"Hold up, are you really Lord Vlad? What's with the way you're behaving? You're creeping me out." Raven said with a slightly disturbed look on her face.
He frowned and looked at her sharply. "Got a problem?"
Raven relaxed now that he was speaking in the familiar ice cold tone. "I wouldn't have one if you gave me your title of demon lord as well. Why would I only want your duties?"
"You can have it for all I care." He said dismissively, then turned his attention back on Vanora.
"You'd have to die." She raised an eyebrow as she stated the obvious.
"Feel free to try." He casually remarked while placing his arm around Vanora's shoulders, but he found his arm going through air instead. Vanora had disappeared from her spot, faster than anyone could blink. He turned around and found Raven entangled with Vanora a safe distance away from him. Anger bubbled up inside him. The whites of his eyes to turned black. She dared to insult him by stealing his girl from right under his nose. She also had her dirty paws all over Vanora.
Raven stood behind Vanora like she was holding Vanora hostage. Her right hand framed Vanora's face and tilted her face towards hers. Her left arm circled around Vanora's waist. /So she's the reason behind Lord Vlad's recent behaviour./
"Let. Her. Go." The slow command that was filled with the threat of death interrupted her time with Vanora. Her body involuntarily obliged. She had barely gotten to to study Vanora's face. What surprised her more was that this was the first time Vlad used this power on her. She never did anything that warranted it, that was until now. She had underestimated the significance of this girl.
/Shi-/ Before she could properly form a thought, she received a punch to her gut, then to her face. Teeth flew out. She skidded across the ground and coughed up blood. Her cheek swelled up fast. She looked up to find Vlad staring down at her with a look that could kill. /This aura... I can't move. He has grown stronger!/
"I'm only sparing your life this time because we're long time acquaintances. Try this again and you'll lose your sorry life."
Vlad wrapped his arm around Vanora's shoulder like he had intended to from the beginning, then faded from sight. At the same time, the colours and hell beings returned to the surroundings. The hell beings around Raven jumped away in shock, forming a clear circle around her. They gawked at the bloody and sorry state she was in. How did the vampire whom they witnessed thrashing angels after angels just a moment earlier, get so badly injured? Who did it? Was it friend or foe? However, no one dared to approach her, much less ask, for she was known to be unfriendly and hostile.
/I really fucked up. I overstepped my boundaries this time./ Raven thought to herself sullenly.
Just as she thought of leaving, a devilishly attractive succubus fearlessly went up to her.
"I heard someone mention Lord Vlad's name earlier. Is there any news of him?" Her big and bright hopeful eyes were well framed with thick and lush lashes. However, her looks did not help her case with Raven.
/It's that desperate fool./ Raven was not afraid to show her thoughts on her face. For as long as she could remember this succubus, she was always hanging around Vlad or staying in his vicinity. Her goal was clear for anyone to see. Even Vlad would have been able to tell, if only he paid her any attention. Knowing Vlad, it was mere wishful thinking on the succubus' part, especially now that he had that hell fire girl by his side.
Raven got up then headed away from the crowd.
"Raven?" The succubus prompted again.
"I don't know." She replied curtly.
"You didn't ask them about Lord Vlad?" Disappointment was clear in her voice.
Raven's veins bulged and she clenched her jaw. /She's useful in this war. She's still useful. Don't kill her./
"Then who were they?"
"I don't know." This time, the restraint Raven showed was obvious enough for the surrounding hell beings to take a step or more back.
"How could you not know?"
When Raven did not reply anymore, the succubus frowned. Thinking that something was fishy and that Raven could be hiding something, she hounded Raven. "It was them who made you like this, right? They must be really strong. They could be connected to Lord Vlad in some way, you know?" Understanding that this was a provocation, the hell beings took another step back. The succubus' love and obsession with Vlad made her blind and reckless. However, her questions were to their benefit. So, they eagerly watched on for entertainment.
Raven glared at her and her hand flew to the succubus' throat too fast for her to react. A thin red line stretched across the succubus' neck and a trickle of blood left the wound. "Watch your mouth. Know your place." When the succubus failed to respond, Raven further threatened, "Or do you want your face rearranged?"
The succubus' senses returned to her and she shook her head.
Raven peeled her eyes away from the succubus. She would love to teach her a lesson and vent her anger, but it would be wiser to leave that for after the holy war. With how temperamental and volatile Vlad was, he could abandon the war again. After a few steps into the cluster of trees, Raven disappeared into the shadows.
After Raven disappeared from sight, the succubus openly sulked. She lost her only lead. Vlad was her ideal man. Her dream guy. Her Prince Charming. She sorely missed his presence. Whenever he was around, her eyes would only follow him. When he was absent, he seemed to take the colours of the world away with him. No amount of attention showered on her by some other guy, hell being or human, could give her the same feeling. No amount of being loved, affectionately or passionately, could stop her from fantasizing about being in Vlad's arms instead. She just had to have him.
Meanwhile, Vanora was back in the bathroom of the inn, while Vlad was temporarily away from the establishment like usual. BaoBao had always updated her of Vlad's whereabouts, so she knew that Vlad had been sourcing her clothes and food elsewhere. However, that was all she knew, even after so long.
Recalling the way Raven held her made her hair stand on its ends. She rubbed her arms to calm herself down. /That was faaaar too close for comfort. Who'd have expected that?/
[Vanora, I'm a little concerned about something...]
/What is it, BaoBao?/
[If I predict future events according to your assumption that events in the book WILL happen, one way or another... With the way things are going now, wouldn't Raven and Rosa clash with you instead of Angela?]
/He could still be avoiding the area wherever Angela is fighting at. After all, we haven't met her, right?/
[Ah! That's true. So you're saying the plot will still progress as it is?]
/Mm./
[Alright then!] BaoBao decided to trust in Vanora's judgement. [But... Please, still be wary, okay?] He still could not shake off the feeling that his predictions gave him.
Vanora smiled forlornly. The way BaoBao trusted her but still worried about her reminded Vanora of her family. /I will./
Vanora got out of the bath and got dressed in the fresh new clothes provided for her. While they ate, it was decided that they would continue the day without sleep. It required some pushing from Vanora. Vlad eventually gave in because of her recent good behaviour. Vanora suspected that there was also another factor at play. Even though she was not looking at him, he was within her peripheral vision, so she caught him fidgeting every now and then as though he was uncomfortable. This has been going on from the moment they returned to the inn.
When she was almost done eating, he finally opened up his mouth to ask her sheepishly, "Are you not going to say anything about me being the Lord Vlad I told you about?"
"What's there to say?" She replied flatly.
"Isn't it lame and disappointing that someone like me turned out to be the mighty cold and menacing Lord Vlad?" He smiled wryly.
"Yeah, you're lame alright. Disappointing too." She replied dispassionately. However, it was enough of a blow for Vlad. His heart dropped. His face fell. He had never been bothered by what others thought of him. It was simply easier for him to act according to their wishes and expectations, than have everyone question if he was sound in his mind and answer all the other speculations they would have. It was also fun to be able to do whatever he wanted under a disguise. He never knew that he could feel as insecure as he did in this very moment. He did not even have the presence of mind now to reflect on why her opinion of him mattered so much.
Vanora peeked at his crestfallen expression. She grinned a little, then let out a very short and soft laughter that made Vlad wonder if he had hallucinated it. She quickly recovered her flat expression before elaborating, "It's lame of you to toot your own horn."
He recalled the times when he praised "Lord Vlad" to the high heavens and his face turned bright red.
"It's disappointing to know that I'm serving a highly irresponsible demon lord. I wonder if life will be chaotic in the future when the war is over." She pretended to sigh lightly.
He sat up straight as he declared his newfound diligence to Vanora. "Then I'll be as diligent as you are from now on! Don't you worry!"
"Oh? How do you intend to do so?" She asked with an eyebrow raised.
"I'll obediently handle all the administration every morning and lead the army from noon on." He answered seriously.
"Which persona are you going to use to lead the hell beings? As 'Derek'?"
"No longer!" He frowned and pouted. "Enough with 'Derek'. I want to hear your sweet voice calling out my name instead."
[PFFT.] BaoBao barely held back his laugh.
Vanora did not know what was laughable about what Vlad said. To her, his answer was a confirmation that the plot was reverting back to normal where he would lead the army as himself and not as Derek.
"So, Lord Vlad, now that I'm done, shall we get a move on?"
Vlad grinned with satisfaction. He really liked it that she was addressing him by his real name now. "Drop the Lord. Just call me Vlad. Also, since we're on the topic of recovering my identity..." His black hair started turning butter blonde and his red eyes became so black that it was difficult differentiate his pupils from his irises. "This is how I really look."
Vanora blinked twice, unsure about how she should react to it.
[It's only a change of colours! He doesn't look that much different! Since we had to identify him based off the description of a book, I get it if WE didn't recognise him when we first saw him. But how did the people who know him fail to recognise him?]
/Maybe they never really dared to look at him closely when he shows himself as the demon lord. Also, it may be the drastic difference in the way he behaves as 'Derek' that drives others to believe that he "can't be" their demon lord./
[Emotions clouded their perception and judgement?]
/You could say that./
"Vanora? Do you not like how I look?" Vlad prompted.
Vanora realised that she had gotten distracted from reacting to him. "It's fine either way." She added a shrug. She could not help but act a little kinder with how strangely unconfident he sounded.
Vlad smiled wryly. He should have known better than to expect some form of reaction, much less gushing, from Vanora. "I was thinking that I can start on my work immediately. You can nap while waiting for me to be done. Is that alright?"
She did not see anything wrong with the idea, so she agreed to it. If it was any other day, however, she would have to think twice. It would mean wasting time doing nothing, while waiting for him to be done.
He approached Vanora, then circled his arm around her waist, taking his liberties with her as usual. It happened so many times that even BaoBao started to overlook it.
If you like my story, please consider leaving a comment and/or vote~ I really appreciate it!! Either way, thank you for your interest in my story!! Hope you have a good day/night! Stay safe!
The fog took a much longer time before it cleared up. Vanora inferred that the castle must be quite a distance away from the inn.Once it cleared up, the first thing Vanora noticed was not how ridiculously large and spacious the room was, but how there were piles and piles of black paper scattered around the room. Some were even as tall as her. When she looked down, she found out that they were even standing on some important looking documents. The gold rim and letterings were the only thing that made it stand out against the black floor."Bloody hell. Didn't Raven say that she took over my duties? How's it such a mess? I don't think two months worth of work is even this much." He frowned, perplexed by the situation of his study."She probably did a bad job for you in vengeance." Vanora explained offhandedly. It definitely sounded like something Raven would do based on what Raven said to Vlad earlier. He looked at her with surprise. "You think so?"
At the end of the day, Vlad and Vanora returned to the castle instead of the inn. Vlad knew that Vanora preferred to not waste time on teleporting between three areas. Besides, the table in the study was large enough for them to eat at, without needing to move anything aside.“Vlad… Can you keep your distance whenever we’re in front of others?”“Why?”“I don’t want trouble.”“No one would dare.”“Of course, YOU won’t be troubled.”“You won’t be either, if you’re associated with me.”“Trouble will find me BECAUSE I&rs
After a short contemplation, the well-respected being finally spoke. "It's still too early to judge anything. We don't know what caused its behaviour. If it's related to its host, we would only be sending another system to its demise. If there are more signs that indicate going towards a negative ending, it'll never be too late to end BaoBao. Give it a system upgrade now, but quarantine its connections. The only ones it should be able to contact is us." No one argued and everyone returned to work. Some continued operations as per normal. Others attended to BaoBao's situation. This was how they were. No fuss, efficient, and effective. When they were done, they reported BaoBao's vitality signs and current condition to the one who gave the command. "How quickly it recovers now is up to it. Its host should be able to tide over by herself in the meantime. Our systems wouldn't keep themselves bounded with weak hosts." /BaoBao! BaoBao! What's wrong?! Where are y
Amidst the silence of the night and the snores, the soft rustle of leaves and grass could be heard here and there. Finally, some ghouls that should have been on patrol appeared and stood around Vanora. They looked at Vanora with a glazed over look in their eyes./Take her away from Lord Vlad. Place her in someone else’s arms./The order echoed repeatedly in their mind. They moved as one and pulled Vanora away from Vlad. They pulled, and pulled, and pulled, but Vanora was stuck as if she was rooted to the ground. Being mindless creatures at the moment, they did not stop to consider why, nor did they notice the black mark appear on the back of Vlad’s hand.Vlad’s eyes flew open. The sight of ghouls still pulling onto Vanora put him in a blind rage. A burst of power exploded from him and decayed everything around him, including any beings that happened to be sleeping close enough to him. Only Vanora, who was still unconscious and no
For the next month, Vanora did not catch a single glimpse of purple waves or bright childish green eyes. Gradually, she was able to calm her nerves, but just a little. Rosa's death was not confirmed, after all. Meanwhile, it was as if Vlad could sense her anxiety. Everytime before they slept, he reassured her that no one could enter his castle. Whenever they had to sleep in the open due to Raven's absence, he insisted that she slept in his arms. Initially, she only gave in because hell beings would not dare to touch their demon lord. Sleeping was one of the times when she was the most vulnerable, so being in his arms was especially helpful. However, after she experienced how much safer she felt and how much better her sleep was, she began sleeping in his arms more willingly. The hell beings that made up the current army were stronger but made it a point to unwind. Each time they asked for permission to le
After the incubi left, Vlad rushed back to Vanora's side to find her barely conscious. Her breathing was ragged, there was a little frown, and her face was flushed, but she appeared knocked out. She opened her eyes soon after he appeared by her side, though. When she made eye contact with him, she beamed like she had met her saviour. Her trembling hand reached up to touch his cheek. From that, he could tell that the sedative effect was wearing off."Damn it, what am I to do with you…?" He groaned. His power of sloth told him exactly what she was drugged with, and that the only cure was sexual gratification. Depending on how much aphrodisiac had entered her system and how concentrated it was, it would affect how many orgasms she would have to reach before its effect wore off. After fantasizing so much, this was the perfect chance for him to have her. She was even going for him by herself. This may even be the only chance he would ever get!
Now that she was conscious, Vlad felt equally conscious about how he would perform. He was particularly careful about taking it slow, wanting her to enjoy the process. Just as their lips barely touched, he felt his belt get undone and his eyes flew wide open. He quickly grabbed onto her hand and pulled away from her. /Is she still not conscious? How did she converse so well?/ Vanora blinked in confusion. "What's wrong?" His look turned gloomy. "What’s? Wrong? What’re YOU doing?" Vanora finally started to feel a little frustrated. Not only was she not feeling well, she even offered to do something far out of her comfort zone. She did not want to have to explain it clearly and in detail for him. Nonetheless, she gritted her teeth and pushed her frustrations back down. Vlad was innocent. She knew better than to vent it out on him. "Aren't you suffering a lot now? Since you've helped me, let me help you too." His eyes
The next morning, Vlad woke up first, as usual. However, this time, he spared a lot more time to gaze at Vanora’s sleeping profile. The thought to wipe her memories from last night crossed his mind. /I probably should ask her first.../Her brush with danger last night was far too close for comfort. Blaming himself for what happened to her, he vowed to tighten his security further and be a lot more careful. He sighed softly as he brought his fingers to her face and stroked her cheeks ever so lightly. "You're so precious." He whispered then kissed her forehead.Vanora frowned a little, then her eyelids slowly lifted. She looked at Vlad with sleep still in her eyes, "Morning...""Sorry for waking you up. You can sleep some more."She shook her head and slowly sat up.They then went about their morning routine like nothing was any different between them. While she drank her tea, Vlad finally found the courage to bring up the
RenRan began napping. A lot. Souls did not need sleep, but they could choose to do so. FanHai was one of those who seemed to never catch a wink of sleep. While RenRan slept, he stayed by her side, always keeping himself busy with something. This carried on for a good time before she began to catch him with his guard lowered after waking up. ‘A while more.’ RenRan did not believe that a man like him could keep himself entertained this long and resist a cat nap with her. At this point, BaoBao cried out in frustration. There were a few times she could have slipped away because he had already fallen asleep with her! He even dared to cuddle with her. That spot was only reserved for two people! Him and the familiar soul! “Is it really too much to assist by waking her up?” He challenged the elder one. “Is it so hard for her to stay awake in a world that doesn’t need sleep?” He challenged BaoBao back. “...That’s easy for you to say.” Then, BaoBao puffed his cheeks and returned to gl
RenRan’s eyes opened wide. No matter how hard she pushed against him or how much she pounded his chest, shoulders, or head, he persisted on. She tried to bite him, but he avoided using his tongue and skillfully moved his mouth in tandem with her attempts. With his hand cupping the back of her head, she could not break the kiss either. She was at his complete mercy. ‘I should have dropped the act earlier. This isn’t worth it!’ Fear slowly gripped her heart as she wondered how far he would take it. Then, he stopped, just as suddenly as he started. “Enough?” He grinned and meaningfully applied greater pressure on her lower back. His move made RenRan conscious of the rock hard member against her abdomen. Immediately recognising what it was, she fiercely pushed against his chest and demanded, “Okay, let me go! I’ll properly spend some time with you first!” He smiled with satisfaction. “Like I thought.” Then, he let her go. “You wouldn’t have to waste so much time and energy if you jus
RenRan’s heart jumped but she poised herself promptly, ready to grapple with whoever had manhandled her. “Why’d you run away from me? Didn't we have deal?” The somewhat familiar deep voice cleared up the situation. “I’m not running from you.” RenRan explained as she attempted to pull her arm out of his strong grip. “You know you can’t lie with this within us.” He pointed at his chest and kept on his tight smile. “You got to try harder than that to convince me.” RenRan frowned. “And I was precisely following that to find you, as agreed.” His smile gradually disappeared as his gaze dropped to study her entire body. “…You’re weaker than the last time I saw you.” RenRan had nothing to say in response. Instead, she attempted to twist her arm free again. “Even so, I’ve never heard of a compass malfunctioning because of this before.” Annoyed with his accusations, RenRan tuned in
RenRan headed for a condensed group of swirling sparkles that was just a little larger than her. ‘So, my mission is to achieve my dream no matter the cost. What’s my dream? To find YingTao? No, I’ll definitely find him. It’s just a matter of time. Then, I’ll find out that YingTao doesn’t want me anymore. And I’ll want him back...’ RenRan thought of everything that had happened in RenRan’s life. ‘I can only hope that her dream’s that simple...’ She began to think of all her misdemeanors, then ways to right her wrongs. [I should stop you right there. If it wasn’t clear enough before, as long as you’re in the story scenes, you’re supposed to do and say all the things the original character did.] ‘What? You didn’t say that earlier.’ [I mentioned earlier that it's risky to provoke this world’s consciousness into doing anything. So, we can only observe this world. What do you think this mea
Luna was right. She had inhabited Luo RenRan’s body. RenRan’s family belonged to the working class, but her gripe was not their standard of living, it was her parents’ favourtism for her brothers. She was the only girl, and she was the oldest. Anything her brothers did, she was responsible for. Any wrong they committed, they were let off with a more lenient punishment, while she was supposed to forgive and forget. Their expectations for her and the restrictions they imposed on her could not be compared to the standards they held her brothers against. The only solace she had was that her siblings never directly crossed her line, even when she was old enough to start working. If only it stayed that way forever. “RenRan... Forgive your brother, okay? You know he only took it because he needed it and only you can help him. If you have someone you need to blame, blame your father.” A gentle motherly voice coaxed her. “If your father helped, none of us would be
“Wh- What am I doing here?” BaoBao looked around in shock. He recognised this place. The last time he was here, it was to defend Luna. “Why am I back here?”The elder one sighed. “Why did you do it?”“D- Do what?”Gasps were heard around him.“It lies.”“It truly deceives.”“Surely, that’s bad.”“This can’t go on.”“It’s always this one system.”“Clearly there’s something wrong with it.”All the administration looked at the elder one, waiting for the go ahead. The elder one looked at BaoBao so intensely as if BaoBao was a specimen under his microscope. BaoBao gulped. He felt exposed. What was with this elder one? Whatever the case, Luna had already been sent to the next world. He could not dilly dall
“Don’t ignore me! I know you’re awake!” Someone pushed Luna’s shoulder hard. Her eyes flew open, and a purple and black galaxy unfolded before her. Her bottom left whatever she had been sitting on, but she did not fall. There was a resistance that made her body glide instead. Luna blinked a few times, stunned. "I dare you to say it again.” The same voice challenged her. Luna turned towards the source. There it was again. The sensation when she moved was familiar. However, she had no time to make sense of it. The deep voice belonged to a burly woman, instead of a man like Luna had assumed, not that it made anything better. Her guest looked as friendly as a starving lioness. Luna straightened her neat celestial-like robes while she quickly collected her thoughts. It shimmered and shone brighter than the glow emanating from her body. The fabric was so silky to touch that it was like water. Although it was transluc
“LUNA!” BaoBao jumped onto her. Luna grunted from the impact. It reminded her of how much he had grown from the first time she met him. ‘How is he so weightless but so heavy at the same time?’ “Hi BaoBao,” she laughed lightly, “Is this your new way of sending me to the next world?” “Huh?! No, no! It’s far too soon to be sending you to the next world, isn’t it?!” Luna laughed even more. “I was just teasing.” BaoBao blinked innocently. “Oh.” Luna looked at him endearingly. “You’re still so much like a kid.” She rubbed the top of his head lovingly. “Don’t systems live for eternity, if nothing goes wrong?” “Mmhm, what about it?” “It still felt that long to you?” “YES!” BaoBao confirmed without a second thought. Luna laughed. “Let’s spend some time together before heading to the next world.” BaoBao’s heart warmed and h
Nozomi closed her eyes and thought hard about his request. It did not feel right or good to take his years, but she had no right to dictate how he should live his life.‘Since he’s really fine with it...’Nozomi pushed her hands forward to cup his cheeks. “Okay...”Hikaru’s eyes brightened up. He promptly retrieved his book and readied himself. Nozomi watched Hikaru activate his magic with interest. The way his book’s ribbon splits and transforms into a robe and staff never got old. “Thank you, for going along with my wishes.” His heartfelt gratitude was reflected in his eyes as well. Nozomi smiled in understanding and squeezed his hands that were once again holding onto hers. Hikaru closed his eyes and focused on her presence, then said the incantation that he had memorised by then.Green glowing vine marks appeared
