Chapter 122

—JENNIFER—

A deadly silence prevailed on the dinner table as the sudden tension replaced our appetite. A whole minute passed but no one uttered a single word.

I slowly looked up from my plate to Christian and found him staring at me, frozen in his seat. I bit my inner cheek, going nervous under his stare.

“ I-I’ll go get the desert.” Mom cleared her throat quietly and stood up to ease the tension.

“ Dad, care to explain?” Anya spoke up, demanding an explanation from her father.

“ I'm sorry, Jennifer.” I looked up at Matthew as he spoke up. Guilt was visible in his eyes.

“ I'm really sorry for how I forced you. But I'm not sorry for what I did.” He sighed, looking at Christian.

His stare turned into disbelief at his father's words.

“ Dad?” Anya protested in disbelief.

“ If this is the outcome, why would I be sorry for what I did?” He said, gesturing between me and Christian. “ I could see this from a mile away. So no, I'm not sorry about it.” Mathhew shrugged nonchalantly.
