Emily’s POV“I want to take part in the training lessons” I blurted out to Luke as we stood afar watching some of the men train together on an indoor track. He looked at me with his eyebrows raised and a quizzical expression that could only mean one thing. “You do? Why?” I blushed, looking away from him and down at my feet while fidgeting with my hands. “I don’t know… I just wanted to be trained and be able to protect myself” I mumbled quietly. Luke reached up and patted me gently on the shoulder with his hand before taking a step back, looking up into the air as if contemplating something. After several seconds he spoke. “Alright then, I suppose it won’t hurt too much to let you in for now, will it? But we will stop once it gets too intense, especially with your situation” His tone changed when he said the word ‘situation’. “Thanks, Luke” I smiled at him gratefully. We both knew exactly what he meant about me being in ‘a precarious position’. From afar I noticed the red-haired
Luka's POV“Who brought him back?” I asked the guards.I needed to get to the bottom of this one for all, someone brought him back. It started with whoever brought him back. The guards stared at me as if I was speaking in a foreign language. “Who brought what back Sir?” They asked back in unison. The two men were identical twins, both blonde and blue eyed. Both had a look of utter bewilderment on their faces. What happened to these people? I wondered as they looked at each other. What was happening here that no one had reported it before?“Who brought Alfred back after he was attacked, who was it?” I said again. My voice rose louder and sharper than before as I grew more frustrated. If no one was talking about anything then I might as well take matters into my own hands. I wanted answers and the only way I could get them was through the person I came here for. The guards looked away from me, each one fidgeting or looking at anywhere except my face.Their silence answered my questi
Luka’s POVI buried my face into her chest, closing my eyes tightly and inhaling deep breaths of her floral scent that filled my nose as well as the room. For some reason, it took me back to those times when I was seven, fourteen, seventeen when I was losing it and she came through for me and I couldn't help myself but take a little deeper breath every time she hugged me. The sensation of having her there, with me, made everything seem brighter. Made the air around me smell sweeter and less bitter. It was the feeling that came from hugging a mother, that was what Claire's hug did to. The old woman patted my back gently. The world had lost its sharp edges for me, and my worries slowly faded away. After a while she released me.I could see the tears in her eyes when she did.“Everything is going to be okay, I promise” She sounded so sure and all I wanted to do was cling onto those words“Thank you” I whispered, I meant it. I stepped away from weird, like I had given my vulnerability aw
Luka’s POVFor two weeks, we all took turns in looking after Alfred- Claire and I. I realized that maybe I had been too selfish to to realize that Alfred and Claire had something going on? How had it not dawned on me? Why did it take me so long to realize? The healer's presence was now a normal thing in the house. She would go from applying different lotions on Alfred to chanting different incantations over him trying different charms or enchantments that might make her recover faster. We didn’t know how to deal with the fact that she could do so much without asking us to help, but there were no real problems for us, and none of complained. Today, she was burning dry herbs at Alfred's bedside. The smell was awful – I could tell by the healer’s expression that it was bothering her – but it wasn’t hurting her, so we tried to ignore it as best we could while she chanted. At some point, her lips moved more than usual, and then her entire body shook like she was having an epileptic fit.
Emily's POVIt was the same dream over and over again.Luka was bleeding, the rope digging into my flesh was also making me bleed and I felt so weak , the blood loss was taking too long but the adrenaline rush was keeping the pain at bay, the fear at bay. When he took his final step towards me, I thought for certain that he was going to kill me right then and there and it would've been okay but not with Luka lying on the ground in the pool of his blood like that.He had put up a good fight but was no match for this man who was a master of sorcery and whose strength and speed were unimaginable. After he was done with Luka, he turned to me.“Now that you know that no one else is coming to your rescue, can we continue from where we stopped?” he had blood all over his face and sick grin he wore made me shiver and the feeling of unease in my stomach didn't disappear.‘No one else is coming to your rescue...’ My breath caught as he walked towards me again, his gaze never leaving my face whi
Emily’s POV“Harder!” My trainer yelled. My body was weak and trembling, my limbs screaming in protest as I pushed myself to the limits. The weight of my entire body was on one leg, the other stretched out over a large piece of metal that was bent down slightly.I adjusted my boxing gloves for what felt like the hundredth time, wincing at the way they bit into my skin. It would be nice if there were a release switch somewhere to take them off when I got tired of hitting this thing, but it wasn't like anyone was going to check. I punched the boxing bag repeatedly, with so much force my fist started to hurt. ‘Just a small pain,’ I told myself over and over, even though it was starting to make me feel nauseous. I kept punching anyway, even after all of the tears were wiped away from my cheeks. Even though there was no need for it. There was never any reason for it.“That's enough for today” my trainer finally said, wiping her hands on her pants. She was standing next to me while I to
Chapter one hundred and twenty nineUnknown pOVThe memories of when we first met came back to me and I didn’t know what to do with all of it, what was I supposed to do? He didn’t want me.It was just how we used to be when were younger only that he changed somewhere along the line and I couldn’t tell why, it didn't make any sense to me.I felt hurt yet it didn't stop the memories.“Can you stop doing that?” I groaned out frustrated. Why does he keep staring at me and making me flustered? He tilted his head questioningly. “Doing what?”“Staring!” I snapped impatiently. He chuckled and shook his head “Sorry, I didn't notice. It won't happen again”“Good” I whispered to myself, hoping he could not hear it but unfortunately, he still heard me.“Why not? Are you afraid I will read your mind?” he laughed softly, teasingly.Of course, he knew that was impossible, that I'd rather cut open my own arm before letting anyone read my thoughts, especially not him.But I had no idea how to respond s
Luka’s POVHe lay there on the bed yet his mind felt as though it had drifted into another dimension. He was staring into space and I couldn't help but wonder what he was thinking.I didn't want him to worry about anything other than to focus on getting better.“Alfred, can you hear me?” I asked the old man lying on the bed and looking so fragile. He rapidly, as if trying to clear the images and memories that were clouding his mind and as if it would stop bringing up all those feelings that he was trying so hard not to feel anymore. I watched, waiting patiently for anything, any sign.He blinked again and focused again and blinked again as if his vision was blurred, when his eyes rested on mine and he could make out my face, me, he gave me a weak smile- Typical Alfred trying to find sunshine amid all this chaos. Then I took his hands into mine “We'll get you out of this, I promise. I'll send for the healer, we'll do something ” I spoke with hope in my eyes. Even though I wasn't so s
