If I could only make myself invicible, I would! I couldn't relax in front of my computer because I kept thinking of the embarrassment I did before. Of all the things that guy could bring, why an adult magazine! I wiped my face intensely.
"Girl, are you okay? You had a problem with that before. Did you give up here? Did you get tired? Did you get scolded again? I can help you," Rose asked worriedly beside me.
"My stomach hurts," I lied. "Wait, I'll go to the toilet."
Rose nodded but still watched me walk away from her. I walked to the water station and got one, I was paralyzed when drinking water, I smelled again the scent that was familiar to me. My body stood straight right away.
"Are you sure it's not overlapping, Adrian?"
Next to it was our boss in the department. I took a step on the side to give them some way. Sir Adrian also fetched water and gave it to Mr. Esqueza.
"I keep checking it, sir. I still don't know the reason why there are delays in some products," Mr. Esqueza replied with a nod. "But I will ask my department to trace it."
"I'll give you a week," he told him. "And if you can't give me any valid reason. I have to replace you."
Like a puppy Sir Adrian begged. "Sir, don't. I have a family. My wife is pregnant. I will do everything to see what is causing this delay."
"You should," replied Mr. Esqueza seriously.
He glared at me. I looked away while the paper cup was im between my lips. I'm still ashamed of what happened earlier.
"You can leave, Adrian," Mr. Esqueza commanded.
"Yes, thank you, sir," like a slave following the boss, Sir Adrian left hurriedly.
It was only the two of us. I was waiting for him leave too. But he didn't move. Mr. Esqueza looked at me. I was still playing the paper cup in between my lips, ignoring him. It was really scary when you're around with him alone. Just like this moment.
"You should be working not wandering around," he said, cracking the silence.
See? He's been in a good mood lately and now it seems like I did him wrong again and again.
"Yes, sir. I just went here to get some water," I replied and was about to leave when he spoke again.
"Did you tell your brother what I've said earlier?" he asked teasingly.
My forehead furrowed because he seemed to know something in my life that I didn't know. "We haven't talked yet, sir," I said.
"Were you fantasizing those women? Are you?"
My eyes widened. "No, I'm not! It's just a coincidence that they asked me to buy it for him! I'm into guys."
"Do you have a boyfriend?" he asked, straightfowardly.
Why is he asking? I don't want to be assuming, because I'm not the type of woman he'll notice.
"No, sir. Career first is my priority now," I answered. "Guys are just headache. I don't want to get one."
His eyes glistened then turned dark again. "Good then, I have to go. See you around, Iris."
He walkd out as it I said something good because he was smirking. Iris? It was a pleasure to hear him mention my name. I felt like we were close when he called me by my name.
My co -workers walking out from the office, I quickly hid the thrill I was feeling and went straight to the restroom.
As I sat on the toilet, I took out my cellphone to scroll through my f******k first but Anya's name popped up on the screen.
ANYA: It's so boring here, Iris! I should have left with you there! Grr!
I raised an eyebrow. My ever sweet sister, who always forget to call me her sister.
ME: Hello, Ate Anya. Yes, I'm fine. How about you, Mom and Dad?
ANYA: I heard Mommy crying earlier because Dad found out something. Someone helped our Mommy pay off our debts! But the problem is, Mom saw that interest is quite high! Dad grabbed it since it's a lifetime to pay! OMG this life! I am so over it!
ME: Stop them. I'll do my best to pay for it even if it takes few more years of my life. But do me a favor. Ok?
ANYA: You will order me again. Ugh! What?!
ME: Find out the name of the person the owed. Check the paper so I can contact the person because I know that Daddy will not allow me to help.
ANYA: Are you going to sell your body?!
ME: Stupid! Does it look like I can handle that?
ANYA: Of course! And where will you get a million? Sell your kidney too?!
ME: Hurry up, you won't have that problem!
ANYA: Let me think first! Bye.
I sighed deeply. I don't know what to do first. I was thinking of texting Miggy because his family were wealthy. I knew he would let me borrow any amount as long as we just got back together. Should I sell my freedom for this? Was it worth it? To forget my values so I could save my family? I don't know anymore...
"Are you sure you'll finish all that? There's still next time, sis. Don't be a super woman. You might get sick," Romeo reminded me.
Rose and I are on our way home, actually there are still other people but it looked like we were alone.
"My family's living in province so it's okay. No one's waiting. I don't want to get notice again by Sir Adrian. I'll just finish this first instead of doing nothing at home."
"When you move into my condo, we'll go home together, ah?" Romeo said, I'm planning to live with him since we were bestfriends for a long time.
They hugged me first before leaving then hours had passed, the lights were shutting down and I'm all alone in the middle of this office. I stretched first and started typing again. Even though I was so tired, I still forced myself to finish it. I rested my head a little and closed my eyes, I was having migraine already.
"Why are you still here, Ms. Villafuente?"
I was about to fall into my seat when I heard that voice. "Sir," I said nervously. I got up from my seat to pay respects. "You scared me."
"You didn't answer my question. Why are you working this late?"
"I still have things to do."
"Does anyone asked you to work this late?" his forehead creasing. "Did Adrian tell you to finish all that?"
Actually, he didn't say anything. But he always scolded me for being slow. I didn't want to be stressed anymore so I did everything I could so that he wouldn't get angry at me.
"No, sir. It's my initiative," I bit my lip. "But I'm going home. Ten minutes."
"You should, it's late. I don't encourage my employees to work this late. As much as possible I want them to maximize their time on their tasks within working hours."
"Okay, sir. But let me finish this --- "
"I said go home. Who's your boss? "
I sighed. "I'll just get my bag then turn off the computer, sir."
He shut his mouth and took a step back. He was watching me turned off everything and fixed my things. Although I was not comfortable, I did my best not to stumble.
"Do you have a car?" he asked, while waiting for the elavtor door to open.
"I don't have a car, sir," I told him honestly.
He was quiet again. We both entered the elevator, embracing the awkward silence between us. I was slowly nervous in his presence. So I held on tightly to my bag to lose my attention with him.
When we walked out from the elavator, I was already freezing when the cold breeze of air welcomed us outside. I was surprised when Mr. undressed. Esqueza his suit and laid it on my shoulder.
"Here, you're freezing. Don't go home this late next time. It's not safe especially you're alone. "
I gulped, my heart fluttered. He left me speechless again. Before I could even think of an answer, there was a black vehicle parked in front of us. I knew this was his Mercedez. His driver came out and handed they key to Mr. Esqueza.
"I'll go, sir."
I was starting to walk away when he pulled my hand and leaving me with no choice but to enter his passenger seat. I swallowed up again by what he did. He shut the passenger's door and walked on his side. I slowly put my seatbelt on while my hands were trembling.
"Sir, you know I can take a cab. You don't have to take me home. I don't want to waste your time. " I told him when he was putting his seatbelt on.
"You are under my company, it's part of my responsibility," he casually said.
He had already started the engine. I was holding tightly to the seatbelt infront of me. I don't know what to say or do. I was scared and nervous of his presence at the same time.
"You live alone?" he asked after a while without speaking.
I gulped first. "Yes, my parents decided to live in our province just a few days ago. It's way cheaper to live there than here."
"How about you? Where do you live?"
He slowly turned to me. My eyes still focused on the road. "In the house they left. But I'm planning to live with my bestfriend since my parents sold it already."
"Who's friend?" he asked, curiously. "A guy friend?"
"Yes and no, he's gay. Romeo, my co -worker too."
He looked so sexy driving this car. The way he moved the steering wheel and how expert he was doing it was turning me on.
"Don't you have any other place to live?" he looked at me intently when he stopped on the traffic light.
I shook my head. "No, sir. But it's okay, Romeo's a long time friend of mine."
"He's still a guy," he pointed out. "And I think he values privacy as much as you do. It's important to have your own space, you're free to do what you want."
I looked at him. He was watching me when he started driving again. "I wish I could, but I'm sort of out of budget because.... my family needs my salary than I do."
"In debt?" he asked, as if it was no longer a surprised.
I nodded and we both fell silent. I was thinking of that problem again how do I start my making money. Is it possible for me to pay that much?
I was just dumbfounded at the window while thinking and I didn't realize we were close to where I lived.
I creased my forehead. "H-how did you know where I live?"
"Your resume," he said and didn't explain further more. "You okay here?"
Mr. Esqueza stopped across from our house. Even though I was confused, I didn't look back because I wasn't going to win any arguement with him.
"Yes. It's okay. Thank you so much for driving me home, Mr. Esqueza. This is so thoughtful of you."
"It doesn't happen often," he told me, shutting my kindness.
Mr. Esqueza looked uncomfortable. I stepped outside but hadn't close the car door yet.
His suit still hanging on my shoulder. "I'll wash it first before returning it," I told him.
"You can have it."
God, Mr. Esqueza smiled a little. It was a teasing smile. Oh, how his mood changed. I didn't know if I could keep up with it.
"I would love to keept it," he was still staring. "But it's a joke, sir," I recovered immediately. "Thank you so much, be careful when you go home."
I watched him drove away. I was still thrilled when I entered the house. I smelled his suit, his smell was so almost addictive!
Shit. I was in cloud nine feeling already. I couldn't believe he drove me home, I mean, what for? I didn't want to assume he liked me.
What would he liked about me? My face was normal unlike him, he could date a super model if he wanted to.I erased all that thoughts. This wasn't the right time to compare. I leaned against the door and slowly a smile appeared on my lips again. I was still imagining things and fantasizing our future would be if there would be a chance between us.
But not too long, my cellphone rang that stopped me from daydreaming. I took that out from my pocket. I saw my sister's message which made me freeze into place.
ANYA: His name is Zachary Levi Esqueza. It's okay now?! K. Bye.
It was like my happy bubbles popped all at once. I was shocked and angry at the same time. I don't know what his motive was. I know he knew they're my parents, I also know he had a plan why he did that. But really? A triple interest, for what?I couldn't sleep a wink that night. I don't know what confrontation I will make with him. I was now infront of his office, talking to his assistant."Can you please tell him that I'll wait here for a few more hours?" I begged, I was holding his black suit. His assistant eyed it, and raised her brow a little. "I told you to go back to work and I'll call you once his schedule frees up today.""This is really important," I insisted.
We had a civil wedding the week after we talked. It was just the two of us and his bodyguards who also stood as witnesses. I guessed they even signed a waiver not to tell others about this. They were all quiet just like usual, they also helped me pick up some of my things from my house since Mr. Esqueza told me that I didn't need to bring all of my things. The car stopped infront of a huge house. My mouth hang opened with the nice design on the outside. It was a black coated mansion. His bodyguard opened the car door."Here we are, Ma'am Iris. Welcome to your new home," the driver said to me with a smile.I got out of the car, still looking in front of the house. "This is where Mr. Esqueza lives?""Yes ma'am."He accompanied me on entering the house. It was really huge and white, I knew he was minimalist since there was very little furniture here, some corner were empty.
Weeks had passed, I somehow survived living with him. I didn't have a hard time because he would always came home late. He was always in an out of town meeting so we hardly see each other anymore. I somehow missed talking to him. That's how it is when you live in a big house, you could have anything you wanted but still feel lonely. Sometimes I think that maybe he was avoiding me or maybe he regrets that he choses me?"Hey, sister!" Romeo shouted at me in confusion. "Goodness! Why are you being called upstairs again?!"My mood seemed to lighten because after a few
"You can do it, Iris. I know you can. Just be yourself, okay?"I was talking to myself almost half an hour. I kept telling me that I didn't need to be that nervous. I memorized their background informations again and Mr. Esqueza is also there. I knew he would support me when I didn’t know what to say to the question I was being asked."Is my dress too short?"I was overthinking while checking myself over and over agai
When we entered the room, his dad and his grandmother were sitting infront of a long table, they were busy talking so they didn't notice we entered the room. There were foods, fruits and different cocktails. Their maid put another set of food on the table while holding a tray. This family was really expensive. I can't keep up tonight. Everything I memorized seems to be gone.I heard the door open again behind us. My chest throbbed again when I smelled the unfamiliar scent so I knew it was his mom.
"Can you be more careful and responsible next time, Irisian Marie?" he asked, his voice's mad.Shit.He was really angry.Did just call me by my first and second name? He called his bodyguard to get the contract for us. He even checked the CCTV in the office if anyone saw the paper I left on the table. Good thing, no one!I was checking it the other day because I was thinking what is it really about. I would have signed and handed it over to him in the office that time but I suddenly forgot! He reprinted the contract since it was already save in his laptop. We are now in his library which is also inside this room."I'm sorry I forgot about it. I'm really about to give you that but I truly forgot since I've been doing alot of things lately," I replied
My whole body went cold at what he said. This was another first for me. Why am I always surprised everytime he said something like that? Maybe because we were in a getting to know each other stage. We walked on the court, I wandered my eyes. I still can't believe what I see. He pushed something and the roof above was moving slowly, transforming it into a covered court."Amazing isn't it?" Zach whispered. He walked to the area where the balls were placed."I know you are rich but I never thought that a place like this existed," I commented.Zach took the ball and he started dribbling it. When was the last time I played basketball? Only in the gamezone often but the latter was when I was in college.
There was a bridge after their court. It was connected to a forest, this place was really big. You won't really hesitate to walk around and worry that you might get lost because almost every part has a light attached to it.I'm out of breath because we've been running around for a while. I'm not into trekking, I didn't like any physical activities so my body really gets tired. Plus, I still can't fully recover from what we did before."Aren't we going to take a rest? I'm almost tired," I complained. We walked hand in hand in the middle of the forest while I was wearing only his clothes and he was in his pants."We're almost here," he said. "Patience, Iris. Patience."He turned to me when I stopped walking. "I'm tired," I repeated. "And hungry."I looked around, it looked like there was no other place we could go. I could hear a small whooshing sound from afar, it looks like there is a beach in the distance."We just ate, I
