her face. Her eyes locked onto Misty, and she opened her arms wide."Hey, munchkin!" She exclaimed, sweeping Misty into a tight hug.I rose from the couch, exchanging a warm greeting with her. "Hey, girl! Come on in."Misty wriggled free from Hayley's grasp, tugging on her hand. "Aunty Hayley, play with me!"She laughed, letting Misty pull her toward the scattered blocks. "No, no baby. Not today."I watched as Misty bounced around Hayley, and I gently intervened. "Darling, let your Aunt Hayley settle down first, okay?" I said, smiling

Amelia "Hey Amelia," Charlie said, walking up to me with a warm smile. "I didn't expect to run into you here." "Just hanging out with Hayley and her fiancé," I added, gesturing toward Hayley, who stood beside me.His gaze shifted to Hayley, his eyes narrowing slightly. "Your fiancé is my interior designer?" he asked. She nodded affirmatively still taking in his features. He glanced back at me. "So, what do you think of my new spot?" he asked, his eyes crinkling at the corners."Not bad. It's really good." I said."I'm thinking of setting Amelia up, would you like to participate?" Hayley said cutting into our conversation. He turned to Hayley, raising an eyebrow. "Set her up? You mean blind dates?" "Yeah." She confirmed. He shifted his gaze back to me. "If I had known you were in the market, I would have taken you off the market myself." I scoffed, shaking my head. "Hayley is just being silly." "Don't listen to her. You two would make a beautiful couple.""God Hayley, can you plea

Charlie "Is she in trouble?" "Big trouble." She replied.I let out a low chuckle. "She was just looking out for you. Her words were, don't take her to just any restaurant, you have to take her to the best place in the city. She deserves the best." "She just wanted you to impress me."I smiled, taken by her directness. "Or she just wanted you to be treated like a queen," I added.A blush rose to her cheeks but she quickly looked away. "Alright alright. You don't have to go through the stress of flirting with me. I won't appreciate it, you can save it for... You know, those other girls that are smitten when you flirt with them." She giggled. "But I just saw you blush." I pointed out, my voice low and teasing."When you say something and I blush, it doesn't mean that I am smitten by you.""I know Amelia. I know my charms don't work on you. It intrigues me. I have not met any woman who is not smitten when I look at them. Even those whose hearts belong elsewhere." Her smile faltered

Amelia I lay on my bed, lost in thought when my phone pierced the silence. An unknown number flashed on the screen. My curiosity piqued, and I hesitated for a moment before answering.I waited for the caller to speak first. There was a brief pause before a familiar voice spoke."Amelia?"I recognized the warm, deep tone."Charlie?" I replied, a smile spreading across my face. His chuckle sent a flutter through my chest. "Hey."I settled into the pillows, cradling the phone against my ear. "What's up?""Today's been stressful," He replied, his deep voice weaving through the phone lines. "I needed to hear your voice. How are you doing? And how's Misty?""I'm doing fine and Misty's good too. She's been asking about you nonstop." I paused, recalling her bright smile. "I told her you'd be back soon.""She misses me, huh? That's good. What about her mom? Does she miss me too?"I laughed softly, the sound barely above a whisper. "Sorry, Charlie. You're not exactly on her radar. She's been t

Selene I stood outside Alex's room, my hand gripping the door handle tightly. I peeked inside, hoping to catch his attention. "Alex," I called out softly, my voice barely above a whisper. He didn't respond. "Alex," I called again. This time, he stopped mid-stride, his head cocked in my direction. "What is it, Selene?" he asked, his tone impatient. I took a deep breath. I opened the door wide and stepped into the room. The door creaked shut behind me. "I..." I began, but he cut me off. "I don't have time for whatever it is you're here for," he said brusquely. I felt a surge of frustration mixed with desperation. As I walked towards Alex, I felt a surge of emotion. "Can you at least not talk to me that way?" I asked, my voice trembling. He stood still, his eyes fixed on mine with an unreadable expression. I couldn't help but feel a pang of annoyance. Why did he have to be so impassive? I reached out, my hand settling on his shoulder. And my fingers trailed dow

Alexander "I'll see to it that the documents are ready in the next two hours," my lawyer assured me, his voice confident before the call ended.I leaned back in my leather office chair. A throbbing headache began to pulse in my temples. There was nothing I could do to cancel the merger now. Unless I go to Sarah but I didn't want to get her involved, yet. I instructed my lawyer to draft a contract. I planned on presenting it to Paul tonight at his party. I wasn't invited, but I didn't need an invitation. There was a soft knock on the door, then the door creaked open. "Charlie," I said, excited to see him. I have my plus one for the party. I'm sure he wouldn't say no. "I was in the area, I thought I would come and see you.""You came at the right time. I have a party tonight and I need a plus one.""Man, I'm not really in the mood for parties," he said, shaking his head."Come on, it'll be fun," I coaxed, refusing to take no for an answer. But Charlie's resolve seemed unshakeable

Amelia I stepped out of the restroom, the soft strains of jazz music enveloped me, mingling with the gentle hum of conversation and clinking glasses. Paul's party was in full swing.I made my way to the bar, craving a refreshing sip of champagne. My hand reached for a glass, but my gaze drifted across the room, scanning the crowd. My eyes landed on Paul talking to... Alexander! What was he doing there? Paul said he wouldn't be here. Did he lie to me?I saw Alexander glancing around and I tried to stay hidden from his gaze. I rushed to a curtain nearby and hid behind it. But Paul noticed me. "No need to hide behind that curtain dear. I want to introduce you to someone." Fucking Paul. What was he trying to prove?Dammit, Paul. Why did he have to notice me? Now he's going to drag me out from behind this curtain and parade me in front of Alexander.I peeked through a slit in the curtain, watching as Paul gestured for me to come out. Amelia. 5 years ago. I scrubbed the bar floor, lost in thought when a voice cut through the silence. "Amelia Fray." I lifted my head, eyes scanning the room until they landed on the speaker. My heart skipped a beat. Paul Rodriguez stood before me. "Paul Rodriguez," he introduced himself, extending a hand. I glared, refusing the handshake. "I know who you are," I spat. What was he doing here, in this small Wisconsin town, in the bar where I worked? His smile lingered as his hand dropped back to his side. "I'm a big fan." He said, amused. "You made quite the show before leaving New York. It's been what? Four months? People still remember." I narrowed my eyes. "The bar is over there," I said curtly, gesturing towards the counter. He chuckled. "I'm not here to drink." "What brings you to Willow Creek?" I asked gruffly. His eyes roamed the dimly lit room before settling back on me. "I'm here to see you." His casual tone belied the intensity in his gaze. I sensed an ulterior

Amelia I stood in front of the full-length mirror, barely recognizing the woman staring back at me. The delicate lace of my wedding dress hugged my shoulders, trailing down in soft waves. My heart raced, not from nerves, but from an overwhelming sense of joy. Six months ago, I thought I might lose Alexander forever. But today, he was waiting for me at the end of the aisle, alive, strong, and still mine.“Amelia, you look breathtaking.” My mother’s voice broke through my thoughts as she stepped into the room. Her eyes glistened with unshed tears.“Do you think he’ll like it?” I asked, my voice trembling with a mix of excitement and nervousness. She laughed softly. “Sweetheart, Alexander would be speechless if you showed up in a potato sack. But in this… you’ll take his breath away.”I smiled, blinking away my tears. “Thank you, Mom. For everything. For being here.”She took my hands in hers. “It’s my honour, Amelia. You’ve been through so much but look at you now. Today is about lov

Alexander Two days ago“If my assets are what they want, they can have them,” I said, my voice heavy with frustration. “I won’t be able to live with myself if anything happens to Misty.”“What if they don’t release her after you give them everything?” Sarah asked, her arms crossed as she leaned against the wall.“She’s right,” Charlie added. “What if they… traffic her?”“They won’t. If I give them what they want, she’ll be fine.”“Let’s just call the cops,” Amelia said.“No cops!” I snapped. “I don’t want to upset them.”“Alex, this isn’t a movie. We can’t just keep this to ourselves and hope they don’t harm her.” Charlie added.I dragged my hands through my hair, the pressure in my chest was becoming unbearable. “Fuck!” The word exploded out of me. “I need to think.”I stormed into my study and slammed the door shut behind me. My vision blurred with anger as I stared at the cluttered desk. In a blind fury, I swept everything off it with one angry motion, sending papers, pens, and a

Henry “It’s really working,” I said, unable to hide the hint of disbelief in my voice. My dad smirked. “Of course, it’s working. It’s my plan, Henry. It’s supposed to work. I trust all your doubts have been cleared now?” Selene chimed in, lounging against the wall with a smug grin. “I told you your dad was right. There are three people Alexander loves more than anything: his sister, Amelia, and their daughter.” My dad turned his cold gaze toward her. “I don’t know why you’re still here. Don’t you have something better to do?” Selene straightened. “Henry said it was okay for me to stay.” “Leave her alone, Dad,” I interjected. “She’s helped us. We’re all on the same side here.” “She helped you, not me.” He shot her a disdainful look. “This will all be over soon. What are you planning to do with Amelia?” “The same thing we plan on doing to her daughter.” Selene’s eyes widened slightly. “You’re going to kill both of them?” “Do you have a problem with that?” my dad asked sharply

Alexander “It’s been two days,” Amelia said softly, her voice strained with worry. “The kidnapper hasn’t called. Let’s just go to the cops.”“No, we can’t. If we involve the police, they’ll kill her. We need to play it safe. I’ve already spoken to my lawyer—everything’s ready. We’ll give them what they want and get her back.”Amelia sank onto the edge of the bed. “I just… I wonder how Misty is doing.”“She’s fine,” I said, more to convince myself than her. “And as long as we play by their rules and do exactly what they say, she’ll stay fine.”Amelia looked down. “I hope so. She must hate us right now.”I frowned. “She wouldn’t hate us.”“Really? She said she wanted to come home, and we haven’t brought her home. Of course, she would hate us.”I sighed. “I bet she’s giving them a hard time. You know how stubborn she can be.”We both chuckled. Then Amelia sniffled, almost breaking into tears.“Hey,” I said softly, shaking my head. “Don’t.”Her eyes glistened with fresh tears. “What if i

Alexander My heart clenched as I glanced at Sarah, then at Charlie, who stood stiffly by the window. Amelia was curled up in the armchair, her hands twisting the hem of her sweater, and her tear-streaked face buried in her knees.I was barely holding it together. My fists clenched at my sides as the police officer in the room delivered his report. “Henry is no longer a suspect,” he muttered. “What?” We said in unison, shock etched on our faces.“He came down to the station voluntarily this morning. We questioned him, and his alibi checked out. So we had to let him go.” The room fell into stunned silence. My pulse pounded in my ears, drowning out whatever he said next. “You let him go?” I snapped. The officer straightened slightly, his eyes narrowing as I took a step toward him. “You’re telling me that you just let him walk out? Are you serious?”“Mr. Smith,” the officer began. “There was no evidence—”“I don’t give a damn about the evidence!” I shouted. “Henry did this! He took

Henry I watched as Selene walked in, her sharp eyes darting around, taking in the space. “Is this where you live now, Henry?” she asked, as she glanced at the cluttered shelves and dim lighting. I sighed, already regretting my decision to bring her here. “Don’t make me regret this.” She shrugged. “Fine, fine. I was just admiring your… man cave.” Her gaze swept the room again before landing on me. “So, where are the bugs?” I pointed to the small workstation set up near the wall. “Over here. I’ve got enough.” She walked over, and the moment her eyes landed on the equipment, she let out a low whistle. “Holy shit. This feels like one of those mafia movies.” “Mafias don’t use bugs, Selene,” I said, shaking my head. “Yeah? Well, maybe we’re like the FBI then. Or the CIA.” She grinned, clearly enjoying herself. I levelled her with a look. “We’re just regular people, okay? Let’s not get carried away.” Her attention shifted to the table where a few guns were laid out. She pointed to

Amelia “We shouldn’t be out here, Hay,” I muttered.“Come on,” Hayley said, brushing off my concern. “Misty wanted to come here. Besides, you guys have been cooped up inside for days now.”“I told Alexander we’d stay at your house,” I said, glancing around nervously.“It’s only going to be a couple of minutes. Let Misty enjoy a little freedom. Look at her.” Hayley gestured toward Misty, who was laughing and playing with the other kids. “She’s so happy. We’ll be out of here soon.”I followed her gaze and saw Misty chasing a ball with a wide grin on her face. My heart softened just a little. “I guess you’re right,” I admitted.“Amelia,” Hayley whispered, nudging me.“What?” I asked, looking at her.“Look at that hot dad over there,” her voice was barely audible.“Hayley, stop it. You have Daniel,” I said, rolling my eyes.“That doesn’t mean I can’t appreciate a hot, sexy man when I see one,” she replied with a sly smile.I chuckled, shaking my head, and turned away. My fingers brushed her cheek as I pulled back. “How was your night?”She raised a brow. “You mean after you kept me awake for hours working on my body?”A chuckle rumbled from my chest as I propped myself up on my elbow. “I call that productive use of time.”“Productive?” she repeated, rolling her eyes dramatically. “You’ve got quite the definition of productivity, Alexander.”I reached out, wrapping an arm around her waist and pulling her back down onto the bed. She squealed in protest, but her laughter betrayed her enjoyment.“You didn’t seem to mind last night,” I teased, my lips brushing against her ear.Her cheeks flushed. “You’re impossible, you know that?”“And yet, here you are,” I said, smirking as I tigh

I just wasn’t paying attention.”I pulled back slightly, holding her by the shoulders. “I knew that son of a bitch was up to something,” I muttered. She sighed and moved past me to sit on the couch. “I wish I wasn’t so blinded by love.”“Has he been found?” I asked, walking over to sit beside her. “Do they know where he is?”Sarah shook her head. “I don’t know. Alexander has people looking for him.”“So, they don’t know where he is,” I said flatly.“Yeah,” she confirmed. “All I know is that he’s out there somewhere, and I just hope Alexander’s people find him.”“What…” I hesitated for a moment, then asked. “what will Alex do to him when he finds him?”“I don’t know.
