FenFang finally frowned and changed into her nine-tailed fox form, anticipating a fight. In her fit of anger and anxiety, she momentarily forgot about the restriction MengYao placed on her. Black chains appeared all over her body. One end led to a collar around her neck. The other ends all seemed to disappear into the ground below FenFang, restricting her movements. She felt utterly humiliated to be seen in such a state but was not willing to back off without a fight.
Just as BaiXue lifted a hand towards FenFang, LongFei entered through the front door in his human form. A black cage appeared out of nowhere above him and dropped down. He frowned in annoyance but reacted fast. He overbearingly swung his hand above him like he was simply swatting a fly away and the cage flew to the side easily.
This thoroughly shocked FenFang who still had no idea who this intruder was.
On the other hand, BaiXue's lips twitched at his show of power that she would never have, which was why she could only resort to avoiding such traps like she did earlier.
"I see him. You don't have much time left." LongFei had already went back out and changed back into his dragon form.
"Wait." BaiXue called out just as he was about to take off. He stopped immediately and peeked into the room through the door.
FenFang looked at the dragon with her mouth open. Her heart tremored slightly and her eyes rounded in fear. /When and how did this wretched girl make such a powerful acquaintance?/
"Free her from the chains. Break them."
"What?!" LongFei and FenFang exclaimed at the same time.
"Do you really think he would spare your life if you traded it for mine? Did you not consider escaping together? How could I come here just to kill you when you saved me from starvation?"
Knowing that there was not much time left, LongFei did not wait for her to ask again and reluctantly did as she said. He asked BaiXue to step out of the hut which she obediently did, then destroyed the hut without a care for the person still inside. He hooked a claw and easily broke the chains where it was connected to the ground. After it was broken, it turned into normal dull rusty chains. With his task completed, LongFei took off while FenFang broke out of the remaining chains around herself with her own power.
"Now, are we even?"
FenFang's face lit up. "You're no snake in the end. It's good that you have some heart in you. You should have just stated your purpose from the start. You silly girl, causing me needless stress and worry."
BaiXue smiled coldly. "I could always say it now. I came here to save you..."
"I know, I know, but we don't have the time, let's move while we talk." FenFang turned her back towards BaiXue and began walking off.
"Then kill you." BaiXue leapt towards FenFang just as the last word left her mouth. Whilst in mid air, she changed into her rabbit form.
FenFang got stunned sitll. Then, she turned around in anger, only to get stunned still again. This was her first time seeing BaiXue's mystical form. FenFang's body reacted before her brain could. She found herself tumbling onto the ground to roll away from BaiXue's stomp. A small crater was created from BaiXue's landing.
"What are you? I-"
BaiXue did not bother to wait for FenFang to complete her sentence and attacked again. When FenFang dodged to the side again, BaiXue spun in midair with her leg fully extended to try and intercept her dodge, but it was not enough. In the same instance, she remembered her long tail. Her tail tightly coiled around FenFang's neck and brought her face down into the ground to eat dirt.
At the same time that FenFang's face smashed into ground, her own tails wrapped all around BaiXue's body in a tight hold. FenFang stood back up, shook the dirt off her head, and used her paw to brush more dirt off her face, then scowled at BaiXue.
"That's enough! I may not have seen a creature like you before but I'll not lose!"
FenFang gradually tightened her hold on BaiXue and wanted to kill her by strangulation. BaiXue initially put up a fierce struggle, but FenFang could feel her resistance weakening. Soon, BaiXue's body went limp and her tail no longer coiled around her neck. FenFang smirked and dropped BaiXue's body.
Just before BaiXue's body touched the ground, her eyes opened and she rebounded off the ground to tackle FenFang. As they were not very far apart to begin with, FenFang did not have enough time to dodge and got kicked square in the chest. Intense pain overwhelmed her as her breath got knocked out of her. Blood flew out of her open mouth. She skidded on the floor and was not given any time by BaiXue to recover. BaiXue was already in midair jumping towards her.
FenFang growled in pain and anger. Six of her tails shielded herself. Three of her tails shot out to counter BaiXue's attack. Just before they made contact, ice blue flames from above interrupted their fight, drawing a clear line between FenFang and BaiXue.
BaiXue experienced going through the flames before so it did not faze her. When she landed, she created another crater, deeper this time, but the spot was now empty. What surprised her more was to meet LongFei beyond the flames. FenFang was still in her nine-tailed fox form looking pitiful and weak behind LongFei. His tail moved away from FenFang as if he was just done dragging her out of BaiXue's path.
BaiXue frowned.
"MengYao told me that you poisoned FengJiao."
BaiXue's eyes widened with realisation then gritted her teeth. /I'm still too slow in the end./
[Huh? What're you saying?] BaoBao was dumbfounded.
"You'll pay for harming my beloved." LongFei said menacingly then shot his flames at BaiXue.
BaiXue jumped out of the way and got chased by LongFei, who flew in the air while he endlessly spewed out flames, setting the forest on fire.
BaoBao could no longer help it and screamed out. [BaiXue!! What are you doing?! What's going on?! What're you running from?! She's just there!]
BaiXue had only been able to barely miss his attacks by a hair's breath each time, so BaoBao's sudden alarmed scream surprised her and threw her off beat, causing her to get hit squarely on her back by LongFei's flames. The pain was paralysing and she crumpled onto the floor.
[BaiXue!! What happened?! Why're you in pain?!] BaoBao continued to exclaim.
At the same time, LongFei spewed out another shot of fire at BaiXue. From this point on, she knew that something was wrong. /I'm not supposed to die by his hands! This can't be happening! It must be an illusion!/
The flames engulfed her right after she made that conclusion. However, the pain from being roasted alive still felt very real. It consumed her entire being but she knew that she could not die.
[BaiXue!!] BaoBao was really panicking now. All he had seen was BaiXue behaving as if she had lost her mind. Not only was her jumping trajectory completely off, she suddenly stopped where she was when FenFang was right in front of her, then took off in the opposite direction. Now, she was randomly curled into a ball and writhing in pain, while FenFang slowly made her escape in her seriously wounded state.
"Gah!" BaiXue could no longer hold her voice back when she suffered yet another torturous blow of fire from the illusionary LongFei.
BaiXue guessed that FenFang's illusion magic played on people's minds and expectations, thus making it feel incredibly real. If she did not realise it was an illusion, she could have died from stopping her own breathing.
Unfortunately, knowing that it was an illusion was not enough to break the magic. One would have to completely and sincerely disbelieve the possibility of it happening for the magic to have no effect. In this case, it was impossible for BaiXue to believe that LongFei would not interfere with her fight and turn against her. It was also too late for her to imagine that LongFei's flames were painless.
BaiXue fought hard to tolerate the pain and get her brain to work. /BaoBao! Where is FenFang?!/
[Running away to your right!]
BaoBao's answer confirmed her suspicion that the FenFang she saw was fake as well. BaiXue decided to keep her eyes closed and hoped that it was only visual hallucinations so that she could find the truth with her hearing.
Her long ears twitched and she picked up several sounds. She could hear as far as the battle between MengYao and the real LongFei. She could hear the softest sounds like the rustle of every leaf and blade of grass. Among the plethora of sounds she heard, she could distinctly hear footsteps on grass to her right. She also noticed that she no longer felt any pain as if the illusionary LongFei has disappeared.
She stood up shakily with her muscles aching from tensing it continuously to bear with the pain. As soon as she stabilised, she took off towards the movement she heard to her right. Her fast reflexes combined with BaoBao's directions prevented her from running into any trees and obstacles.
[She's right in front of you now! Just go!]
BaoBao had not even completed his first sentence when BaiXue trusted his call and launched her entire body forward, intending to tackle FenFang down.
One second before she felt herself ram into a soft body, she heard LongFei's voice, "Did you think someone like you could escape from me?"
When her body tumbled onto the floor with FenFang's body, she could hear fire raging and her flesh sizzling. At the same time, BaoBao shouted excitedly, thinking that it was the end. [Just bite down hard! She's writhing in pain on the ground in front of you! If only you could see that look of fear in her eyes!]
However, he quickly noticed the weird lag in BaiXue's response. He paid attention to her condition again and noticed how she was not only all curled up again but there were also now tears glistening on her eye lashes.
[BaiXue!!]
Around the time when BaiXue engaged FenFang in a fight, LongFei started his with MengYao.
LongFei gradually realised that it was not as easy as the previous time he fought against MengYao. Not only was LongFei partially distracted by checking on BaiXue every now and then, MengYao seemed to be running on adrenaline and put up the fiercest fight he could manage. He was dead bent on getting to BaiXue. LongFei could see the strong intention to kill in MengYao's eyes. This strengthened his resolve to keep MengYao away from her. In this state that MengYao was in, BaiXue would not stand a chance. This put the two in a stalemate.
Black and blue flames covered the part of the sky where they were at. Each time one side thought the other would be hit, the other would somehow snake their way out of it and counter with an attack of their own.
LongFei stole another glance at BaiXue and saw how she was caught in FenFang's tails. He decided to intervene in BaiXue's fight whether she liked it or not. With his mind made up, he blasted MengYao with his flames at full power fueled by his frustrations and rage. It won MengYao's flame that he was fanning with his wings. LongFei almost hit the same wing that he had injured from before. This time, MengYao was swifter and dodged it by tucking in his wings and diving down below.
The next thing MengYao saw was LongFei taking off to BaiXue's side. Unable to take it anymore, he put aside his jealousy and shouted. "Why are you protecting a person like her?! Didn't FengJiao mean something to you? FengJiao told me about you!"
LongFei's actions faltered involuntarily.
"Don't you know that FengJiao has been poisoned?!"
LongFei frowned. /What's he saying? How's that possible?/
"She's poisoned?!"
"For a day and a half! She hasn't been getting better at all and her condition's still deteriorating!"
LongFei was stunned and his senses suddenly felt clouded. /How? What happened? Why didn't she blow the whistle? FengJiao... How's she now? What did I do? Where was I when she needed me? The almighty me losing someone to something as petty as poison? No way./
Catching how LongFei seemed absorbed in his own thoughts, MengYao took the chance to fly to BaiXue.
LongFei could easily sense MengYao's bloodlust directed at BaiXue. It made his heart thump wildly and uncontrollably in urgency. However, he could not seem to break out of the obsessive thoughts about FengJiao in his mind that held him there. His face scrunched up in annoyance and agony. His mind compelled him to fly back to tend to FengJiao and give her the cure-all antidote. His heart warned him that there was something else far more important than FengJiao that he had to attend to right now. All of a sudden, the softest yet most significant cry of pain in his life reached his ears, and struck a chord within him. It snapped him back to the present and he looked towards the source of it. The sight of a maroon rabbit all curled up into a ball and shivering uncontrollably with a black phoenix nearing dangerously close to her made him see red and lose his mind in a panic. He flew at the fastest speed he could go and the sound was like cutting through wind itself.
The impact of BaiXue's jump created yet another crater in the ground. LongFei kept up with her movement to keep himself between MengYao and BaiXue, and he fired the largest fire he could manage. BaiXue had already made her body as streamlined as possible, so that she would go faster. However, MengYao and LongFei were still faster. In that short distance she covered between her position to FenFang's writhing body, they had exchanged enough blows to cover the forest in black and blue flames. A sudden burst of speed boosted MengYao and he finally appeared by BaiXue's side just as she spun in mid-air to land on her hind legs. LongFei spat out even stronger flames to force MengYao to take a detour, then speedily positioned himself between MengYao and BaiXue once again. LongFei swung his tail and the strong gale threw MengYao back into the trees. This time MengYao was driven deeper into the ground as compared to before. SPLAT! The sound of a body being squash
Luna opened her eyes and found herself back in the same dark black space. "Luna?" "..." "Luna? Are you okay?" BaoBao was worried that being impaled reminded her of the way she died in the second world. "Mm." Luna did not feel like talking and simply floated in space with a spaced out look. "Luna? You can sleep like the last time if you need to." BaoBao remembered that she did not have much rest in the night before the final showdown with FenFang. Luna finally noticed BaoBao's worries so she reassured him, "I'm fine BaoBao. That death was nothing compared to the second world's. Also, it was more torturous fighting the fake LongFei. This death is really not too bad." "Then... What's wrong?" BaoBao looked at her with worried eyes and gently touched her forearm. Luna blinked her eyes in surprise. Although she was not thinking about anything in particular and had told him that she was fine, BaoBao was now a
Luna opened her eyes to find herself in complete darkness. If not for the intense ravenous hunger she was feeling, she would have thought that she was still in the same space from before. This hunger, unlike the previous world's, drove her crazy. She clenched her jaw and fists hard. It took up all the self control she had to prevent herself from going berserk and going on a rampage. What made matters worse was that she smelt a tantalizing meal nearby. Feeling it odd, she wanted to know what she was dealing with first before she did anything. /BaoBao!/ BaoBao immediately knew that she was ready to receive the information and so stimulated the memories of this body. The original soul of this body was a human named Vanora. An only child born to a poor but happy couple. Her parents did all they could to provide her the best but that did not mean they spoilt her. She had to earn it by helping out with the household and work. Her father was a
While Luna processed the memories, the golden specks in her eyes started to glow, making her irises look golden instead of grey. Her round pupils turned into sharp slits. Her breathing became irregular. [Lu- Luna?] BaoBao called out worriedly. However, he did not get a reply. [Luna!] Just as he yelled out her name again, he heard Luna's thoughts and saw the flashback she experienced. It was the eve of a new year. She was only 12 years old then. Just as they did so every year, her family was gathered in her father's study where her parents would review their results for the whole year. Luna knew without needing to be told that she was the only one who made no improvements in any aspect of herself whatsoever. Like she anticipated, her siblings were commended for doing well even in areas that were not their talents. Although her parents also commended Luna for being the most earnest, sincere
/For now, we can be sure that my body statistics seems enhanced. Strength, agility, speed, and all of my senses except for touch./ [And your appetite.] BaoBao added on. /What? Why?/ [... You finished an entire deer. In one sitting. Without a break!] /I did?/ Vanora looked beside her and stared speechlessly at the pile of bones. Before she knew it, she was already cooking what was left of the deer. /Oh dear./ In all the previous worlds, she would have preserved it and the deer would have lasted her days. /You're right./ [Not like you'd have a problem hunting anyway.] /... True. It's not that time consuming./ She was about to take another bite into the blue-rare meat when she heard a strange sound of air churning and warping in itself above her. She looked up warily. A man with short raven black hair and blood red ey
Her eyes glowed golden and her irises became sharp slits in the instant before she would die at his hands. Something told her to punch her hardest down into the ground at a specific spot. She followed her gut instinct and did so. The ground cracked and broke then flew upwards towards all his apparitions while she fell into the resulting crater. All of his apparitions got pierced or hit, except one. The remaining one dodged everything and easily made use of the debris to make his way towards her. She gritted her teeth hard and growled. Acting purely on instinct, she prepared to meet his attack head on. She habitually brought forth the spiritual energy in her body not knowing if the bodies of this world had it or not. Indigo flames suddenly covered her body but she felt no pain. Without a pause in her actions, she manipulated the flames to flare out and jump out around her randomly then build their way towards him. His eyes slightly widened in surprise but he soo
BaoBao quietly enjoyed the pair's interaction. He found it interesting and amusing. Vlad's quirkiness kept throwing Vanora off and distracting her from her objective. She accepted his help faster and easier than she normally would, she has completely forgotten about his kiss on her neck, and he made her forget about her insecurities. Just as he got comfortable with being the spectator, Vlad's next move alerted BaoBao. Based on his understanding of Vanora, she would not like what he was about to do. [Uhmm... You might want to look up. Now.] Vanora sensed the urgency in BaoBao's voice, so she immediately did as he suggested. Vlad's face filled her entire vision. Her heart jumped. Before her mind registered what was happening, her hand instinctively flew up and roughly pushed his chin up. Vlad looked down at her from the corner of his eye. "What's wrong?" "What's wrong? What are you doing?" "You blushed. Do you know how inviting
RenRan began napping. A lot. Souls did not need sleep, but they could choose to do so. FanHai was one of those who seemed to never catch a wink of sleep. While RenRan slept, he stayed by her side, always keeping himself busy with something. This carried on for a good time before she began to catch him with his guard lowered after waking up. ‘A while more.’ RenRan did not believe that a man like him could keep himself entertained this long and resist a cat nap with her. At this point, BaoBao cried out in frustration. There were a few times she could have slipped away because he had already fallen asleep with her! He even dared to cuddle with her. That spot was only reserved for two people! Him and the familiar soul! “Is it really too much to assist by waking her up?” He challenged the elder one. “Is it so hard for her to stay awake in a world that doesn’t need sleep?” He challenged BaoBao back. “...That’s easy for you to say.” Then, BaoBao puffed his cheeks and returned to gl
RenRan’s eyes opened wide. No matter how hard she pushed against him or how much she pounded his chest, shoulders, or head, he persisted on. She tried to bite him, but he avoided using his tongue and skillfully moved his mouth in tandem with her attempts. With his hand cupping the back of her head, she could not break the kiss either. She was at his complete mercy. ‘I should have dropped the act earlier. This isn’t worth it!’ Fear slowly gripped her heart as she wondered how far he would take it. Then, he stopped, just as suddenly as he started. “Enough?” He grinned and meaningfully applied greater pressure on her lower back. His move made RenRan conscious of the rock hard member against her abdomen. Immediately recognising what it was, she fiercely pushed against his chest and demanded, “Okay, let me go! I’ll properly spend some time with you first!” He smiled with satisfaction. “Like I thought.” Then, he let her go. “You wouldn’t have to waste so much time and energy if you jus
RenRan’s heart jumped but she poised herself promptly, ready to grapple with whoever had manhandled her. “Why’d you run away from me? Didn't we have deal?” The somewhat familiar deep voice cleared up the situation. “I’m not running from you.” RenRan explained as she attempted to pull her arm out of his strong grip. “You know you can’t lie with this within us.” He pointed at his chest and kept on his tight smile. “You got to try harder than that to convince me.” RenRan frowned. “And I was precisely following that to find you, as agreed.” His smile gradually disappeared as his gaze dropped to study her entire body. “…You’re weaker than the last time I saw you.” RenRan had nothing to say in response. Instead, she attempted to twist her arm free again. “Even so, I’ve never heard of a compass malfunctioning because of this before.” Annoyed with his accusations, RenRan tuned in
RenRan headed for a condensed group of swirling sparkles that was just a little larger than her. ‘So, my mission is to achieve my dream no matter the cost. What’s my dream? To find YingTao? No, I’ll definitely find him. It’s just a matter of time. Then, I’ll find out that YingTao doesn’t want me anymore. And I’ll want him back...’ RenRan thought of everything that had happened in RenRan’s life. ‘I can only hope that her dream’s that simple...’ She began to think of all her misdemeanors, then ways to right her wrongs. [I should stop you right there. If it wasn’t clear enough before, as long as you’re in the story scenes, you’re supposed to do and say all the things the original character did.] ‘What? You didn’t say that earlier.’ [I mentioned earlier that it's risky to provoke this world’s consciousness into doing anything. So, we can only observe this world. What do you think this mea
Luna was right. She had inhabited Luo RenRan’s body. RenRan’s family belonged to the working class, but her gripe was not their standard of living, it was her parents’ favourtism for her brothers. She was the only girl, and she was the oldest. Anything her brothers did, she was responsible for. Any wrong they committed, they were let off with a more lenient punishment, while she was supposed to forgive and forget. Their expectations for her and the restrictions they imposed on her could not be compared to the standards they held her brothers against. The only solace she had was that her siblings never directly crossed her line, even when she was old enough to start working. If only it stayed that way forever. “RenRan... Forgive your brother, okay? You know he only took it because he needed it and only you can help him. If you have someone you need to blame, blame your father.” A gentle motherly voice coaxed her. “If your father helped, none of us would be
“Wh- What am I doing here?” BaoBao looked around in shock. He recognised this place. The last time he was here, it was to defend Luna. “Why am I back here?”The elder one sighed. “Why did you do it?”“D- Do what?”Gasps were heard around him.“It lies.”“It truly deceives.”“Surely, that’s bad.”“This can’t go on.”“It’s always this one system.”“Clearly there’s something wrong with it.”All the administration looked at the elder one, waiting for the go ahead. The elder one looked at BaoBao so intensely as if BaoBao was a specimen under his microscope. BaoBao gulped. He felt exposed. What was with this elder one? Whatever the case, Luna had already been sent to the next world. He could not dilly dall
“Don’t ignore me! I know you’re awake!” Someone pushed Luna’s shoulder hard. Her eyes flew open, and a purple and black galaxy unfolded before her. Her bottom left whatever she had been sitting on, but she did not fall. There was a resistance that made her body glide instead. Luna blinked a few times, stunned. "I dare you to say it again.” The same voice challenged her. Luna turned towards the source. There it was again. The sensation when she moved was familiar. However, she had no time to make sense of it. The deep voice belonged to a burly woman, instead of a man like Luna had assumed, not that it made anything better. Her guest looked as friendly as a starving lioness. Luna straightened her neat celestial-like robes while she quickly collected her thoughts. It shimmered and shone brighter than the glow emanating from her body. The fabric was so silky to touch that it was like water. Although it was transluc
“LUNA!” BaoBao jumped onto her. Luna grunted from the impact. It reminded her of how much he had grown from the first time she met him. ‘How is he so weightless but so heavy at the same time?’ “Hi BaoBao,” she laughed lightly, “Is this your new way of sending me to the next world?” “Huh?! No, no! It’s far too soon to be sending you to the next world, isn’t it?!” Luna laughed even more. “I was just teasing.” BaoBao blinked innocently. “Oh.” Luna looked at him endearingly. “You’re still so much like a kid.” She rubbed the top of his head lovingly. “Don’t systems live for eternity, if nothing goes wrong?” “Mmhm, what about it?” “It still felt that long to you?” “YES!” BaoBao confirmed without a second thought. Luna laughed. “Let’s spend some time together before heading to the next world.” BaoBao’s heart warmed and h
Nozomi closed her eyes and thought hard about his request. It did not feel right or good to take his years, but she had no right to dictate how he should live his life.‘Since he’s really fine with it...’Nozomi pushed her hands forward to cup his cheeks. “Okay...”Hikaru’s eyes brightened up. He promptly retrieved his book and readied himself. Nozomi watched Hikaru activate his magic with interest. The way his book’s ribbon splits and transforms into a robe and staff never got old. “Thank you, for going along with my wishes.” His heartfelt gratitude was reflected in his eyes as well. Nozomi smiled in understanding and squeezed his hands that were once again holding onto hers. Hikaru closed his eyes and focused on her presence, then said the incantation that he had memorised by then.Green glowing vine marks appeared
