Erica felt like she was in a perpetual bad mood for the past three days. She had taken Luna's warning to heart but felt so unsatisfied.
As she was about to turn around a corner in school to go to the library to find Luna, she heard two familiar voices that made her stop in her tracks.
"What exactly is that cream you gave to Rina? It worked wonders! There's not even a mark left on her arm!"
"I have my resources."
"Can't you at least give me a hint?"
"Why should I make things easy for you?"
"Heartless."
"Grow up."
Victor continued whining and bothering Lucas to no avail.
/Some miracle cream huh… I wonder how it'd fare against my creation. Too bad I'll never find out./ Just as she took a step forward, Victor changed the topic to something that made her stop again.
"Hey hey, before you go, I just want to know if the families' downfall is all your doing?"
Lucas must have nodded because Victor followed up with another question. "Why?"
"They were the ones responsible for Rina's state the last time."
"What? It wasn't just one girl?"
"It's not even the girl you're thinking of." Lucas said in an especially dry tone. His patience was definitely being tested at this point.
"What? Ugh... Man, as much as I hate to admit it, you're really good… I still don't like how my old man keeps telling me to learn from you though." Victor sounded incredibly displeased.
Erica's opinion of Lucas raised a little again. Nonetheless, a frown still formed on her face. /If only he wasn't enamoured by Rina just like every other guy./
She smoothed out her expression before finally coming out from behind the corner. The boys' attention was drawn to her but she kept her head held up high and back straight while she walked past them to get to the library.
Right after she passed by, Victor spoke in a volume that was obviously meant for her to hear, "I still don't like that girl though. She rubs me the wrong way. Did you know she called Rina useless? Who does she think she is? A jealous wannabe like her could never measure up to even Rina's toenail."
Erica's eyes bulged in anger and she gritted her teeth hard. She clenched her fist and turned her head back to stare daggers at Victor.
Lucas stared at Erica then turned his attention back on Victor. "Look. I won't control your flapping mouth but don't come looking for my help if trouble finds you because of it." Lucas walked off clearly fed up with Victor.
"Hey-" Victor's voice got caught in his throat as his eyes met Erica's hateful gaze. He humphed, tugged on his blazer, then walked off.
/I can't believe I once liked him. What exactly did I see in him?/ She continued to stand alone by the library entrance trying to compose her feelings before she went to find Luna.
Unfortunately, no matter how hard she tried, she found that she could not calm herself down. She simply could not take an insult lying down. She made up her mind to get her revenge and make Victor regret what he said of her.
This time, she knew that she had to be extra careful. She did not want her dear sister to get dragged into her ploy only to get hurt again.
Around 3 months later, unpleasant rumours about Victor ran rampant throughout the student body, causing his reputation and popularity to crash. He was now known as a playboy, flirt, and sex maniac, yet someone who is unjustly possessive and controlling of Rina.
This made Victor completely stressed out as he was used to having things within the palm of his hand. His angry outbursts and testy attitude that were a result of his stress only served to worsen his situation.
When Rina tried to defuse the rumours, it fueled the rumours that he was a controlling individual. It also created a new rumour that Victor was really just a cowardly person who was willing to sacrifice the innocent weak lamb to save his face.
The trio was now gathered in a private discussion room of the library.
Victor looked like he could explode in anger at any time. It was a look that everyone was used to seeing him with by now. Rina sat beside him looking sad and pitiful with her teary eyes. Lucas stood by the door near to Rina and was the only one looking annoyed.
"What should we do now?" Rina asked worriedly.
"We? I told you that you did not need to do anything! That I'll handle it! You just had to go and make things worse! Are you happy now?!"
Tears left Rina's eyes. "How can I be? I was only trying to help! I couldn't bear seeing you like this!"
"You'd help by not doing anything!"
Lucas's eyebrows drew even closer together than it had already been. "Hey, watch it."
"There must be something I can do?" Rina continued to ask.
"No! There isn't! You're useless!"
Rina gasped in shock, while Lucas punched Victor squarely in his jaw.
Victor was completely knocked off the chair. He fell to the floor then brought his hand to cover his mouth. Feeling a sharp pain when he touched his mouth, he looked at his hand to find blood on it. He looked at Lucas with a mix of anger and shock.
"I warned you." Lucas growled.
Lucas's undisguised anger made him regain his senses and he quickly realised what he had just done to Rina. He instantly got up on his knees to hug the sobbing Rina. "I'm so sorry, so so sorry. I didn't mean that. You're definitely not useless. I'm the one who's useless. I couldn't fight these rumours on my own and I even hurt you now."
Once Rina stopped crying, he asked her to stay away from him for the time being since he was afraid of hurting her again in his anger.
Although Lucas did not like the way Victor chose to push Rina away, he left it up to Rina who obviously ended up listening to Victor.
To their dismay, news about what went down in the discussion room traveled. As private as the discussion room was supposed to be, the walls have ears.
Not long later, rumours about Rina began floating around too.
Coupled with the discussion room gossip, there was gossip about how Rina was getting increasingly close and chummy with Lucas now that she had to stay away from Victor. This earned her the ire of Lucas's silent fans and secret admirers.
Rina eventually earned a reputation of being a bitch and a slut who only knew who to charm and seduce boys into giving her things she needs. This led to an increasing number of all kinds of harassers who had their individual agenda for harassing her.
Meanwhile, Erica was happily humming to herself in her room while she prepared for bed. While Victor and Rina were suffering, she had stayed on the sidelines happily watching everything go down the whole time.
Everything was going perfectly.
Erica had really done nothing much besides doing some digging into their lives, altering some information and doctoring some images, before letting those slip to some people in school. With some truth mixed in with the lies and a little bit of story weaving, what was created became the truth.
The scary thing about human's memory is that it is not perfect. One can simply suggest that something believable happened and the involved party can end up believing it themselves, especially when there was something else to back it up.
The speed at which people changed their opinions from one extreme to another did impress and scare Erica. What she took comfort in was the fact that it all worked out in her favour in the end.
Luna passed by Erica's room with an empty cup in her hand. She stretched her back that was stiff from sitting for so long, however she still had a long night ahead of her.
Her ears perked up when she heard Erica's happy humming, drawing her attention to Erica's equally happy expression. She did not know why but the sight of Erica's happy expression instantly reminded her of Lucas.
Recently, Lucas looked anything but happy and relaxed. Since Lucas had the habit to do all his work in the library, Luna was privy to everything he did there unbeknownst to him.
She sighed lightly. She really hated to spoil Erica's mood but she simply had to confirm her suspicions, so she knocked on Erica's door.
"Jie? What's up?" Erica asked chirpily while bounding to her. She looked down at Luna's empty cup and her expression fell a little. "Working late into the night again? You should at least rest on some days... You don't even have tuition anymore."
Luna smiled a little and reassured Erica, "Nothing that I'm not used to. I'm fine. Anyway, you seem really happy. Is there something up?"
"Hm? It's nothing much, times are just good now. Isn't it?" Erica smiled a little unnaturally. She was clearly trying to hide something.
"I hope it has nothing to do with Victor and Rina. Or does it?" Luna continued to probe with a small smile.
Erica's smile froze on her face then slowly dropped. "That's not fair, Jie Jie..." Erica pouted. "Fine, I am behind all the rumours and gossip but all I did was spark a little something. Everything else ran by itself. It's totally fine. Can't you just be happy for me already? I clearly won this round."
Luna looked apologetic and put her hand on Erica's head to stroke it. It looked a little weird since Luna was shorter than Erica but none of them felt that way.
"Erica, your plan is perfect, you did everything perfectly, and I really hate to be a jinx or a spoilsport but it's still too early to say that you've won this round."
"Why?" Erica looked at her with puppy dog eyes.
Luna sighed and retrieved her hand. She then explained with a little exasperation. "It's Lucas. Lucas is still in the picture."
"What's he got to do with this? He didn't step in when Victor got bashed up so badly. If he cared about Rina enough, he would have helped Victor out, because Victor getting hurt would hurt Rina, isn't it?"
Luna shook her head slightly. "As long as Lucas is involved, you won't be able to bring them down. Victor, Rina, and Lucas are meant to flourish in this school. They'll win, hands down. If you want to ruin them, at least wait until all of us graduate safely. Maybe when the world expands, there'll be stronger parties coming into play and the story would change. You have to be patient."
Erica frowned deeply. "Why're they meant to flourish? What story are you talking about? Why are you saying things that I don't understand?"
A still silence hung in the air.
Suddenly, Erica's phone rang and made them both jump in shock.
Erica went to check her phone and frowned when she did not recognise the number. Not long after she rejected the call, a notification sounded, informing her that she received a text message.
"I could ignore it when it's Victor since he brought it upon himself. Your mistake was touching Rina when she did nothing to deserve this. It's time to settle the score. For the previous incident in the canteen too."
Luna noticed Erica's pale face so walked forward and took the phone from her to read the message.
Erica simply stood there frozen in shock. /How was I found out? How?/
Suddenly, she felt arms wrapping around her. "Jie Jie… What will he do…? What should I do…?" Erica had been confident that she would not be found out so her brain stalled.
"I'll take over from here. You don't have to worry."
"But... How...? Actually, no. Don't get yourself involved. I don't want you getting hurt because of me again. I created this mess. I'll clean it up myself."
Luna calmly responded, "I may not be much. I may not have any strengths. But let me be your older sister, okay? Will you trust me?"
Now that Luna said it like that, Erica could not find it in her to reject Luna's help. She pursed her lips and hugged Luna tight. "Please, just don't end up sacrificing yourself for me?"
Luna squeezed her tighter in response without giving her a proper reply. She had a feeling that if she let things be, Erica would only end up like the canon fodder she read about in fictional stories. /I won't let you get reduced to that./
The next day, everyone in school heard the news that something big would go down in the hall after school, including the three siblings who just walked through the school gate. Before they parted ways to head to their individual faculties, Desmond turned to his sisters and ruffled their hair. "You girls stay safe and contact me if anything goes wrong, okay? I'll be here in a jiffy."Out of concern for Luna, Erica had told Desmond of everything that happened while they were in the car on the way to school. The two sisters nodded their heads with a smile on their faces. Erica's smile was brighter and more carefree while Luna's was much more reserved.Straight after class ended, Erica exited her classroom to find Luna outside standing by the wall and reading a book. Nobody paid her any attention. Erica asked her friends to wait then went to Luna."Jie? What're you doing here?" Erica asked with a slight tilt to her head."I'm takin
A month later, things returned back to normal.Victor's and Rina's reputation was restored and everyone knew by now that they had Lucas backing them up.Erica's friends made up with her, which was not a very hard thing to do since they had stopped throwing when Erica ran into the hall calling out to Luna as her sister.Desmond's life did not change much since the military academy, although essentially is another faculty of the school, has its own war zone which functioned almost separately from the other faculties. He has already successfully made his own connections there, who then helped to cover for him when he came to his sisters' aid.Luna experienced a little dissing and occasional harassment but it never got too bad because she seemed to kill their vibe each time. Not only did she have a very slack expression on all the time, she also knew the right things to say to satisfy their ego.Luna was now in the library as usual, compl
The days passed by uneventfully.Since Victor no longer tried to hunt Luna down in school, she could return to peacefully studying in the library once more. Although Luna could come up with several possible reasons for Victor's behaviour, she believed that it was no mere coincidence that he would suddenly be so obedient now.The same private investigator from before was hired to follow Erica again. The reports she received this time were very normal. Unlike before, nothing stood out to Luna. Erica went to classes in the morning, then went for her extra curricular activities or hung out with her friends after class. Like Desmond, Erica was doing a good job at establishing the contacts they may need in the future.Luna glanced at her laptop and books in front of her. Compared to her siblings, she already had her hands full with just her studies. As such, the only times she could attempt at networking was during class and group works. However, it was never successf
When Luna regained consciousness, she blinked her eyes slowly several times. Her mind felt a little foggy and her body felt incredibly light. This weightless feeling was a little unnerving but nice at the same time. She saw an endless stretch of darkness in front of her that could have made the fears of any claustrophobic person act up. If not for the faint glow of her body, she would have doubted if her eyes were even open./This... Looks like I'm finally dead huh…/[For the moment you are.] A very deep voice suddenly reverberated through the entire area and her core. Her shoulders jumped in shock and she looked around repeatedly but could not find the source of the voice.[Do you wish to live?] The same deep voice asked her.Luna remained speechless for a while. /Is this God?/Before she could ask anything, he replied.[No, but I am an entity beyond your under
Stifling heat and stuffiness suffocated her the moment she regained consciousness. A thick smell of sandalwood all around made it even harder to breathe. It did not help that the breaths she took were already shallow and weak. Luna tried to open her eyes, but found that it took significant effort before her eyelids finally lifted. Ugly dark yellow draperies and a wooden bed frame was all that she could see. It took awhile for her to register that it resembled the top of a traditional Chinese bed frame. /What in the world… What happened? What's happening? Am I dying again? Where am I?/ As if in response to her questions, she experienced a migraine attack that was so painful it made her nauseous. At the same time, memories and knowledge that were not hers flashed before her eyes. Everything she saw was from the eyes of a girl named Chen Xinyi. Xinyi was the only child of the second concubine to a high-ranking court offici
There were books on plants, poison, martial arts, and spiritual cultivation. The only thing in this world that had piqued her curiosity and interest was the existence of spiritual energy. It was something that could be cultivated and was mixed in with martial arts. Something that her original world did not have. One's spiritual energy was classified into four realms. There was Earth, Sky, Heaven, and God realm. Each realm was then divided further into three levels that signified how well they have assimilated their spiritual energy into their martial arts. It consists of low, mid, and high levels. An average person could practice and cultivate their way to high level sky realm by 15 years old. Whoever progressed beyond that would be considered talents and geniuses. Since normal martial artists without any spiritual energy were basically powerless in this world, people who could not cultivate were considered wastes. Xinyi was one of those wastes in society, du
A fluctuation in the air caused a handful of people to look up from eating or pause their conversations. However, many resumed what they were doing, unbothered by the slight oddity. "What happened?" Hui Shan asked the boys, who had also been disturbed. Wang Wei passed the question to ZhangYong to answer by looking at him. Zhang Yong was the highest level among them, so he could provide the most accurate answer. "Did someone high level appear?" Hui Shan enthusiastically guessed in a hushed voice. Zhang Yong shook his head. "It's just a breakthrough, and only into Sky realm." Hui Shan relaxed, but Wang Wei and Zhang Yong stayed pensive. "Hui Shan, do you know anyone invited who's around 12 years old?" "En, but from what I know, they've all broken through to Sky realm already." As soon as she answered the question, she caught on to their worry and so contemplated along with them. / Was this person a late bloomer or a genius? /
Xinyi spent the rest of the evening and night reflecting on and reading up about the use of spiritual power, cultivation practices, and martial arts. What she found was that with enough skill, one would be able to cultivate all the time. However, the optimal state for cultivating was still by meditating. There was nothing about spiritual power that she did not already know. It was, however, noteworthy to her that there was a caution to not be restricted in their thinking, because not all spiritual power uses were documented. Family secret arts existed and it was possible for people to create new uses everyday. Suddenly, a memory about a story she had read when she was still alive got refreshed in her mind. That story had spiritual people but also spiritual beasts and spiritual plants. /How did I forget about this?/ Xinyi closed the book and rushed back to her courtyard. She then dug out 6 small pots from the tool shed and plan
RenRan began napping. A lot. Souls did not need sleep, but they could choose to do so. FanHai was one of those who seemed to never catch a wink of sleep. While RenRan slept, he stayed by her side, always keeping himself busy with something. This carried on for a good time before she began to catch him with his guard lowered after waking up. ‘A while more.’ RenRan did not believe that a man like him could keep himself entertained this long and resist a cat nap with her. At this point, BaoBao cried out in frustration. There were a few times she could have slipped away because he had already fallen asleep with her! He even dared to cuddle with her. That spot was only reserved for two people! Him and the familiar soul! “Is it really too much to assist by waking her up?” He challenged the elder one. “Is it so hard for her to stay awake in a world that doesn’t need sleep?” He challenged BaoBao back. “...That’s easy for you to say.” Then, BaoBao puffed his cheeks and returned to gl
RenRan’s eyes opened wide. No matter how hard she pushed against him or how much she pounded his chest, shoulders, or head, he persisted on. She tried to bite him, but he avoided using his tongue and skillfully moved his mouth in tandem with her attempts. With his hand cupping the back of her head, she could not break the kiss either. She was at his complete mercy. ‘I should have dropped the act earlier. This isn’t worth it!’ Fear slowly gripped her heart as she wondered how far he would take it. Then, he stopped, just as suddenly as he started. “Enough?” He grinned and meaningfully applied greater pressure on her lower back. His move made RenRan conscious of the rock hard member against her abdomen. Immediately recognising what it was, she fiercely pushed against his chest and demanded, “Okay, let me go! I’ll properly spend some time with you first!” He smiled with satisfaction. “Like I thought.” Then, he let her go. “You wouldn’t have to waste so much time and energy if you jus
RenRan’s heart jumped but she poised herself promptly, ready to grapple with whoever had manhandled her. “Why’d you run away from me? Didn't we have deal?” The somewhat familiar deep voice cleared up the situation. “I’m not running from you.” RenRan explained as she attempted to pull her arm out of his strong grip. “You know you can’t lie with this within us.” He pointed at his chest and kept on his tight smile. “You got to try harder than that to convince me.” RenRan frowned. “And I was precisely following that to find you, as agreed.” His smile gradually disappeared as his gaze dropped to study her entire body. “…You’re weaker than the last time I saw you.” RenRan had nothing to say in response. Instead, she attempted to twist her arm free again. “Even so, I’ve never heard of a compass malfunctioning because of this before.” Annoyed with his accusations, RenRan tuned in
RenRan headed for a condensed group of swirling sparkles that was just a little larger than her. ‘So, my mission is to achieve my dream no matter the cost. What’s my dream? To find YingTao? No, I’ll definitely find him. It’s just a matter of time. Then, I’ll find out that YingTao doesn’t want me anymore. And I’ll want him back...’ RenRan thought of everything that had happened in RenRan’s life. ‘I can only hope that her dream’s that simple...’ She began to think of all her misdemeanors, then ways to right her wrongs. [I should stop you right there. If it wasn’t clear enough before, as long as you’re in the story scenes, you’re supposed to do and say all the things the original character did.] ‘What? You didn’t say that earlier.’ [I mentioned earlier that it's risky to provoke this world’s consciousness into doing anything. So, we can only observe this world. What do you think this mea
Luna was right. She had inhabited Luo RenRan’s body. RenRan’s family belonged to the working class, but her gripe was not their standard of living, it was her parents’ favourtism for her brothers. She was the only girl, and she was the oldest. Anything her brothers did, she was responsible for. Any wrong they committed, they were let off with a more lenient punishment, while she was supposed to forgive and forget. Their expectations for her and the restrictions they imposed on her could not be compared to the standards they held her brothers against. The only solace she had was that her siblings never directly crossed her line, even when she was old enough to start working. If only it stayed that way forever. “RenRan... Forgive your brother, okay? You know he only took it because he needed it and only you can help him. If you have someone you need to blame, blame your father.” A gentle motherly voice coaxed her. “If your father helped, none of us would be
“Wh- What am I doing here?” BaoBao looked around in shock. He recognised this place. The last time he was here, it was to defend Luna. “Why am I back here?”The elder one sighed. “Why did you do it?”“D- Do what?”Gasps were heard around him.“It lies.”“It truly deceives.”“Surely, that’s bad.”“This can’t go on.”“It’s always this one system.”“Clearly there’s something wrong with it.”All the administration looked at the elder one, waiting for the go ahead. The elder one looked at BaoBao so intensely as if BaoBao was a specimen under his microscope. BaoBao gulped. He felt exposed. What was with this elder one? Whatever the case, Luna had already been sent to the next world. He could not dilly dall
“Don’t ignore me! I know you’re awake!” Someone pushed Luna’s shoulder hard. Her eyes flew open, and a purple and black galaxy unfolded before her. Her bottom left whatever she had been sitting on, but she did not fall. There was a resistance that made her body glide instead. Luna blinked a few times, stunned. "I dare you to say it again.” The same voice challenged her. Luna turned towards the source. There it was again. The sensation when she moved was familiar. However, she had no time to make sense of it. The deep voice belonged to a burly woman, instead of a man like Luna had assumed, not that it made anything better. Her guest looked as friendly as a starving lioness. Luna straightened her neat celestial-like robes while she quickly collected her thoughts. It shimmered and shone brighter than the glow emanating from her body. The fabric was so silky to touch that it was like water. Although it was transluc
“LUNA!” BaoBao jumped onto her. Luna grunted from the impact. It reminded her of how much he had grown from the first time she met him. ‘How is he so weightless but so heavy at the same time?’ “Hi BaoBao,” she laughed lightly, “Is this your new way of sending me to the next world?” “Huh?! No, no! It’s far too soon to be sending you to the next world, isn’t it?!” Luna laughed even more. “I was just teasing.” BaoBao blinked innocently. “Oh.” Luna looked at him endearingly. “You’re still so much like a kid.” She rubbed the top of his head lovingly. “Don’t systems live for eternity, if nothing goes wrong?” “Mmhm, what about it?” “It still felt that long to you?” “YES!” BaoBao confirmed without a second thought. Luna laughed. “Let’s spend some time together before heading to the next world.” BaoBao’s heart warmed and h
Nozomi closed her eyes and thought hard about his request. It did not feel right or good to take his years, but she had no right to dictate how he should live his life.‘Since he’s really fine with it...’Nozomi pushed her hands forward to cup his cheeks. “Okay...”Hikaru’s eyes brightened up. He promptly retrieved his book and readied himself. Nozomi watched Hikaru activate his magic with interest. The way his book’s ribbon splits and transforms into a robe and staff never got old. “Thank you, for going along with my wishes.” His heartfelt gratitude was reflected in his eyes as well. Nozomi smiled in understanding and squeezed his hands that were once again holding onto hers. Hikaru closed his eyes and focused on her presence, then said the incantation that he had memorised by then.Green glowing vine marks appeared
