Amelia
"This place is a castle," I groaned under my breath as I walked helplessly around the house. I was lost and had no idea where I was headed. Finally, a lady who seemed to be working there, dressed in a crisp black dress with a white apron and white cap walked past me. I greeted her with a friendly "Hello!" and she turned around to face me, her eyes meeting mine. "I'm…uh…" I wasn't really sure what to say to her. I just stared at her feeling lost. How do I tell her I was married to Mr Smith and need to find his room? I blushed scarlet as the word married rang in my head. "Do you maybe.." I started to say, but my words trailed off as the sound of approaching footsteps made me hesitate. As the footsteps drew nearer, their cologne wafted through the air, filling my nostrils. It was a familiar scent. I turned my head to look over my shoulder, my eyes locking onto the figure behind me. "Mr. Smith… Alexander," I whispered, as I took in the sight of him standing there. "Go on, Isabel," he said curtly. The lady quickly bowed her head and exited the place. Mr Alexander shrugged, barely glancing at me as he ordered me to follow him. I felt a tingling sensation travel down my spine as we made our way to his room. I was anxious to know the outcome of his conversation with his grandfather. The question burned on my lips and I blurted out before I could stop myself. "Why did you lie about being the father of my child?" He continued walking like I hadn't spoken to him. Not even a flinch to acknowledge my question. Don't you hear me talking to you! I screamed inwardly. You arrogant, rude, pompous… handsome… sexy…my thoughts trailed off course. I shook my head, ridding myself of those nasty thoughts. We passed through a series of rooms until he finally halted in front of a door. As it swung open, my mouth fell open. The sight before me was breathtaking and I couldn't help but gasp in amazement. "Take a look through the closet, there are clothes there for you," He said, pointing towards the walk-in closet. "See if there's anything that doesn't suit your taste, while I take my bath." With a nod, I walked towards the closet, unsure of what to expect. The thought of sharing a room with Mr Smith… no, Alexander, made me blush like a teenager. I opened the wardrobe and was amazed by the stunning collection of designer clothes inside. His clothes were arranged in a colour-coded pattern on the right side of the closet. While different designs of feminine wear graced to other end. My hands traced the dresses dangling from the hangers. Wow. I've never seen someone own this many clothes. And they are for me? I picked one and checked the tag. Chanel. I heard a clicking sound and hund the dress back, hurrying out of the closet. Just to see him step out of the bathroom. My gaze wandered down his naked body, taking in the droplets of water that trickled from his wet hair, tracing the contours of his abs, and disappearing into the towel draped around his waist. I swallowed hard. He seemed utterly unbothered by my gaze, his eyes fixed on mine as he approached me with a steady stride. I was paralyzed, unable to look away or move, my feet rooted to the spot. As he drew closer, I tried to step back, but my legs wouldn't cooperate, and I stumbled, colliding with an object behind me that I hadn't seen before. Just as I felt myself losing balance, he swiftly caught me, his arms encircling me in a firm embrace. My body leaned into his, and I was struck by the chill of his skin, sending shivers down my spine. I stopped breathing. It was as if time had suspended itself, like a scene from a movie, and all that existed was the two of us. My mind raced with raunchy thoughts of him, wondering what it would be like to feel his lips on mine. He had the perfect lips. "Are you okay?" his words broke the spell, and the world snapped back into focus forcing me to gasp for air. "Ye... yes," I stuttered, clearing my throat and hastily straightening up. I turned back to the closet and picked a nightgown. I hurried to the bathroom and shut the door. As I stood in the bathroom, trying to collect my thoughts, I couldn't shake off the feeling of his embrace. After a warm bath, I emerged from the bathroom and was met with the sight of Mr Alexander sleeping on the bed, his body relaxed and his head resting on his left shoulder. I walked towards the bed, uncertain of what to do. I was torn between lying down beside him on the bed or retreating to the floor. I stood there with my eyes fixed on the floor. "What are you doing?" His gruff voice startled me. I spun around, my heart skipping a beat, "Nothing, just...just wondering where you want me." He raised an eyebrow, "Don't be silly," he said with a low voice. "Come lie down on the bed, there's plenty of room." It was as if he knew my dilemma. With a nod, I obliged, my body sinking into the softness of the bed with my back towards him. I let out a deep breath, as I relaxed, my eyelids grew heavy, and I soon drifted off to sleep. ******** My eyes fluttered open to a bright and sunny morning. I stretched and turned to my side, expecting to see Alexander's face. But the bed was empty, and he was nowhere to be seen. I heard a gentle knock at the door, followed by a brief pause and then another knock. The person knocking was clearly seeking entry. "Come in," I invited, and the door opened to reveal a familiar face - the lady I saw last night when I was lost. "Isabel," I said, greeting her with a warm smile. I remembered the name Alexander had called her. "Good morning, ma'am, What would you like to have for breakfast." "Breakfast," I mumbled under my breath. My eyes wandered away from hers, darting all over the place. I’ve never had someone ask me what I wanted for breakfast, except Hailey. But hers didn't count. Unsure of what I wanted, my gaze fell on her, pleading, "I'll have whatever it is you have in mind." Her face softened and she smiled, nodding in understanding before she left. A short while after, the door creaked open. I sat up expecting breakfast, but instead, a woman I had never laid eyes on before entered the room. She carried a tray in her hand, its contents hidden beneath a cover. She was dressed too polished to be a servant. "Hi Amelia," She said with a sly grin on her face. She walked towards me with the tray in hand and set it on the bed beside me. She was beautiful, just like the models you would see on magazine covers. "I know you're probably wondering who I am." Her red lips moved as she spoke. I nodded, too dazed to speak. Her long nails traced my face for a second, taking me in before pulling away. "Oh, darling. I'm your worst nightmare darling." She chuckled before walking away. I sat there in shock, my mind reeling with a single thought. Who the hell was that woman?Alexander "Selene, when did you arrive?" I questioned behind her, startling her. “What are you doing standing here?”"Oh, come on. Just because you have that wrench in there doesn't mean I can't go in," She pulled away from my bedroom door and sauntered towards me.I stepped out of her reach. "Your presence here is solely because of my grandfather, Selene. I trust you understand your position," I stated firmly."Where did you pick her from?” she sneered, her voice laced with malice. “Sorry let me rephrase that. Which slump did you pick her from?"I don't have to entertain her bickering with any response. I had important things to take care of. Oh, but I had time to play along, today."I believe Daniel will keep you busy enough to stay out of my business," I responded, my lips barely moving as I spoke. My words seemed to rattle her badly. She lunged at me, her fingers inches away from scratching my face. I grabbed her hands and held them down. My face gave none of my emotions away."I
Amelia "He..." I tried to speak, to cry out for help, but I couldn't, only strained sounds escaped my lips. My throat felt lodged by the obstruction blocking it.I was feeling helpless, trapped in my own body. My vision blurred, as darkness stood only inches away from claiming me. My lungs burned, starved of oxygen.I felt hard blows on my back for a brief moment and his frantic cries. Then suddenly, his arms were wrapped below my chest, pushing. "Miss Fray! Open your mouth!"I coughed, spewing the cause of my discomfort on the floor. Air rushed in and I drank it hungrily. Tears flooded my eyes as relief washed over me. “You gave me a scare, just now.” His voice was calm now. But his breathing betrayed him.My vision cleared and I could see Mr Alexander's face. "Are you okay?" He asked nonchalantly. If I hadn’t seen the fear in his eyes, I would have believed his act."Thank you," I managed to squeeze out, trembling as I realized what would have happened if he wasn't close by.Hi
Amelia My heart pounded in my ears."What are you talking about? What happened to mum? Where is she?" I questioned"I don't know. She just... She just collapsed," Ella answered, breaking down in sobs.I shot out of the bed in panic. But Alexander’s hand grabbed me and held me back. He was like a rock, not moving, not talking. Just standing there, holding onto my hand.I took a deep breath. "Where are you?" I asked, my mind racing with different thoughts.“I… I'm as…” Her words were difficult to understand. “Ella, I can't understand what you are saying. I need to know where you are?”"I'm at… the hospital. The doctor… said…he…" she sniffled."Okay, okay, I'm on my way," I said, trying to get out of bed, the second time. He made no effort to stop me. "Which hospital is she at?""St. Mary's," Ella replied, her voice cracking. That was the hospital she visited for her checkups. "Alright, I'll be there soon. Try to stay calm,""Okay," she whispered, still sobbing.I quickly ended the cal
Amelia "William?" I choked out the name. The sound of his name on my lips was like a dagger ripping my heart to shreds, a painful reminder that left me reeling. I slid into the car, and Mr Alexander settled in beside me. "Drive to the airport," Mr Alexander said curtly, "Miss Fray, look at me." I lifted my gaze to meet his, pain evident in my eyes. Why would he want to do this to me? After what he saw at the hotel. "You must keep your pregnancy a secret from William, do you understand me?" I nodded my head in agreement, my mind racing with the daunting prospect of seeing William again. I wasn't ready to confront him again, not after all the things he said to me. A tear slid down my eye. We were back in New York before I knew it. My mind was still on my mother. I picked up my phone and quickly texted Ella; I left to sort some things out. I'll be back before you know it. Love you, sis. "We're here, sir," The driver informed. I peeled my eyes away from my phone at the sound
Amelia I held my phone to my ear, distracted by the clothes I was packing for my trip home. Hayley's voice came through, concerned and caring. "How's your mom doing?" "She's doing better," I replied absent-mindedly, my focus on the clothes. “Ella said the doctors are positive she would recover fine.” "Ella? You're not with your mom?" Her question snapped me back to attention. I had forgotten to tell her. With the back-and-forth travel and my late-night visit to the warehouse, I had dosed off immediately when I saw a bed. "Uh, I'm actually in New York City right now. Something came up." "What are you doing here?" She asked. I paused, fighting the urge within me. "I came back yesterday to get my things,” I lied. “But I'll be heading back home in a few minutes." "Oh, I see. I'll come with you then," her tone was casual, almost nonchalant. My heart pumped with excitement. I've missed my best friend and I wanted to see her. "You want to come to Wisconsin with me?" I asked
Chapter 12Amelia "How... how did this happen?" She stammered, her voice trembling with emotion. "You're married? And pregnant? Without me knowing?" "I know it's a lot to take in, but please just listen." I pleaded. She shook her head, "I can't believe you would keep this from me, Amelia. Your own mother. You're supposed to set an example for your little sister.""It happened so fast mom, we fell in love and then got married in court. It wasn't a big wedding." That was a big lie. I was lying to her in her face. But what other choice do I have?“You're not married by a priest! Oh, Amelia… what did I do to deserve this?”Oh, my! I've messed up big time. I didn't intend to reveal anything about the wedding. But my nerves are getting the best of me.“Mum, we plan to have a big white wedding,” I continued my lie, trying to salvage the situation. “With you and Ella present, before the Lord. But we're waiting for you to get better, Mum.”I could feel Hayley's burning gaze on me. But I ign
Alexander I sat in my office, lost in the stacks of papers and files on my desk. The shrill ring of my phone broke the silence, I glanced at the screen, and a wide grin spread across my face as I saw the name "Charles" flashing back at me."Hey, man," I greeted as soon as I answered."How are you doing married man?" Charles teased at the other end of the phone.I chuckled, leaning back in my chair, It's been one month since I married Mia and Charles still teased me about it. Well, I decided to join in the fun. "Still dealing with your superstar girlfriend's diva antics or has she finally learned to tolerate you?" I teased back. The laughter on the other end of the line was infectious, and I could almost see Charles' grin through the phone. "Oh, I've missed you so much, man!" he exclaimed, his voice still chuckling, "Get your ass to the club later, we've got some serious catching up to do!"Charles, my best friend, was one to party. I wouldn't be surprised if that was the reason for
Selene My eyes fluttered open, and I found myself lying in the back seat of a car, my mind foggy and my memories hazy. But one image stood out clearly - Alex, rushing to my aid.A soft smile spread across my lips as I whispered to myself, "My knight in shining armour."The car came to a stop, and Alex opened the door, gently pulling me out. My legs faltered, still weakened by the alcohol, and Alex swiftly lifted me into his arms, cradling me like a child. I wrapped my arms around his neck, holding tight and sniffing it.A subtle smile spread across my face as I gazed at him, taking in the chiselled features of his striking face. His handsome appearance was undeniable. And for the first time, I saw his face soften, not the cold demeanour he usually reserved for me. Like he had been harbouring a grudge against me. Like I had wronged him in a past life. I was lost in thought, my mind reeling as I stared at him, My thoughts were a jumbled mess as I stared at him. The next thing I knew,
