Chapter 96
Unknown POVThe gates creaked open as Asher drove off. It was barely dawn and the faster he gets this done, the better. He needed to form alliances and as much as packs always have rivals, no pack will be stupid enough to fight against Night Reapers.Begrudgingly, Asher admitted that Axel had built up quite the reputation in the years of being Alpha. Some feared him, others respected him.So, if he was looking for alliances, then he would only find it amongst werewolves who are too foolish or simply too courageous to entertain fear. The rogues.Asher parked his car at a secluded corner, the green blending well with the expanse of looming trees and knee high grasses. He began the short trek. His private investigator had flagged this region as suspicious. There were truckloads of food and building supplies parking at this exact area every last Saturday of the month and when theChapter 97Selena's POV "Are you okay?", Axel scanned my body. "I'm fine. I really am", I chuckled, swatting Axel's probing hands. After the incident with Asher, he had lingered long by my side. I sighed, my smile vanishing as I recalled the incident. "Asher's different", I frowned, searching for a better word. "He is spiteful and I am certain he'll try to do something...stupid."Axel nodded. "I know.""You do?""I've known Asher for years now. He is capable of anything and knowing that we were fooling around right under his nose...", he shook his head as though the thought didn't settle well. "He'll do something stupid to show his superiority."I raised a brow, watching his calm expression. "Aren't you worried? Because I am. He may try to hurt Orion or Zephyr and if anything happens to them...""No", Axel stated firmly. "He's stupid but not that stupid. He won't try to harm the kids, I'm c
Chapter 98Selena's POV I took a subtle peek outside to ensure pigs weren't airborne. "I don't understand", I pushed Elsa's hands away, the one that attempted to run a comforting hand through my hair. "Understand what, honey?", my stepmother leaned in, a curious expression on her face. "I don't understand why you're suddenly so nice to me. There must be something you need. Come on, spill."Elsa and stepmother exchanged a confused look. "Don't be silly. Our only worry concerns your health", she sighed, quite dramatically if I may add. "When we heard you ran away, all of us were completely shattered and heartbroken.""Okay...", I let out. "And I'm so sorry for everything I did to you, Selena", Elsa piped in. "I was a terrible sister but now, you can count on me. I'll visit you every single day and we'll be able to mend our relationship as a family."All of them agreed in unison. "We visited
Chapter 99Selena's POV "Reynold", I rushed to the familiar face, flinging myself against him as he caught me easily, patting my back twice. "I've missed you too, Selena. But I think the kids miss me more, right?", he chuckled into my hair. After spending three years with him, I had grown more attached than I expected, hence the reason I'm currently dangling on his body like a monkey while Axel glared at a corner. "I don't think your mate appreciates you hogging me like some tree branch", he whispered in my hair. Reluctantly, I let him go, smirking at Axel's down turned lips. "The kids are asleep and I could've sworn Zephyr grew an inch every day."The growth patterns of werewolves are a bit different than the normal. Instead of nine months in my stomach, they stay for up to eleven months or a whole year. After turning two, they experience the greatest part of their growth spurt and then
Chapter 100Selena's POV "Are you okay?", Axel questioned, throwing me a worried glance. I could only nod, my tongue glued to the roof of my mouth. Reynold's words played around in my head. There was no way, right? I didn't really hold my stepparents in high regard, but the stab of an emotion very similar to betrayal stabbed deep. Axel sighs but remains silent as he regards me. "Turns out...", I began, Axel's attention pinned on me. "...Blake is Lily's mate", a small smile appeared on my lips. I'm happy for Lily. There were times when I feared she might never meet her mate or someone to see just how amazing she is. "I never knew that", he frowns. "Yes. It happened just before I ran off", I shrugged. "They've been taking care of the kids together for such a long time and they didn't even make one physical contact?", I chuckled. "It baffles me."Axel threw me a sympathetic and knowing loo
Chapter 101Selena's POV "I can't believe we're actually doing this."We were in front of a looming mansion, specifically, the mansion I grew up in. Reynold and I looked up at it, varying expressions of dread on my face and curiosity in Reynold's. Axel was busy on a phone call, his brows furrowed as he listed off orders to whoever was on the other end. "All good?", I questioned when he came to stand by my side."Yes. I just needed to take care of a few things", he waved off my concerns. "Are you ready?""Can I truly be ready?", I asked rhetorically. From the shock on their faces, I knew they believed we were the last people they were expecting. Stepmother was gazing into the mirror, observing her face closely in case she catches wind of a wrinkle. Elsa was busy filing her nails, airpods in her ear and her legs propped against a glass table, the same one I wipe almost everyday.
Chapter 102Selena's POV "You were my parents' friends, weren't you?"They exchanged a look as though ensuring it wasn't a trick question. "Yes. We were."I nodded in satisfaction. This was going smoothly. "They never asked you to adopt me, did they?", I narrowed my eyes, paying careful attention to them. My stepmother's eye twitched before she shook her head. "They asked us to take care of you. Adoption is unavoidable.""Wrong. Try again", I smirked. "That's the truth", she folded her arms. I glanced at Axel, before facing her again. "We need to make this conversation as smooth sailing as possible, don't you agree?"My only answer was a sneer but I continued. "Now. I'll give you three strikes. But you've used up the first. So, you have two left", I held up two fingers for emphasis. "After you've used all your strikes, I can't be held responsible for what will happen. G
Chapter 103Selena's POV "What do you want to do?", the question Axel had asked rang continuously in my head. I was still indecisive. As much as I knew that my parents were killed by them, hurting my stepparents in return would never bring them back. And maybe some part of me wanted to believe that I had a good part in me, one that could actually forgive. Except, I couldn't. Over the past week, I had been too occupied with thoughts of my dead parents and stepparents that the important things, like Orion and Zephyr and Lily suddenly finding her mate was at the very back of my mind. After Lily had stormed off upset, the opportunity never presented itself for a one on one talk. And I felt like a terrible friend. Which was the reason why I'm currently searching the pack house for her. So far, I'd asked at least ten servants about Lily's whereabouts but none seemed to know. As a last resort
Chapter 104Selena's POV There were five guards, Axel, Reynold and I marching towards the mansion. Reynold clutched the land documents, a bounce to his step. "You're certain about this?", Axel asked again. He was probably not ready to put me in a state of confusion especially after my sudden decision to lock them up. "Yes. Positive."The house was empty when we arrived, save for my stepsister. Elsa was sitting alone at a corner, her head bowed as she looked at a particular spot, unmoving. "They're not here", a guard reported. Axel crouched in front of a sniffing Elsa. "Where are your parents?", he asked simply. I was certain Elsa wouldn't answer but in less than a heartbeat, she looked up at Axel. "They left", she began. "Five minutes ago. They were headed to the train station and if you hurry, you'll meet them."Reynold threw me a confused look. "How can we be certain she's te
