Chapter 2

I left school and headed straight home. Pulling in the driveway I notice my mother unloading shopping bags from the car. I hop out and grab as many bags as I can and take them inside. Looking at all the food she has just gotten I ask " What is all this for?" she looks at me and mutters " We are having guests over tonight for dinner" there was something off about that way she looked at me. I brushed it off and asked if she needed help putting things away, she shook her head no and motioned for me to leave her be. Walking away Tia pops up and says " Well that was strange did you see her look?". Tia is my wolf, we've never shifted before, she tells me we are not ready but in time it will happen. "There was nothing wrong with her I tell Tia, She is just trying to put the food away stop thinking too much into it I tell her." "If you say so," Tia says as she fades back into my mind. 

I bumped into my brother in the hall, "Watch it small fry" he growled. "What's with you Dillion?" I ask, "Nothing, I am going for a run I will be back before our guest arrives," he says as he rolls his eyes. Dillion has always been the center of attention although I am the oldest by a year, he has always been the chosen one. He effortlessly glides by in life always impressing our parents as for me I had to work twice as hard just to show them that I am just as good. I make my way to my room and close the door behind me. I lay across my bed and open my binder and start my homework. I am not sure how but I had seemed to have fallen asleep, jumping up I realize it is 4:30 pm and dinner was at 5:00 pm. I quickly jumped in the shower and gotten dressed. I scrunched my hair and put on just a hint of mascara. By the time I was ready, it was a little past 5. I opened my door when I was met with a wave of an uneasy feeling, almost as the house was full of tension. I made my way down the hall and rounded the corner to the stairs. The smell of mom's pot roast and dinner rolls made my stomach make this horrendous noise.

As I made it to the dining room I see an older man dressed in a crisp dark blue suit and beside him was a younger man who looks to be a little older than me wearing a dark gray suit. Both looking up at me I gave a small smirk as the overwhelming feeling of anxiety set in, just then my father stood and introduced us holding his hand out "Kaedence, this is Alpha Harrison and his son Devllin" my father says as I shake their hands. As Devllin shakes my hand I hear him take in a deep breath I look at his eye and they're a deep blue then flicker to black and back to blue. Pulling my hand away Tia chimes in "Well ain't he just a cutie?" Hush, I say. He is the son of an alpha he will pay us no mind. I turn to excuse myself heading towards the kitchen to help my mother.

I could help but notice how irritated my mother seemed I asked if she was okay and was met with a reply of " Kaedence dear, I love you and always will please do not ever forget that!" Looking puzzled she then asked if I could help bring dinner to the table. Setting the Table I couldn't help but notice how Devllin kept looking at me, inhaling me as I leaned beside him to put some pot roast on his plate. Taken back I quickly turned away almost bumping back into my brother. "Gezz small fry, I told you to watch where you were going" a small huff left my lips and shoved past him. I found my seat at the other end of the table beside my mother, listening to my Father and Alpha Harrison talk about each other's packs they began talking about traditions and what is to become of Devllin as he is getting ready to take over as Alpha. 

Dillion chimes in and says " I cannot wait to work with you once I take over" I scoff as all eyes turn to me I note that since I am first born I will be taking over the pack. Dillion laughs and says "you guys haven't told her yet?" confused by what he meant I ask what he was talking about. My father then silences that both of us and my mother grabs my hand. My father looks at me and said "Our pack has had the same tradition for many moons. Each firstborn of alpha will have an arranged marriage into the strongest pack of that pack Alpha's choosing." His words slowly echoing in my head and starting to disappear Tia chimes in "What the hell is he talking about?" filled with rage she is pacing in my head. I snap back when I hear my father call my name "Kaedence? Did you hear what I said?"
