Chapter 5
Ariel My stomach grumbled the moment I stepped into the café. I didn't bother to look at the name because I wouldn't be staying for long. Grabbing a bite of any burger they sold and gulping down a cup of strong black coffee to keep me energized was my goal and as soon as I achieved that, I'd take a train that would take me to another state. My heart thumped hard against my chest with panic. I kept passing glances, hoping that no one was trailing me. It was past noon and if my calculations were right, the wedding should be over already. Though Guilia had asked me not to worry about her safety, I couldn't help the fear that sprang up each time I thought about her. Turning back and going home looked like a good option, but that would make me a coward and make all of my efforts to escape look like a joke. After ascertaining that I wasn't being followed, I walked to the stand and ordered a cup of coffee and a plate of hamburger. Fortunately, the café was quite empty save for the staff who worked there and a few customers littered around. Most of them had their attention glued to their laptop screens, probably working and here I was wishing to disappear from the surface of the earth. The waiter winked, flashing a flirty smile in my direction. "Please, be patient, Miss. The burger is been heated up." He informed me even when I didn't ask for it. I ignored his flirtatious gaze and tucked my hair behind my ear. "Oh, thank you. I guess I'll have to wait," I mouthed, searching for a table at the secluded part of the café where I could hide and enjoy my meal. His fingers brushed against mine when I made to leave and I narrowed my eyes, fixing a puzzled look at him. It was obvious he didn't know who he was dealing with. If he did this in Chicago where I came from, he'd have lost his hand; however, this state wasn't under my father's jurisdiction and he could do as he pleased. He quickly put on an innocent smile and giggled. His weird acts were irritating and I couldn't wait to leave. "You could sit here and wait until your burger is ready, besides, I'd love to know the name of the beautiful lady standing before me." I chuckled, angrily, but he didn't seem to notice because he still had the fake sweet smile on his face. This was the point where I wished everyone knew who I truly was so that they could avoid me. Not wanting to sound rude, I patted the back of his hand and snatched the plate and cup of coffee. "Don't worry, I'll tell you my name the next time we meet." I scurried towards the empty table I'd found and settled down. Getting sick with worry, I reached for my burner phone which was in the pocket of my baggy shorts and boom! I was greeted with a message. My stomach churned and my heart did a double flip when I saw Guilia's terrifying message.Chapter 6ArielI had thought that staying with a man I knew nothing about would be difficult, but it was the opposite. There was a strange kind of peace that washed over me each time I remembered that I was a bit free. It's been five days since the marriage debacle and Guilia and I haven't stopped exchanging texts. Though she continued to assure me that everything was fine and I didn't have to bother about her safety, I still felt that she was hiding some facts from me.Knowing who my father was, they'd keep searching for me until they found me, but it was great to know that they might not consider returning to the café. Not until I was gone. While engrossed in thoughts, Lilia, the mean chief baker, trotted into the kitchen and dumped the tray that she had used in keeping the burgers that she prepared on the sink, wearing a huge scowl on her face. She glared at me and snorted. "Why are you lazing around? Don't you know that you have to do the dishes and attend to our customers?" She
Chapter 7ArielI clutched onto the edge of the chair tightly and sucked in air. His eyes glinted with mischief, showing how much he enjoyed toying with my emotions.I puffed out a nonchalant sigh and swallowed. "There's no home for me to return to. I'm fine where I am," I retorted. He let out a chuckle and leaned on the backrest, folding his arms. "Look, young lady, I don't know why my brother is hell-bent on marrying a little girl like you. All you've done is to cause us trouble and interfere in our plans so you'd better obey me now that I'm asking nicely or your father would bear the brunt of your obstinance," The smile on his face disappeared."And I'll also maintain my stance," I replied stubbornly, raising my chin. "You called me a little girl which I am and I keep asking myself why you all are so insistent on forcing me into a marriage that I'm uninterested in. Your brother is a beast who has no regard for anyone and I can not be with him," Fury took over me and I slammed my fi
Chapter 8Ariel"Where's Freud?"I hated that I sounded vulnerable and weak, but he didn't deserve whatever he was going through right now. He might have been flirty and weird at first, but he was a perfect gentleman throughout my stay in his house.Maybe five days weren't enough to discern who he truly was but it didn't matter anymore. These cruel men had him tied up and probably beaten and it was all because of me.I should have run away again, yet, I stayed back and now someone's life was in danger because of my stupidity. Fresh tears cascaded down my cheeks and I tucked my head between my thighs.Guilia, I thought about her and shivered, wondering what they might have done to her to make her give up my location. I didn't care about the pact she broke, I just wanted her to be fine.I wanted all of them to be safe, and that was why I had to change my mind about my decision.I felt a finger, tucking my hair away from my face and I flinched, shoving his hand aside. "Don't touch me," I

It was unlike me to interfere in family issues but with the little troublemaker about to get beaten right in front of me, I just couldn't stay still."You can't hit her while I'm here," I reprimanded him with my Capo's tone.He clenched his jaw and snatched his wrist away from me. "This is family business, stay out of it," He growled in anger and I understood the reason for his annoyance.Butting into his business like that made him look weak, but I wouldn't stand him hitting my fiancée, not while I was here."And she's to be my wife. Need I remind you that we'd have been married if you didn't let her slip away from your sight?"He propped his arms against his waist and sighed in agreement, nodding his head. "Tell me, Dmitri, did you find her in a compromised position? Did that fucker lay his filthy hands on her?"My blood boiled with anger at the thought of her sleeping with a
Chapter 10Ariel"Where's Guilia?" I asked the moment Mama flicked the light switch."In her house," Her tone was curt. "You put her in danger, Ariel. Have you lost your mind? Why did you take such a risk? What if you have died," She scolded me."That would have been better," I murmured inaudibly. I trotted to my once comfortable bed and flung myself on it, straddling my pillow for comfort. This might be the last time I'd set foot in this house so I tried to capture every image I had of it."I should be asking you and Dad the same question, but there's no need for that because I already have the answer," I replied angrily."I'm still your mother," She rasped, her voice sounded hurt but I ignored it. There was no rude word I'd utter that would match the grave sin she had committed against me. "Are you?"Her lips parted slightly and she sank onto the bed, fiddling with the bodice of her cream lace dress. "Hearing you speak to me like this breaks my heart so much, but I can't even rep

My plans were very simple to execute; first, I had to ensure that Liora was still alive then I'd ram my favorite knife into the balls of the motherfuckers who thought that hurting my daughter was the way to get to me."Please, slow down, Dmitri. I'm about to puke," Ariel's scared voice tore through my reverie, and then I remembered that I had a woman with me.Not just any woman, my wife.Even though I didn't like her, this wasn't the best way to enjoy our wedding night. The woman I assumed to be her nanny bowed and excused herself from the room while I paced around, running my fingers through my hair and wondering what other secrets he had. "So let's get this straight, you are masked for some reasons unknown to everyone, including me, and now you have a secret daughter that you didn't bother telling me about? What do you take me for?" I yelled, slowly losing my cool. "I told you, Ariel. Don't allow your feelings to get in the way because this marriage is nothing but a mere alliance.
