He was forced to sit down near the pilot side of the ship, the door began to close and Rainer couldn’t help but stare at the ground he would never see again.

“Is this all there is? Is this how it ends for me? Thrown aside like a rat by my own race.” He thought to himself. “Fine, then I hope you all suffer with me.” Anger began to flood his body, he continued thinking about how he wished he could kill the type of people who landed him in this situation.

The small ship began to soar towards the larger one, and in almost no time at all they had landed inside the ship’s hangar. He was escorted to a dark room with metal walls, where they provided him with new clothing to wear. His new clothes were similar to what the guards were wearing without armor. A white short sleeved shirt and white pants to match.

He felt like a prisoner being prepared for an execution, although he tried to keep calm and not show how frightened he was. Once his clothing had been changed, one of the crew dressed as a doctor, walked in with a large needle.

In a monotone voice the doctor tried to calm Rainer. “Please be still, this won’t hurt but it will if you move.”

“I’m not fond of needles, would you mind not coming near me with that?” replied Rainer with a nervous smile. The doctor ignored him as the chair Rainer was sitting in automatically locked him in with metal straps. Unable to struggle, he closed his eyes tightly, waiting for the needle to pierce through his skin.

The doctor gently pushed the needle into Rainer’s left wrist, he screamed loudly at the pain. “I thought you said this wasn’t going to hurt!” he yelled loudly.

“I may have lied to reassure you, but we are done and you are still alive, for now.” He tapped the spot where he had inserted the needle. To Rainer’s amazement, a bright blue light began to glow and then faded.

“What did you do to me?” he asked with concern.

“I simply embedded a chip inside of you, not to worry, it won’t do anything harmful. It’s just there to track you throughout the tournament and serve as a translator. The chip number is also your contestant number for part one of the tournament, you are number seven hundred.” The doctor explained.

“What does it matter? I’ll be dead soon anyway.”

“Nevertheless, you are a contestant. I have another patient to attend to, so if you would be so kind as to not be a rough guest, I would greatly appreciate it. Oh, and there is a message waiting for you on the monitor.” With those words, he left the room and the straps on the chairs released Rainer.

He was free to walk about the room, there was not much in there aside from the chair in the center and a bed in the corner. The monitor was attached to the wall near the bed, a blinking light caught his eye.

He tapped the light and the monitor turned on, it was a video of kids he had known on Earth, those who he protected. The camera turned and a familiar face showed itself. The face of his father, a man with long messy red hair and a thin choppy beard. He was smiling as he spoke “Well Rainer, it looks like I finally got rid of you. These spacemen said I could leave a message to you, so I thought the best way to send you off would be to tell you how everyone here voted for you.” He laughed hysterically “We all want to see you fight for your life! Make it a good show.”

Some teenagers in the corner looked away from the camera but one of them said “Sorry Rainer, he threatened us, and well, you always would have given your life for us anyway. So, it’s just sooner than it would have been.”

“Isn’t that hilarious!” The man laughed.

The monitor turned off as Rainer punched the screen screaming, “How dare you! I hate you! All of you! I’ll kill all of you!” it didn’t break but he hurt his wrist. However, he wasn’t able to feel the pain over his frustration.

There was plenty of time to think, and all he was able to think about was how he felt betrayed. Even those he had trusted had abandoned him and left him to rot like an already dead carcass. For the next few hours, he tried to tell himself that dying wasn’t so bad. Unfortunately, every fiber of his being told him to live, wanting to die was easy to say but not easy to accept.

He lost track of time, but was greeted by a new guest. A guard in blue armor and a visor covering the top half of his face, entered with a sword strapped to his waist. “So, you’re the fresh meat? They were right, you don’t look like anything special.” He teased.

“And who are you?” asked Rainer, trying to hold back any rude remarks.

“I’m your guard, from now on I will assist you in getting ready for matches. Well, not that you’ll live long. Unless you have some hidden power by any chance?”

“Not that I’m aware of, sorry to disappoint.”

“Shame, you don’t see it.” whispered the guard so Rainer couldn’t hear. “First thing’s first, I need you to sit down on the bed so I can check to see if the chip is working.”

Rainer decided not to argue, and sat down on the edge of the bed with his left arm resting on his leg. The guard walked over and tapped the chip, it began to softly glow. Suddenly Rainer began to feel sleepy, he couldn’t keep his eyes open. “Wha- what did you do to me?” he managed to say.

“Don’t worry, I’m just checking on your blood.” said the guard as Rainer’s head fell on the bed.

Rainer awoke to find himself laying in a comfortable bed, within a luxurious room. Holograms displayed the events and festivities that were currently occurring across the Coliaran Empire. He immediately jumped out of the bed and ran over to the door. However, he was unable to open it with his hands and no doorknob was available. A button on the side of the door began to blink, and the door slid open. A long hallway stretched out before him. “Where. Am I? This isn't the ship.” He walked out and began to head towards the end of the hallway where he could hear the distant sound of cheering. Following the sound, he was able to find the end of the hall and an entrance to a large area where many people were gathered. To his astonishment, there were odd creatures of all sizes and shapes, everywhere he looked. “Wh

The guard sighed at a tired Rainer “Good enough for today, I guess go get some rest. Oh and there will be an announcement tomorrow morning, just follow everyone else to the arena where it will be held.” “Whatever.” With that, Rainer left the arena and made his way back to his room. His body was aching all over, and the bruises were still stinging. He fell on the bed, barely able to move a muscle to turn over, so he laid there staring at the ceiling. “What am I doing?” he asked himself quietly. “I just… I shouldn’t be here.” He covered his face with his arm, closed his eyes, and his last day on Earth began to play on his mind. The way everyone’s faces looked happy as he walked away handcuffed, and how the ones he protected turned on him. Rainer gritted his teeth trying to hold back tears. “How little did I actually mean to all of you? Because you all meant so much more to me.” The resentment in his voice made him feel sick. “What do I do

The guard turned the corner, and down the hall was met by someone dressed in pure white cleric robes. He had loose and messy silver hair with a single strand braided that stretched to his waist. His appearance was that of a human male, and was quite handsome. The guard stopped in front of him. “Don’t you think it was a bit harsh to punch him like that? He might lose motivation thinking he lost to a mere guard.” said the man with a soft voice and smile. “My mission is to train him, and with the tournament only a few days away he has to learn quickly. Would you have done it differently, Merlin?” “Well I would not have punched him, maybe whacked him lightly with a stick.” “And that’s why I came along, you’re too forgiving when it comes to this. Even with me you were too soft.” “You needed little convincing, Arthur. Well never mind that, do you think

The knocking on the door now turned into heavy banging, like the sound of a fist hitting a wall. Rainer walked to the door and let out a sigh, hoping it wasn’t the guard. Unfortunately, it was, and before he could say a word, Rainer was dragged down the hall by the collar of his shirt. “You’re twenty minutes late!” “I. Can’t. Breathe” He muttered, choking on the collar of his shirt. Arthur let go of the collar and watched Rainer gasp for air. “You don’t keep your elders waiting, that's rude.” “I just overslept because of your training! My body isn’t used to this kind of intensity. I’m still in pain from two days ago, and the pain from yesterday hasn’t even reached my nervous system yet.” “Either you willingly follow me and train, or I drag you there and whack you with a stick.” “Fine.” Rainer grunted as he got up. They made

Rainer clenched his teeth tightly. “I can… I can choose anything?” he quietly asked, and the Phantom nodded his head. “Ever since I was a kid, I wanted to be free. Free from that man and that life. I knew nothing about life, I only knew how to bring destruction. I could never save anyone because my freedom was taken from me. If this is where I can be different, where I can change?” His mind began to clear "I can change! Everyone on Earth voted for me to be here and that was a mistake. They set me free from my prison.” Rainer stood back up on his feet, wiped away any tears from his eyes, and confidently looked towards the peak. "Every day of my life, I was chasing after a promise that I wasn't able to fulfill. Now I have a chance to, it's my turn to chase after a future that I can be proud of! Live or die, I'll at least go on knowing I made my own choices in the end.”

The audience's cheering and chanting could be heard echoing from the arena to the entrance of the waiting room. Rainer pushed the button on the wall and the door slid open. The cheering was louder than he thought. He walked out of his room and down the hall, the louder the cheers, the more his chest began to tighten. "Well this is just great; I have an audience cheering for my death. Wonderful. Come on Rainer, fake some confidence!"He thought to himself. Rainer finally reached the end of the hallway, the open entrance to the dirt arena was right in front of him. The guard in blue armor walked up behind him and nudged him forward. "Get going, skinny, we have others who need to use this arena" he taunted Rainer. "Any chance you could tell me who my opponent is?" A small pause fell between them and was suddenly broken with a simple “No.”

Rainer had fallen asleep the previous night after deciding not to stress about the results of his match. He felt somewhat refreshed from the sleep, however it wasn’t enough to get rid of the pain his muscles were feeling. Groaning and wincing, he managed to sit up straight. “It all hurts. I don't want to go back out there, but if I don't, I get the feeling these guys will kill me for it.” Rainer sighed and took a look around the room, thinking of how he would be able to escape if it were a normal room. “No windows, one exit, and a closet. What happens if there's a fire? Do I just suffocate from the smoke and burn in the flames?” Taking one last look around, he noticed a medicine bottle on his bedside table. Inside were half yellow, half green pills. Rainer reached for the bottle, and read the instructions on a sticker attached to the side. “Take one for fatigue. Take two for

I need to be faster, but I have limits and can't be as fast as these guys. The only other thing I can think of, is to somehow get him to lower his guard. I have to provoke him!” Rainer gripped his daggers and walked forward towards the lizard The lizard stared at Rainer with an intense glare "I'll end this, with the next attack." He declared with confidence. The lizard man charged at him, this time Rainer was ready, he swung his daggers in front of him to stop the attack. There was nothing in front of him, the lizard had run behind him. His four swords struck at once, Rainer managed to run forward but was a little late, he had taken a cut from two of the swords. With that dodge, Rainer followed up with a strike of his

The minotaur roared, lifted its sword above its head, and struck down with all its might. A loud clunk could be heard across the arena. Rainer had lifted his sword and blocked the attack while somewhat leaning up from the ground. The minotaur lifted its sword once more and roared loudly. Rainer opened his eyes as the blade came swinging down, he rolled to the side and dodged it. His scarlet eyes gazed at the Minotaur. Almost as if it was frightened, the minotaur began to back away from Rainer. Those eyes seemed to pierce through you if you looked at them. His face was expressionless, but it instilled fear in most of the audience. The minotaur grabbed its sword and swung at him, Rainer jumped into the air above it, and cut one of the horns off it

Kinda like having a tactical knife."Rainer began to walk out of the closet and quickly made his way to the elevator that would take him to the arena. Once he arrived at the entrance to the arena, he found Arthur waiting for him. “Well if it isn’t the lying ass" said Rainer with disdain. “It was worth it to hear you panic," Arthur laughed. They both stared at the arena and the cheering crowd. "Congratulations. This is your last fight before you can head off to the second round. Your next opponent isn't going to be easy like the last two. This one is a monster that will tear you apart and eat you. Literally, eat you." Rainer stared at him in disbelief “You’re kidding, right?
