SURPRISE AND DELIGHT

WRITER'S POV

The bedside alarm clock clanged.

Lawrence’s eyes fluttered open. He reached towards the bedside drawer and quickly shut the alarm off.

He actually hadn't got a need for the alarm clock. His body knew when to wake up, at least he felt it was so the last months. But for some reason he hadn't found the chance to permanently turn it off.

He blinked and rolled to the edge of the bed. And sighed. Same room and alone, again.

It was already morning but for the first time in a long while, his body was reluctant to get on.

Time was slower than it had ever been. It was past five months but it felt like it had been nothing short of a couple of years.

Lawrence couldn't have been more certain that the universe was punishing him for his sins.

Veronica was away. It was supposed to be a few months of being away but then it had stretched into more than months.

He barely saw her the whole time. A few of the weekends she had dropped by but always left again.
