I woke to the sounds of people gathering outside. Groaning, I was reminded the 'festival' wasn't over. Melite murmured in her sleep, snuggling closer to me. I smiled, remembering how after we had sex against the wall, I carried her back here, and she fell asleep cuddled next to me. With a sigh, I carefully slipped out of bed, getting dressed.

"Mmm… Asterion." she murmured but didn’t open her eyes. I decide to leave her to sleep and make her something to eat, knowing the drawing will happen soon and probably wake her. And it doesn’t take long for Minos’ voice to echo through the labyrinth, “Welcome to the fifth day of the festival!” Of course, this wakes Melite.

“What’s going on?" she grumbles, sitting up rubbing her eyes. I look over at her as I set a plate of eggs and fruit down. There are some light marks on her body from where I’ve nipped at her flesh. I could certainly get used to having her naked in my bed. “The festival is starting for the day. They’ll draw the next tribute’s name soon. You should eat." I explain, gesturing to the plate.

She smiled a little at the food but frowned. “What will you do?" she asked, getting up and regrettably putting her clothes on. “I don’t know. I mean, I could do nothing. I’m the only one that can navigate this place. You’re lucky that last night you found me instead of getting lost yourself. If I do nothing, they will just get lost and probably die of starvation or dehydration." I shrugged while eating some smoked meat.

I noticed her grimace, glancing over at what I was eating. She’s probably wondering who I’m eating. I refuse to feel bad about it. “Would you prefer I find and kill whoever Minos sends in?" I cocked my head. “Well, I don’t want you to kill. Unless you have to. I mean, you have food, right…" she said, looking at my plate yet again. “For the moment, yes, my food storage is full." I nodded. “And well, what if it’s another girl. I don’t think I would feel okay with you killing one of them or us letting them die." she frowned.

She’s making this complicated. It almost makes me wonder if sparing her was worth the headache. “Guess we see what happens." I shrugged, finishing up my breakfast. She was quiet as she ate, watching me from the corner of her eye. I could tell she was thinking about what she wanted to say—probably trying to think of the best way to say it not to offend me.

She’s a considerate little thing. “Asterion… if today’s tribute is a girl.” she began. I cocked my head and waited for her to continue. “Will you bed her?” she asked in a soft voice. I stopped myself from laughing. She’d probably get angry at me if I laughed. “Do you want me to?” I asked because I’m pretty sure it will make her blush.

I’m right, of course. Her face flushes crimson, and she shoves me or tries. “Asterion. I know we talked last night about how sex isn’t something you want or will leverage in exchange for letting someone live. But that doesn’t mean you won’t find one of the other girls attractive.” she pouted, and damn, is it cute. “That would make you jealous?” I questioned. She turned brighter red and shoved me again.

“I mean it. I just want to be prepared. I mean, there’s only this room. And that one bed.” she sighed. I glanced to the bed and nodded. “That’s true. There are other rooms, but they don’t have a bed. If more of you are going to stay here, I will need to talk to my mother on her next visit about more pillows and blankets.” I agreed. “Do you think she will come back before the festival ends?” she asked. “Maybe. It will depend on Minos and how well guarded she is.” I sighed, getting up.

“Asterion? Where are you going?” she asked, turning to watch me. “They will announce the next name. I was going to go be ready to find them.” I explained. And on cue, I hear Minos’ voice echoing through the maze. “TODAY’S TRIBUTE IS…. Europa! We wish you luck, young lady. May you have better fortune than the girl from yesterday.” I glanced at Melite at the announcement.

Her eyes were wide, and I’m not sure what the expression on her face was. Of course, she would know the girl. But I’m not sure if they are friends or rivals. Or maybe her expression is because Minos thinks she’s dead. “They… they think I’m dead.” she said softly. “Well, you did scream when you first saw me.” I shrugged. I could hear this Europa crying as she was shoved inside. “Do you know this girl?” I asked. Melite nodded softly. “Yes. Though not well. Just after the drawing, all tributes were isolated together. We traveled by ship together. She’s… gorgeous. The sailors on the ship and the guards when we arrived here all had eyes for her. I’m sure you will too.” she answered, pouting again.

I sighed and walked over to her, leaning down, and tilted her head up, and kissed her soundly. After a moment, I pulled back, leaving her breathless. “Even if I find her alluring, that doesn’t mean I would neglect you. You will always hold most dear.” I assured her. She sighed and nodded. “Okay. Should I come with you?” she asked. “No, stay here.” I shook my head.

“But if she sees you… she will panic as I did.” she frowned. “I know. And because you screamed, they all believe you are dead.” I pointed out. “Oh… you want her to scream, so they think you killed her.” she blinked in realization. “Exactly. So stay here. I’ll be back.” I nodded before leaving to find the sobbing Europa.

I must admit I’m intrigued. Melite is gorgeous but is envious of Europa’s looks. I have no disillusions that I’ll be having sex with anyone I let survive. I’m still surprised Melite slept with me, let alone twice. A few turns away from the entrance, I found Europa. She was huddled in a ball against a dead-end crying wearing a blue chiton and her long, vibrant red hair hiding her face.

“Europa.” I greeted, catching her attention. Her head turned, her hair parted like a curtain opening to let in the sunshine, and eyes as bright blue as the sky I haven’t seen since I was a child looked at me in terror. I was at least prepared for the blood-curdling scream that escaped her bow-shaped lips. I waited as I heard the crowd cheering outside before I stepped closer to her. Her scream fell silent as she fainted.

I sighed and hefted her off the ground and onto my shoulder. “And this is the girl Melite is envious of? Melite didn’t faint and tried to put up a fight when I found her.” I snorted as I carried the girl back to my room. Melite was still at the table chewing on her bottom lip in worry. As I entered, she darted to her feet.

“Is she okay?” she asked nervously. I’m sure there’s more she wants to ask but thought better of it. I can imagine what she was thinking. Probably wondered if I hurt her. But at least she didn’t voice it. “She fainted after she screamed seeing me." I explained, laying the girl on the bed. “Oh. I guess that makes sense.” she nodded, coming to sit on the bed.

I stepped back and watched as Melite checked on Europa. “I’m glad she’s okay.” she sighed. “I had another question.” she said, turning her attention to me. “What’s that?” I asked, folding my arms. “Is there a bathroom?” she said shyly. I chuckled and nodded. “Yes, I have a bathroom. Not that Minos knows about it. But my mother ensured some things were put into the construction of this labyrinth.” I explained, offering her a hand.

She smiled softly, taking my hand to stand. “I’ll show you the way. There is also a tub and water that can be heated if you wanted to wash.” I offered. “I can take a bath!?” she exclaimed but quickly covered her mouth and glanced at Europa, who was still out. I chuckled at her innocence and sweet demeanor.

“Come on. I’m sure after everything yesterday you would like to bathe. I will deal with Europa when she wakes. Don’t leave the bathroom till I come for you.” I instructed, leading her out of the room. “Right. I wouldn’t want to get lost.” she agreed, walking next to me.

I left her in the very simple bath that my mother had ensured existed in one of the dead-ends. Unlike the center of the maze, which was a large room, this had no archway or anything that separated it.  There was nothing fancy about it; a stone toilet, stone tub, and a water pump. The tub is raised with an area to heat the water underneath. “It isn’t much.” I started to say. “It’s more than I expected. Your mother was very thoughtful to ensure this was even included. From what you’ve told me of King Minos, he wouldn’t have bothered and just left you to designate a place to go to the bathroom as if you are an animal." Melite frowned.

She’s not wrong. He probably had fully intended I be treated like an animal. “Did you want to take a bath or just use the toilet?” I questioned. She blushed at how casually I talked about it. “I um, I would like a bath.” she answered shyly. I nodded. “Okay, well, just use the water pump to fill the tub. I can get a fire started under it to heat the water if you want.” I offered. “Thank you, Asterion.” she smiled.

With the fire started under the tub, I left her to her business. I doubt she wanted me to stand there while she used the toilet. By the time I was back to my room, Europa was awake and looking terrified, huddled in the corner of the room at the head of my bed. She screamed when she saw me and this time I covered my ears she was so loud.“Knock it the fuck off!” I bellowed. My bellowing startled her. Her eyes widened, and she blinked slowly at me as her mouth fell open in shock. “Yes, the monster speaks and has sensitive hearing. It also has a name. It’s Asterion, by the way.” I said, stalking forward to sit at the table. She flinched as if I was stalking towards her. I’m not sure if she was more surprised when I spoke or that I had no intentions of touching her.“You… you aren’t going to…

I wanted to hit something. I can’t beat Europa, no matter how much I want to. As much as I hate to admit it, Melite has me wrapped around her delicate fingers. Why is it no one warned me this could happen from having sex? Or is this just me? I doubt Minos got emotionally attached to my mother the first time they had sex or with any of the whores he’s fucked. Ironic he got pissed that my mother, under a curse from a God, slept with a bull while she’s not allowed to say anything about his many affairs and bastard children.I wish I could talk to my mother. I’m sure she could help me understand this and that she’d also put Europa in her place, but I don’t know when I’ll see my mother again. So I must leave it to Melite to deal with Europa. I can only hope any of the others aren’t like this. However, I do worry about what will happen when one of the boys is

We walked in silence as I led the way to the bath. “Here it is. I’ll be around the corner while you do your business.” I said, gesturing to the bath area. “I… thank you.” Europa said before quickly dashing past me to the bathroom. “Is there not anything for privacy?” she questioned. “No. Remember, this was built for me. No one else is supposed to be alive here. And thus, I’ll be around the corner.” I waved a hand, turning my back to wait around the corner. It didn’t take her very long to do what she needed then come looking for me. “Asterion?” she called out. She sounded nervous, like she thought I’d just left her there. “I’m right here.” I greeted, stepping out into sight. “Oh, good. I wasn’t sure how far you’d gone. Europa had genuinely looked shocked that I would promise to protect her. Maybe before my mother can help her escape, Europa will truly understand that I’m not a monster. I won’t hold my breath, but it’s something to work towards. The rest of the day went by slowly and without incident. The girls busied themselves reading what I brought back from my makeshift library. I stayed occupied the same ways I always have, sharpening my ax and wandering the maze.By the time I had returned, both girls were on my bed, sound asleep. “There goes my plans of having Melite to myself.” I sighed, looking over their sleeping forms. They were both under my blanket, sleeping on their sides, facing away from each other. I carpet closer, trying to be quiet or as quiet as a hooved animal of my size can be quiet. I crouched down, gently moving some loose strands of Melite’s golden hair from her

I woke in the morning to the echoing sounds of people starting to gather outside. I groaned, sitting up rubbing my face with both hands. “Starting already?” I groaned, getting to my feet. Looking at my bed, I saw the girls were both sleeping soundly. Unconsciously I licked my lips, remembering the fevered kiss I shared with Europa late last night.I don’t know if it will happen again. I don’t know how Melite will feel when she’s told. Which I will tell her. Not telling Melite about it would be a betrayal, even if we aren’t in a defined committed relationship. Melite deserves the truth. I stretched and cracked my neck. Sleeping on the floor was not good for my neck and back. But oh well. I certainly wouldn’t make the girls sleep on the floor.I lumbered over to the fire and brought it back to life from its dying em

"Asterion…" Melite called out after me. I didn't stop. There were no sweet words she could say to make me not kill this boy. He, like the criminals who get sent in her, deserve what I'm going to do to him. I'm not letting that little bastard stay in my labyrinth, especially not with Europa, who he's already hurt, and Melite. He is a danger to them, and I'll see him put down like the dog he is."No, please! Please don't send me in there!" Antimachus cried out as I heard the familiar rumble of the boulder being moved back across the entrance. As I peeked around the corner, I saw the sandy blonde boy beating his fist against the boulder. As if that would help him. He wasn't going to escape this place. He wasn't going to escape me.I watched him for a while, staying just out of sight as he cautiously tried to navigate the maze. He didn't look all that danger

I don’t know why they’d come looking for me. Least of all, why they were still coming closer knowing where I am. I don’t want them to see all this blood. I sighed and pulled the stopper, letting the bloody water drain out while reaching out to pump refresh water in to rinse myself with. I had stood up in the tub dumping the water down me to ensure I was free of any blood, when I heard a gasp.I raised my head and saw both girls standing at the entrance staring at me. Melite’s bright blue eyes were wide as she looked at my wet naked, well as naked as one can get when covered with fur, body. Her eyes darkened as she bit her bottom lip, and the scent of her blooming arousal hit me. Her eyes were focused on my member, which hardened under her gaze.Europa’s green eyes were also wide, her mouth gaping as she looked at me. Un

I let Europa guide me away from the bath, thought just enough for us to be out of Melite’s sight. We’d only managed to get around the corner before Europa surprised me by pushing me to the wall. Typically her pushing me wouldn’t have caused me to move an inch, but she’d caught me off guard, and I stumbled slightly into the wall.“Europa…” I started to question. The rest of my words died off, muffled as she kissed me. Her kiss was different from Melite and even different from last night's. It was desperate and chaotic. It felt like she wanted to use me to erase the trauma even hearing that boy’s name brought bubbling back to the surface. And I don’t know how I should feel about that. But I do know I want her to feel better, so I go with it. I wrap my arms around her, lifting her to my level. Swit

It was a long distance between the labyrinth and Lappa, but I managed to make the trip in half a day with my running and desire to see Melite and our son. I let out a breath as I reached the top of a hill and looked below to the small farm. I saw my son pushing a blow through a field, his ivory fur reflected the sun, and I could see the hints of his mother’s honey blonde in his mane.He has grown to be a strong young man. I smiled proudly to see how the fussy baby taken from me almost sixteen years ago had grown so well. My attention was pulled from my son as the door to the house opened, and Melite stepped out. She was still as beautiful as the first day I met her. Her hair piled up, showing her slender neck, a bright smile on her face that reached her beautiful blue eyes as she called out to our son.“Teskos! Come eat, my little star!” she s

  • Asterion   Epilogue Part One

You know how my story ends. It’s the only thing history, or rather mythology, writes about me. I was killed in my labyrinth by the ‘hero,’ and I will use that term loosely, Theseus, sixteen years after the first festival was held. I scoffed as I sat here in the darkness of the afterlife. “So this is what the Fates had planned for me? I would live to the age of thirty-two and die because the people of Athens sent a ringer to kill me and stop the octennial festival.I can’t blame them, of course. Who in their right mind would want to send fourteen of your noble youths to their deaths because some King was pissed about their son dying. So I don’t blame them for sending Theseus. He was not a noble. He also wasn’t a youth. The prick was my age and not even from Athens. But whatever. They managed to slip him into the group of tributes.

Another month had passed before my mother came again. They were both seven months into their pregnancies, and it was getting risky to move them if we waited much longer. “Will you be taking them both?” I asked as I sat between Melite and Europa on the bed. Both girls leaned closer to me, hugging my arms.“I can’t sneak two very pregnant women out at the moment. But I have a safe place secured in Milos. They will take good care of whichever girl goes and their child.” my mother assured. “So who shall leave?” she looked between Europa and Melite. Melite tightening her hold on my arm. “I want to stay with Asterion.” she sniffled.Europa sniffled. “So do I. But… I… alright, I’ll go.” she conceded. “Then gather your things and say goodbye.” my mother nodded ready

Now that we knew at least three of the girls were expecting, you’d have thought it would change things. But it hadn’t. At least not really. Our day-to-day routines remained the same. The only real difference was that the girls went to the bath more often and ate more than before. I was trying to be as attentive as I could and see to their needs.Which wasn’t too difficult, even when their needs seemed to be more carnal. I hadn’t realized pregnancy made women more aroused. But I wasn’t going to complain about that. Even as the weeks passed and the other girls started to have the same symptoms. Satisfying seven women were draining, but again I don’t think I should complain. I care for each of them, and the fact they are carrying my children somehow made them more attractive. It's been two months since my mother last was able to

“I think the last time was the last time.” for someone who had said the first time we had said would also be the last, she was more forceful in making her desires clear. Shifting her weight in my lap to rub her sex along my hardened length. “Eurymedusa…” I groaned. “Asterion…” my name came out as a breathy moan from her lips. I teased as I pinched her nipples.“Woman’s prerogative to change her mind. Now less talking and more…” she moaned as she rocked her hips, causing my tip to push through her folds. “More?” I ask, clenching my jaw because I thrust deeper, but I want her to say it. “Less talking about more fucking.” she insisted, hips wiggling, trying to take me deeper. That was enough confirmation for me as I gripped her hips, thrusting fully into her core.

“Mother…” I blink, trying to get up, wanting to greet her. To apologize to her for what I did. For what I put her through. “Asterion!” a chorus of voices shout my name as Demoleon, Amphidocus, and even Porphyrion rush to try and keep me from getting up. “No, moving.” Eurymedusa commands as she and the girls all watch me with worried looks. Shit, even Eurymedusa is worried. This doesn’t bode well.“Oh, my little star. Please don’t injure yourself further.” mother sighed softly as she hefted two large baskets into the room. “Oh, your highness, let us take those.” Andromache and Hesione hurried to take the baskets from her. “We didn’t expect you. With… what happened….” Melite bowed her head in greeting.I could tell Melite was uncomfortable. All of

He shouldn’t have raped Porphyrion. He shouldn’t have struck the boy either. He deserved what he got.I didn’t try to fight as his guards rushed and started throwing ropes to hold me, trying to force me. I could see the pain in my mother’s eyes, and it tore at my heart. I’ve hurt her. I will never forgive myself for causing her pain. And I know watching what is happening to me was causing her pain.I let out a loud bellow, startling everyone. After Porphyrion has settled in, I’ll see about putting up those markers so everyone can move freely and safely without needing me.” I nodded, heading for the entrance.Periboea hurried to keep up with me as we made our way through the twists and turns. I came to a sudden stop, Periboea crashing into my back. “Asterion?” she questioned. “Shh... he’s not alone.” I whispered, shoving her back around the corner.
