“So, you’re telling me that you got dumped by the person that you like?” Eliot asked me as he was filling his glass with an ice cube.

“Yeah,” I replied and then smiled painfully. “He doesn’t even know that I like him,” I added and brought the glass into my lips.

“Who was he? Do I know him? Does he also work in the hospital?”

“Yeah,” I replied. I almost felt like vomiting when the liquid reached my throat and created a scraping feeling inside.

“Then why didn’t you confess?”

“I can’t,” I replied.

“Why?”

“Because he is already taken,” I replied and drank the reminder of the alcohol in my glass.

We have been drinking for the past three hours and Eliot wasn’t good at handling his liquor. He started to look like he was already drunk because his eyes were always on me.

“That’s sad,” Eliot commented. “Is that why I felt like you were avoiding me? Why do I need to suffer because you were hurting,” he said.

I looked at him and saw that his face was already red and his eyes had become hooded

Eliot lightly brushed his hands over that special place and all I could do was close my eyes. Slowly he parted the folds of my skin and then I felt his mouth press the most intimate of kisses against my clit. My breath stopped at the unfamiliar touch, and then that naughty tongue of his slid from the top to the bottom of that special area causing my blood to simmer. “Eli?” I called out while fisting my hands in the sheets.“I, I can’t, I don’t know,” I began to babble as his tongue continued its ministrations.Lifting his head to me, he placed a finger along my lips.“Sshhh, let me take care of you.”I nodded my head and let it numbly fall back on the pillow as his mouth returned to my center. This time it was coupled with the first one finger and then a second. As the feelings started to build in my body I knew that something big was coming.I was reaching for something and as Eliot concentrated all of his attention with his fingers and his tongue on the center of my body the sens

“We are short of manpower, Artemis. Mrs Stanford will retire in a few days. And she recommended you to me. Please. Stay for a bit until I find someone else,” Melinda said. She’s my building maintenance supervisor. “But-”“Please? Please?” I heaved a sigh. “Don’t worry. I’ll recommend to the higher ups to increase your pay. I’ll convince them,” she said. I couldn’t do anything but to agree and stay for a bit. Part of me wanted nothing to do at this hospital but my wolf insisted that I should stay a bit. She’s not giving up that easily. She wanted our mate, human or not. The end of the week could not come faster. With my final record to be sent out to my king, I know my days are counting down. Most of us Higanbanas were destined to work for the royals or become trainers to different packs all over the world. As for the rest of my batch mates, they are more than happy to get out of the pack, ready just as I am to break free and explore the world. But they have different motives for

Zero’s Point of View“Stop! I-I’m not a spy!” the man screamed as I bit his neck, twisting it, ending his life in an instant. My wolf was in a bad mood. Me and him. It had been like that for damn two years. Damn two whole years!“What the hell, Z? What the hell is wrong with you? You killed a damn vampire representative!” Eion said, my elder brother and the heir to the throne. “He could save our war against the vampires!”“That’s no representative. He’s a damn spy. Can’t you tell?” I growled at him. “You can’t be fooled just by a mere representative,” I said and walked away. “Zero, we’re not done talking yet!” he yelled at me. I’m not in the mood to talk to him right now, especially if he’ll just lecture me about my temper or anything he sees about me. I’m tired of it. “Zero! Don’t you-”“Please! Leave me alone! I don’t want to talk to you!” I yelled back and rode my car. I decided to go to a bar. Jerry’s bar. The place I used to go whenever I wanted to get drunk.“Hmm, you look s

Artemis' Point of viewI was greeted by my Mother’s slap when I entered the house. Her face was red and Dad was sitting on the couch. “You mated the human who has a fiance and is pregnant with their child!” Mom hissed at me. “How could you! Did you throw away the morals that we teached you?”“Mom, I…h-he was-”“Was! Yes! Was! You’re not allowed to see that human again! You are disgracing us! We are dignified wolves, we are not whores! I raised you as a prim and proper lady and then there you go, giving up yourself to your human mate even when you knew he’s about to be a father!?”“Mom, please-”“Understand you? I did. But you never mentioned to me that he has responsibility! Artemis, do not soil our ancestors’ name. Make up your mind. Your dad and I decided who you will pair up,” mom finalised our conversation and I was left crying. Dad looked at me and said nothing. He was just staring at me and sighing. “You know, Artemis. Your mom had supported you about your mate. Please stop i

Eliot’s Point of ViewThat was close. Too close.Damn it. She’s so close and yet she’s too far away. The kiss, the touch of our lips, it seemed so familiar, like I have kissed her before. But I couldn’t remember when. I remember we had a drinking session. We talk, we laugh. I wished I had stopped the time that night. Do I like her? Yes. I liked her because she was the first one who saw me as me. She saved my life. The reason I returned to this town was because I was hoping we could meet again apart from investigating the wolves living in the thick forest of Jura. I love her…I planned to confess to her but then Mia appeared. And she told me she was two months pregnant. And she said I was the father. I was not entirely sure because Mia never liked me. We were drunk, she was crying, telling me how she wanted to run away from her strict father. And it happened. We had sex. I knew it was a mistake. “I’ll take responsibility,” I said. I was not entirely sure if I was the father. I was d

Mia watched me closely, taking in every small movement I made as she sat in the back. How her eyes are locked on me lets me know that something was off.I knew she saw us, me and Eliot. I knewthat the small conversations we had would soon change, and that she would see me differently now. I knew she would no longer think of me as her boyfriend's best friend, but now as someone to be cautious of. Feeling guilty, I left, hurt and tortured, I left. Zero was also acting weird. Was he crazy to growl before humans? Did he intend to tell them our kind? He was stupid. I drove back home only to be sent back to the party’s venue to try and calm the stupid Prince. I heard I was the one who could calm him down. Against all odds, I went back and talked sensed to him, calming his raging wolf even though I didn’t have any idea if I would be able to calm him down. I tried to talk to him, secretly eyeing Eliot who was also looking at me. What was he thinking? Was he also feeling jealous like me?I

Artemis’ Point of View“No way.” My hands were shaking as I read the letter that was for me. This was not the one I expected to receive after going home. “The Prince specifically chose himself to be married to you,” Dad said. “But Dad-”“Mate? No. You don’t have to worry about that.”“Since when did he tell you?” Dad zipped his lips. So Zero already knew this? Since when? When? Was that the reason he was being a dick to me especially when he knew I was mated with a human and that it’ll never be reciprocated? I was his option. Damn him.The next morning, when I saw Zero talking with someone, I immediately walked towards him. Knowing that I was approaching, Zero dismissed his colleague and then smiled at me. “When?” I asked him, trying to calm myself down. “Do I have to say?”“Damn it Zero. Why me?” “Why not you?”Feeling hopeless and frustrated, I ran away."Listen to me, Artemis," Zero called out, running after me as I pushed open the front doors leading to the parking lot. "A

My phone suddenly notified me that I got a message. I read it and saw it was Eliot’s. Jlhe was inviting me for dinner. Zero’s eyebrows furrowed together. He probably knew who was the one who sent me a message so I ignored it.“You know, why don’t you give us a chance?”I heaved a sigh.“You have yet to find your mate. Please don’t deny her. I don’t want to be the reason for other’s devastation. Think about it, prince.”We've already talked about this. And he wouldn’t even listen. “I said I want to marry you. And that’s final.”“But what about your parents? I know they won't agree with your decision as well.”Zero made a “tsk” sound. He wasn’t close with his parents either. I remembered he used to be spoiled by his parents but when he turned to his teen age, he changed. I knew his mother, the Queen, she’s a strong willed woman who never agreed on chosen mates but also a sweetheart who loved her family and people. His father, the King, was also someone adamant on this matter. I heard

A blush creeps up on my cheeks, my head cocking to the side as my eyes widen.Zero had playfully bitten my neck. It means something more in werewolf culture than human. It symbolizes someone's want to mate. It symbolizes someone's want to not only mate, but also claim. He wants to claim me as his. He's moving too fast. Faster than you should as a non-mate. Do I mind? A little because it scares me. It scares me how fast we are moving."Are you okay?" He asks, concerned lacing his words as I nod my head."I'm good, just zone out," I explain, offering Zero a soft smile as he nods."Let's head back to shore."Within five minutes we are back, the music loud as the group has a bonfire going. We walk up to the group, mingling with everyone as I greet people I haven't seen for what feels like ages.Green eyes. Bright green and red hair."Artemis," Mia greets, fixing a smile onto her face as I respect her. She's being mature and not holding a grudge when I would. Hell, if I were her, I would h

  • The Warrior's Mate   Chapter 30: Closure

My mother watches me as I head up to my room, closing the door behind me as I don't bother to lock it. I know he's going to try and get in here anyway. He always finds a way. I can hear them downstairs, wrapping up their conversation as I plant myself into my bed, the covers thrown over my body as I enclose my body in the sheets. My hands fly to my mouth, muffling the sobs that follow as my eyes are filled with tears. I did this all because I love someone else. I did this and have yet to reject him.I can hear the footsteps, how he gets closer every second. I now wish I had locked my door, to at least feel him by two minutes and collect myself. Rolling onto my stomach, I close my eyes, my eyelashes wet as they brush against my pillow. The door opens, his scent strong as he enters the room, striding in as if he owns the place, but I know he's here because he knows I'm in a bad state now."Artemis?"I pull the covers down a tad, bunching the ends just below my nose to hide my trembling

"Just talk when you're ready," I whisper, rubbing his back as I feel him shake, his face buried in the crook of my neck. His lips tremble against my skin, his eyelashes becoming damp as they brush against my skin. Something happened and I don't think I'll ever be able to forgive the future king. I hold the youngest prince in my arms, telling him he doesn't have to talk, to just not hold back anymore. I've seen him cry before, but barely much. Emotions are hard to see from this male, but for me, he doesn't hold back."Art," he whispers, taking in a shaky deep breath. "Can we get out of here? Just run away for a few days? Go somewhere to do something?"He's wanting to run from his problems just as I was doing weeks ago and still am."Why? Where will that get you? A short break from reality? You will only return weaker because you know running will let you escape for a little," I explain, trying to not speak too loud, his hold loosening up. Soon, he pulls away, his eyes red as he nods hi

"Come on," I whisper, placing a soft kiss onto his cheek, helping him to his feet. With an arm around his waist, I led him to my car, helping him into the passenger's side. Getting in, I pull out of my parking space, turning on the radio as a small smile crosses his face with the song that plays. It's a song I've watched him bang his head to and sing along with. He hums to the tone to keep himself calm as I drive, the road lit by my lights as I try to get back fast.As we pull into my driveway, I turn off the car, unbuckling as I lean back in the seat. Turning my head, I met his gentle gaze. "Why?""Why what?" Zero asks, trying not to move his mouth too much as the blood is starting to dry up."Why do that? Why stand up to him if you knew what he would do?"He shakes his head, getting out of the car as I let out a deep sigh. Hopping out, I help him to the front door, telling him to stay silent as we enter. By the time we're in my room, I sit him down on my desk's chair, rushing into

  • The Warrior's Mate   Chapter 27: Confused

"How about I ask you something now," Elior changes the subject. He's not ready to know the truth yet. "What do you think about taking a day off from town and heading to the beach?"It's a four hour drive. I would be with Eliot for four hours one way and going to the beach."I was wondering if you would want to go?"I don't hesitate. "Of course!" He smiles, taking a hold of my hands as we fill the night with conversations about the future and the past. The past holds bitter memories and sweet memories. The future holds bitter memories and sweet memories. "When?""It's in three days.” he informs, leaning back in his chair as I do the same. We look out upon the night, fingers interlocked, "Count me in," I add.Within ten minutes we are back to his car, Eliot helping me in as I kick off my heels for the night, blisters already present. Sometimes being a woman can suck ass. As Eliot hops in and pulls out of the parking garage, we hit a red light, and I take no time to waste as I pull

I stop in my steps, raising an eyebrow as Zero walks forward, his thin black tie still on yet loose, his white shirt with the sleeves rolled up, his tan skin on display as I know that shirt hiss a well-worked body. After all, no one who has been with him keeps anyone from the details that he's got a great body. Hell, it doesn't take 20/20 vision to know that."Tell me that you love only Eliot and no one else. Tell me that no one else holds a piece of your heart except him and you'll never have to deal with me again." I know Zero's wolfsbane mixed alcohol limit, and I know he's drunk himself enough to drown in it. All because of me. All because I cannot be unfair to my mate."Artemis?!"I tilt my head to the side as he stands right before me, his fingers under my chin as I look up at him through my eyelashes."You know the answer," I whisper, leaning into his touch as I offer him a sly smile. "You don't need my answer to be sure in the matter." His eyebrows knit together as I know wh

"When did your feelings for me even start because four weeks ago you were taking the girl Jessica home." Jessica, the raven-haired girl I watched him drive her home after their date."She told me to date him." I raise an eyebrow. “Seriously?”“What? Is there something wrong about dating someone who wishes to be dated?”“Playboy.”“I’m not. I’m a gentleman.”I rolled my eyes at him."And then I realized the strong girl before me who loved her mate so much that she would not interfere with her mate because he was happy with someone else. I realized you were strong, kind, brave, and so much more." He pauses. "Jessica never made it to my house. For I could not drop the emotion of hate for Eliot as I watched what he was putting you through."I shake my head, my eyes tearing up. "I am with Eliot and I need to see if we are going to work.""So you'll think about us?" Zero asks, a ghost smile spreading across his face."I'll think about Eliot and I because he is who I am with."Zero's smil

"Artemis, mates are important, but sometimes, fate doesn't intend for a happily ever after,” Zero said. “Especially for Higanbana. Mates are nothing.”He's right. But I don't want to admit it. My parents weren't mates but paired, even so they loved each other like mates. They were head over heels for one another. Yet again, Zero’s parents are mates and barely survive to mask their true relationship to the pack before. But I will never take my chance for granted. "I've waited for a mate for so long. And that was Eliot," I whisper, my voice weak as I look over Zeros shoulder, unable to look him in the eyes. “I didn't interfere with him and Mia because I knew he loved her. I respected that and let it happen because he deserved that happiness. But now he and Mia are done and I know he is happy."Zero shakes his head, running a hand through his thick locks of hair as I take in a deep breath. "I love him.""What is love?""What?" I ask, rather confused."It's a simple question," Zero ex

Artemis’ Point of View“Wow, this is such a huge forest. The trees are too thick and I can’t barely see the sun,” I heard one of the teen wolves say as she looked up.“This kind of place where vampires roam. They hate the sun. This would be perfect for them to thrive,” said the other one. “And don’t forget about the witches. Ughh. Why does it have to be here?”“Kids these days,” I said, shaking my head."Honestly, I see their reasoning,” Charlotte said as she walked beside me watching the youngsters dislike faces. “That’s why this is the perfect place to train,” I said. “Higanbana is meant to be a warrior and warriors fear no one. We can defend them if those pests appear. Although it's not too common to run into a witch or vamp here because they knew who owned this territory.” Charlotte nodded in agreement, looking out the window to see people around and chatting. By the end of the night Zero will tell all the rules and be on the run for warm ups.For the past week I've gone on a r
