~Alaya
"You're the one who wanted this," I remind her. "You look beautiful, anyway. Everything will be fine."
Sky shakes her head at me, staring out the window of her bedroom nervously. She is dressed now, her hair and makeup flawless. However, she is visibly trembling, nervous about what is about to come in the next few moments. We are about be picked up to be taken to Alpha Asher's party, and it has finally dawned on her.
I don't know how many times I have to tell her she looks amazing. We both will be seen walking into the event, and she clearly wants to look her best.
She does. Her dark hair was been pulled back, kept in place with a glimmering silver clip that is her own. Her dress fits her perfectly, accentuating her hips and slim waist impeccably. Most importantly to her, her wedding ring is on her finger, letting everyone at the party know that she is spoken for.
"I should be the one worrying. I'm wearing a dress that could be considered a second skin," I add, motioning down to the outfit she had forced upon me.
The dress fits better than I assumed it would. However, it makes me feel almost naked, like there isn't any possible imagination left to be had. I made sure that Sky left my hair down when she styled it, so it could cover the cleavage that made me extremely nervous. Instead of feeling glamorous and wealthy, I feel like the girls who work down main street for nothing but favours.
"You're naturally beautiful," Sky snapped, before sucking in a deep breath. "You need to find a nice single guy to entertain you anyway. The dress is perfect."
I was about to protest, however, the bell ringing from downstairs stole my words.
Sky squealed to the point where I considered placing my hands over my ears right in front of me. "They are here!"
As she makes a wild dash for the stairs, I glance out the window. The same sleek car from earlier is parked outside, and someone steps out. From up here, I can't decipher much about what they looks like, aside from the fact that they wear a suit.
Before Sky can break her neck in those heels, I follow after her.
When I make it downstairs, Sky is opening the door to reveal who is outside. It's a tall lanky woman with short cropped hair. She wore a straight pressed suit that fit her perfectly, looking so neat and pristine it's intimidating. Immediately, she holds her hand out to Sky, sharp blue eyes narrowing on her. Tentatively, our invitations are handed over for her to inspect.
Please don't turn it over.
"Follow me," she says sharply, twisting around to walk swiftly back to the car, heels clicking against the path outside.
The air is balmy outside, which is strange, considering the naturally crisp air usually found in this Pack. The evening has just begun, the sun setting behind Asher's estate up on the hill. Lights are beginning to flicker on, signifying what would normally be another work night. It's different tonight, though. Everyone will be closing shop since people will be climbing the hill to watch everyone going in, or they will be at home watching from their television.
Most people just like to watch to see who Alpha Asher invites.
The woman opens the car door for us. Sky hesitates, before she clambers into the car. Holding my dress up, I shimmy my way into the car, getting completely encompassed by the darkness inside.
Sky grasps my hand tightly. She looks nervous, until we pull out of our driveway and onto mainstreet. That's when her eyes light up, the blazing street reflecting onto her face. She looks so young, and I suddenly feel happier with myself for coming with her to the party. She doesn't get out enough, so maybe this will actually do her some good.
"You walk straight in when we get there," the strange woman who decided not to introduce herself said from the front seat. A layer of mesh separates the driver and her from Sky and I.
I wanted to say something in response, but I kept my mouth shut. Maybe something like 'why? So they would feel lesser compared to us?'
The closer we get to Asher's estate, the more nervous I become. What does the little note mean, and who could have possible wrote it? If the A stood for Asher, then he would he come to me and say something? I can't imagine how he would know who I am for a start...
"Oh my," I hear Sky say from beside me.
When I follow her gaze, I realise I was too busy staring at my fingers on my lap to see we had made it to the foot of his property, right by the gate. A swarm of people were looking at the car, although I knew they couldn't see past the tint. They live in my neighbourhood, I know that much. That familiar withdrawn look in their eyes it like a punch straight to the gut.
"They are excited to be there Lay. Don't do anything," Sky whispers, trying to sound comforting, although, I heard the warning in her voice.
The gates slide open after a minute of the driver speaking to a Guard outside and of me trying to keep my gaze away from the people away. People are everywhere on the drive up, and I wonder what exactly they had that made those Guards let them in above the rest. I'm hoping they got here first or something, however, I have a feeling that might not be the case.
Instead of focusing on the wash of cheering faces of people who wait every year for this party, I focus on the lights strung on the trees and even on the line of the fence. They are a mix of vivid colours - most commonly purple blue and gold.
"This is insane," Sky says in my ear. "I can't believe this is actually happening!"
We drive up to a courtyard, framed by a formal lawn everyone gathers on to the left, and a decorative fountain on the right. Everything is magnified and magnificent, making my fingers begin to tremble nervously, my stomach flipping over. Asher must like lights or something, because they light up everything.
The fountain we park next to glistens brightly with lights under the water. Even the base of the actual home has a multitude of striking lights that glow a strange colour of amber.
"Remember what I said," the woman says suddenly before she steps confidently out of the car.
Photos are instantly taken, the sharp shots attacking the windows of the car so I have to concentrate on my ridiculously sparkly shoes. My gaze moves to Sky's hand as she grabs mine.
That is until the door is pulled open beside me.
Like a deer caught in the headlights, I'm struck looking down at the short haired woman. Her hand covered in numerous glinting rings is held out to me, wanting to lead me onto the ebony carpet outside. Of course, the cheering is in my ears, however, it blends out into white noise. The flash of the cameras is right there, almost completely blinding me.
"Quickly," she prompts, and I grab her hand, taking Sky out with me. Is this what it is like to be wealthy and famous? If so, I had it.
My heels sink into the carpet as I step forward, wishing I could shield my eyes, from everything going on. I don't look at Sky, as I know she will be basking in it, and I don't want to make myself feel anymore introverted. So instead, I focus on the door I'm being lead toward.
Two tall guards stand at the door, holding their hands out for our invitations.
It's the woman who finally lets go of my hand to show them both our invitations. The Guard nods, taking one of the invitations while the woman tucks the other under her suit jacket. Then she turns to us and smiles, motioning for us enter.
"Welcome to Alpha Asher's annual party. Eat, drink, dance and have the time of your life, for one night of your life."
Her words echo in my ear. Sky quickly walks forward, anxious to enter through the curtain of silver fabric that concealed the outside from the inside. No one is allowed to know what is inside unless they are invited or work there. I go to follow, anxious to keep to my sister's side at all times.
However, the woman grabs my arm, bringing her lips to my ear.
"You're going to want to keep this," she whispers, and I feel her slip the satiny invitation back into my hand.
She raises a blonde eyebrow when I look at her in confusion. I have so many questions. Has she been instructed to let me keep the invitation, or is she doing it because she saw the note on the other side of the invitation?
"Why do I need this?" I question. She shakes her head at me, pushing me forward by the small of my back. "Wait...Who wrote it?"
Stumbling through the curtain, I first come to terms with the soft music that drifts around me. It's something classical and gentle, running across my skin under the hair raises up. Then I see Sky, who looks over her shoulder, a huge smile painted across her face. That, and the entire setting behind her blows my mind.
This must be the main floor we are able to explore and part on. There is a massive set of sweeping stairs up to a landing concealed by mirrors, reflecting the scene of well dressed rich people dancing on the first floor. Plenty of people are on the higher floor, and for a moment, I'm curious how they got up there. I'm instantly distracted as Sky grabs my hand, dragging me into the floor.
"Come on, let's dance!" she chants, spinning around before she grabs my hand again.
I smile at her. I'm glad she isn't here to pry single guys from the crowd, to instead hang out with her sister. That's why I'm here.
And admittedly figure out the meaning of my invitation.
Tucking it behind my back, I let my sister sweep me onto the dance floor to maybe have some fun for once.
~Alaya"This is the best night of my life!" Sky chants, throwing herself wildly around the dance floor, knocking into people with no care in the world. Her grip doesn't loosen, even as she dodges people, her ability to correct herself is miraculous. She's lost her mind, but for tonight, I don't mind. The music remained slow, however, Sky found some way to really get into her dance. I followed after, unable to wipe the smile off my face as I watch her. It took me a few moments to brush off the stares we were getting from anyone else before I truly let go and let myself join her.For a blissful moment, I forgot about the audition tomorrow, my downhill life, and even the invitation I had hidden in my bra.The party down here may be the mainstream compared to what may be going upstairs, but compared to the daily grind I'm used to, I must say, this a lot o
~AlayaI'm not sure why my mind decided the man in front of me should have been Alpha Asher. It works in a strange way like that. So when it saw that the man is not in fact Asher, I was oddly disappointed.Instead, the man doesn't have the magnificent golden eyes I had expected. They are the same hazel to dark brown colour that most Desire Pack members sport. He has rather bland features too, however, he is still attractive. He can be as attractive as he wants, it doesn't make me any less creeped out."You left this?" I question, holding the invitation. He must have just come from the party considering he is wearing a flashy suit and his hair is styled aptly. As he glances down at the invitation, I notice the way his eyes cloud with confusion, a slight frown crossing his forehead before he nodded, almost warily.
~AlayaI was jostled awake by someone pulling at my feet.Pulling my legs up to my chest, I groan in protest at Sky's use of her key way of waking me up back when we were kids. She grabs the edge of my duvet before I could pull it straight over my head. My head aches too much for sunlight today."Wake up, would you?" Sky prompts, yanking the sheets right to the edge of the bed so I was exposed.I raised my head to glower at her before I shoved it back into the pillow."We need to talk about last night," Sky insists. This actually sinks in, causing me to finally raise myself up enough to give her my full attention. Last night was the party, full of dancing and clear liquid and...I can't really remember. I don't even remember how I got home, which means I must have gotten blackout drunk.
~Alaya"You've made a mistake."The woman behind the desk sighed, dragging her eyes away from her computer to finally look up at me. I've been insistently tapping her service bell for attention, which she didn't seem bothered to supply."We don't make mistakes," she replies fanatically, clearly trying to get me to turn and leave her office. This is what I get for coming to an information centre for help. My invitation is a mistake, and I've come to clear I up here, with people who directly work for Alpha Asher. At least they say they are. If Asher can handle this woman, then he must be extremely patient."Look," my eyes draw down to her name tag pinned to her neatly ironed teal shirt, "Miss Bell, but I never applied for invitation, which makes this invali
~AlayaThis time, I may have a clear idea of what I want, but I'm still completely drowned in the atmosphere.Being alone isn't really an option, as I stumble into the crowd, shrouded by so many people I could consider them all my dance partner. The musky scent of expensive perfume around me is as intoxicating as the alcohol someone has shoved into my hand again. It's the same clear liquid from last time, which I blamed my lost memory on.I weave my way between everyone's limbs, while trying not to draw attention to me. My plan is to find out who is behind my invitation, or at least why I'm here. The table lined with food and beverages is similar to last year, except it's missing the two girls from last year. They were one of my last memories before everything went blank.
~AlayaI whirled around at the sound of the voice. No one was there, that I could see. Instead, there was a small cut into the building, bathed in shadows. Someone was hidden in there, in one of the most unnerving places possible. If I had been tempted by the drinks on offer in the party, I might have thought I imagined the voice."Come out for some fresh air?"At the man's words, I suddenly became aware of the air around me. This dress may be beautiful, but it does little to protect me from the extremities of a Desire Pack nightfall. Frigid air from the Independence Pack often blows down the mountains, plaguing the air where the buildings and crowds are thinner. Just like atop the hill, where this estate has been built."Who are you?" I question, the heels of my shoes sinking into the grass.I hear a faint chuckle. "Such an empty question considering I dwell
~AlayaI keep glancing behind me; each time confirming that the safe with all the money is actually real.My mind spins with options. I could take the money to Sky, but she would send me straight to the police, who would ask where it came from. The answer is, I don't know. After the party last night - which obviously did not have a memorable enough ending for me to remember it - I feel dazed and delirious. There is no way I intentionally took this money. I even lock my doors and windows at night, so I can't imagine someone breaking in. Who would leave me millions of dollars anyway? Nothing makes sense...So, I'm going to do something terrible. I'm going to get rid of the money.I pulled the car to the side of the road, glad no one else is down here. I would be worried if they were. T
~Alaya"You're lying.""Does it look like I'm lying?"Sky's eyes drag down my dress deliberately, her hand covering her mouth as if I can't see the shock. The dress arrived the day after my invitation did, ready to the party tonight. I decided to open up to Sky for advice. There is no way I would be able make the decision on whether to go or not by myself.I hand the invitation to Sky, and her mouth fell open further. "How? You said you never applied...Did you go to the information centre?""Of course," I say flatly. "This is the third year Sky. The problem is, I can't remember what happened at any of the parties past a certain point. I'm not even sure how I got back to my bed, if I was even in control of that.""Well you have to go to at least find out why-""As far as my memory serves, th
~AlayaI watch a completely naked Asher walk toward the edge of the water, a sated smile on my face.Despite myself, I can't help but roll my eyes.He turns, glancing over his shoulder with a typical boyish smile on his face, knowing what just want on between us, as if he wants to proclaim it to the world. I lie back on the blanket he had set out earlier, ignoring him for a moment. I'm not sure why when I know he won't rest until I'm following after him.I don't know what spurred him to bring me out here, into a wood clearing where he had found a pond of water underneath a small waterfall. It's peaceful out here, compared to back home. The
~AlayaI have no other choice but to go to this party. The message on the other side of the invitation was the most incriminating information on me in this world. It made me feel sick to my stomach, but guessing by the signing off at the bottom, it made sense how this could be known. Naturally, I had to check, and once I had confirmed it to be true, I decided I have to go to this party.I just have to hope Asher will be here. This new discovery, as heartbreaking as it may seem, is something I have to inform him about. As my dress arrives, and I pull it out of its box, I wonder if he would even want to talk to me. He left me as his own decision, which I know is to help me get on with with my life, but after everything that I have been through, I'm not about
~AlayaI'm confused, surprised and also immensely relieved to see Asher in front of me.He looks at me, over my shoulder, then back at me again. I'm surprised he's standing here, confused that he got up here in the first place, and relieved because he's here to save me. I was about to leave and go who knows where, so to see him in front of me wants me to fall to my knees and cry.I had almost accepted I wouldn't see him again."You're safe," he breathes, sweeping a worried gaze across my body, before he focused his gaze behind me, at where I knew Micah was standing. As Asher brushes past me, I can't predict how he is going to respond.I tu
~AlayaI'm not sure what surprises me the most.Sinful is a jerk. I know that much already, though. How he managed to make my plan go from somewhat brilliant to absolute trash that I'm too far deep in to revoke. He always managed to do it in record time - I assume when Asher and I were back in the mortal lands. Cunning. Manipulative. All these things I already know about Sinful, yet it still crashes over me like wave that I may have possibly stepped into a trap. The next surprise to contest the former, is this utter stranger looking down at me. He definitely adds sense to the strange in that word. In some off sense, he reminds me of Fate, and maybe on a far stretch, Fate. That relation is probably due to his
~AlayaThe process is simple.Sinful strides around me, sliding a needle into the top of the small bottle. At least he has chosen a more pleasant way to take my life, considering how little he actually feels for me. We have a plan, which so far, is going smoother than I thought it would.I tore my mind to pieces last night, as I lay beside Asher, hating myself. I'm sure one day he will understand why I'm doing this. Even if it means risking my life, it means saving another. At least I have a chance of surviving. If Sinful goes along with the plan..."Are you sure you are ready for this?" Sinful asks, pausing to stand directly in front of me. I glared up at him, knowing why he is asking t
*Mature Content*~AlayaEvery thought in my mind is propelled backwards into a span of nothingness.I only really read about what happens between mates when they touch. Growing up in the Desire Pack, we grew up thinking the mate bond was a tie down. Everyone thought having a mate was no fun, and that once you found your significant other, your life would only get more boring. But with my lips on Asher's, I know that's not true. The moment my back touches the couch, and Asher looms over me, my mind begins to race. He has pulled away, looking down at me with a blazing golden gaze that could brand me more permanently than the mark on my neck, and a smile taunting, I feel naked already.
~Alaya"Your idea is stupid," Sinful says flatly."Well, I never said it was going to be good. But it is my plan, and I know you will do it," I comment, folding my leg over my knee.My strategy in this situation is to challenge him back. Sinful has me manipulated time and time again, so now, I know what to look for. He has a very easy way of smoothly gaining your acceptance, your trust. Now that I've had all that trust shattered, I know how to best avoid it.The easiest way being to stick to my original plan, and not let him convince me out of it."I'll do it, don't worry about that," he continues, raising a dark eyebrow at me. His gaze is more daunting today with the lavender eyes. "I'm just curious why you're sacrificing your life for someone you hardly know."I knew Sinful didn't actually believe Aspen was m
~AlayaPain. And a whole lot of it too. It's not the average kind of pain either. It sears right up my neck, like the lick of a flame, right to the base of my skull, heating everything up to the point I considered that my body might just explode.I grip tightly onto Asher's hair, not sure how to react. He marked me. I'm his now, and he's mine. There is nothing to change this natural fact that has brought us together as mate. Even if it makes me feel angry, even if it has me completely stunned, this is now a fact. I could both kill Asher and make love to him at the same time. When he finally pulls away, I use both my hands on his chest to push him back.I need some space right now if I have a chance of comprehending what just happened. Thinking back to when I first met the gaze of this golden eyed man, I would have never guessed he was my mate. Sure, our fates were intertwi

Right now, I don't think I would be able to stomach anything. Dawn seems kind enough, however, just the look of Coen makes me nervous. It makes sense that he is related to Kaden by how close their resemblance is.It's just the looks he gives me from across the room. There is something about him that I don't like. I just can't put my finger on it."Tomorrow, we can talk about what everyone's plans are," Myle's says, emerging from the corridor as Aspen just finishes what he was eating. "You both have been through enough. You need some rest."&
