Amelia

He left!

I sighed feeling a sting of rejection. Of course, he would leave. What was I thinking? That he would actually want me?

Sarah entered the kitchen, her worried look caught my attention. I could sense something was wrong with her.

"I suppose we'll have to take charge of roasting the chicken," Sarah said, sliding the already-seasoned chicken into the oven. "What do you think?"

"About?" I asked, seeking clarification.

"The chicken!" She specified, "How spicy do you think it would turn out?"

"I don't know," I said, shaking my head. Still noticing the worried expression on her face. "Are you okay, Sarah?"

She attempted a smile, but it seemed strained. "Why wouldn't I be? What makes you think I'm not? I'm fine, Amelia."

I pressed on, sensing something was off. "The phone calls and you look concerned. What's going on?"

Sarah brushed it off, her tone a bit too casual. "Just work stuff. A client needed a piece of my artwork, but it's all taken care of now."
