Amelia
The Chalet Hotel was like a second home to me. It was our meeting spot—Williams and I. I had suggested the place after he told me that he still lived with his grandmother. That should have been a red flag to me. A thirty-two years old man, living with his granny. Now I just found out that was a lie. What else has he been lying about? The hotel was a ten-minute drive from my apartment. I highlighted from the cab and walked into the lobby. The butler gave me a nod, acknowledging me. My frequent visits to this place have made me familiar with the staff. I walked over to the desk. “Miss Fray, good day,” the receptionist greeted with a smile. “He is waiting for you. The usual room.” I nodded my thanks and took the elevator, heading to the third floor. I didn't know what I was doing here but I knew I wanted to see him. I wanted him to look me in the face and lie to me, tell me they forced him to do it. That he isn't married. The elevator pinged, and I headed straight to the room. I gave a light tap on the door and in seconds, the door flew open. “Amelia, get in!” his eyes darted across the hallway suspiciously before roughly, pulling me in. His hands frisked my body as his eyes roamed over my body. “Did you come alone?” Prompted by my silence, he repeated the question, louder this time. “Did you come alone, you bitch?! I asked you a fucking question!” “Yes.” “How did you do it then?” he was closer now, his hands underneath my shirt, searching. “They just let you go like that? Are you wearing a wire?” I pushed him away. “You're drunk, Williams,” I said, spying the empty bottles scattered on the table. “Why did you call me?” “I heard you were out and I didn't believe it. I wanted to see for myself.” he slurred. “I gave them everything they needed to keep you behind bars for a long time. Why would they let you walk away just like that?” My heart ached at his words. It felt like a stab to my chest. “You framed me,” I whispered, barely able to keep my tears at bay. “You stole from the company and framed me for it…you're married all this time, cheating on your wife and leading me on. How could you be so wicked?” He laughed drunkenly, “You're wicked, Amelia… teasing me and playing hard to get. You were supposed to be nothing but a plaything. My side piece. But you had to be stubborn, talking about your values and how you wanted to be loved. You were a piece of work, bitch, and the perfect scapegoat,” he belched loudly, tainting the air with a foul smell. “I can see the headline ‘A small town girl, blinded by New York’s glitz was found guilty of embezzling company’s funds.” “You're wicked,” I cried, utterly shocked by the vile words spewing from his mouth. “You said the words back; you said you loved me. Did you even think about my mother? Her health?” “Made up lies, by a perfectly good actress here,” he staggered towards me, gripping my waist tightly towards him. “Did you think I would fall for your story, bitch? It felt more like a role play to me.” I put my hands on his chest, trying to push him away. My effort made no dent, as he pulled me closer, grinding his crotch on my legs. His breath made me nauseous. “You'll pay for this…I promise you,” I replied, ignoring the snort running down my nose as I struggled to free myself from his embrace. He smirked, pushing me roughly over the bed. Pain shot across my belly as I landed heavily on my back. The door burst open right on time and Mr Alexander strode in, accompanied by two hefty men. He pulled a dazed William off my body and his fist swiftly connected with William’s nose. A loud crack, followed by William bellowing filled the still room. “Take him away,” Alexander ordered, his face was an unreadable mask. I stared, stunned as the two men who had followed Alexander pulled a bleeding William out of the room. How did he know where I was? Had he planted a tracker on me? The car! I sat up, pulling my skirt down to preserve whatever dignity I had left. He turned his back to me, giving me space. Alexander was a perfect gentleman and in his presence, I felt like a whore for hire. He has saved me twice in one day. The least I can do is be grateful. “Thank you,” I muttered. “What are you doing here?” he demanded, his back still facing me. “I don't know,” I whispered, hating myself for sounding helpless. “I think…I thought he would apologize. That he would tell me it was all a big misunderstanding.” He turned sharply on his feet. His emerald eyes blazing as he stared at me. “Did you get what you came looking for?” “Mmm…hmmm” I replied, shaking my head. “I'll say this and say it once only,” his voice was cold, sending chills down my body. “Though our marriage may be unconventional, you are still my wife. You work as my wife, you've an image to uphold as my wife. No sneaking around to meet up with ex-lovers as my wife! You'll do your job well or find yourself back in that prison cell faster than you can blink. Do you understand me, Miss Fray?” I nodded, refusing to make a fool of myself by letting my voice crack. “That's not an answer.” I cleared my throat. “Yes.” “Good. You're driving with me to the house. Whatever you need will be provided for you and your stuff will be sent over.” “Mr Alexander,” I called softly, halting him in his tracks. He muttered under his breath, cocked his head in my direction, his eyes cold. “Miss Fray?” My eyes dropped to the floor as I fought the urge to tell the truth. I swallowed hard, trying to find my voice. “Amelia,” his voice impatient. “Do you have something to say?” I blurted out before I could stop myself. “I'm pregnant.”AlexanderMotherfucking Christ!I turned sharply towards the not-so-innocent girl I had chosen. Her gloomy face infuriated me the more. But I wasn't going to let her see how her words had rattled me."What did you just say?" I asked calmly. I needed to hear her say it again."I'm pregnant," Amelia repeated, her voice barely audible.I raked my fingers through my perfectly cut hair. “And you're telling me now? What happened to that knowledge when you agreed to be my wife?”"I... I was scared. I… I found out before I was arrested," she stuttered as she tried to speak.I glared at her, my mind racing with different thoughts. How do I play this to my advantage? Fuck! Fuck!! Fuck!!!Inhaling deeply, I took a menacing step towards her and she retreated in response until she was backed against the wall. Her eyes glistened with unshed tears. But that wasn't going to faze me. “I… I'm sorry, Mr Smith,” she trembled lightly. Goosebumps attacked her arm and my hand subconsciously caressed it.“A
Amelia "This place is a castle," I groaned under my breath as I walked helplessly around the house. I was lost and had no idea where I was headed. Finally, a lady who seemed to be working there, dressed in a crisp black dress with a white apron and white cap walked past me.I greeted her with a friendly "Hello!" and she turned around to face me, her eyes meeting mine."I'm…uh…" I wasn't really sure what to say to her. I just stared at her feeling lost. How do I tell her I was married to Mr Smith and need to find his room? I blushed scarlet as the word married rang in my head."Do you maybe.." I started to say, but my words trailed off as the sound of approaching footsteps made me hesitate. As the footsteps drew nearer, their cologne wafted through the air, filling my nostrils. It was a familiar scent. I turned my head to look over my shoulder, my eyes locking onto the figure behind me. "Mr. Smith… Alexander," I whispered, as I took in the sight of him standing there."Go on, Isabel
Alexander "Selene, when did you arrive?" I questioned behind her, startling her. “What are you doing standing here?”"Oh, come on. Just because you have that wrench in there doesn't mean I can't go in," She pulled away from my bedroom door and sauntered towards me.I stepped out of her reach. "Your presence here is solely because of my grandfather, Selene. I trust you understand your position," I stated firmly."Where did you pick her from?” she sneered, her voice laced with malice. “Sorry let me rephrase that. Which slump did you pick her from?"I don't have to entertain her bickering with any response. I had important things to take care of. Oh, but I had time to play along, today."I believe Daniel will keep you busy enough to stay out of my business," I responded, my lips barely moving as I spoke. My words seemed to rattle her badly. She lunged at me, her fingers inches away from scratching my face. I grabbed her hands and held them down. My face gave none of my emotions away."I
Amelia "He..." I tried to speak, to cry out for help, but I couldn't, only strained sounds escaped my lips. My throat felt lodged by the obstruction blocking it.I was feeling helpless, trapped in my own body. My vision blurred, as darkness stood only inches away from claiming me. My lungs burned, starved of oxygen.I felt hard blows on my back for a brief moment and his frantic cries. Then suddenly, his arms were wrapped below my chest, pushing. "Miss Fray! Open your mouth!"I coughed, spewing the cause of my discomfort on the floor. Air rushed in and I drank it hungrily. Tears flooded my eyes as relief washed over me. “You gave me a scare, just now.” His voice was calm now. But his breathing betrayed him.My vision cleared and I could see Mr Alexander's face. "Are you okay?" He asked nonchalantly. If I hadn’t seen the fear in his eyes, I would have believed his act."Thank you," I managed to squeeze out, trembling as I realized what would have happened if he wasn't close by.Hi
Amelia My heart pounded in my ears."What are you talking about? What happened to mum? Where is she?" I questioned"I don't know. She just... She just collapsed," Ella answered, breaking down in sobs.I shot out of the bed in panic. But Alexander’s hand grabbed me and held me back. He was like a rock, not moving, not talking. Just standing there, holding onto my hand.I took a deep breath. "Where are you?" I asked, my mind racing with different thoughts.“I… I'm as…” Her words were difficult to understand. “Ella, I can't understand what you are saying. I need to know where you are?”"I'm at… the hospital. The doctor… said…he…" she sniffled."Okay, okay, I'm on my way," I said, trying to get out of bed, the second time. He made no effort to stop me. "Which hospital is she at?""St. Mary's," Ella replied, her voice cracking. That was the hospital she visited for her checkups. "Alright, I'll be there soon. Try to stay calm,""Okay," she whispered, still sobbing.I quickly ended the cal
Amelia "William?" I choked out the name. The sound of his name on my lips was like a dagger ripping my heart to shreds, a painful reminder that left me reeling. I slid into the car, and Mr Alexander settled in beside me. "Drive to the airport," Mr Alexander said curtly, "Miss Fray, look at me." I lifted my gaze to meet his, pain evident in my eyes. Why would he want to do this to me? After what he saw at the hotel. "You must keep your pregnancy a secret from William, do you understand me?" I nodded my head in agreement, my mind racing with the daunting prospect of seeing William again. I wasn't ready to confront him again, not after all the things he said to me. A tear slid down my eye. We were back in New York before I knew it. My mind was still on my mother. I picked up my phone and quickly texted Ella; I left to sort some things out. I'll be back before you know it. Love you, sis. "We're here, sir," The driver informed. I peeled my eyes away from my phone at the sound
Amelia I held my phone to my ear, distracted by the clothes I was packing for my trip home. Hayley's voice came through, concerned and caring. "How's your mom doing?" "She's doing better," I replied absent-mindedly, my focus on the clothes. “Ella said the doctors are positive she would recover fine.” "Ella? You're not with your mom?" Her question snapped me back to attention. I had forgotten to tell her. With the back-and-forth travel and my late-night visit to the warehouse, I had dosed off immediately when I saw a bed. "Uh, I'm actually in New York City right now. Something came up." "What are you doing here?" She asked. I paused, fighting the urge within me. "I came back yesterday to get my things,” I lied. “But I'll be heading back home in a few minutes." "Oh, I see. I'll come with you then," her tone was casual, almost nonchalant. My heart pumped with excitement. I've missed my best friend and I wanted to see her. "You want to come to Wisconsin with me?" I asked
Chapter 12Amelia "How... how did this happen?" She stammered, her voice trembling with emotion. "You're married? And pregnant? Without me knowing?" "I know it's a lot to take in, but please just listen." I pleaded. She shook her head, "I can't believe you would keep this from me, Amelia. Your own mother. You're supposed to set an example for your little sister.""It happened so fast mom, we fell in love and then got married in court. It wasn't a big wedding." That was a big lie. I was lying to her in her face. But what other choice do I have?“You're not married by a priest! Oh, Amelia… what did I do to deserve this?”Oh, my! I've messed up big time. I didn't intend to reveal anything about the wedding. But my nerves are getting the best of me.“Mum, we plan to have a big white wedding,” I continued my lie, trying to salvage the situation. “With you and Ella present, before the Lord. But we're waiting for you to get better, Mum.”I could feel Hayley's burning gaze on me. But I ign
