Chapter 107
Axel's POV I clenched and unclenched my fingers, the anger bubbling in me was beyond anything I'd ever experienced as I looked down at a peacefully sleeping Selena. What Asher did was inconceivable but I couldn't kill him. As much as I knew just how inconsiderate and terrible he has been, a part of me still loved him as my brother. My feet tapped silently against the tiled floor, my mind wandering. Selena had been so scared, I felt it in my bones, now she'll be more cautious and restless in the pack house as long as Asher was still under the same roof. My love for my brother and for Selena were opposite and I was scared. If push comes to shove, how will I choose between one of them? Blake opened the door, not bothering to knock. Part of his body remained outside while his trunk and head was in the room. He beckoned to me. I raised a browChapter 108Axel's POV "I found something", Blake announced, rushing into the study. I had barely sat down, just returning from the trial that the Elders had called. They hadn't decided on the punishment for Asher yet but it bought Blake enough time to find something tangible. "You did?", surprise was in my voice causing Blake to glare. "Did you believe I wouldn't?"I shrugged, not gracing him with an answer. "Well...""Asher hired someone to find the place for him. He was successful and now, I think I know where it is.""Think or know?", I pinned him with a stern look. "We'll figure that out", Blake waved off. "So, they didn't reach out to Asher, Asher reached out to them first."I nodded in agreement. "When do you think we can go check out the area? I can't just take people to fight if we don't know what to expect.""I'd say the earlier, the better", Blake shrugged. "W
Chapter 109Axel's POV We had the base of the Rogues surrounded. Although they were still oblivious to the lurking danger, our eyes and ears were more alert than ever. I raised a palm, throwing silent gestures to my men who spread out, poised for my command. The Rogues were moving about, some trained, others stood guard. There were no weak women or children, as they believed they only needed the best and the strong. Most of them left their wives and kids to fend for themselves in search of more 'purpose'. I sent one of my men in disguise to ensure Rocco was in the camp else all these would simply be in vain.Although it was risky, he returned after a few minutes, signaling to us. I gathered them together. "Our aim is to get the leader, leave him to me and I'll handle him."They nodded in unison. "If he is caught, the rest of this place crumbles."One by one,
Chapter 110Axel's POV We walked back to the pack house in silence, our hearts heavy from the loss of a part of the family. The prisoners were quiet as they trailed after us, their leader, Rocco at the front. He dragged his leg behind him, his hand already ruined to attempt to snap it back in place. "Well, if it means anything, we're really sorry for your loss", he drawled out. "But, technically, you did kill more than half of my men, disembodied at least a third of those left alive and now, we're less than a quarter of our total number", he sighed. "One of your men die and you guys are acting like it's some fucking tragedy. Spare me the dramatics."One of my men lunged towards him but was stopped by Blake. "It isn't worth it", he whispered, loud enough for me to hear. His hold slackened and with one last glare, he turned away from a smirking Rocco, jaws clenching and unclenching. When we stepped into the p
Chapter 111Selena's POV It was the day of Asher's exile. The pack members had gathered, waiting patiently for Axel and I. Although Axel didn't say anything, I could tell how sad he was. His shoulders were sagged, eyes downcast and his smile not quite reaching his eyes. It worries me but I gave him some space, knowing he'd air his worries when he was ready. For now, I stood firmly by his side, acting as an emotional support. Orion and Zephyr were under the care of some servants while we attended the gathering. Asher stood alone in the center of the large hall, the elders watched from the sidelines while Axel and I sat on a large chair, almost like a throne. Mine was slightly smaller than his. Axel stood, causing the murmurings to stop. "Night Reapers, today I appear before you with a heavy heart. I have decided to exile my brother, Asher, for a series of misconducts done against, not just me, bu
Chapter 112Selena's POV I found I could breathe a lot better with Asher gone, even when the guilt of Axel weighed me down. He didn't say a word about Asher after he left, but it was like a thick cloud hovering over his head. "Technically, things are working out well between us", Lily confessed, her brows creasing. "I think?"Her voice pulled me out of my head. "I'm glad to hear that", I mustered a smile, truly happy for her. "And what do you mean by 'you think?'", I made air quotes around the word.Lily sat up. "I think we're making some progress. He's easier to talk to and super patient too."I smirked. "Aww. That's super cute", I drawled out. "Yeah?", she perked up. "Now that Asher's gone, you must be so relieved. I am too. The air seems a lot easier to breathe in.""Tell me about it.""You don't sound happy", Lily pointed out, her eyes boring into me, daring me to lie.
Chapter 113Selena's POV The mating ceremony was one of the best celebrations for every pack, especially when it involves the Alpha. Preparations were already underway and I was feeling a bit overwhelmed by the situation. Every pack member recognized me, some even went as far as calling me Luna. I didn't hold the title yet, well, technically I did but not officially. I was growing a bit familiar with the title by the number of times I had heard it from the mouth of others. Axel decided to make the celebration grand, hence he extended the invitation beyond the pack house, right to other packs. From my calculations, at least six to eight Alphas from other packs will be in attendance. "Luna", Lily called out, cackling as I threw her the best stink eye I could muster. "Will you stop that? I've heard that so many times and I don't think I'll ever get used to it.""You better do it. No one will call yo
Chapter 114Selena's POV Asher arrived a day before the ceremony. He wasn't particularly hostile towards us, nor was he friendly. He had a somber expression and I couldn't tell if that made me happy or uncomfortable. "Welcome", Axel led him to his old room, the space had been cleaned and dusted in preparation for his return. "Thank you", Asher answered, stepping into the room. He glanced around, drinking in the space before returning to us. "It has been cleaned", he pointed out. "Yes. We had it cleaned for you.""Thank you", Asher nodded curtly. "I'm tired from the journey so I'll just take a bath and rest.""Sure", Axel and I shuffled out of the room, shutting the door after us. We heard his footsteps gradually recede, then a door opening before shutting firmly. With our exceptional hearing, the shower was turned on. "Is he usually that calm?", I asked Axel after we were close to our ro
Chapter 115Selena's POV "Get up", Lily's voice jarred me from my peaceful slumber. I watched her lazily with one eye open, too sleepy to speak. "Come on, Selena. We haven't got enough time to prepare."I pushed her hand away, groaning as I took in my surroundings. "Prepare for what?"She looked at me like I had just grown an extra pair of heads. "For your ceremony", she tapped me quite painfully, eliciting another groan from me. "Can you just leave me alone?", I asked, attempting to fall back into bed. It was barely dawn, so I wondered why she was disturbing my sleep. From my random guess, it'll be at most four am?"No. Get up from there Selena. Right now", her voice hardened, taking on a stern note. When I didn't move, she grabbed my leg, yanking me right out of it. "What the heck is wrong with you?", I whined, glaring at her with wide eyes. "Great. You're
