"What the hell, Alex?" His sister's voice boomed through the emptiness of his room as soon as she opened the door. "Where the hell have you been?"
He groaned, sitting up on the bed. To be honest, he knew this conversation was due. He had returned in the wee hours of the morning from Jasmine Place and sneaked back into the house, being careful not to wake his parents or his sister. He knew Rose was going to lecture him on yesterday's events, and he wasn't really looking forward to it. He had a good time after leaving the Shadow Pack lands and felt at peace after spending the night with Jasmine. He was in a good mood, and he wanted to maintain it that way.
"Nowhere,", he replied carelessly.
"Nowhere?", she scoffed. "That's funny because I don't remember seeing you at home last night."
Alex sighed, avoiding her eyes. "None of your business, Rose."
Rose narrowed her gaze. "Did you...Did..." She closed her eyes, irritated. Alex was an even bigger idiot than she initially thought, if he had indeed done what she thought he did.
"Alex, please don't tell me you visited Jasmine.", She said, her fingers rubbing over her forehead. She knew she was right when she received silence in return, as an answer to his question.
Alex's answer was on the tip of his tongue. Yes, he wanted to say, I visited the woman I want to spend my life with. But the words died in his mouth at the disappointed look on her sister's face, and he felt guilty. He didn't know why, considering he hadn't done anything wrong, but he felt guilty. Probably because his little sister had never looked at him the way she did then—a look that said that he had let her down and that she was extremely disappointed in him. He gulped, unable to say anything. From the day he had memory, Rose had always looked at him adorably. Even when his parents were upset with him, she always looked at him as if she were proud of him. Seeing her look at him in a contradictory way shattered Alex's heart.
"Rose.", He started but was cut off.
"No, Alex. I can't believe you did that."
"Why shouldn't I see her, Rose?"
"Alex, you're engaged." She said it as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.
"Yeah, to a person I'm not in love with..."
"That doesn't give you the right to be unfaithful."
"Jeez, Rose, I'm not even married to the woman yet."
"Your wolf counterpart has been bound to her, Alex. In a way, half of your marriage is over."
Alex sighed, walking towards her. "Why do you not like Jasmine?"
"Seriously? You're asking me this question? "
"Yes, I am seriously asking this question.", Alex stared. "It's not like you just started disliking Jasmine; you've been pretty vocal about your disapproval since we started dating." He reflected on how awful Rose and Jasmine's first meeting had been. The atmosphere was filled with tension as Rose refused to make conversation with his girlfriend, only grunting when necessary, sparing only a few glares. In fact, now that Alex thought about it, he recalled that his sister had barely spoken more than two words to Jasmine, except for when she gave her a shovel talk that left Jasmine really scared.
"I don't trust her,", Rose said, throwing her hands up.
Alex spoke, his voice laced with confusion. "You don't even know her, Rose."
"I know the history of the pack she belongs to, and I know who her father is. That speaks volumes to me as to why I shouldn't trust her." She shook her head. "The funny thing is how you know the same things I do and you still believe Jasmine's words like a fool."
"Rose, come on, not that.", Alex rolled his eyes.
"No, Haven't you ever thought of the possibility that Jasmine could just be a spy for the Starlight Pack? They did try to overtake us once."
"So? Jasmine wasn't involved in the revolt back then. Why would she be involved now?"
"I don't know. Maybe because her pack and her father humiliated the alpha, I need to remind you of us."
Alex knew where she was coming from. Ordon had challenged his father's rule twenty years ago. Alex was just a toddler back then, and even though he hadn't seen the war that went down in person for kids being kept safely during the tenure, he knew the important details. His pack suffered great loss while Starlight were defeated shamefully. There was almost no one in the Starlight pack left that was strong enough to fight, many having died and others being injured. His father had only pardoned Ordon when he pleaded forgiveness, and the forgiveness had come at a great cost.
Losing the battle meant humiliation. Losing most of the pack members except a few and being pardoned to live life at the mercy of someone who defeated the alpha was considered worse than death itself. Those who remained in the Starlight pack left, joining other packs, and Ordon's wife, Luna, killed herself after the disgrace, leaving him alone to look after Jasmine.
Alex felt really bad when he heard about what happened to his lover's mom. He felt guilty. After all, his pack was the reason why Jasmine, who was a toddler at the time, grew up without knowing the compassion of a mother. But he knew it could have been avoided entirely if Jasmine's father had simply not thrown the first blow. And Jasmine understood that, thankfully.
Alex had liked her from the minute he laid eyes on her, and it hadn't changed at all in all these years. When he fell in love with her, he wanted to right the wrongs that had happened during his father's reign, starting with the Starlight Pack and starting with marrying Jasmine. But of course, then Shadow Pack and Ashly James had happened.
"God, Alex, get your head out of your obsession with Jasmine for a second and think.", Rose shouted, clearly frustrated, "I get that you're in love with her. Trust me, I do. And I know that it was unfair of dad and mom to have asked you to marry someone else when your heart belongs to another. But you shouldn't have accepted the proposal to unite the packs if you didn't want to get married to Ashly."
"And what? Disappoint mom and dad? Give up my rightful place as the future alpha? Has everyone been questioning, rioting, and resisting my decisions when I do become the alpha?"
"You can't please everyone, Alex. It's either Ashly or Jasmine. It's either becoming a respected leader or a leader who isn't regarded."
"Rose, I have a plan..."
"Yes..Yes...I know. Seth told me all about your stupid plan. I don't even know who you are anymore, Alex. You're willing to let an innocent person get hurt just because you want the pack as well as the jasmine. Since when did you become like this?", Rose said, lowering her head and not meeting his eyes.
"Rose... I don't want to live an unhappy married life. Is wanting that selfish?", Alex said, his voice cracking.
Rose sighed, looking down. Maybe she was being a little too hard on Alex. He was doing what he thought he should for him, and she couldn't blame him for wanting something for himself once after being selfless for so long. But she couldn't just let this be. Something felt off about Jasmine to her, and she sure as hell wasn't letting Alex get into what could possibly be a trap. When Alex and Jasmine started dating, Rose openly showed that she wasn't okay with it. But Alex had put her in place, saying that it was his life.
Even if Jasmine was indeed a good person, Alex would be hurting Ashly by staying with Jasmine. And Rose didn't want that. She knew Alex didn't want that, either. Even if his actions could hurt Ashly, Alex would never forgive himself for hurting an innocent person. She looked at Alex, who was now sitting on the edge of the bed with his head in his hands. She sat near him, placing her palm on his shoulder, slightly patting. Alex looked up at her at the gesture, removing his hands.
"No, Alex. It's not selfish to want that,", Rose rubbed his shoulder soothingly. "But you shouldn't let Ashly get hurt because of what you want."
"What would you have me do, Rose? I can't cancel the marriage now. The ritual's already done,", Alex groaned.
"Give Ashly a chance. It's not her fault that this peace treaty happened. She seems like an actual nice person. Are you sure you want to hurt her like that? Do you think you can live with that for the rest of your life with that on your conscience?"
"I love Jasmine, Rose,", Alex said, tears filling up in his eyes. "How am I supposed to live with another omega when she doesn't have my heart?"
Rose hugged him immediately. Alex wrapped his arms around her waist, silently sobbing.
"You need to let go of Jasmine, Alex. It'll be hard, I won't lie... But it's the only way. If you can't, then cancel the mating. There will be consequences; be prepared to face the heat. You have two choices, Alex. I'll support you if you don't want this marriage. Please just make the right choice. At least that way, an innocent omega who thinks highly of you won't be harmed."
Alex looked at the floor between his feet, bowing his head down in shame at what he said to Ashly.
As if his sister had listened in on his thoughts, she said, "I know what you said to Ashly."
Alex looked at her face in shock. Rose nodded, smiling sadly. "Do you think she deserved to be spoken to in such a way? To be told that she would never have the heart of the person she was going to spend the rest of her life with?"
Alex frowned. That wasn't all he had told Ashly. Maybe Rose didn't know the entire conversation.
"The sacrifice to the moon goddess has already been made, and the marital ritual's done. Your wolves are bonded. The alpha in you will seek out the omega in her. Ashly Omega will seek you out. Denying primal instincts is risky for the both of you."
"I can restrain my wolf within me,", Alex shrugged.
Rose threw her hand up in frustration. "What are you going to do when Ashly goes into heat? You can't control your wolf, then, Alex. Every cell in your body is going to be telling you to claim Ashly and mate with her. What are you going to do then? Go to Jasmine and relieve yourself. Cheat on Ashly? Run away from your duties as an alpha to your omega, which includes helping her out during her heats."
Alex sighed, burying his head in his lap, wanting to cry. Of course, he wasn't going to have sex with Jasmine after getting married. He may not be in love with Ashly, but he wouldn't do that to another person. Like Rose said, their wolf counterparts were already connected, meaning Ashly would feel what he was feeling through their bond and vice versa after he marked her.
"Think twice from the point of view of Ashly before you act, Alex. She's coming into our pack blindly, trusting you. Do her justice.". Rose gave a final piece of advice.
"What you're trying to say is that I have no choice whatsoever—that I'm stuck with an omega I haven't loved for my entire life. I have to make love to an omega who my heart doesn't desire. My pups are going to be born through loveless mating."
Rose sighed. She understood Alex's dilemma. "You could grow to love Ashly." She tried to reason.
"My heart belongs to Jasmine and Rose. I could never love someone else."
"Monika, Ashly." Brandon shouted. "Come on down! There's someone you have to see." "God, why is he shouting in the morning?" Monika groaned, walking out of her room, her hair like that of a bird's nest making Ashly squint away her drowsiness just so she could get a clear look at her sister. And when she did, she couldn't resist laughing, making Monika let out a growl at her, before she carded her fingers through her messy hair, trying to smooth down the tangled strands, before they walked down the stairs, both wanting to know why their dad was yelling for them at 7 in the morning. They walked together to the living room, and they looked at their father, in front of whom another guy stood. And they squinted before the said guy turned around, and they both squealed, "ADOM!" "Surprise." Their friend stated before holding his arms out, knowing that the next moment Monika and Ashly were going to strangle him with a tight hug. "Curse you, Adom! I missed you so much." Monika rushed forwar
"Ashly, you look amazing." Monika said, staring at her sister, who was wearing a red, black-striped glittery long dress with a royal black sequined coat over it. She knew when Ashly picked out the dress that she was going to look amazing in it, but actually seeing her all ready for the big event brought tears to her eyes. "Of course, I do." Ashly laughed. "After all, you're the one who did my make-up." She smiled at her teary-eyed sister. She hugged her, gently shaking her head. "I love you, Ashly." "I love you too, Moni." Ashly gently patted her back. She pulled away, smiling at her and blinking away the tears before her makeup could be ruined. "Oh shit." She said as she noticed the time on the table clock in the tent assigned for Ashly in the gardens of Branson Manor. "Mom asked me to give this to someone before 4. It's half over already. Shit. shit." She pointed to the file that contained papers about the two-pack agreement and their peace treaty. "Moni, calm down." Ashly said
"What are you doing, sitting here alone?" Monika asked the blond-haired man who sat by the pond, his blazer on the ground by his side. "Just sitting. Crowd's not really my scene." He answered when he looked at her. "Really?" She asked. "I would have pegged you for a love-the-attention kind of guy." "Oh, believe me, I am. I just don't want to steal the newlyweds' spotlight." He joked. "Cocky, I see." She smirked. "Is that how you talk to an alpha?" Seth's eyes hardened, and Monika was scared for a second. "Sorry...I.." She stopped when Seth's brow furrowed. "Relax; I was just teasing you." He chuckled. Monika relaxed. "Oh." She sat down near him. "Yeah.." "So you're not like your friend, then?" She said, bringing up her knees to the chest. "Who?" Seth asked, confused. "Alex," she answered. "Alex is not that bad, either." Seth said it gently. "Try again," she said, smiling sadly. "Monika, he's not." "Seth I don't know if you know what Alex told my sister or not, but if you
Alex wouldn't look at Ashly as he walked past her, down to their bedroom. "I'm going to another country for some packing business." "Of course you are! You always run to your problem, don't you? You spent our whole time outside when you couldn't give an answer. You call things off almost every fucking time when we want to talk to you, and no, that's still not enough time for you? What about Ashly, Alex? What about your mate?" Rose yelled through the tears pouring down her face as she watched her brother pack a bag of clothes quickly. She can hear Ashly sob from outside. "I just need time to think. Jasmine tries to help me sort things out, and I think I should go," Alex said, grabbing his toothbrush and throwing it in his bag. "I'm sorry," Alex mumbled to his sister, quickly walking out of the bedroom and down the hallway, not meeting Ashly's eyes. "Alex, Alex No, don't go; cancel your work; think about Ashly," Rose begged, following Alex down the hallway. "Please. Alex, stay here. T
Rose gave Ashly a gentle smile and followed her brother, and when she entered Alex's room, she could see how frustrated Alex looked. "Ale-" "No, I need to do this. I was stressed, and there were so many things going on in my head. Jasmine was not talking to me, and my Alpha didn't let me sleep peacefully. I can sense Ashly's sadness, and I don't know why, but I despise myself for all of this, Rose. Why did I do this to her, to Jasmine? Rose I can't love anyone except Jasmine. She is my life, and Ashly, I really don't know what to do or say to her. I thought I could fix this, but how can I play with Ashly with our bond? Even I don't like her, and I don't want her." "You slept with Jasmine on your wedding night," Rose asked with a stern voice. She and Alex both had tears pouring down their faces, and if Rose thought she felt sorry for Ashly when Alex walked out on the very next day after marriage, it was nothing compared to how she was feeling now. "Yes, and I did. I am sorry, Rose. B
It was a typical work day at the pack house for Ashly. On the right of her desk sat a mug (lacking tea) and a frame with her family picture in it. To the left were some reports that needed her signature and review. She usually checks on food, children, and women. It's her duty as Luna to take care of everyone in the Moonlight Pack. Everyone really loves her and accepts her as her mate, but Ashly already knows it will never happen. For her heat, she is already taking pills; she really doesn't want to disturb Alex. She grabs the first draft and flips it open. "Trading yesterday,", it read. She was reading about an Omega woman who was a bit of a pessimist, but that was only because she had been diagnosed with a brain tumor. Her Alpha had left her several months before, and now she spends most of her time in the hospital. Life could be rather horrible, Ashly thinks. She is on the fourth page when she places a check near the title, marking that this really needed to go to her mother-in-l
On Monday, when Rose and Ashly went back to pack house, Ashly went directly to her office, and Rose saw when Alex came home late as always. It's been about a week, and Rose didn't say one thing to her brother. On Thursday, he ate on his own and watched TV. Traning himself and taking an extra class of pack pups, Rose knew how much stress it put Alex under. He needed to get done what he needed to get done, or else he'd be a grouch. Rose wasn't sure when Alex arrived home because he had dozed off on the sofa with the television on, and the sound of the microwave woke him up. Alex didn't say anything. Ashly also didn't discuss much more than packing business and went back to sleep in her room. It's like a routine for both of them, Monday to Friday. "I brought you some coffee," Rose says, setting the Starbucks cup on Alex's desk. "Everything alright? You've seen a bit off all week." She sits in one of the comfortable chairs on the other side of Alex's desk and sits crisscrossed. "Thanks
It had been 45 minutes, and Jasmine still hadn't replied to Alex's text. So instead of resting in his room, Alex came to Jasmine's place, in her room. Her room is warm and welcoming when he walks in and kicks off the uncomfortable shoes that make his feet smell weird. He sighs loudly and does exactly what Seth said to do, changing into some sweats. When he enters the bedroom, the bed is still unmade, and sitting on the dresser is Jasmine's cellphone. That would explain why she never answered, Alex thinks. The phone buzzes, and Alex wonders who could be texting her while she is at work. Curiosity gets the best of him, and he glances at the lock screen. Are we still up for tonight? I miss your face, and lunch isn't enough time to spend with you. Everything in Alex sinks to the floor, and his stomach feels like it has been punched repeatedly and multiple times. He recognized the name, Jace, and knew it was another one of the Alphas of the neighbor pack. Jasmine told him about her and J
By the time Ray arrived at the Downtown, the tavern owned by his 22-year-old childhood friend, Alvin, it was only a quarter to seven. It was still so early; there were only two patrons there, sitting at the bar. Henna was their bartender. RK, another friend of theirs who also worked with RK, was setting up the stage. It was jazz night. Alvin was at the bar, cleaning some of the glassware. Ray went to the bar and sat in front of Alvin. The older man took one look at him, raised an eyebrow, and said, "Well, you look like shit." "I feel like shit too." "What happened?" "Milly pregnant." "Ah," Alvin said, now understanding Ray's troubles. "You knew she was pregnant, didn't you?" There was no accusation in his voice, just resignation. Alvin nodded. "Of course I did. I think everyone who knew Milly knew. This town is not really a big town. People gossip." He took a bottle of beer from the shelf behind him and pushed it in front of Magnus. "Here, have some. It's on the house." "Thanks
In his room, Ray changed and sat on his bed. His phone lay in front of him, and he stared at it. He didn't want to admit it earlier, but he knew Jane was right. But it had only been a few months, and everything was still raw. He loved Milly, and he still does. He had been in a few relationships before Milly, but he never loved someone like he loves the omega. It wasn't just some Alpha lust. And he knew Milly hadn't moved on either. After Milly broke up with him, Ray spent weeks stalking Milly through F******k and I*******m since the latter wouldn't answer his calls, not that Milly updated much. In fact, Milly's F******k relationship status was still "in a relationship". That gave Ray hope, and he continued to stalk Milly's social media updates until Jane, Jack, and Tommy held an intervention. He wasn't allowed to obsessively refresh Milly's I*******m account or F******k page in the hopes that Milly would post something regarding the two of them. Once he stopped stalking Milly on soci
Both of them got up on their feet, and Milly threw away the pregnancy test and cup in the rubbish bin under the sink before washing her hands. She followed Mai to the kitchen, and Mai told her to help herself with any drinks she wanted. She took a soda for the Mai and was about to look for something for herself when the smell of cheese hit her nose. She was hit by a bout of nausea and quickly excused herself and made her way to the bathroom in the hallway between the dining room/family living room and the second living room, where they entertain guests. By the time Milly returned, Mai had set everything up in the family room. On the coffee table, there was a bowl of popcorn, a plate of crackers, and a pot of tea. The cheesy nachos Mai made earlier were nowhere in sight. "How do you feel about the Marvel movie marathon?" Mai asked as she held out three DVDs. "I just bought a collection of Marvel movies." "Sure." Milly wasn't that interested in Marvel, but she knew quite a bit because
Ray laughed before removing his robe and boxers. Then, he continued his meditation on Milly's jaw while his hands started playing with Milly's boobs. He trailed kisses down to Milly's neck, nibbling on it, biting it, and marking Milly while pinching and twisting the reddened verginia with his fingers until she became a complete mess. When he trailed kisses down to Milly's chest, he replaced his fingers with his tongue on one of Milly's boobs. His free hand, on the other hand, moved down to Milly Verginia. It was already wet once more. Milly whimpered when Ray gave his attention to her other boob, circling the hardened nub with his tongue. She whimpered, "Please, Ray. Enough foreplay. I want to feel you inside me." Ray straightened up and shook his head. "No, you deserve the best, love. And because it's your first time, I am going to make sure you feel thoroughly loved." He dove down again and trailed kisses down Milly's torso. His tongue dipped into Milly's belly button before he rea
On any other day, Milly would have been amused by the deer-in-the-headlights look on her boyfriend's face. However, today was not like any other day, so she walked into Ray's bedroom without a laugh, with a frown on her face instead of a smile. "Milly, hey," Ray greeted his girlfriend. He quickly sat up on his bed, his legs crossed. "Why are you here?" Milly had her hands crossed over her chest. "Shouldn't I be asking you that question, Ray? You said you had practice today. The funny thing is, Shine told me practice was cancelled." Shit, Ray thought. He forgot that Milly was friends with Shine too, and she always talked to him and Cecily on the phone. The excuse he gave Milly when the final class ended was the first thing that came into his mind before he all but ran out of the classroom. "Sorry?" he said, although it came out more like a question. Milly sighed and climbed onto the bed. "Why are you avoiding me?" Ray forced out a smile. "Who said I was?" "We've been together for
"There's no threat here. I'm just trying to show you that my brother and I are more useful to you alive than dead." Eliott seemed to take in his words for a moment before talking again. The more he considered Ray's proposal, the less focus he put on keeping hold of his brother. If he lost control and became totally distracted, maybe he wouldn't be able to keep Shine under control. Maybe he could free his brother and get Shine to fight alongside him. Apart, they were nothing more than trained wolves with no real fighting experience or skill, but at the bare edge of their full potential. Together, though, they might be enough. They might even be unstoppable. It was a long shot and probably a stupid idea. It was also the only idea he had, so Ray would make it work. "Even if I believed you, how can I know they won't kill me as soon as they find us?" "You must know a defense technique that is strong enough to prevent that." Ray shrugs, trying to appear casual. "Also, my parents value o
The first time Ray ever met Shine, he came back when he heard about his Omega brother. When Ray entered their home, he saw Shine, who was just a mess of pale skin and fancy pajamas on his dad's lap. At the time, of course, he didn't think about being an Omega big brother. Ray was just scared and confused about how he was going to take care of his omega brother. Everyone around him was talking and smiling, and he didn't understand. Nothing made much sense at all. Ray knows the meaning of Omega in this world, but society still doesn't accept it. His own mother is a big example. When Cecily was born, Ray was relieved; she was born as an Alpha, but now... His dad snapped him out of his daydreaming and smiled at him as he came to offer his hug, then offered him a look at the boy in his arms. Even though Shine was already 3 months old back then, he still loves Ray and Cecily's scent. Maybe it'll make him safe, and Ray will make sure to protect him all his life. Seven Years Later: Ray f
Alex and Ashly didn’t write their own vows this time. This time, they just repeated whatever the fake prince told them to, and they swapped the same rings they already had on. Alex even pressed the button on his bouquet to make it sing the wedding march. It was very tacky and nothing fancy. But their friends were there—their family. It was perfect. Monika was tearing up in the front row, with Rose soothing her from the side and smiling at Ashly like she was proud of her. Adom and Seth gave them a thumbs up, throwing confetti over them when they walked down the aisle afterwards. It was a spur-of-the-moment, I-dare-you-to-do-it decision on their part, but Ashly thinks that it doesn’t matter. Because if Alex is really happy with them, he wouldn’t say no to anything. “I thought it was lovely. Priest even sang a few lines from ‘Can’t help falling in love with you’.” Monika comments when they sit on a bridge, looking over the Vegas lights. Her legs dangle over the edge, and she’s hol
They sit in the huge living room, complete with a flat-screen TV that takes up a whole wall and a fountain in the middle of the room. Ashly just knows that Shine would've loved that fountain. "So, we need—Monika, where'd you get that?" Alex eyes Ashly's sister, who's sipping a new cocktail, this time a mai tai. "There was a bar downstairs, duh." She waves the yellow drink at them, lounging on the armchair. She looked stunning as ever in her black glittering dress and black stilettos. "Are you sure you don't want to slow down? What even is that?" Seth asks and comes closer to sniff at the cocktail. "Mai tai. I never mix alcohols, and today is a rum kind of day." Monika responds, ignoring the first part and giving Seth a sip. "That's actually good." "I thought men only drank brown liquids." Adom teases, and Seth flips him off. "People," Alex gets their attention effortlessly, his ringed fingers catching the light from the great chandelier on the ceiling, his voice commanding. "Th
